When I arrived for my 9 PM appointment, a woman walked into the room instead. I asked if Tony was available, and she responded with something I couldn't understand before immediately beginning the massage by wrapping my head in a towel with the force of someone trying to start a lawn mower. I genuinely thought my earrings were about to be ripped out of my ears. I asked her within the first 5m to go softer, but the pressure wasn't even the main issue - it felt like she wasn't actually working on my muscles. Somehow she managed to spend an hour pounding on bones I didn't even know could be massaged, including my tailbone and elbows. To be fair, even if she had reduced the pressure, she was still working all the wrong places. The entire massage felt less like bodywork and more like being attacked by a hundred tiny crabs while an angry toddler threw bricks at me. I spent the session counting down the minutes until it was over. Every time she finished one body part, I felt relieved simply because that meant we were closer to being done. All the movements weren't slow and calm; they were quick, frightening, and aggressive. I had hot stones as a part of my treatment, but her carelessness throughout the regular massage portion made me terrified of what the hot stones were going to be like (thankfully, they were a normal hot stone temperature). I was visibly uncomfortable the entire time - wincing, flinching, and even making noises because the massage hurt. I've never spent an entire massage staring at the clock and mentally calculating how much longer I had to survive. Usually massages make you lose track of time. This one made every minute feel like an hour. I left feeling more stressed and sore than when I arrived. I've had many massages over the years, and this was by far the most uncomfortable, painful, and disappointing one I've ever received. The fact that I specifically requested a particular therapist, was told that request would be honored, and then received a completely different therapist only made the experience worse. I started scanning facial places in Koreatown because I decided I wanted to get one there. I found WB Spa on Google. They have a nice, functional website where you can book online. Since I was coming last minute, I gave them a call to confirm their availability. They were able to see me asap. Their location is on the 5th floor of a building at the end of Koreatown, closer to 5th Ave. I didn't have to buzz in and an elevator is available. The spa is located right off of the elevator when you get off. The building itself is kind of ugly and grimey, but WB itself is clean and modern looking once you step inside. They have a waiting area to sit while you wait for your service. I didn't have to wait at all. They took me in immediately for my Deep Cleansing Facial ($65). The price point is very good as they use various machines and steaming techniques throughout the 45 minute facial. You can take off your shoes and sit on the comfortable beds during your service. I left feeling relaxed with soft skin. One thing I didn't care for was my esthetician talking to her coworkers while she was doing my service. The room I was in didn't have a wall that went all the way to the ceiling, so she was basically shouting to her coworkers while in the next room while I'm on the table. It ruined the relaxation aspect for a bit, though she eventually stopped doing this. The only bathroom in the facility is a bathroom in the hallway that has to be opened with a key. It's very small, not fancy. But if you need it, it's there. I suggest paying in cash because if you pay with card, they will charge you tax plus a credit card surcharge, so it basically increases the cost of the service by $5 or more to pay with a credit card. They have a member card where you can get a free service after visiting 10 times and I was given one upon leaving. Overall, this was a decent, clean spot at an affordable price. I would consider coming back.

They have a loyalty card too where you can get a free massage after your 10th visit. It's no frills so come with your expectations for decor and ambiance tempered but man if you ask them to go hard they will. When I checked in, I explicitly told the receptionist that I was worried about my coat because it had recently been stolen. It is a MaxMara coat and quite expensive. I asked for confirmation that it would be safe in their very open closet, which is easily accessible from the lounge and only partially covered by a thin curtain that was already half open. I was told it would be fine, but I still felt uneasy. Unfortunately, that concern turned out to be very valid. While I was waiting for my massage, a guest who had completed her service came out asking for her brown coat. Shockingly, the receptionist grabbed my coat and handed it to her while I was sitting there watching. They chatted for a moment, and it looked like she was about to walk out with it. I had to jump up, ask to grab my coat to get something, and then tell them both that she was holding my jacket. Her actual coat was completely different in color and style. Dark brown versus camel and much thinner and lighter. While this may have been an honest mistake, it was incredibly careless and honestly alarming given how easily my coat could have walked out the door. On top of that, I was given shoes that were comically oversized. I wear a women's size 8 and these felt like a men's size 11. I nearly tripped walking in them. Because of all this, I was tense throughout most of my massage, still shaken by nearly losing my coat, which completely defeated the purpose of booking a relaxing service. I also want to mention a booking issue. When I originally scheduled, I specifically requested a female masseuse. The name provided was unclear, and my team ended up Googling it and realizing it was a man. We had to call back to request a change and were told they would try to accommodate when I arrived, which is not acceptable. The massage was good but too much time fumbling with the sheet. and massaging both legs simultaneously- felt rushed even though i had 60 min. Pro: The actual massage - when it was actually happening was good. but, Con: Adjusting sheets and getting props , took a bit long and takes up a chunk of the time. There is one bathroom. so you don't really have that opportunity to fix your makeup etc. It's a good massage but not a "spa" per se.
