The line is always long to get in but it moves fast. You are seated and then you go to the counter with your table number to place your order. I got tea and he got a hot chocolate and we shared two layer cakes. One was the Othello Cake which had custard cream, a macaroon bottom, and chocolate icing. This was our favorite. The second cake was the Schwarzwalder. It consisted of a black first gateau, cherry brandy whipped cream, chocolate sponge cake and chocolate butter truffle and cherry jam. It's counter style, where you order at the counter and find seating on your own. I got a vanilla tart and the classic house specialty cake both were delicious and not overly sweet! I would recommend. This place was on several travel food shows I watch and was also highly rated when I was doing research for our trip to Copenhagen. We showed up on a Saturday afternoon and there was a line of about 15 people. It moved very quickly and while we waited, we looked at the showcase on beautiful patisserie. We sat inside and ordered our treats as well as coffee and hot chocolate (both were very good). Both of us got a croissant, I got chocolate which was good and had chocolate inside. My wife got the almond one and while it was good, there was no filling. Next I moved to the Sportskage, which La Glacé is famous for. It was very good, but definitely enough for two people. I really enjoyed it as it was not like any other cake I had had before. My wife got the Konsensus, which was a passion fruit mousse with mango gel over a hazelnut biscuit base topped with a chocolate macaroon. She said this was the clear winner of the day. Best pastries I've ever had in my life! I grew up in Vancouver, BC and my mom worked at a Danish bakery. I grew up eating Kringles my whole life so naturally, I went to Denmark looking for Kringles. My boyfriend and I came here for dessert one night after dinner. This place is a counter service cafe with incredibly efficient service. You order at the front and then they seat you and bring you your order when it's ready. I had the Kringle, a pistachio macaron (my other favorite pastry) and coffee. A few days ago, my sister & I visited Conditori La Glace twice. Their hot chocolate was the one item that made us come back a second time. WOW! It was one of the best hot chocolate we have ever had. It was so damn delicious, and satisfying on a cold day. It was not too sweet, unlike the American versions. Highly recommended! You can not order the chocolate as a take out item, and it must be consumed sitting in. One of the staff told us, they can refill another round of hot chocolate if you finished. We ordered 2 of their signature desserts: 1) sportskage (consists of crushed nougat, whipped cream, a macaroon bottom and caramelized choux pastry), and 2) kartoffelkagen (consists of vanilla cream and a biscuit bottom, and it is encased in marzipan and rolled in cocoa). Best known for their Cakes and Ice Cream, but also offering traditional Breakfast Pastries plus Macarons, it was after a quick summary of the sizable dining area that a seat was taken in a small booth looking straight at the register, an Almond Croissant plus the day's second Danish quickly brought to the table while staff paraded the Cakes out from the kitchen with one in each hand to fill the window and glass cases. Perceivably not updated in years, the Salmon-colored paint, worn carpets and gold trim all creating a cozy yet dated look, first bites of the Croissant showed a flaky Shell with good lamination and virtually no filling, the Almond really only a faint hint amidst all the Butter while the Danish presented the same Dough given less time to rise and filled with Raspberry Jam, a small circle of Icing plus a few Almond slivers. Anticipating that the best was yet to come, tough choices and a couple of questions eventually yielding two Cake slices even though at least a dozen sounded great, those looking for something light and fruity would do well to order the Danmarkskage thanks to the combination of a thin Almond base with Vanilla Mascarpone Cream, sweet Rhubarb Compote and fresh Strawberries while every other first-time guest would be foolish to pass up the signature Sportskage, a lighter-than-you'd-ever-imagine masterpiece with a soft Macaroon base, hand-whipped Cream on top and a center that would be as smooth as silk were it not punctuated with tiny pieces of caramelized and crushed Nougat. read more

SUCH A GOOD BAKERY! My mom and I absolutely love this place. It's located near a university with so many convenient shops and places to eat as well. Having a stroll around the area is really nice in the morning. Also to sit inside or outside the bakery while having a cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate is such a nice way to calmly wake yourself up in the morning for what you're about to do. Their baked goods were so soft and fresh tasting. The vanilla crème filling was such a fresh taste of real vanilla that I've never felt I had back home in other bakeries. La Glace was good. But a bit of a let down. I couldn't leave Copenhagen without trying a kartoffelkage. And I should mention that I really don't like marzipan. Too bad that hartoffelkage is enrobed in a goodly layer of marzipan. But I will not hold that against La Glace - I knew what I was getting in to. So I made the quick trip here from my hotel the last morning of my stay, and ordered a coffee, a kartoffelkage, and a pistachio macaron, just because I love them and I'm a fatty. The kartoffelkage was better than i expected, given the whole marzipan thing. For those who don't know, it's a light layer cake with a cream filling, wrapped in marzipan and then rolled in cocoa. It looks like a browned spud when you're done - hence the name "potato cake." This was probably better marzipan than I have ever had. No fake cherry taste from artifical flavoring, not dried out or objectionably textured. The cake was light and moist, the filling wasn't too thick and heavy, and I liked the cocoa to cut through the sweetness. However, one is enough of these. I want to try some of the other things here, but I needed to do the right thing and try the local item first. The macaron, sorry to say, does not compare to what I love from Belle Epicurean in Seattle. This is not to say that La Glace's are correct and Belle's are wrong, or vice versa, it's to say that I want Belle's before I want La Glace's. Belle has a silky filling and rich, chewy cookies, while La Glace really has neither - the filling was kind of blah, and the cookies were mostly air bubble that crumbled as soon as I bit in. Maybe I had a "bad" one, but I won't be dreaming about these later tonight. Finally, the coffee - tasty, but at ~$10, way way way overpriced, even for Copenhagen. The staff were friendly - note, when you show up early, like 5 minutes after opening, you have the place to yourself and they may not even have all their items set out yet. They had to go get my kartoffelkage from the kitchen. Doesn't bother me either way, but if you don't see what you want, you may want to ask. So I would still come back, but I would take the baked good away and get coffee elsewhere. It may seem a bit pricey, but it is well worth it. In addition, the place looks amazing. It has the atmosphere of an 18th century noble home, with stylish furniture and elegant decor. A tip for visitors: if you just want to take away your sweet, pop in past the queue, ask for a menu and clearly state you don't want to sit down, state your decision and in maximum 5-10 minutes, you will get your treat in a nice to-go package.
