I had a great experience at the spa at Mauna Kea, thanks to Nzinza. She's incredibly knowledgeable, genuine, and clearly very good at what she does. She took the time to understand what I needed and made the whole experience feel thoughtful and intentional. I came in still recovering from a yoga injury and ski accident (yes, that one ), and she really helped with my healing and recovery. I left feeling noticeably better. Did a couples massage. They were professional and attentive to details. They offered additional products for sale with a pressured/forced attitude. Overall a good experience and would do again. We enjoyed having a massage in the same room. Massage therapist were professional and did a good job. I did get the horse brush to start. Which was unusual but ok. Slightly abrasive but not the worst. Horse brushing didn't enhance the taste experience. Horse brush was a first for me for sure. read more

First booked at Marriott Waikoloa Mandara Spa and within two hours of my appointment Mandara Spa call and canceled on me, said the Esthetician got into an accident and had no other Estheticians. Then, I went and booked for 3 days later at the Mauna Kea Resort Mandara Spa and within a hour of my appointment, Mandara Spa called me and cancelled, said their Esthetician went home sick and there were no other Estheticians. Management at Mauna Kea Resort(will email) and all Resorts that have contracted Mandara Spa for their spa services, should be aware of this ongoing pattern how they consistently cancel on their guests for their booked spa services! On our second day at the resort, I called the spa to book a couple's massage to surprise my husband with a nice treat during our stay. They offered me a reservation for two days, Wednesday at 345 PM. They requested we arrive at 330 PM. I have received deep tissue massages for 10+ years, and I don't have had such a poor experience. Had I realized they booked us for the last appointment of the day and the therapists would rush out the door and through the massage, I would've gladly saved the $600. We arrived early as requested and were ready to start at 345 PM, if not earlier. I asked my therapist to focus on my back, shoulder, and traps. When it comes to massages, I genuinely see them as professionals and expect them to develop a plan to strategize time and determine the most effective treatment based on my concerns. It may have been a fluke, but my massage therapist did not strategize time week, nor did I think through the most effective massage techniques for my concerns. A majority of the 60 minutes was spent on other areas. I did not specify it must be a full-body massage because I knew of the time limitations. The time spent on my areas of concern was rushed and very rough at the end of the massage. I've had a massage therapist who prefers to use their elbows on my shoulders, traps, and back to apply pressure before, but I've never had someone do so without regard to the apparent fact that I'm 5'2'', 125 lbs. I have a high pain tolerance, but after a few minutes, I couldn't help vocalizing some pain. Instead of reducing the pressure, the massage therapist moved back to my lower body and encouraged acupuncture. In summary, one side of my upper body was massaged extremely roughly and the other very little. This left the muscles in my shoulders, neck, and traps feeling completely unbalanced compared to left to right. Within minutes, our therapists had vocalized it was the end of our service, and they left the room. My husband and I quickly got our robes back on and went into the locker rooms to change our clothing. We also had dinner reservations that evening, so we felt no need to linger in the locker rooms. When I came out of the locker room, I was surprised that neither massage therapist returned and asked us how we felt. I decided to walk up to the front desk to pay and, to my surprise, watched both therapists walk out of the spa with their things to go home for the day. It was 4:45-4:50 PM. I hope that for a spa charging approximately $600 for a 60-minute couple's massage, the least you could expect is for your therapist to check in with you after, regardless of the end of the day. My husband also wasn't impressed with his massage. This post is already too long, but I think it's essential to add that I felt so sore and in so much pain afterward and the next day that I ended up seeking out care from a local Nurse Practioner, and paid $275 out of pocket for intravenous magnesium, Vitamin C, and B vitamins in hopes of salvaging the final day of our trip. When we returned from the medical appointment, I requested to speak to hotel management about the issue. The manager was kind and empathetic but reiterated multiple times that the Mauna Kea could do nothing as Mandara Spa is a vendor-owned and operated spa. I found management's desire to dissociate from the spa disingenuous. A poor experience at the spa will affect the guest's perception of the resort and their whole visit. Our experience at the Spa resulting in my body hurting so bad was an incredibly disappointing way to wrap up our honeymoon. read more

I almost missed out on this fantastic experience because I wanted a female therapist but none was available, so I reluctantly booked with a male therapist and am so glad I did. Ethan is amazing at his craft!! He was every bit as gentle as I asked him to be, he used some wonderful reflexology techniques on my hands and feet and just really had a lovely energy about him. Please save yourself some trouble and skip this spa. Believe the other reviewers who say that this spa will cancel on you at the last second, or in my case, I showed up for my appointment with both an email and text confirmation only to be told that they had no record of my appointment. And the supervisor they called on the phone said "that's odd. I'll have to check with corporate about that." That does your customer absolutely no good and is a waste of time and energy. I have been to spas at other four and five star resorts, and this is not the experience you expect at that level. Spend your money doing something different that is guaranteed because these people need to figure out how to manage a business before they can effectively run one. read more

Surprisingly small spa for a large, high end resort-hence the four star rating. There is no peaceful quiet room. They have a small waiting room right behind the check in which is less than charming. That being said Max the masseuse, and Alicia my facial aesthetician, were excellent. Probably the best I have had anywhere. Max worked out a knot in my shoulder plus he was skilled at sacro-cranial massage technique. Alicia did work through the skin wrinkles. Five stars for the staff. Four for the spa facility. read more

Absolutely loved my facial from Alicia. The most amazing facial I have ever had. She was very knowledgeable and caring. Well worth the $$$ The massage I had was very underwhelming. Nice therapist but seemed a little new at it. Definitely not worth the $$$ The facility is old and the amenities lacking. The "waiting" room where your therapist greets you is just behind the front desk and not relaxing at all. There were only 2 chairs and a small loveseat to wait in. I spent approximately $450 on spa services, my husband played a round of golf ($150) and because we weren't guest there we could NOT use the pool area!! When I asked to talk to a manager the spa receptionist called "someone" and the answer was no. I could not believe it!! I will never go back there again nor will I ever recommend it. I'm just sorry that my esthetician that gave me the most amazing facial there doesn't receive all the accolades she deserves. read more

10/10 do not recommend. My wife and I here for our honeymoon thought we would splurge and get the nice romantic couples massage package that was a little on the pricey side. WASTE OF MONEY. We over paid for a couples "massage" that was really a soft rubbing of the back and gentle massage. I asked for my shoulders and upper back to get extra attention, and it surely did not. Both of our masseuses felt rushed to get done and on to the next area of the body. For 50 minutes of a massage we were only given 25 and the other 15 was for a head and neck scrub, which was not worth it by any means. 25 + 15 by the way isn't 50. so that was wonderful. Paying this much for a DAY SPA, we figured it would have all the amenities that come with a day spa. No, it came with a shower and a moldy steam room. We left very upset and not relaxed. Save yourself $300+ and go buy a 12 pack. It'll make you feel better, and will probably last longer than this sorry excuse of a day spa. read more

Got a very awesome massage at the Hapuna Resort Mandara spa. The therapist Rie was really courteous and found all of my tight tense stress points. The view from the room was great, right in front of the ocean and the swaying trees were great. Highly recommended for relaxation and destressing youself I felt relaxed for 2-3 days after the treatment. I did not use the other facilities other than the golf course at the Hapuna Resort but overall I would highly recommend you try the spa and enjoy! read more

Had a pedicure here this week, very convenient since our family was staying at the hotel. They gave me a spa coupon in my room for 30% off, thus I thought it would be a great time to get a pedicure. However, I was told when I arrived for my pedicure, that "salon" treatments didn't apply (even though I was getting a "spa" pedicure). My 60 minute pedicure was only about 40 minutes long. The reason I gave this place 3 stars was because I had a lovely pedicurist who was very friendly, and I enjoyed my chat with her. The price ended up to be $85 (20% gratuity automatically included), which is way more than I would spend for a spa pedicure and I was pretty disappointed about the bait and switch coupon. read more

Has a sauna and shower and good quality bath soap and hair products. Combs and shavers available. I'd come here again if I was staying at the hotel, but I wouldnt seek it out on its own as a spa. read more

My entire experience has been amazing at Mauna Kea Spa. I spoke to Aria to make an appointment for a massage and they were able to get me in quickly. She was so nice and very professional. Betty was my masseuse and she was beyond amazing. Very friendly and we had a great conversation. I wanted to learn more about my ancestors and about to the island. Betty had all the answers for me. I learned so much while getting a wonderful and relaxing massage. I would and will come back because the customer service was up to my standards, which is very high!!! Thank you, ladies! read more

This Mandara Spa is at the beautiful Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. The hotel's setting is gorgeous, the Mauna Kea Beach is beautiful-we even saw a few honus there. Expecting for an amazing experience, like the Anara Spa at the Hyatt in Kauai or the Qua Spa in Las Vegas, I thought that our experience at the spa was okay. My bf and I checked into our couples massage a little early and the receptionist kindly allowed us to leave our things in the lockers while we enjoyed the beach for a little while before our appointment. The locker room facilities are small compared to other spas that I've been too. There were about a dozen lockers, three showers, two sinks, and one stall. Prior to our treatment you can choose from 3 different oils for you treatment, I chose Harmony. Our massages were fantastic, Winona did a great job on my trouble spot. I think I even fell asleep at one point when I was on my back. After my massage, I went back to the locker room to shower. Unfortunately, I didn't see any combs, brushes, or hair dryers to use after showering. Pluses-at a beautiful hotel and great massage treatment. Minuses-lack of additional amenities in the spa and locker room. read more

My husband and I are staying at the resort and called down for a same day massage. The staff were accommodating. We both had the Hawaiian style massage and thought it was outstanding. This spa doesn't have all the whirlpools, sauna, etc of some spas but it was one of the better massages I've ever gotten. My husband said his was excellent as well. read more
