I was genuinely excited that my husband gave me a facial as a special birthday treat during our stay at the resort. I was originally scheduled for eyelash services and a different type of facial. However, since the technician who handles eyelash services wasn't available to perform both treatments simultaneously, I had to reschedule. We had already rearranged our plans around our commitments on the island, but this consideration seemed to matter little. Initially, my appointment was set for Monday, but while I was at the salon, I was informed that it had been canceled due to a staff member calling out, leaving only one technician available. This was quite frustrating, especially as we were trying to manage our plans during our vacation. As travelers, we don't have the luxury of time to reschedule at our convenience. I ended up being scheduled for Wednesday, my actual birthday, which required us to adjust our plans once again. I had initially booked a 50-minute facial tailored to my needs, but I received a 20-minute hydrafacial instead (apparently the time frame is different for this facial). At the end of the treatment, I expressed my disappointment regarding the short duration and lack of thoroughness of the facial I received. The receptionist informed me that I had been scheduled for a 50-minute facial and that I had chosen the hydrafacial, which was only 20 minutes long. This felt more like an upsell than a genuine treatment, as I've never experienced a facial where essential extractions weren't performed on key areas of my face, with no explanation given for that omission. Describing my disappointment as a tremendous understatement would be generous. I felt that we wasted both time and money, and the receptionist's attempt to correct me felt unnecessary, especially on my birthday when I wasn't in the mood to argue. In hindsight, we should have just left after they had done their initial cancellation and never returned to the salon. I firmly believe that you're better off visiting a nearby salon rather than spending money at the resort, hoping for a great experience, as it simply is not worth it. It's an illusion. Ultimately, this experience fell far short of our expectations, and we will not be returning to this salon in the future. It's unfortunate that the staff seemed unaware of their audience, as travelers have limited time to enjoy their experiences. I hope this feedback helps others make more informed decisions. read more

I've been regularly getting a deluxe pedicure by Selena and my husband gets his haircut by Brenda at Kohala Salon. We've been very pleased with every experience. My husband says it's maybe the best haircut he's ever gotten, and I have happy toes when I leave. The place is lovely, the people great, and the prices decent. During our weekend stay at Hilton Waikoloa, my husband and I decided to book massages at Kohala spa. I requested a hāpai (prenatal) massage and he requested a lomi lomi. As soon as you walk down the stairs upon arriving at the Makai tower, you enter the salon check in area. We were greeted fairly quickly and were shown the locker rooms where we would change into our robes and leave our personal belongings. My therapist was Candance and she was absolutely amazing! Before she started, she asked me about any problematic areas I wanted her to focus on. She really took her time and worked those areas well. The 50 minutes was perfect for me! Once the massage was done, i was in complete relaxation mode. Mission definitely accomplished. *heads up for mamas that are considering the hāpai massage, you do lay on your stomach for the first half of the massage. There was a pillow with a divot in the abdominal area, however, if you are farther along in your pregnancy , it may not be the most comfortable. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is because of the insane pricing. However, Hilton Waikoloa is a resort so I shouldn't have expected anything less. But overall, we paid about $460 for two 50 minute massages including tip....let that sink in. The spa amenities are very minimal (steam room, showers for after massage, and Kohala products available for use). Overall, I would go back strictly for the hāpai massage. My husband, on the other hand, said he would not. read more

I came here with my Mom for our annual ritual of mother/daughter pedicures. It is a beautiful, serene setting - nice colors, decor, music, and overall vibe. It's more spendy than your average pedicure, because this is definitely an above-average experience. We felt special and pampered, and the ladies who took care of us were pleasant and friendly. It's an altogether better experience than what we usually go for. And the pedicures themselves were great! read more

I made an appointment for hair styling. Showed up early. 15 mins past my appointment time, the front desk lady comes out and says itll be a little while longer. I asked how long and emphasized I had a wedding to be at (emphasizing the importance of timing and need for the service). I ended up leaving because I waited for over an hour!
