Sushi... in Sweetwater? Yeah, I was skeptical too. When your friends in a town of less than 7,000 say they're craving sushi, you smile, nod, and quietly prepare your taste buds for disappointment. But hey--sometimes you just have to roll with it (I'll see myself out). We ordered a bunch of rolls to share and... what?! They were actually really good. Super fresh ingredients, rice that was seasoned like someone actually cared, balanced flavors, and that magical combo of creamy, crunchy, and chewy. Honestly, we were impressed--and kind of shocked. The vibe? Meh. The lighting was doing weird things (don't blame us if our food photos look like they were taken on Mars). Service was friendly, but here's the twist: we wanted more sushi, but the chef was apparently tired. At 7pm. On a Thursday. Meanwhile, across the street? People are partying like it's 1999--dancing, drinking, singing karaoke. That's some potential sushi business just walking right on by. Bottom line: weird lighting, sleepy sushi chef, great rolls. it was dark. owner stood in the back. My wife asked about any gluten free items. server was t too sure. Got to the point where the owner told the server to tell us to pretty much not come back so that's what we'll be doing. We love sushi, ramen and pho and have had it all in many cities including Denver, Phoenix and Nashville. This is a place that will likely phase out and someone who understands giving the customer what they want will replace them with quality and care. read more

They have a very extensive menu, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, sushi and a bit of Indian. My sister and I wanted something different so we stopped in for dinner. The sushi was presented well and delicious. I also had the lettuce wraps, very flavorful and fresh lettuce leaves. My sister got the appetizer platter with satay, spring rolls and crab Rangoon, she was happy with her choice and the sauces were really good. read more

Tried this place with my teenage son. We both loved it. He got the miso ramen an 8.5 out of 10. I give the the hibachi a 10 out of 10. The meat was great. You can tell it's fresh and perfectly cooked. And we tried a roll as an appetizer. Smoky Mountain roll Amazing!! Best roll I've ever had. Everything was clean, and they had so many options on menu Japanese, Chinese, Thai, And Malaysian. We will definitely be back to try more!! read more

Don't go by this review as far as the food as we didn't get that far. Walked in and was met by a young disheveled man who told us it was his first day. His tshirt was dirty and soaked in sweat, so was his face. His jeans were filthy as were his cowboy boots. It was so off putting we got up and went somewhere else. We needed to stop somewhere quiet for my father because he needed to join a very important last minute virtual meeting for work. We tried a coffee shop but it was too loud and then the local public library but it was locked up (no dice!). We saw Kokita and decided to see if that was the right fit and it was. They were very accommodating and he found a quiet spot in the restaurant from which to participate while the rest of the family ordered some light food to be polite (we had lunch only a few hours before but, after all it's a restaurant). The food was amazing! We ordered a few appetizers as something light to snack on while my father was on his conference call. We also ended up ordering a few sushi rolls. The food was very good, the atmosphere was great, and the waitress was very attentive, understanding, friendly, and polite. Truly an amazing place and the food is great. My family used to live in Japan and finding truly good Japanese food in America that can even remotely hold a candle is rare and while this may not be quite be up there, it is some of the better Japanese food I've had in America. Located in historic downtown Sweetwater. The last place one would think of finding excellent Asian cuisine. Like many new restaurants, their opening left things to be desired, especially very slow service. The crowds were large and it certainly took a while to get one's order. Today those kinks have been worked out. The service is VERY good and the food is delivered hot and quickly. Now that this trouble is out of the way, let's discuss the food. Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Malaysian and other ethnic Asian dishes are available. All are made to order, in large portions and authentic in taste and preparation. Also, page after page of choices. Finally if your go to is Sushi, Kokita is a wonderful choice. Many types of Sushi and sashimi are available and the presentation is spot on. The owners are the Sushi chefs and they take pride in their product. My wife and I don't have to go to Knoxville anymore for excellent Sushi. Anyhow, if you're in our area on vacation, just passing thru or live in and around Sweetwater, give Kokita a try. You will go away happy and with a full belly. read more

This is my second visit. This place hasn't been open long and they are still training staff but I haven't been disappointed with either of my visits. My first visit I tried the hibachi and took home a golden eye roll, smoky mountain roll, squid salad and seaweed salad. I really enjoyed the golden eye roll. Today's visit I tried the miso ramen. It was delicious. My husband is currently picking up our dinner for tonight from them, lol. We will definitely visit often! read more

Figured we would give this place a try after hearing about it in a local fb group. Big mistake. My daughter and I are both allergic to egg so asked if we can have our fries rice without egg. You know, use the white rice and soy and fry it. We were told it is not possible to fry rice without egg. Seriously?? I have eaten Chinese and Japanese food is numerous states and a few other countries and NOT ONCE have I been told it's impossible to make fried rice without egg. I thought I'd finally try Kokita after reading over their online menu and seeing calamari which is one of my go to favorites!I ordered the calamari,the fried soft shell crab,the spider roll and fried rice.First they could not find my order for about 15 minutes of wondering around looking at the bags and shaking their heads they found it under my first name ... no last name.The food wasn't even mediocre. The calamari was unlike any I've encountered in shape and texture.It was cold ,bland,and fishy!The crabs were the same yet maybe even more fishy. The roll was just ok along with my cold steamed not fried rice.Nice folks but I doubt I'll be craving anything fishy in the near future. read more

This was a place that we were really looking forward to. We stopped by 4 different times before we were able to eat there. ( and yes they were " opened" every time. We always eat with our family of 4-6 people . The first time; they were having some sort of staffing issues and we were met at the door by a barking aggressive acting white Pomeranian looking dog. A guy came to the door and said they couldn't serve us due to a staffing problem. Second visit; we went in and was seated to be served. We ordered tea( they didn't have it that day), we ordered ramen ( they didn't have it) we tried to order a third thing which I do not remember what it was( guess what..... they didn't have it) although it was all on the menu. We left! After a week or so we went back during open hours and guess what.... they had closed early! We were there just after lunch and they were closed! Fourth and last chance! We actually got in an was seated. I ordered the dinner box with teriyaki chicken. It was ok. Mediocre at best. Not very good. Nothing stood out about the food. My wife ordered hibachi shrimp and she received hibachi chicken. So that wasn't good because my wife doesn't like chicken. We were both supposed to have gotten salads with our meals which were never brought out. They try to offer too much menu Japanese, sushi, Thai, Chinese etc. They need to focus on one and get it right instead of messing up on all of it. After 4 chances we will not be back. I would not recommend them unless you just like mediocre food with high prices . I am a good blogger, blogger and retired chef so I do have a knowledge of the good industry. Great to have a good Asian food restaurant in Sweetwater. Fried calamari appetizer is great! Sichuan chicken was really good, but would have been spicier. Sushi was good, and fish was fresh. Really good service and decor is very neat and clean. Definitely a place to return! read more

I went the other day, and today decided to check the reviews and saw how many awful ones there were; so let me shine a little light. I placed an order for .. well, A LOT of sushi. When I went inside, I was met with not only a very clean environment but a wonderful staff. The food was immaculate (dragon, salmon, crab, and shrimp tempura roll along with calamari). During the first few years of these hometown establishments, especially one that isn't a home style place, please be patient with them! They're learning the ropes as well as our town. I'm about to order some more sushi from there, seeing as i can't keep it out of my head. 10/10 read more

Great first experience! At the time of writing this, they've been open 3 days and the staff is still being trained, so service was a bit slow. More importantly the food was great! We tried the fried pork Gyoza, which was a good sized portion and tasted fresh! The hot and sour soup was spicier than what we're used to around here, but that's by no means a complaint. Overpriced Asian food. Bad hours, the food is pretty good but waaay overpriced. Not a heck of a lot different than the other Sweetwater Asian offering, overpriced for the quality.
