Came for brunch on a Saturday morning with a group of 4. This place has super cute decor with a lively atmosphere. We had a reservation, but still had to wait a for a bit to be seated (that didn't bother us too much though. We just sat at the bar until our table was ready). Once seated our server was great. He had his hands full with a number of tables, but managed to still be attentive to our needs. I'm obsessed with callaloo and ackee & saltfish so I ordered the Sautéed Caribbean Bowl. I did not enjoy the boiled plantain, boiled dumpling, or boiled egg, but the callaloo and ackee & saltfish were delicious!! That part definitely did not disappoint. I also tried the French Toast and Chicken. The fried chicken was nice and crispy. The french toast was great. I loved the thick cuts of brioche. A friend raved about the mac & cheese so I gave that a try as well and was pleasantly surprised! If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely come back to try more items on the menu. read more

Tried Kokomo's Girl Dinner Thursday and I love a good NYC deal when I find one. For $25 you get a cocktail, house salad, spicy alfredo pasta and truffle fries which is honestly a solid amount of food for the price. I went with the lychee martini and it was really good and refreshing. The pasta had a little spice to it and the truffle fries were a great side. The restaurant has a nice vibe and it's definitely a good place to go with friends for dinner and drinks without spending a crazy amount. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you're looking for a cute girls night spot in NYC. read more

Kokomo has been on my list for awhile now but I've never had people or an opportunity to attend. Finally (and I do mean, FINALLY), I had a chance to stop in for their 'KoKo After Dark' weekly event to celebrate a close friend's birthday. We stopped in on a rather cold Saturday night around 11pm and were warmly greeted by the staff. The restaurant seems to have a dining side and a lounge area. The decor had a sort of tropical, upscale vibe. We were offered a table but only on the premise that we'd have to get up if a bottle reservation came in. We made ourselves comfortable and enjoyed the vibe. Unfortunately, it was a slow night, probably due to the sudden shift to colder temperatures. The crowd was very small but the music was on point! The DJ played a great mix of Dancehall, Afro-beats, and R&B. I'm an old-school lover of 80s R&B and let me tell you, he rocked the house! The crowd appeared mostly to be late-20s to mid-30s and mature. Everyone was enjoying the music and mingling amongst themselves. It was a vibe! As we enjoyed the night, we partook in some food and drinks. After a certain time, I think the kitchen offers an abbreviated menu for the lounge. I love this because if you've never had the full menu like me, it gives you an opportunity to get a sampling. I opted for the oxtail quesdillas, while one of my friends had the glazed wings in a mango habenero sauce. We also had hookah for the table. As we waited, the servers came around with free shots of lemon drop drinks. Very delicious and a great compliment to the celebration. Our food was up within a few minutes. Visually, everything looked great. The oxtail quesdillas were very innovative but I wasn't in love. The oxtail meat was tender and the seasoning was ok, I just didn't feel like it was a great combination of ingredients. Caribbean oxtail tends to have a braised taste or savory flavor. When it is paired with cheese and guacamole, it did'nt balance well for me and It felt like it was missing something. On the other hand, the wings were delicious. The sauce was sort of carmelized on the chicken and the meat was soft. They also were'nt too spicy. As the night went on, we enjoyed the music and refilled our drinks as needed. Staff were friendly and attentive. No issues at all. Pricing also seemed fair and appropriate for the offerings. The event typically ends at 3am but due to the slow night, they shut down at 2am. Bummer but I still had a great time and enough of a peek to know that I want to return. I'll be returning and I would recommend to others. My boyfriend and I drove all the way from West Babylon, Long Island, to try KOKOMO after seeing so many amazing reviews and following them on Instagram. We thought Labor Day would be the perfect day to finally check it out -- but sadly, the experience was a complete disappointment. The biggest issue was the service. When we arrived, the host told us we could sit outside or inside and mentioned that they were serving small bites. We chose to sit inside because the music outside was extremely loud, and we wanted to be able to have a conversation. But once we sat down, it became clear that no one intended to serve us. If inside seating wasn't actually available for dining, why offer it at all? It felt rude and misleading. When we finally decided to leave, the staff didn't acknowledge us, apologize, or try to make it right. Instead, they stood outside, laughing and talking about us as we walked away. That was the final insult. After making the trip and coming in with such high hopes, it was disheartening to be treated that way. We didn't even get the chance to try the food -- and honestly, after the service, I'm glad we didn't. I'm tired of being let down by overhyped spots online, where either the service or the food ends up falling short. This time, it was the service, and it ruined the whole experience. For a restaurant with such a strong reputation -- and one I specifically wanted to support as a Black-owned business -- the lack of professionalism and courtesy was really disappointing. I have been to Kokomo several times. This review is based off of the collective times I have been there. You can never get anyone on the phone when you call. I made a reservation once for myself and one other person and they told us to sit by the bar while they prepared to seat us. We waited at the bar and had to follow-up with them more than three times about when the table would be ready. We waited a significantly long time at the bar, especially given we made a reservation in advance of our arrival. They could have at least offered us a drink each or an appetizer to share on the house since there was such a long wait. Then they also forgot to bring out one of the dishes we ordered. There seems to always be a delay with the food coming out. On two occasions I noticed flies flying around the food, which was extremely off-putting. I have had to ask for glassware and silverware to be changed because they were still soiled from the last person who used them and weren't washed or cleaned properly. I prefer the original menu. The quality of the food has gone down significantly over the years. I would love to see this business turn things around for the better but I am in no rush to return to see if they have. read more

Visited Kokomo for the first time this past weekend, and overall had a nice time. The music and moody lighting were the best parts of the experience, although I wished it had been that the overall experience aligned with the price point. Kokomo seemed to be a really beautiful space, with ambient lighting and great music choices. The staff were pretty friendly and the drinks were tasty. The reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 4 is due to the jerk wings, (4 wings) at $26 , being a bit undercooked and the skin not being fried well. The flavor was great, but soft wings are not favored, and for the price, I would have expected better. Also, portions were much smaller than expected, and the cost of their appetizers were comparable to the entrees. I don't mind spending on a great dining experience, I just want the full experience to align. Be aware: there is an automatic gratuity charge for a party of (2) which I found to be different than prior experiences at similar dining venues and unnecessary. Parties of (4) or more is more aligned for automatic charges. Just felt as if that mandate was out of left field. Celebrated my birthday in NYC and had dinner here with 8 of my friends. I couldn't have asked for a better Birthday Celebration. We arrived just as they opened on a Tuesday afternoon. The staff was very accommodating to our party size and shared all of the daily and happy hour specials with us. We started with a round of Rum Punch on happy hour and then moved on to our appetizers. I ordered the tacos and decided to share but the one I tried was like nothing I've ever had. The oxtail taco told me all I needed to know about the flavor and tenderness of the oxtails so of course I ordered the oxtails, rice and peas, and plantains for dinner. I tried some mac and cheese and brown stew chicken from someone else's plate and literally everything I tried I would order again. Just as we got started with dinner they brought out round two of our drinks and ended the evening with a celebratory desert. Visited Kokomo today and was able to snag a last-minute reservation, which was a nice surprise. We arrived a bit early and were seated right away. The atmosphere and decor were beautiful really great vibes all around. My sisters ordered the oxtail, and while they said the flavor was good, unfortunately, the dish came out cold. My husband tried the yardi shrimp flatbread but only enjoyed the shrimp everything else missed the mark for him. I had the curry crab gyoza, which was pretty tasty, and the pikliz fish sandwich was just okay. I did appreciate how soft the bun was, and the pikliz flavor came through nicely. We also ordered the Painkiller cocktail, which was definitely a hit really well done. We were hoping to do the unlimited mimosa option since it was Sunday, but we were told that's not offered on Sundays, which was a bit disappointing. The only different thing about this experience was a photography girl comes around and asks to take a bunch of pictures and then later comes out with many already framed for sale. Although the pictures were nice and we bought one I don't really like the solicitation during my meal hour. Now to the food. I unfortunately was enjoying myself and forgot to take all my visuals with the exception of Kokos Chicken and waffles. They were pretty memorable. The pancake was moist, just the right sweetness and edges were crispy, the chicken was seasoned well. The other item we got was the Yardee Shrimp Flatbread. It was my least favorite. I had been wanting to try and support this establishment for some time and when one of my besties came into town recently to celebrate my birthday with me, I booked a reservation here. It's located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn which often means the chances of it being a vibe are high. Williamsburg has a dope restaurant scene with all kinds of delicious cuisine options. So we get there, check in outside, and we can hear the music from outside. I feel like I'm about to enter a bashment party and I'm like, "let's go!" We had a 5 pm reservation on a Sunday so the lighting was lower but the decor felt warm and cozy. Where we were seated, there was a pretty sky window above us. Hookah is available if that's your thing too. That DJ was ROCKIN, okay? He played soca, dancehall, r&b, everythang. I kept wanting to get out of my seat and dance! On that note, the music was loud. I don't recommend going here for a first date or if you want to talk and catch up with people, my throat was def a little sore from having to talk louder to be heard. lol Go there for the food, music and vibes. Don't go there to talk. Haha. The food and drinks were good. I'd come back to try some other things on the menu. My vegans, there arent a ton of main dishes for you but there are some and of course vegans are experts at ordering a bunch of sides if need be. Lol. For a drink, I ordered the sorrel mule and it was tasty and refreshing. For food I was torn between the pikliz fish sandwich and the jerkmi burger. When it comes to Caribbean food restaurants, I typically stick to mom & pop spots where the focus is on the food, so I was skeptical about Kokomo because it's very cute and they do a lot of extra stuff like taking photos to sell to you in frames (reminded me of nightclub photos before around 2010). I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I ordered the oxtail - which was delicious, lots of meat, nice thick brown sauce, and a side of rice and peas. My sister ordered the lentil (falafel) curry - that was a bit salty. We also had the fish tacos - these were mostly sauce but still pretty good especially if you're hungry. The service was friendly but staff needed improvement (it felt disjointed like a soft opening) I would come here again if I was nearby. Unfortunately from beginning to end the service was just -- bad... after a 15 minute wait I had to go to the hostess and ask if our server knew we were seated. We also didn't have utensils for a majority of our time sat. I have a shellfish allergy and it wasn't on the menu, nor was it explained that my dish had shrimp. Thankfully I saw a shrimp tail before I ate anything. Massive liability for the business. Our food was intended to come out separately. Whether they meant to or not, that was the impression given... The server also wasn't the only issue. The secondary staff were very vigilant about refilling the water of the tables around us, but we went ignored. It wasn't until the manager came to apologize for the food mishap that we had to explicitly ask for a water refill. The manager did their job to salvage what little service we did receive. They made every attempt to make it right but due to other commitments, we just couldn't wait any longer. We ended up leaving and we were left extremely disappointed. To the last moment, paying for the check, we still went ignored. If I hadn't held up my check to our server, she'd have walked right by and went about her business, or tending to other guests. I want this place to succeed but the service needs to improve. It's unfortunate, but I would not recommend this place for sit down service. Rasta balls, glazed wings, jerk chicken tacos. The best thing we ate were the tacos. Those were so good. The wings were also good. The Rasta balls weren't bad at all but I feel they were a bit dry. They can use a bit more sauce. Also, Rasta pasta has a good kick to it but I was missing that element in the Rasta balls. Drinks: The after dark menu had very limited cocktail options. The majority were made with Hennessy (which I don't drink). We wanted to get the Tropical or Mango rum punch but they were not being served on the rocks, only in sickie form. We then opted for the standard margarita. It tasted like it came from low quality pre-made margarita mix bottle... I couldn't finish it Service: Keyonah (apologies to her if I misspelled her name!) was great! Super attentive and sweet. For a more intimate group of 4, you may want to choose another location. My favorite dish of the evening was the Rasta balls, which are similar to Mac and cheese fritters, but instead stuffed with Rasta pasta, a classic vegetarian option at Jamaican restaurants. These were super well spiced and I only wished it could have been an entree. For my main, I opted for the lentil "meatball"s. The texture of the meatballs was good, although the flavor of the curry was most akin to Japanese curry, but lacking a little bit of body. The pineapple ginger flavor was no bueno, it had no taste. 2 of us opted to have it swapped for another flavor but the other 2 were really good. Food: we wanted to try the oxtail flatbread but she sad they didn't have any flatbreads. We opted for the wings (Gochujang flavor) and crab cakes. The cakes were okay but the wings were really good! Me and my fiancé came here for dinner and a few drinks before heading over to the spa down the street when you enter into the restaurant, the atmosphere is nice. The bar is lit up beautifully and the music is not too loud. We were seated at our tables where the seat was a swing, and you sat side-by-side with the person that you came with for drinks. I ordered the dark and stormy my girl got the we limin and for dinner, I ordered the braised oxtails which came with rice and peas, carrots, and broccoli and my girl got the lamb chops, which came with home fries and a poached egg you can order the egg however you want it prepared. The food was delicious, but the price is a bit steep which should not be a surprise given the area that you are in. I had a nice time here. I probably will come back and try some more of the drinks or some more of the food options on the menu, but it definitely was a nice vibe for the night. read more

This might be my shortest review! But all I can say is I wish I could put more than 5 stars! I'm a New Yorker and while in town for my birthday it only made sense to visit Kokomo to kick off my birthday weekend. Service 10/10: we were running late due to the "lovely" NYC traffic. We called and they weee completely understanding Ambiance: 10/10: the music was a VIBE I wished I asked them for the playlist. Lol! Food: 10/10 10/10 the flavor the yummy goodness omg everything was so darn good! I HIGHLY recommend and I can't wait to eat here again the next time I'm home. read more

I heard so many great things about Kokomos so I decided to check them for restraint and have brunch ! I give this establishment a 10/10. The ambiance is gorgeous, the customer service was pleasant and hospitable. I must of updated my rsvp 3x and it was respected and honored . My girls and I had held a intimate book club for brunch and the waiter knew exactly what was taking place . He also gave his two scents on book clubs and shared that he loved to read . I had a party of 4 and we each ordered a different dish . I ordered the french toast and fried chicken with a side of eggs . And of course a Bellini or two all four of us were fulfilled and had no complaints . I can't wait to check out their dinner menu because I'm definitely returning. This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend that had gone by recently. I went for dinner the drinks were amazing! I loved sop thyme it was light and delicious. The pasta was AMAZING. Has a tiny kick to it. It's veggies (spinach and tomato) noodles. The sauce is what does it! Chicken was delicious. Decor is super cute and trendy both inside and out! Loved the vibe. Service was attentive and quick! I would definitely come back to try brunch. read more
