This brand new food truck just happened to open the same week as I happened to move to Melbourne…read more Coincidence? I think not. The truck serves a Mexican street food specialty, found in the cities that straddle the U.S./Mexico border in Arizona and California. So, here you have a food truck that is serving the original food truck food... a danger dog. It got that name because it's a hot dog wrapped in bacon. For awhile the health department in L.A. would try to shut down the hot dog vendors for fear that the bacon must be undercooked and therefore a danger to unsuspecting customers. Obviously, the U.S. has it's share of nanny state laws. But you can't keep a good dog down. This street food can be found in the U.S. from the East Coast to the West Coast - and now in Melbourne too. The danger dog here is wrapped in crispy bacon and the fresh roll is piled high with onions and capsicums. The top is garnished with ketchup, mustard, and mayo. But, if you just really want to have a flavor explosion in your mouth, they also make a version topped with guacamole and pico the gallo. I highly recommend this version. The couple running the truck are super nice and excited about their new venture. Check out their facebook page or webpage to keep tabs on them. Sure, it's not the healthiest thing you've ever eaten. But, sometimes you have to live dangerously.

My initial experience was not too bad The food is good for what it is and a welcome relief from the usual late feed. Got the vegan Weiner and wasnt that impressed however with the food itself. Chips were also a bit weird. Kinda soggy and the sauce were a bit meh Staff were super friendly to be fair and decent vibes to accompany the rusty interior aesthetic. Pretty sure they missed another order when I came back a second time. They tried to resolve the issue via FB messenger but it kinda just became radio silence after awhile In summary; not terrible :p

We stumbled across Massive Wieners 25 inch hotdog challenge - so we went to give it a go! The venue is easily accessible via public transport, with tram stops and Prahran train station nearby. It is a cute venue set up like an old American-style hotdog place. We found it entertaining to browse around at all the photos of people that have tried the challenge on the walls. Both staff members we dealt with on were extremely friendly, particularly the owner. He was very sociable and made the whole experience better. They also have vegetarian/vegan options so everyone can have a try! The hotdog really was HUGE! We thought it was pretty great value, as it was only $15.00 - with the allowance of two condiments and unlimited water. The hotdog was really tasty, and had a really nice flavour. There was a very generous amount of sauce, which is definitely needed to complete the challenge successfully! The bun was nice too, but unfortunately both of us succumb to the sheer size of the hotdog - meaning we landed a spot on the 'Did not finish' wall. It was a fun experience despite the serious feeling of fullness for the rest of the day. We look forward to going back to Massive Wieners and trying some of their delicious sides. Check them out!

Alas, I am still yet to fulfill that yearning for a taste of home. When I heard of Dognation's opening I was thrilled. Tiny, obscure Melb charm serving an American menu? Glory be! Sadly, my radar was a bit off on that one. Let me be clear: DogNation is not American, nor do they serve anything that could be called such by any stretch of the imagination. Preconceptions aside, DogNation serves sausages with a global twist. You can get a Mexican dog smothered in chili con carne, an Aussie dog complete with beetroot relish, an English dog with peas and mash.... While I very much appreciate the concept, the delivery just isn't there. I have tried so hard to like this place, but it's really just. not. good. The dogs are HUGE, messy, and rather flavorless. To hide this, they are quite literally dripping with toppings. I'd recommend you take a seat to attempt eating these monsters, but with a grand total of two chairs to DogNation's name it's not likely you'll be able to. I wanted to love you, DogNation, but your dogs just aren't doing it.

We went there last night for a VIP tasting event. This is by far their biggest and most accommodating store in terms of seating space so it's very convenient if you're hanging out with mates as you can grab a seat and eat in. I also like the layout, with a mix of couch/table and low tables/chairs. On the menu, we had about 4 types of fries and they were all very nice especially with your preferred matching sauce. The chunky fries works well with the Belgian and London sauce I found while the sweet potato, dipped in the Belgian sauce, is pretty good. An upcoming addition to the menu 'The Shanghai Sauce' I think? has a good blend of flavours but I found it to be too runny. The chilli dog was good and reminded me a bit of the one I had in LA at Carney's. Out of the burgers, the tropical Parma burger (minus pineapple for me) was one of the best I had on the night. Another upcoming addition 'Rekha's burger' was quite nice. One of the things that separates lord of the fries I guess from other burger joints is their broader vegan options. Their sauces are also pretty good and they have quite a few of them so that keeps things interesting. It might not become your preferred place to grab this abso-freaking-lutely amazing thing that we call a burger but it's they definitely deserve a look-in ah least.
