If you like Thai food, this is a fantastic place to go while in Missoula. My husband and I went last night and it is truly some of the best Thai food I've had! And I eat Thai food everywhere I can possibly eat Thai food. The restaurant does not take reservations so the earlier you arrive a better off you are they do have indoor and outdoor stating however, so that helps at least in summer. The inside is so cute and they have murals everywhere painted with Asian caricatures. As soon as you walk in the hostess stand is just to the left and the bar is directly ahead. It is a small bar, but they have this super fun, "red light"district window at the end of the bar that if you want to order a drink while you wait for your table, this is where you do it... I loved it! We started with the eggrolls, and then we had the ginger chicken stirfry, also the Gang Karee with chicken and the Pad Kee Ma! We even surprised ourselves with how much food we had ordered and how much we ate of it! We couldn't stop.!! It was so good even our server said we did a fantastic job of ordering... we were experts! When you go out, you pay for more than just the dinner. That's my opinion. Was put in the back table by the restrooms and a view into the kitchen...and looking at the wall. So not pleasant. I get it...may have been different if sat elsewhere in the restaurant. My date loved the noodle dish and my daughter and her friend loved the Pad Thai. My green curry chicken 3 was ok. The menu was pretty vast, but sometimes when traveling I like to stick to tried and true dishes (kind of how pizza reviewers get cheese pizza first). The chicken pad Thai was mixed. The presentation is great (sorry, had started mixing it before I snapped picture). Loved the literal dish but the food itself? A bit underwhelming. The chicken was bland. It didn't have a strong flavor profile; however, to be fair, I ordered a 1 on the spice scale (mild spice, I probably could have handled a 2). That shouldn't have made it that bland at the price. There wasn't a lot of peanut but a big slice of lime. Where they deserve high marks is their service. It was super busy but they were very attentive. All the staff seemed friendly and happy, like even though they didn't get a moment to rest, like they were genuinely happy to be there. I am glad this restaurant is here. Maybe for Missoula this is high end dining, but I have had better pad Thai in California and Texas. I don't regret going there, but I do wonder if I had gotten a 2 on the spicy scale or another dish what my thoughts would be. read more

We ordered take-out since we drove 8 hrs from Seattle and wanted to chill in our hotel room and enjoy our meal while watching the game, go Hawks. Our local friends recommended this place. The Gang Karee Curry was flavorful! Would recommend 4/5. The 2 is spicy!!!! The phad see ew was less impressive. The noodles were not the wide authentic noodles usually served, they were like a wide fettuccini noodle and the dish was just okay. Maybe it's because we ordered it gluten free, not much taste. 2/5 and again, "2 spice" is very spicy. Would have liked more broccoli since we added it to the dish but there wasn't much. This is a great spot for amazing Thai food. It was walking distance from my hotel room and I'm so glad I ventured out. Great cocktails! I had the Garden Marg. So good. Would be especially good with some spice from a slice of jalapeno (but that's personal preference and how I'd make it at home). Service was very friendly, but they kind of sat me in a corner, and as a party of one I definitely got lost, or forgotten about when I was ready to order. For dinner I went with the Khao Soi with shrimp (additional $5). WOW! It was delicious and a great portion size for the price. Yay leftovers!! It was busy by the time I left, a little after 7pm on a Monday evening. But that wouldn't deter me from coming back if I'm in the area, or recommending to others. This place was recommended for takeout by a local friend of a friend. We were traveling through and wanted takeout. First, the ambiance is right up my alley. Hip. Modern. Soulful. A little tacky. It might be a bit high energy for some folks. We sat at the bar and had a drink while we waited. The thai lemonade was fairly bland. Although I did discover, through pocket research, that most thai iced teas and lemonade get their orange hue through food coloring (major blow to my assumptions about mixology). The food, on the other hand, was fantastic. Some of the best thai fried rice I've had. And the green curry was solid. And the cashew stir fry was decent. My one criticism is that I asked the host what she would recommend on the heat scale, and she recommended a two or three (although she bragged that she does a seven -off the scale- because she eats there all the time). I got a three. Lesson learned. Never take advice from a White lady from the Mountain West when deciding spice level, no matter how confident she appears (I should have done the five). However, we did get three types of hot condiments for the side (garlic chili sauce, house blended pepper flakes, and spicy fish sauce) and they were all fabulous. Overall, this was a fantastic thai experience. I've never eaten Thai in Thailand (for all the people complaining about authenticity), but I've eaten it in enough major US cities that I can confidently say it's as good as most other Thai spots. I'd definitely dine-in if I ever found myself back in Missoula. read more

Context: my wife and I have lived in Thailand. We know Thai food well. We also are Montanans, so we have realistic expectations of what is available. The good: The presentation of the food was beautiful and trendy. Very large portions. They were generous with the protein compared to most Thai restaurants we go to. The bad: It simply wasn't authentic. The flavors were interesting. But it would be the most honest to say that this is "fusion" food that is inspired by Thai food--with creative liberties and a lot of Americanization. Also, we asked for very spicy, and it wasn't as spicy as it should have been. Other things: It's a very loud place. If you want an exciting and modern place, this is your party. If you want to have an intimate conversation, definitely go elsewhere. Our waitress was professional, but definitely not warm or friendly. Prices where a tad high. Summary: Overall nice food, but disappointingly not Authentic Thai. (If I were blindfolded, I could not have identified these dishes.) I would eat here again--but only if someone else paid for it. I really loved the trendy vibe and the airy feel of this restaurant. We sat at the bar and got great service in what to order. We started with sake (which was fairly priced), and the margarita with cilantro and cucumber which was so refreshing. The portions here are massive so either skip the apps or plan to share with a large group. We got the egg rolls to start which were served with a nice tangy dipping sauce. For our mains we did the ginger stir fry and the pad thai with veggies - it was enough food to feed 5 people. Don't scoff at their spicy levels - I love spicy food but the level 2/5 was pretty hot for me, which I loved. The flavor profiles and the veggie options were fantastic. I love this spot! I hit it every-time I come through Missoula. Dumplings are bomb. The pad Thai is no joke, ordered a level 4 expecting a "Montana spice" aka nothing, but boy was I wrong! When in Missoula you have to go to the "Zoo"!!! On this trip I'm traveling with some coworkers so have some additional food to share. We started off with the fried dumplings and egg rolls. Both tasted great and the dipping sauces complimented them very well. I went away from my standard curry go to and tried what our waitress, Martha, suggested. Which was the Pad Gar Pow with Chicken and the Thai Lemonade. Both were quite tasty. My only regret was choosing a spice that wasn't spicy enough.....should have done a 3. Both coworkers enjoyed the Pad Thai, spice level 1 (wimps!¡!!). However, they loved every bite. The environment of Zoo Thai is small, dark, with upbeat music playing. I really try not to order Asian food when in MT, but because it was in connected to my hotel, it was too convenient not to try. I just got the pad thai since that seemed to come up most often in the reviews and is usually a good indicator of the rest of the dishes. The flavor was good, but oh so salty. It probably also had to do with the fact that it may have been less salty if I mixed the cabbage and carrots in, but I'm not a fan of those vegetables. Usually, they put sprouts, but they opted differently here. Woulda been a 3, but since the flavor was good and I'd likely try again if back in town, I'm adding a star. read more

Once you enter, you are greeted with a warm welcome. The design & decor of the restaurant is awesome! The food was amazing! Had the ginger roast duck with a Thai tea & it was fuego! We walked in on a Saturday around 4:40 pm for a quick nosh before going to a party. We chose to sit at the bar. Travis took very good care of us and explained the menu in detail. We didn't order a meal, just appetizers, but what we had was amazing. The Egg rolls are actually spring rolls very full of veggies, and it seemed like pork as well. The home-made sweet and sour sauce was the bomb! The Satay Gai (chicken skewers) were cooked perfectly and the peanut sauce was also very yummy. The Moo Yang (grilled pork) was fabulous. The tamarind sauce is an acquired taste for sure, but it was very authentic. The dish was a pleasant surprise for us. Anyways, we decided to wait around since this is our second day attempting to try this place. We were a group of 8 and waited for an hour for our table when we went at 6:30 on a Wednesday. We got a few appetizers and I got the pad Thai for my entree. Warning, so many restaurants were closed (Monday) that this was the only viable option. They weee down a bartender and my glass of wine never came. She gave me 10%off my food bill as comp. Not the same but fine. Ordered the egg rolls and chicken satay, both of which came out piping hot. The flavor profile of the egg rolls was pretty bland. Mostly just hot and fries. The peanut sauce for the chicken was quite good but cooked off quick and kind of gelled up. The couple next to me ordered entrees and I overhead them saying they were quite good and were glad they only got level "2" spice. They were clearly understaffed, like so many places right now. The food was made fresh to order and tasted great (the spice levels are bit milder side here). The service was a bit slow as the place was crowded. Very pricey IMO. And ask for plastic ware if you are placing togo orders (they do not include them by default which is annoying for visitors). Overall a good place to get your thai cravings fix. read more

I asked for 0 stars on my basil fried rice with BBQ pork and a fried egg on top. It was super good but definitely had some spice to it. I also got the Thai tea with rum in it and it was delicious. I took my Thai stepmom and her friend here for dinner after telling them how good it was supposed to be. The Tom Ka was entirely too sweet with too much coconut -- and why not served with rice? That was bizarre. It was also missing galangal root, lemongrass, and kafir lime, which we could not taste at all. The Pad Kee Maw had no flavor, missing basil, the key ingredient. In addition, the Pad Se Ew was also missing the key ingredient, basil! And why must you pay extra for protein in these noodle dishes? That is ridiculous. If that is your policy, then the base price for the noodle dishes should be appreciably less. The pricing of the menu seemed contrived, and the execution of each dish we had was subpar at best. Let me start by saying I rarely write reviews, good or bad but tonight is an exception. Online ordering feature for two others in my group wasn't working correctly so I ended up ordering three separate orders. Spice level way off on all of our food orders. It's like they just make one big batch and you get what you get. Part of our order was missing and we didn't realize until we got back to our hotel (called to ask for refund of course no answer. I left a msg with order number and asked for refund. Hopefully I won't have to dispute cc charges.) The real kicker to my whole experience is I misheard the lady working at the pickup station. I thought she said it would be another 20-30 minutes. She said 2-3 but it was loud and I am hard of hearing. I said really another 20-30 minutes?!?! I was told in a very short and kind of rude voice, dining room is always prioritized over take out (even though they add an automatic gratuity to take out orders). The last time we ate here it was amazing, food was great and portions are always generous but unfortunately after this experience I don't know when I'll be back. read more
