I saw Kobe earlier in the day and decided that would be a good place for dinner. You can sit in the dining room or a hibachi table. I chose the hibachi table and was seated with others about ready to order. Thankfully I looked at the menu ahead of time so knew what I wanted already as the ordering started with me. Our waiter was new and didn't speak very loudly and was a little confused of what was included. So that turned out good in a way as I'm not a fan of onions so instead I got the zucchini without onions as we were asked whether we wanted zucchini or carrots. Then there was confusion with the soup and salad as I was asked which I wanted when both were included. The waiter made it right and was trying and friendly. He also kept my ice tea filled so that is a sign of great service. The chef was also friendly and I was given a sample of my filet to see if I liked how it was cooked. So I liked that too. The filet was delicious. It was plenty of food to make a second meal but I didn't take any leftovers as I couldn't keep them at a safe temperature so that is just a downside of travel. Service was terrible. The cook was terrible. He forgot to cook part of the food ordered by the entire section. Then, if that weren't enough, as my husband was eating his food, he spit out pieces of wire. When the owner/manager was told about it she only wanted to offer a 20% discount. We refused to pay it at all. Fast forward 1-2 hours later..my son and I are in the bathrooms with the worst food poisoning I've ever had. Mind you we both ate two different things. I ordered a to go order through their preferred site for a scheduled time. 8 numbers after me received their food before my single order. Horrible customer support as I was asked what my number was 5 times waiting a half hour after my scheduled pick up time. Won't order again. After 40min they told me to go wait in the car and they will call me. I was also informed that my order is delayed because of people waiting in the restaurant. The hibachi smelled great but if you enjoy sushi then this is not the place for you!! The sushi rice is extremely chewy and the fish does not taste fresh at all. We eat here often, and the food is always good however, today the owner would not honor a posted special. She said because I added an extra ingredient that costs $1 upcharge (mind you I was willing to pay the upcharge), the special was not valid and she would not honor it. Horrible service in general. the food was bland and they give you very little food for the price. I got the shrimp meal and I counted about 7 pieces. As we were leaving a ROACH crawled onto the food the person next to me was putting in a takeaway box. When we informed them about it we heard them go behind the curtain and say some extremely rude things. I have been to Kobe in Smithfiield, NC, with 2 and up to a party of 20 people. The service and food is outstanding! I like the fact that you may order from the menu at a table or you may choose to be entertained and fed by their teppanyaki-style grill. The reviews and lack of star ratings has kept me away from this place for years when I am in town. A friend assured me the ratings were wrong so I trusted him and his wife and we all went there together. I was pleasantly surprised. I had two rolls and they each had a roll. We ordered a tito's w ginger ale and a Sapporo. For food we got the steamed Gyoza, NC roll, Kill Bill roll, and the Pink lady roll. food was very good and well prepped. However when it came time to check out she ran the card and went ahead and gave herself a nice tip. I'm always about tipping and i absolutely agree that bartenders should be tipped however i've never had someone automatically apply a tip as i was going to leave cash. She had discounted a roll but rang in the Sapporo wrong it was a 12oz not a 22oz which is a big difference on the check so it came out to a lil over $100. My friends and I had gone to Kobe last night. My friends got food that was cooked on the grill and I had ordered a shrimp tempura sushi roll. The service was amazing and we had so much fun, but hours after I had started to feel sick. My friends felt fine but we had figured out I had gotten food poisoning. This is my mom's favorite restaurant right now so we made reservations here for a party of 20. They have a party room so we would have our own chef's. Our reservation was for 6:30. Some of us arrived around 6:20 but were told we would not be seated until everyone arrived. So we waited. Around 6:40 all hit 4 had arrived so we told them we were ready. They then said they had to clean the room. Again our reservation was for 6:30 and we never saw a crowd come out so why wasn't the room ready?! We asked for a manager and then we were seated pretty quick without seeing the manager yet. After we were in the room about 10 minutes they came to take our drink order. Shortly after that the manager finally showed up. The room was clean except a folding lawn chair in the corner and they have these dingy short curtains hanging on every door that you must touch if your more than 4 ft tall that seem like it's been a while since they have been laundered. We got our drinks about 15 minutes after being allowed in and then our food order. (We expected some waiting with our crew of 20 people so don't take all of this as complaints.) our waitress was very nice and thorough. Our chefs arrived and were very entertaining. One who said his name was Henry was especially good. We finally started eating about 7:40. The food was all very good but I am a little concerned with the cleanliness and sanitation over all. They restroom was less than clean with a sticky floor and missing wall between urinals. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time. We were greeted and seated promptly, even though we didn't have a reservation. (1 star) We did the hibachi grill table. The food was good (1 star), but the cook was very boring. No personality at all. Worse than that was his portion distribution. I ordered the 2x lobster tail meal. My husband ordered 1x lobster tail and ribeye meal. The cook starts with rice. One lady wanted no egg, so he portioned out some for her, ended up giving her 2 .5 ull scoops of rice. He started giving each other person at the table 1.5 scoop, but by the time he got to us, we each got almost 1 scoop. Then came the vegetables. He started giving 1 full scoop to each person, then gave one lady two full scoops, the next two each got full scoops, leaving me and my husband to share one partial scoop. My husband got his steak fine. When it came to the lobster, the cook gave two large tails to the folks at the other end (same lady he gave all the other stuff to and her husband) and gave me and my husband one large tail and 2 small tails. The other couple had a combo meal with steak, chicken and lobster. They should have gitten the small tails; we should have had the large ones! I have never, in over 40 years of eating at such places, ever left without enough leftovers for another full meal. I did tonight! No leftovers at all! Then, we go to pay and they've already charges us for a tip! This food was not very palatable; we found hair in the food along with the supposedly medium cooked tuna being completely dry along with the other food. This was the worst experience I have ever had with restaurant. To start off with we sat and waited for 15 minutes to get any service. We finally got our drink orders in and our food order. Our soups and salads came out before our drinks did, then we asked for extra ranch dressing (never got that). Next off the soups were ice cold, said something to the waiter he never offered to fix it just came up with some excuse of why they were hot. Then out came the cook, he proceeded to check to verify our orders. My fiancé and his friend still had yet to get his beer. Then he started to cook our food never once did he stop to ask how we wanted our steak cooked. He proceeded to cook the steak how he wanted it to be cooked. Our shrimp was uncooked and then the chicken was still uncooked. By the time we got our food they were finally bringing out the fixed "hot" soup. The MANAGER brought it out his self. When we asked to speak with the manager they gave my fiancé the run around. Once the manager came out he continued to give him the run around and would not come to a solution. The manager agreed to accommodate our food but not our drinks, which is fine with us. He then proceeded to try and get the group of 3 older women to pay for their food even though he accommodated our group of 6. If we did not stand up for them he would have made them pay for their food even though the food was raw. Which is highly ILLEGAL!! To say the least this place is going to hell in a hand basket. We watched a mom and daughter get seated across from us and they did not get any service for at least 20 minutes so they got up and left. Another man was up at the counter asking why his $150 bill was charged on his card as $180 when he left a cash tip. And another lady brought her Togo order back with issues with her food. One of the ladies told the manager that her soup had a straw wrapper in it and the manager tried to DENEY it (EVEN THOUGHT HE MADE THEM PERSONALLY). To say the least this place is going to SHIT! We both had a hibachi steak and chicken. It was cooked to perfection hot, flavorful, the rice and veggies were tasty.. The only difference was we weren't sitting at the table to observe their preparation. For starters, our waitress did not seem like she knew what she was doing. Then we got fried dumplings. These were deep fried that were 2/10 like they came from Walmart with lettuce on the plate. When on vacation to see family and after visiting the outlets nearby we wanted something local so picked this location. My dumpling appetizer with pork and chicken with a sweet sauce amazing. My hibachi chicken was good especially the chicken. The rice was average. My wife's shrimp hibachi was also sold but the shrimp could have used a little more flavor.
