I've never had a tip laughed at in my face. Especially after being massaged by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. In China Town, I start with a 30 minute massage. If it's good, I upgrade to 60 or 90. But you never know what you're going to get so I start small. This massage was 30 minutes of back scratching and line drawing. At one point I wondered if I was supposed to guess what letters she was drawing on my back! She asked me if I wanted to keep going, I said,"No thanks." Then I get dressed (in front of her) and she walks me out. She asks me to pay cash, which I didn't have any. Then she said, "You pay with card but tip in cash." I had literally 4 dollars. Which is more than I thought the30 minute massage was worth. But when she saw I didn't have much cash, she asked me to tip her on the card. As she swiped my card I asked: "What kind of massage was that?" Her: Regular. Me: No, was it Swedish, Thai, Shiatsu? Her: No, just regular. Me: .... (thinking you have no idea what you're doing.) She handed me the receipt. I gave her a $7 tip. (that's almost 25%) She grabbed the reciept from me and said, "How much you tip?" looked at the receipt and literally said to my face, "This tip no good." Then both her and the woman next to her started laughing. I wanted to fart as loud as I could in their lobby then helicopter spin with my arms out. That's the only response I could think would dignify such a terrible experience. But my tank was on empty. So this review will have to do. read more

I don't know who is writing all those great reviews but this place is just horrid. I went with a life booker for a massage. Deep tissue or Swedish. First, making the appt was easy, I'll give you that but that was the only nice part of it. When I got there, I had to walk up this sketchy flight of stairs which should've been my first warning. But alas. Then, they just asked if I wanted a massage I said yes and that was it. No what kind of massage, etc. After they led me to this girl who was proceeding to bring me to this room but once she found out I had a life booker, she promptly turned around and brought me to a different room. One with two beds and very thin sheets. That should've been my second warning. Once the massage started, the girl was all over the place. She did my back for a few strokes then my arm then my back again the my leg/butt. Not only that but she also pulled my panties to below my butt. Usually they just pull it down a little to get to the tailbone but she completely uncovered me. And when she started to do my legs more, she kept giving me a wedgie but pulling my underwear into the crack. Not the most pleasant thing. Also, the headrest was extremely uncomfortable. I think there was some sort of ridge or something that kept pressing into my forehead which later amounted to a hugeeee headache. After the massage, I had a sense of relief of this finally being over. But no. More problems. As I was handing over my life booker, the front lady immediately said $4 which I'm pretty sure is higher than the actual tax rate and told me to pay the girl 20%. Ummm pretty sure the tip is voluntary and I had paid 15% which was fine but she was quite adamant about giving the girl 20%. When I said no, she started lecturing me for 10 minutes about how I need to give 20%. After that lecture, who was going to pay 20%?? Even if I wanted to, I definitely didn't want to after THAT. Needless to say, I won't be going back and am thinking of calling life booker tomorrow to get a refund. Ridiculous. read more

I was there many times and they always ask me to open a package. I did. But after few times ...I think a good service should be maintain a good quality . But, I was burned three times while doing a facial spa. The equipment is supposed to be very carefully used with gel ..but the women who helped doing my facial didn't do it carefully . Let the electronic equipment burned my face!!! And , after I came out going home looked at my face! I got two spot burned. How could that happened if they supposed to make you feel relaxing and beautiful!? I won't recommend you this place if you want a really professional spa. They just keep asking you to open a package. I went to this place because of all the 4 and 5 star reviews. My experience was otherwise. There was a certificate on Lifebooker for $39 with a 15% discount. I called the spa and spoke with the manager who said she preferred if I paid her directly the same price. ( I imagine they have to pay Lifebooker a commission.) So I booked. The place is clean and pleasant and my masseuse was a nice woman who massaged me head to toe. I get massages weekly but I have never had one so disorganized, moving from one part of the body to another and then back again. I doubt whether the masseuse had professional training at all. The touch was too rapid to be relaxing and not deep enough to get the knots out. If you are modest, you would be bothered by the lack of draping. I was not. The table was covered with thin paper which tore immediately so I rushed home to take a shower. It was not at all relaxing. On the positive side, the masseuse did wash all the oil off afterward. And although I was assured I would get a full hour, it was only 50 minutes which I didn't complain about since I wasn't enjoying it anyway. When I went to pay I was charged $43 . Since the regular price is $55, the tax would be under $2.50. I was not going to argue or punish the masseuse for this so I tipped and left but I won't return. Chinatown is full of inexpensive "spas" where one might do a lot better. read more

Came here after I got rejected from the other massage place (see prior review). At first, i thought it was a bit sketch especially cause it's upstairs but once I got up there, the decor and interior of the business was really elegant and nice. My friend and I both opted for 30 minute back massages ($35) and were taken into a room. There were two beds with a "fake" wall-door in between them. The two ladies that massaged us were extremely professional and did a great job. The lady I had got all my knots and wasn't too rough or gentle. I felt extremely relaxed. She made sure to turn the heat up so we wouldn't get cold. My favorite part was probably the hot towel that was used towards the end. Also when she massaged my arms and hands. Came to this place randomly, and now book massages with them on a regular basis. Was a little skeptical when I first went in, not because of decor - was actually very surprised with how elegant the space is - but due to the price I was quoted: $55 for an hour massage. Fortunately for me and my wallet, the massage was on par with a Swedish from Bliss and I left relaxed and stress-free. Additionally, I have been massaged by both male and female therapists (I'm a girl), and have never had any of them do anything that could be deemed less than professional. I came in here for a facial. The manager gave me a deal where she combined two of the facials into one. It was OK. Brow shaping was apart of the facial and it hurt more than the extractions. And when I got home I noticed a ton of stray hairs that I had to subsequently pluck. Also, my mask was kept on for a really long time, I almost thought they forgot about me! Came here for a massage. At first $55/hour seemed expensive for Chinatown (where there are many $35/hour places) but I didn't feel like walking around to look for another one so I went up. I can def see why they charge more, it is much better quality than other Asian massage places. The lobby and people who work here are very friendly and professional and the massage was very good. I came here for a Deep Cleansing Facial which is around $55 dollars, comparable to other salons in the area. The owner was able to fit me in late on a Wednesday. I called at about 5 PM and I was able to get a facial starting at 6. The ambiance and the spa is very clean, peaceful and relaxing. The owner will try to get you to buy a package and will offer to give you the first facial free if you do. However, because I had never tried the spa before I was hesitant and a little wary of this. i told the owner I would try out one facial first. The facial seemed to be through but I did have concerns. Mainly, that they used Johnson's baby oil and lotion to remove my makeup. Secondly, the facialist kept putting all the lotions, oils, and potions on my eyes. I've had facials before and never was the product directly slathered onto my eyelids. Finally, at one point I actually got alcohol in my eye since she hastily dripped some on by accident. I actually had to pull a tissue that was placed on my chest and dab my own eyes because of the burning. The facial did include extractions but the facialist even commented that she could not get to them all and to become back in three weeks. Overall, my face was left very smooth and clean. I just wish there wasn't so many incidents with getting product in my eye. This spa is clean, centrally located, and not a bad deal but I would be wary of who you end up with as your facialist. There are other salons that do the same service with fewer incidents in the area. read more

I've gone to Heaven E twice so far, I found it through yelp when I first moved to NYC looking for a massage spot somewhat close to my office. They close at 8 but have been so nice allowing me to schedule 7pm 1-hour massages since I get out so late. It is 55 dollars for one hour full body massage. Its conveniently located just steps away from the Canal st stop on 456. You go up the stairs and the place is brightly lit and looks well kept and clean. On my two separate visits, I've been in two different rooms and both very clean, dimmed lit, with typical asian zen music playing (and the least annoying and cheesy ones I've heard haha). I feel like most places its a toss up if you get different masseuses each time, who may differ in techniques/consistency in style but the masseuses from my two visits here have been amazing and they seem to follow a consistent style/method of massage. The masseuse was open to communication and very attentive, softly asking if I was ok in the middle of my session and making sure to ask if I was hurting or felt that she was pressing too hard. I will definitely come back here for the rest of my massage needs. I've tried other places ranging from more frillier spas to cheaper hole-in-the-walls and Heaven-E is the best mid-range spa I've been too. read more

I've been coming here for over a year. Initially my tattoo artist turned me on to the place, as he and some of his colleagues were frequent customers. I have a permanent injury in my shoulder and neck from a car accident and was looking for reliable, quality massage. Well, I found it! You shouldn't expect typical American massage work here. At first I was a little confused as to why the towel was kept on my body, but it helps warm your muscles and simulate your skin to assist in the benefits of your massage. Now I love it! Eventually they remove it and rub you down with oil, then at the end you get rubbed clean with a warm, steamy towel. It feels incredible. I always see the same woman (her name is Mei and she is A-Mei-zing!) and she works me over from scalp to toes and everywhere in between. If you've never had your butt massaged it'll be a definite shock, but they're very professional and it's so good for you! All my tension evaporates after an hour long session. Fa also gives a great massage with hot stones, and Peter is great if you prefer extremely intense, targeted body work. He does amazing things with pressure points in your body, but you need to be free the rest of the day to relax and detox. The place is beautiful, and I love ascending the stairway every time I come....I really feel like I'm escaping the city and being transported somewhere calm and relaxing. The owner is so kind and sweet to me (everyone is! they're all extremely friendly) and I look forward to my time here every week. For $55 a week plus tip, I am relaxed and relieved of the pain I feel in my body. You can't beat that! read more

I went here last month with my Lifebooker deal to get a one-hour deep tissue massage. The woman spent the first 10mins massaging me through a very thick towel, I couldn't even feel anything! As soon as the towel was removed and I'm laying there in just my thong, the door bursts open and a second woman comes in and it sounds like she was scolding the woman doing my "massage". They proceed to get into an argument while my butt checks are hanging out for everyone in the hallway to see. When she finally gets back to business, she gives me a one handed massage for the next 10mins while she talks on her cell phone!! I finally am able to pick my head up from the table and make a comment. She apologizes, snaps off the cell phone, then begins to give me the most painful, unenjoyable massage I have ever experienced. I have had several deep tissue massages but have never cried out in pain during them. I repeatedly told her she was hurting me but she didn't seem to understand. So, after wasting an hour of my life, I go to pay my tax and tip at the front desk. The woman behind the counter is yelling at me to pay 20% tip, I hadn't even gotten my wallet out yet! Absolutely LOOOOOVE this place. The staff are always warm, friendly, and most courteous. The manager Tina, is an absolute doll with a great sense of style and humor! I have been to numerous other spas within the area and have always had unneccessary products pushed on me. The staff does not do that here. They'll ask you if you need certain things and if you say "no", that's the end of it.The services here are all done very professionally from knowledgeable staff. I was recommended by Tina herself to use products from a company called DCL which is geared towards individuals with acnegenic and oily complexion. I have been using that line since about 3 years ago.The ambiance is certainly relaxing. The prices are a bit higher than most other places within the area, but not unfair given the spacious environment and location you're in. I say that they are a little higher than most is because I'm on a college-student/part-time-worker budget. LOL. I can't wait to go back and get some quality R&R done! =D read more

The masseuse applied heavy pressure as I requested, focusing on my lower back where she noticed I had problems from working out. Needless to say, the following day I no longer had back pain. I have tried a lot of places for a good massage, but they all pale in comparison with Heaven-E Spa. First of all, you will not find a cleaner Spa anywhere...period! That means a lot when you go for a massage. Who wants to lie on a massage table that is not 100% sanitary? And the masseuses there are second to none. You will get a great massage here that will leave you feeling at peace and totally relaxed. The staff could not be more friendly too. You will ALWAYS be greeted by a happy smiling face here. And finally, you will not be subjected to a group massage room either. You get a private room with real walls, and not dividing curtains. I can't say enough positive things about this great Spa. I am usually wary of Chinatown massage places, but had a good deal on Lifebook and some good reviews, and I don't need to fancy place, so I took a chance. Should have trusted my instincts - terrible. The place looks fine and seemed clean - there were two beds to a room but as I seemed to be the only person there was not a problem. The girl told me to remove my underwear and stepped out, but came back in while I was still getting undressed. I laid down and she started what I can only describe as jabbing at my back. She did not ask me any questions about the pressure or any physical issues I had - in fact the certificate said deep tissue or Swedish and I was not even asked which type I wanted. The pressure was painful and I asked her to lighten up but that had no effect - even when I yelped out loud when she hit a particularly sensitive area in my lower back she had not bothered to ask about. It was also not a full body massage - she spent the majority of time on back, then quickly rubbed down the legs, had me flip over, then rubbed on my chest area a bit (skipped the feet altogether). She then announced she was done (short of time of course-not that I minded in this instance), turned on the lights, and said it was time for me to tip her. She took my clothes off the hook on the back of the door and put them on the table, then hovered over me while I got dressed. The next morning my back was in serious pain and I have been popping Advil like candy ever since. Worst experience ever. read more

so i'm giving it 2 stars as the average of my 1st experience [which was pretty great] compared w/my 2nd experience [which was pretty bad]. my 1st experience was lovely. I rang and got thru immediately and got an appt at the exact time and date i wished. a quick walk up a fairly well-lit stairwell and greeted very nicely. taken to a quiet clean room and the male therapist, aside from barely speaking a word of english was very good, he used acupressure along with the swedish massage and it was lovely. i asked his name at the end to make sure to utilise him next time. the one thing i didn't like was being specifically asked in an accusatory tone at the end whether i left the therapist a tip, and when i said yes, of course, they still asked him, in chinese, to confirm as if they didn't believe me. HOWEVER, 2nd experience [part of the same 2-pack lifebooker massage package] hardly as lovely as the 1st time. i made an appt for a thurs but ultimately had to cancel as i wasn't feeling well, and rescheduled on the tele the same day for sun at 12pm mentioning that i wanted the same man i prviously had and mentioning him by the name he gave me [the woman on the phone said pls try to come around 11:30 if u can]. I arrived at 11:30 and there were 2 other women [not the one i previously dealt with] at the front desk who barely spoke english and we couldn't understand one another. i asked them to confirm that i had the same therapist as previously and they said no he's not here, because i wasn't even in the book and they didn't know to call him in. a furious dash to make other calls and one receptionist offered to do the massage herself [when i asked if she was a massage therapist she had no idea what i was saying] and said the man said he could be there in over an hour [NO i'm NOT waiting an hour after being told to be there earlier than i should have; the 2nd made other calls and said another man was coming in - whom i didn't know, had no idea his experience or what and he arrived almost before she hung up the phone. smh :-\ i think i should've known this was not going to end well when he started the session and after over 20 minutes working on my back thru a towel, no lotion or skin contact and constantly elbowing me in the one place on my lower back i said THREE times hurts and to be careful. 40 minutes in he decided to use some lotion and kept elbowing the same lower back region to the point i was not just wincing, i was audibly groaning tell him it hurts [he says, ohhh what happened there - well, idk, but it hurts and u keep using ur elbow in THE precise points it hurts so it's not like ur going to make it better that way]. the entire hour was basically more of the same on my back, hardly no attention to arms or legs, and definitely not the front of the legs [i never even flipped over - which might've been for the best]. to end it off, the woman i initially made the appts with was in the front when i came out and asked for an envelope to leave a tip as the man just disappeared [as quickly as he appeared] and when i put money in - she may have only seen some singles i had folded on top of the rest of the money] and made it a point to tell me that's not enough, that he's one of the better therapists {to "trust her"...even AFTER i already told her, when she asked how it was, that it wasn't great], and continued to tell me, after i continued to tell her the massage was not good, he wasn't who i asked for, the whole appt had been botched, and instead of attempting to rectify it, she just kept berating me about putting in a specific amt [at LEAST] as a tip. How dare someone tell me how much to tip esp AFTER i've already said the massage was not good. the fact i'm even leaving a tip they should be pleased. but this whole 2nd experience has completely put me off this place! so done! read more
