This was our first trip to Ocean Star Seafood and our last. My husband and I were looking forward to dinner here for seafood since there is no all seafood restaurant in Great Falls. We heard from some friends how they liked eating here. I'm sorry to say we were very disappointed with our experience. We liked the calm atmosphere, ambience and nicely done decor, with a large salt water fish tank at the entrance. We came around 7:30 so there were only a few filled tables and booths. We were greeted from a smiling hostess, quickly seated and given the drink and buffet menu. Our waitress introduced herself. We asked for the entree menu since we weren't interested in the buffet. Afterward she gave us time to go over the menu. She brought over two tall glasses of water while we decided on our entrees. After ordering our meals came quickly. Our waitress came by a couple of times asking how we were doing. We chatted about the hot weather and going to the fair. I ordered the Hibachi grilled salmon with pineapple, baby corn, sliced zucchini and bean sprouts with noodles in the spicy garlic sauce, which was not too hot, with miso soup for $16.99. My husband ordered the grilled scallops, broccoli, sliced carrots, pineapple and sliced mushrooms with fried rice and a salad for $17.99. I'm sorry to say we were disappointed with our meals. I had to ask for a dinner size napkin since I didn't get one. The waitress pointed to the napkin dispenser but did bring one. My cup of soup was not hot, bland with a few bits of tofu, seaweed and green onions slices. The small portion of salmon was grilled tender but hiding underneath the vegetables and a generous serving of noodles and filled my plate. The pineapple chunks and sliced zucchini were good. But the baby corn and bean sprouts tasted like they were canned and didn't taste grilled. My husband's salad was very small with iceberg lettuce and a few slices of tomato and cucumber. The Honey Ginger dressing was tasty though. The fried rice was cold, the several scallops very small and the vegetables unremarkable. His entree didn't fill his plate like mine. We quickly ate, paid the bill and left with my leftovers. Leaving we were not wished a good evening by the two young ladies at the entrance although they did quickly smile. I don't like giving bad reviews but I hope this gives the manager a few things to discuss with the staff and cooks to improve the experience. read more

Food was great quality. My favorites have to be their salmon sashimi and honestly all the rolls I've tried so far. Service was very nice and speedy. The servers are always kind and helpful. This all-you-can-eat for $30 was truly a great experience! The sushi selection was extensive, the hot dishes were flavorful and our server was incredibly friendly, accommodating, attentive and quickly brought out fresh plates without us even needing to ask, ensuring we always had a full spread. We were able to try so many different options without feeling rushed, and the value for the price was worth it. We'll definitely be back for another delicious feast! And oh that robot server too is interesting and entertaining. For Montana, it's not bad at all. I come here on Business Trips a lot and decided to try out this new restaurant just across from the Hilton where I was staying. I would definitely comeback. The Service was very good, and fast. The Sushi was ok. I'm just spoiled since I was raised in Asia and Grandparents owned a restaurant. The Appetizers was good except the Chicken Karaage- it was a little dry and salty but the Shumai was good. read more

We were given a gift card for our anniversary. We had never eaten here before so it was a new experience. Last night we were seated fairly quickly. (There is no sign saying to wait to be seated.) I looked around as we walked to our table. I kept looking for the buffet setup. Our waitress explained the procedure. We were handed a "buffet" menu with prices. Very strange. You would then pick two (2) items each. Those items would be brought out to you. When you were finished, you would pick two more item, and so on. Drinks and dessert were included in the all you can eat buffet. NOW, as far as the food goes . . ., snow crab legs (priced at $20.99) were tastey, IF you could get the meat out of the shell. A "cracker" was supplied along with what looked like a letter opener, no seafood fork. We felt that the amount and size of the crab legs were not worth the money or the effort of having to try to dig the meat out. (So I would give the crab legs a rating of 2 ). I ordered the baked stuffed mushrooms (3 small caps) after asking if they were spicey. I was told no. I had to spit out the first bite because it was so spicy it burned my tongue! (I give this item a ZERO). IF YOU like spicy and are not allergic, you'll love it. Hubs told me the baked catfish was over cooked and had very little flavor. Rest of the food was very tasty. Now for desert . . ., they ran out of cake very quickly (they open at 4 p.m. and we were ready for desert around 7ish) so opted for the ice cream. The price of the buffet is $30 each person, so overall, if you're a big eater, you might be able to get you monies worth. Many of the items you'll be ordering come to you in very small servings. Oh, and there is no sushi on the buffet, those are "off the menu" items. read more

Let me start by saying the service was very good and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant was clean and was welcoming. However, the food completely missed the mark multiple times. The sushi was very poorly put together and it's ingredients tasted very old. The crab had a odor to it as it probably was sitting in a warmer for far too long. This place does have a lot of potential if they can figure out their food, however, I would not recommend going here until they make some drastic changes with their food and process. read more

Atmosphere / decor is nice. The food delivery robot is a neat touch for the kids. Large selection of sushi. Price for AYCE including soft drinks is $30 and seems reasonable. Most of the food was good. Here's what we tried: baked cod - good quality & taste was fine baked mussels - seemed decent (not a big mussels fan in general) cajun seafood boil - mediocre snow crab - chilled, acceptable quality as expected soup dumpling - tasted good, but didn't have any liquid inside baked stuffed mushroom caps - small, decent, with a little spice kick spring roll - tasted good, although the sweet & sour sauce was weak deep fried catfish - ok, thin and mostly breading crab rangoon - edges almost burnt, main stuffed part was good spicy kani salad - spicy imitation krab salad tasted good avocado salad - avocado sliced thin with sesame seeds / oil - good pink lady sushi roll - good quality, comparable to Kobe & Hokkaido filet mignon teriyaki entree - tender steak, but overcooked shrimp teriyaki entree - shrimp were decent ice cream for dessert - good quality brand of ice cream For the $30 AYCE, you are allowed to order 2 things per person at a time. TIP = make sure you order your next 2 items when each prior set is delivered. Even doing it that way, dinner still took around 2 hours in total. All in all, it was a nice change and interesting concept for Great Falls. Will go again, but probably only a couple times per year type of place for me. read more

Our server Ryan was terrific, the sushi was the best we have had since being in Seattle. Loved that they were able to substitute without any problems. This is the 3rd time we have eaten at this restaurant, and it seems to just get worse. We had a wonderful server but the food was almost horrific. So much of the seafood tasted "off" or even spoiled. The baked oysters were awful and made the people at my table nauseous and honestly spoiled their appetite for anything further. We mentioned this to the server, but nothing was done about it. The crab was not good and didn't even taste like crab. The fried catfish was soggy and fishy and the fries that came with it tasted of old fish-fryer oil. The sushi rolls were fine. We ate very little and certainly did not get out all-you-can-eat money's worth. Maybe that's the point of serving sub-sub-sub par seafood. I would much rather pay more and have quality and good tasting crab and other fish. It was a lot of money for our party of 7 and actually 5 of the 7 got sick later and had diarrhea and bloating. Not the sign of good seafood. The remaining 2 people had non-seafood items so diners beware! I have decide the "three strikes you're out" rule is in play for this restaurant and will not go back. read more
