Have never had a bad meal here! We love their deep fried tofu appetizer and their fresh rolls. Their Thai Basil is outstanding but has too many bell peppers for my taste so I order it without them. I also ask them for extra protein with it, i.e. extra chicken, or pork, or beef or tofu. Their Pad Thai is wonderful but again, I ask for additional protein (it's a small extra charge but worth it). Would give them 5 stars except that my husband really likes spicy Thai and he orders his at least a 7 on a scale of 0-10 and it's still not spicy enough for him. Also, the restaurant be a bit noisy. Has consistently good food. Friendly staff, quick turnaround from order to table. I'm mainly taking a star off because they have Styrofoam to go containers. This is incredibly toxic to put hot food into as well as being super horrible for the environment as it never breaks down. Increases the toxicity and micro plastics intake into your body. If they switch their boxes to some kind of natural material I will redo my review with five stars. Note for spice lovers: Their spice options are from 0 to 10 and choosing a seven in my opinion, is still only mildly spicy. read more

The food here has always been decent. Nothing truly outstanding, but never really disappointing either. Biggest complaint about this place is the atmosphere. The music is always very loud and distracting and the interior is pretty basic with all the hard surfaces reflecting the noise and making it loud. In addition, the owner has his office in a booth in the back with crap all over the place. It feels kind of bizarre. Service has always been reasonable and the staff has always been pleasant. Prices are reasonable. A place to get some decent Asian food but not a destination in my opinion. read more

Possibly the worst food I have ever eaten. NEVER EAT HERE Delivered by Uber Eats, the order took 1.5 hours from the time I ordered till received. I don't care what is going on, that is too long. I ordered and the clock started. Tracking my order, it was supposed to be delivered within 30m. I watched the animation, car on road, and they were stopped at Koh Chang Thai Restaurant for 20 minutes. Then I got a message from driver, that they added an order in front of my delivery. We were visiting Missoula and really wanted good Thai food. We don't have good Thai in our town. We stopped in Koh Chang and we were not disappointed! The restaurant was clean and smelled amazing. We were greeted immediately and placed a ToGo order. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls, Koh chang crab fried rice, chicken pad Thai and pork Massaman curry, We did spice level 5 on all except the curry we did a 4 as curry tends to be spicier. The spice level was perfect. The food was fantastic!!!! It was flavorful, spicy and everything amazing Thai food should be. The portion size was a good value for the $62. We also ordered an extra white rice. We will definitely be back, even if it is to grab takeout and drive it 2 hours home to eat it. It was just that good. read more

Missoula has a few Thai restaurant offerings - but the quality and price of Koh Chang can't be beat. I'm a fan of the Red Curry, which has a great selection of vegetables as well as fried Tofu. It's in the shopping center. Next to Crumbl. We ordered spring rolls, two pad Thai. One with chicken and added steamed tofu ($3) and added mixed veggies ($2) with a spice level 10. They use fresh Thai chilies here. The other one with just chicken and added mixed veggies. The veggie spring roll is okay, not super filled with yumminess. The inside is rather doughy. It's nearly empty of stuffing, all dough. The level 10 here is like a regular hot, not a Thai hot even. We had to ask for two more rounds of the Thai chili and the dried fresh chilies too. The Thai dishes were decent. The Thai dishes here come already with some fried tofu in it. The service was very good. read more

While the food is not bad, in the two times I've been here I have not been impressed. I recently had a "Lunch Special"' here. I put that in quotes because there's nothing special about it. Their specials are just smaller portions of entrées with non-noodle dishes served with rice. I'm used to a special that has maybe a small salad or a soup or maybe a Phad Thai with it. Or all three. Not so here. Plus both meals I've had were somewhat bland, even with a 7-8 star spice level. Service is ok. Given the lack of Thai restaurants in Missoula I'll probably be back, out of desperation. read more

Local place, been there for years. Maybe I hit it on an off night, but food was not good. Had the Drunken Noodles with shrimp. Well, the noodles had obviously been cooked well in advance and "re-stir fried", they were mushy and broken into tiny pieces. I was skeptical when they brought my dish literally a couple minutes after my order. Ditto on the shrimp, cooked maybe hours before and hard, way overdone, probably cooked twice. The place was churning take out orders, and I think that has impacted the quality. Speed takes priority over quality. Drunken Noodles is a classic Thai dish, it's supposed to be prepared to order. Looks like they are pre-cooking dishes so they can bang them out in seconds. Kinda like the trend in sushi places that cut up the fish mid-day vs on order. So writing this review in hopes the Owners take notice and get back to the program of quality Thai food. I'm happy to wait 15-20 minutes for a made to order dish vs a pre-fab imitation. As an Asian going into Montana, I definitely did not have high expectations for the Asian food here, but surprisingly Koh Chang Thai is a gem! I have been here multiple times and ordered multiple different dishes. I have had the thai moon shrimp cake, chicken satay, fried calamari, crab rangoon, fried tofu, thai fried soft shell crab, pad thai, drunken noodles, and pad see ew. All their fried food items are great. The batter on the outside is light and airy with a lot of crunch when you bite into it. The inside of the fried items is nice and juicy also. None of the items I have had are dry on the inside. All the noodle dishes are nicely coated in a good amount of sauce. The noodles were also stir-fried correctly because the noodles were't breaking apart while eating it. Only downside was that service was slow, but it seems like it's overall slower in Montana than everywhere else. read more

I certainly didn't expect a fantastic Thai restaurant in the mountains of Montana. But that is what we found. Koh Chang Thai was close to our hotel so we decided to give them a try. The first night we got their spicy eggplant, stir fried calamari, bbq spare ribs all as a carryout. It was delightful. It's hard to make spicy eggplant and they got it right! Their calamari was tender and nicely seasoned. Before we left the next day we went visited for lunch. They had outdoor seating and it allowed our dog to enjoy some snacks on her snuffle mat as we ate our lunch. This time we had their Basil Duck. It was also delightful. We were doing a circumnavigation of Idaho late spring 2021, but of course you have to pass through Montana to do so. We ended up one night in Missoula, and wanted some take-out near the hotel. We looked up Koh Chang Thai, and I headed for some food. They were very backed up with take-outs and door dash people. I was told nicely it would be like 45 minutes before I could get anything. I mentioned how we'd traveled up from Idaho Falls that day and we were tired and hungry, but I understood, and started to leave. He put himself between me and the door, and said "Why don't you eat in? Then you could get your food before anyone else." I perceived a twinkle in his eye, so I said, "That would be nice." So I sat and ordered the meal, and a beer. I got the beer immediately, and he sat with me and we had an interesting chat about Thai food spiciness levels as well as his career as I waited. (He was the server for those eating in for a meal, and I was the only one "doing so".) I was about finished with the beer, and he brought out the meal. "I'm really sorry about this, but they're so used to doing takeouts they put all your food into takeout boxes and even bagged it." I smiled, finished my beer, and said, "That's ok, I'll just take it with me rather than make you take it out and put it on plates." At the hotel, we had spicy eggplant, stir fried calamari, and BBQ spare ribs. It was all delicious, the only complaint I could come up with is the spare ribs dish was very small. We were both so impressed that we dawdled leaving for Coeur d'Alene the next day and instead went to lunch at Koh Chang Thai. We sat outside because we had a puppy, and had Basil Duck (extra spicy) for lunch. That was probably the best of all the dishes. Don't know the next time we will be in Missoula, MT, but we will definitely come here when we are there. read more

We asked to eat inside when we picked it up and they still served us and made sure we had the best dining experience. The food was amazing, hot, and fresh. When they say medium spice, they mean it! Their building is adorable, I enjoyed the interior design for a place quite small. Service was fast and friendly. I ordered the Seafood Mix with a 5 on the heat scale. The broth was amazing. I ordered the pad thai lunch special to-go today. I asked for it to be extra spicy, but unfortunately there was very little heat to it. It came with beef broth which had a really good flavor. Both were very good and flavorful, but I wish there would have been some spice to the pad thai. I also felt like the portion size was very small, even for a lunch special, which is why I took off a star. The container that the pad thai was in had lots of room left and the beef broth container was only filled half full. That's a no-no in my book. I will give them another try in the future, except next time I will probably eat in the restaurant. I have noticed that most places tend to give bigger portions when you dine-in, rather than getting your food to-go. read more

The pad Thai tasted good. I had some my husband left. I had the massaman curry. It wasn't as good as I'm used too. Needed a bit more coconut and peanut sauce. I was at the AT&T store next-door to the Koh Chang restaurant and the gentleman advised that I could have Thai food there. So I went in to try it. I love Thai food. Wow! This was the best Thai food I have had in years. The shrimp was huge and the taste was unbelievable! The service was great and they fit me in so that I could get to my chiropractor appointment. I recommend this to anybody who loves Thai food. I was very impressed. I live an hour away, but I will be making a trip back in to have some more of this food. It was excellent.! read more

Spicy is relative to the person. My family eats a lot of green chili ... hot green chili, so it's difficult to get very spicy in Montana. So, I was surprised when I ordered my green curry at 8 to find that it was just right. It left a little tingle in my mouth, but not so much that I was uncomfortable. My first time here and I am always hesitant.This is a wonderful place with great food and the people that manage it are very accommodating. It is unlike the other tile restaurants in town, making it a great alternative and well worth it. The yellow curry dish with chicken was amazing and plentiful. Absolutely spectacular restaurant! We have eaten there 4 times in the past few months and it's been wonderful. Just this past Monday we were there for a work lunch- three of us. I had the lunch special pad Thai with shrimp and it was AWESOME. They ask what your spice level is and I think it's 1-10 range. This is my only criticism of this great place and it's not entirely their fault. This question is is far more subjective than objective BUT based on the the 3 or 4 times I've had the privilege of dinning at this place- the level of heat regarding your selected number (1-10) can depend on who's working in the kitchen. We asked for 5 on our latest visit and it was very mild. The first time I dined there I asked for 7 and thought I was going to die!!! Long story short- great food, really friendly staff, clean place, reasonable prices and a moving spice scale to consider. I'm going to try 7 next week! Please try this wonderful place. read more
