The issue I had with Sierra Marina was with their kayak rentals. The service and the price wasn't the problem. The issue was with the kayak itself. It was well past its prime. One of the backrest clip loops was broken (kayaing without a working backrest is horrible), and the deck hatch was so old that water leaked right into the hold causing flooding. It also appears that this Marina knows about the kayak flooding because they drilled a custom drain hole in the back of the kayak for flooding drainange. These issues weren't realized until I was already on the water. Obviously basic expectations of a kayak rental weren't met. The previous day we rented from Shaver Lake Watersports and they had all new kayaks. So new that they still had the brochures attached to the kayaks. Perhaps that's why SLW cost $10 more an hour to rent.. I guess you get what you pay for. As others have said, it's teens working here on a summer job. Nothing wrong with that of course but they're not really trained to look for issues with a boat (or kayak in my case) before sending someone out in the lake. They also don't have knowledge of Shaver Lake's boating laws. The kid that launched me said that everyone was required to wear a life vest. After looking it up, the law states 12 and under must wear a life preserver. I took it off when out of Marina sight. Tip - if you're staying on the lake as a "day use" and are thinking about renting a kayak, make sure it's for half-a-day or full-day rental. The seat cushions were not fastened to the hinges and several of us fell off of the seat as the cushion tipped over. Lawsuit in the making! Also they did not provide an anchor with the boat so it was difficult to fish in coves as we kept drifting. And they told us that they will charge 20.00 if a life vest gets wet. We just were up a Shaver Lake from 6/11/21-6/15/21. We rented a slip at the Shaver Lake Marina not Sierra. When we went out to take a night ride after a long day on the water, my batteries were dead. The next morning I put a new battery in the boat and couldn't get anything to work. Shaver Marina is not a full service marina and told me to call Sierra Marina, that they might come over and help. I contacted them and at first they told me they did not have my part. They called me back in 10 minutes and said they went looking through their stuff and lucky for me they had the part and would send over a mechanic (Terrance) to repair it. I rented a pontoon to kill a couple hours so the kids and wife could have something to do. When we got back, I found Terrance finishing up the boat and heard the sweet sound of my captains call. He gave me some suggestions on a couple things and I thanked him for the amazing service. So off we went in the boat blazing across the water to find a place to anchor and swim. During that time I tried to raise my trim and for some reason, nothing. I immediately called Sierra Marina and asked for help. They told me to drive the boat over and they'd help me, so I did just that. We were met by 3 young men, one of them the owners son, to look at the boat. After about 30 minutes of us tinkering with it they diagnosed the issue as a wiring problem that I could repair later because the trim would go up for me to trailer it the next day, just wouldn't go down with my switch. They activated the solenoid to make sure my engine was all the way down so I could enjoy the rest of my day and trim it up the next day and be headed home to have my mechanic look it over. They did not charge me anything so I tipped all 3 guys just for their help and politeness. I will highly recommend this Marina to anyone when dealing with on the water issues. They helped make our vacation an amazing time and helped me finish off my last day on a happy note. read more

We were staying in a cabin up in Shaver for a few days and had rented a boat from a local for July 1st. Unfortunately, the day of the rental the owner of the boat had some mechanical difficulties and we were left without a boat at 9am. As this is an annual trip we make with our 3 boys, and boating on the lake is one of our traditions we were all extremely disappointed. I called Sierra Marina as I know they rent ski boats and spoke to Shannon. Fortunately for us, they still had a boat available and were able to accommodate us. Shannon and the staff working at the marina were all very pleasant to work with. The boat was great and we all had a terrific time. Have been docking here for many years. The girls in the shop are very helpful and Shannon did everything she could to get us a space. The only reason i didn't give them a full 5 stars is because on the last day our boat battery was dead and we were charged $20 for a jump. I thought that was slightly excessive. I understand that the employee had to go take time out to give us a jump, but it was literally 5 minutes of his time. Not a huge deal...and we did appreciate that they had the jump box available to help us out. We will always prefer to use this marina during our visits. read more

While renting Wave Runners (WR) we were assisted by two young boys. The first was 15yo and was completely unprofessional and rude. The second person who took over for the 15yo was equally unprofessional and rude. While explaining the rules of the lake and how to operate the WR he was very condescending when questions were asked, and even refused to help one of the ladies in our group find a life jacket that fit correctly. He attempted to ask a co-worker, who was walking by, to help with the life jacket only to be met with an, "I am busy, no." Even after all the inspection of the of the WR, which included pictures, we left and attempted to anchor them in the water off shore of our picnic site to find they had forgot to put and anchor in either one of the two WRs I will never rent there again and will go back to Shaver Lake Marina were I have rented boats and WR every year twice a year for the past 8 years. read more

Wanted to rent a 4 person boat on June 6th. Was told by the girl at the counter that they haven't pulled the 4 person boats out of storage and the only thing the 3 of us could rent was a pontoon boat. So, instead of being able to rent a small boat for $40 for 3 hours, we had no choice but to rent the smallest pontoon boat for $140 for 3 hours. Welcome to Scammer, I mean, Shaver Lake. I asked the guy who showed us how the boat operated if they would have any 4 passenger boats available later in the season, and he said he didn't think they were going to pull them out of storage. The ladies in the shop were really friendly with great fishing advice and a good selection of light tackle and general convenience store items. The real reason my father in law arrived at the marina was for the mechanic. I can't recall his name but I'm sure he was the only mechanic on staff. Anyway we showed him a part that was malfunctioning from our mid 80's Johnson 150. With a glance from 10 feet away he told us what the part was and although he didn't have parts in stock for that age motor he offered a solution that worked. We gave is a tip for his time and effort. We had to visit him again the same day different issue and he had us back in the water in 30 mins or so. Anyway. Thanks for helping us have a great week at shaver lake. read more

Upon arrival the boat staff already acted very irritated to service us. We also rented a grill which did not function well. Had to go back to get more matches and another propane tank because one of them ran out (it was only half full when we were told both tanks were full). At the end of the trip we had to pay extra for damaged blades, and when we simply questioned, they responded with forceful attitude. Don't rent from here!! The staff will ruin your fun. Only giving two stars because my family had such a fun time. But the staff were very rude. Even when calling over the phone they were rude, that should have been our first sign. Our friend also rented another boat that day and she was charged all three propellers, which, were damaged, but the owner was in automatic defense when we asked for clarification of the charges and details. All we wanted to know was "what the damage was, and the list of prices for the charge." We weren't trying to argue that it was damaged. But he went into automatic defense. Also, the grill they paid extra for, kept dying. We ran out of matches trying to restart only to find out they sent us out with an empty propane tank. Poor, poor customer skills. We rented another boat from shaver lake water sports. They were really nice, easy going. They didn't give us a hard time at all. I recommend that place. read more

Rented a Waverunner here today which was the worst decision ever. First of all, the front desk staff is rude and unfriendly. Secondly, our Waverunner was not functioning properly, yet it was still rented to us despite the malfunction. Frankly, it was a piece of shit. Upon returning the Waverunner we were immediately chewed out for bringing it back on time with a full tank of gas. Apparently the fine print on the rental receipt indicates to only use the fuel facility at Sierra Marina, and we filled it up at Shaver Lake Marina. I can bet that we aren't the only people in history that have done this, but you would think that we were by the reaction of the jackrod behind the counter. If it's that important then why doesn't Sierra Marina tell Shaver Lake Marina to refrain from filling watercraft that belongs to them? Obviously it's an issue, and the customer shouldn't be treated like a first-class asshole just because they didn't use the 91 octane fuel on what is basically a water-turd. This was the first and last time I'll rent or buy anything from this Marina. I'll be sure to tell my friends and others about my experience here so they don't make the same mistake. read more

We only rented a tube and got gas here, but the guys were very helpful, even helped get the rope off of a tube from a different rental place so we didn't have to rent another rope. There was always someone at the gas dock to help us pull in. read more

I would give a negative star if possible. Terrible customer service, no help whatsoever. Our radio did not work, and the lighter torch they gave us for the BBQ did not work so we had to light it using our personal lighter and a stick. They never seemed rushed or bothered by our questions and they even gave us some tips on where to fish. It is such a relief to be on vacation meet people who are really nice and appreciative that you are visiting their business. If I could give this place negative stars, I would do so without a doubt. The customer service was an absolute dismal, and the business owner should be embarrassed. To start, I rented a "12-seater Pontoon" with the expectation that my group of 9 would have plenty of space. The actual pontoon was quite the contrary. One of us had to sit on a cooler in order to have a place to sit. Anyway, before we took off, one of the employees (a boy maybe age 14...MAYBE) gave us a "tour" of the boat, and explained how to drive and where the essentials would be if we needed them, such as extra gas tanks, life vests, etc. However, the employee failed to inform us where the fire extinguisher was on the boat. As first time renters, we had no idea that the law requires us to know where it is on the boat, so we didn't bother to ask. The employee also failed to let us know of another law that requires us to shut off the engine of the boat if one of us is on the ledge. This may not have been the best decision on our part, but it is actually besides the point. To our dismay, we were pulled over by the Water police, who we had to negotiate with to get out of getting a ticket from for not knowing where the fire extinguisher is. At the end of the day, we went in to return the boat and explained to the girls what our issues were (i.e. the small size of the boat and the fire extinguisher incident). Without even trying to explain away the situation themselves, the girls working the counter immediately summoned the owner. They told one the owner's sons to go get his dad, but instead, this CHILD who could not have been older than 14 either, proceeded to tell us how we are wrong and so is the water police for not knowing what the law requires. We told him we did not want to speak with him, that we wanted to speak with his father. He refused to go get him, and continued to tell us that they did nothing wrong and it was the police who misinformed about what the law is. We explained to him that despite what he has to say, we still wanted to speak with his dad. The girls finally convince him to go get his dad, except an even smaller child comes out to tell us that unless we got a ticket, there is nothing else they can do for us. At this point, my friend and I are furious and confused as to why an owner would let his children deal with customers. When the owner finally decided to come out, he is completely combative and argumentative, refuses to listen, and tells the girls to give us a discount so we would leave them alone. The girls obliged, we paid, and ran the hell out of there. NEVER again will I return to this place, and I strongly advise against anyone else going here for any reason. The owner should be ashamed of himself, and quite frankly should be reported for having so many children working at his establishment. Understandably so, kids need summer jobs. But there is a line that this business clearly crossed by allowing these kids to handle customer complaints. At the very least, they should be trained to be respectful and understanding, but when the owner came out, it was clear they got their lack of social skills from him. The guy who helped us with the boat was friendly and full of helpful info. I would highly recommend this Marina. They are upfront with their prices. We had a wonderful day at the lake on 4th of July. However, dealing with the staff there was a different story... I've never been talked down to or disrespected so much by little boys and men. One boy (maybe 13-15) was showing us the functions and equipments on the boat and he was so rude and annoyed when we asked questions. They only allow 12 people to be on the boat even though the boat's safety sticker says "Maximum Capacity: 14". After returning our pontoon, the little boy and a man accused us of hitting a rock because one of the blades to the propeller was missing. The little boy was so mean! We assured them that we haven't hit a rock but it was our word against theirs. Ended up paying an additional $100. Because we really did not hit a rock or go near any rocks... We think they purposely gave us a damaged propeller to begin with. We'll never return. Be extra cautious and be sure to check everything before you take the boat out. Don't get scammed. I wouldn't recommend anyone renting from this place. Especially if you're non-white or have little experience boating. Yes, we definitely felt discriminated after observing that we were the only non-whites and getting terrible customer service compared to everyone else. read more

Rude service, we've rented from Shaver Marina before and it was awesome, thought this time we would try Sierra, wrong choice. Pontoon is crap, life vests are charged if wet, they didn't provide an anchor or flag and while on the lake I called and asked where the anchor and flag were the rude girl on the phone says "uhm you didn't ask for one" well since last time at the Shaver Marina we were supplied with EVERYTHING already in the boat we didn't think we had to ask. I've never been so disappointed in service and all around they just don't care for their customers!!!! We'll definetely NEVER go back to that marina!!! read more
