Jeramie and his crew put in a new flagstone surface in our backyard, and replace and enlarged our front brick pathway. The prior flagstone in the back was just set on dirt, so it was sinking into the ground, and the grout between the stones was breaking up. The new one has a nice concrete base that the stones are set onto. Nice not having to worry about missteps from an uneven surface. Our front brick path was barely 1 foot wide, and also was just set into the dirt, so it was below the level of the driveway. Jeramie's guys widened the path by taking out some rosemary and moving a sprinkler riser. The new path is beautiful, and level with the driveway now. Workers showed up before I was up, and waited till the sun came up to start working. When the job was done, everything was cleaned up as well. I can't recommend Concrete Etc. enough! read more

Jeramie and his team did a phenomenal job redoing the concrete on both sides of our house, building a 6ft block wall in place of a wrought iron fence, and building a planter out of block wall. All of which turned out better than I expected, and I couldn't be happier with the results. They are the real deal with providing a professional quote that included a detailed job scope, provide sound advice for how to make your vision or design come true, and pay attention to the little details throughout every phase of the job. Their workmanship is top notch. I noticed they were always using a 6ft level to ensure the walls are straight and plumb, which has allowed me to easily install a gate without having to use odd fillers or wedges to make it look right. The concrete work is impeccable with just the right amount of slope for proper drainage without looking excessive. They always showed up on time and kept the jobsite clean at the end of every day. When it comes to communication, there is no one better than Jeramie. He always kept me updated on progress, immediately brought any issues to my attention, and was always available to answer any questions or concerns I had. Jeramie (the owner) & Jose (the job foreman) are absolutely now & forever on my list of favorite subcontractors. If only every worker who came to my house were so fabulous my life would be so much better... I hired Jeramie because I was super impressed by the artistry of his work for Judy Kameon, the celebrity garden designer, at a number of her sites. I don't see a lot of concrete walls that I would call beautiful, but as it turns out, a lot of the walls around Los Angeles that are Pinterest-worthy, are actually his work! In addition to being an incredible craftsman, Jeramie is SUPER ORGANIZED which was a huge help to me because I am working as my own contractor. (Note: I have no experience as a contractor). He showed up early, helped me deal with the 20 different city inspections required, & generally kept my two projects moving forward efficiently. I would say that his super-power is actually communication, because he is great at explaining every part of the job, particularly the complex work flow, & wrangling problematic inspectors & engineers into submission. It would have been absolutely terrifying to deal with the city & the permits through all the job changes, on two separate projects that were being built simultaneously, without Jeramie's solid advice for each step & some major handholding. In addition to building a 5 foot retaining wall at the back of my property that would keep the hillside behind my house from falling down on me, Jeramie also rebuilt the damaged front porch of my 100 year old bungalow to period-specific perfection. These two jobs sound simple, but the engineering required for my hillside property, was crazy-making. No. Jeramie is not cheap. But without his friendly interventions & excellent problem-solving skills, I would have had to pay an outside soil engineer $5000 to $10,000 to tell me whether or not I could legally use the dirt that's been in my yard for all of eternity as fill dirt. (Jeramie was able to convince a series of city inspectors that I could use gravel back fill instead). I would have had to pay my structural engineer $350 per visit to talk to the city inspectors, something that Jeramie did free of charge...20 times. Finally, I would have had to build a hideous, $3000 concrete swale across my backyard that drained to the street per the city, but Jeramie helped me research the new green building codes, so I was able to successfully argue with the city of Los Angeles that rainwater run-off from my hardscaping should be used to actually water my garden, not wastefully run into the storm drain. The way he redesigned the drainage from my retaining wall will save me money on all future water bills. With concrete work, there's no easy or cheap fix if you screw up. You pretty much have to scrap everything & start over from scratch if a city inspector doesn't like the work. When it comes to the human labor element of concrete work you really do get what you pay for. Jeramie is worth paying for. read more

After reviewing competitive quotes, we decided to award our front yard, driveway, side and backyard concrete and stone mason work to Concrete Etc. We found their quote to be the most detailed, professional and transparent of the several received. Although Concrete Etc.'s quote was not the cheapest, we decided to award them the job based on value, knowledge and enthusiasm for our project. The owner Jeremy Alajarin was always available to meet during the quote process and willingly contributed his knowledge and expertise of all things hardscape. He was instrumental in suggesting several options to the challenging parts of the project. Once given the job award, Jeremy and The Concrete Etc. team were consistently and timely on site. The foreman and the main workers, all with years of hardscape experience, were dedicated to the project and worked with care. They also raised suggestions on improving the features and scope of the project. Jeremy scheduled and planned the work productively around the winter weather challenges which saw significant rainfall. We were most impressed when our barbecue concrete counter top which looked perfect for us, did not pass Jeremy's standards and he had it redone without charge. This was our first time working with concrete and having to make the many choices to fit our vision and budget was daunting. But Jeremy was there patiently explaining options and understanding our desires. He was great assistance in helping us get what we wanted. As part of our project we decided to change out our perimeter fence, re-plaster the pool and install new landscape with drip irrigation. Jeremy was instrumental in coordinating all contractors work efforts and access to the property considering the extensive concrete work performed. I had an emergency that I asked them to come assist me which involved saw cutting while I installed a new utility water line from the street to my house on a weekend. After the line was installed they came back and redid the concrete beyond my satisfaction. They are beyond thorough and their pricing was very reasonable . During the construction a few previously unknown issues with our drainage was found and quickly corrected. He and his team were always on time and cleaned up the construction mess prior to leaving. We wanted an estimate to repair a block wall and other concrete. Once I explained we were working with an insurance adjuster and the city, he said that an estimate would cost $150 because he doesn't want to "chase that kind of business". I indicated that we were the ones choosing the vendor and paying for it. Anyway we chose not to pay. Chose someone else rated high in Yelp and received a free estimate with no problem. Concrete, Etc recently did the all the demo work and installation of new concrete around my house, which included a large driveway, patio, sidewalks and other slabs. The work they did is excellent in terms of quality and aesthetics - the stamped and tinted concrete turned out great. They were diligent in finishing the job in the allotted time and kept the work areas neat. Jeramie and his crew were attentive, respectful, and in general were very easy to work with. Their pricing was consistent with other quotes that I had received. One of my major concerns for the project was the integration of a new gravity-based drainage system that would remove rainwater over 150 feet to the street (an old system based on pumping the water was marginal at best). I waited for a really heavy rain, which we had recently, to see how the new system would perform, and I am very pleased that it had no problem at all in removing the water. I don't do many reviews but they did an exceptional job, so I felt compelled to write this. read more
