We came to relax and paint and have a beautiful experience, not to be slammed with songs loaded with F words, calling women bitc***, forcing women to do stuff kind of lyrics, and nigg* this and that laced throughout. About an hour of that before music transitioned to "random whatever" songs for about a half hour, then back to the rap. For most people, if not all, this is a special experience- couples, birthdays, romance, celebration, etc. so not everybody wants to hear this kind of music. How about instrumental, classical, jazz, or standard radio (CLEAN rock. R&B, rap, etc.)? Or better, do we even need music? We can then focus and enjoy each other's company. READ THE ROOM. Yes, we didn't speak up, but we shouldn't HAVE to. This is a professional business. Some White folks were uncomfortable AND even some Black folks, At a minimum, she should have asked, "Hey, is everybody okay with hard core rap, x-rated language, and women being called bit*****, kind of music?" 2) The instructor sat all the Black folks at one table, and all the White folks at another. I'm hoping that was just a weird fluke, but it was obvious. 3) Instructor/artist was very sweet, but not focused on her students as much as she could have been. She also ran over time. The location was great, but we wouldn't go back to this location, nor recommend to others unless the music changed and there was a different instructor. And we hope they don't play the same music at other locations.

You choose what color to paint the wood, then go thru a several step process until voila, you have a beautiful decorative wood plank for your home or as a gift. I love the selections where you can personalize with your family name and "est." date. They had a team of ladies come to our event to help with instructions and color recommendations if you needed them - super nice & helpful. Definitely allot two hours for this kind of event. I like that it was more private and intimate. Honestly it was like the other group wasn't even there which I liked. They had workers who helped them on their projects while we had some for our table who helped us. I can't remember the girl who was helping us, but she was good at helping me pick out the kind of wood and colors I wanted for my project because I wasn't sure. I didn't even know we'd be doing diy stuff like sanding our wood and nailing things together. I thought that was pretty neat and different. The staff was very welcoming to our party and helpful. They made sure we all were able to get the steps done that we needed. They showed us how to use the air gun which I thought was cool. I like how they showed us examples of other projects around the shop to get ideas from. You're also allowed to bring your own food and wine, which is similar to the sip and paints. Our party brought along some snacks and wine and it was just a great wind down time to get away from work and start off an enjoyable weekend I definitely will go back because I saw some other stuff I'd love to make!

Here are my thoughts: Location - The location is spacious and cute instead, reminds me of an art gallery. Parking - this is where it gets confusing, its in a small space but parking was confusing for me. I recommend coming earlier to find parking. My favorite thing was the was that the instructor made sure each of us knew what we were doing before having us doing it on our own. I also loved the music while we worked. I would come back! That worked great for us, I think it would have taken us longer for each individual to make one, and it allowed us to use teamwork. You start off with a short safety demo and a chance for everyone to quickly practice. Beforehand they send you template options so you know what you're creating. They also let you send a custom design which is what I did. This was such a fun new experience! Once you get going it's pretty relaxing. You will need to return in a few days to pick up your finished rug. FYI, you can't see any signage from the street, but it's right next to the ice cream shop. A class was about to start in 15 minutes and there were still a few spots left and I was able to join in. The class size was close to 20-25 people split between two large long tables where you had plenty of room to create. The entire run time for the class was probably about 2 hours. Very chill environment and you are provided the opportunity to create scents until you get the exact smell that you want for your candle. There were two people overseeing the class and they encourage mistakes and do overs. I did notice that people were able to BYOB. I thought that was neat as most people in the class seemed to be celebrating a birthday with a group. We were offered water during the class which I felt was considerate. The space doubles as a retail store and you're able to buy candles from known candle companies and some local companies as well. For the experience, I felt that value was fair. $50 to make and take your candle the same day. We were notified that it takes some time for your candle to set so you can't take it immediately which was fine because they will hold your candle for up to 6 wks for pickup which was gracious! I would go back in a heartbeat. Great experience!

MSSA is owned and operated by Laurie Morgan. When I first stopped by to talk to her, she was very open to what we wanted to do and gave suggestions on what art projects she could do with the kids. I liked her "can do" upbeat attitude from the start. Laurie's birthday parties can go up to 15 children and we ended up with seven (including my son). She charges a mere $10 per child (you pay at least for an eight child minimum). You provide all the food and paper products. She leads the kids through the project/games/etc and does all the cleanup. Considering how much we paid for a party last year at a "bouncy house" place, this was an absolute steal. Our son's theme was Angry Birds. Laurie had the boys paint little birdhouses first, then make little puffball Angry Birds to go in them. I have to give her credit, she was incredibly patient with seven very energetic little boys. After the project/snacks/cake, she rounded them up for balloon games in the hall to work off the sugar high. They loved it, of course. Laurie will be holding summer art camps over the summer and I've already signed my son up for a week. He loved his Angry Birds party and can't wait to go back for camp. She also has art classes for adults and older kids throughout the week, and some Mommy and Me classes for the little ones.
