This place has so much promise, but was not worth it for the price to food quality to me. I was excited to try their bibimbap, which caught my attention from their advertising board on the street. Unfortunately, it was the worst bibimbap I've ever had at a restaurant. There were barely any toppings, the ground beef that cost extra to get was cold and hard, and even though the rice came in a heated serving pot, there somehow weren't any crispy parts. Not worth it for $17. The army soup hot pot that we got to share was definitely better in taste and was properly heated up, but at $37 for not very high quality ingredients (ramen, sausage, spam, and gochujang sauce), it was also a disappointment for our wallets. First time at Kong Dog/Kong Pocha and I would give it a soft 3.5. My partner and I only ordered one Kong Dog (corn dog) each so I am only judging off of these. We walked in planning to order take-out and there was a touch-screen kiosk at the entrance to order from. I ordered a chicken sausage Kong Dog with sprinkled Doritos and my partner ordered a 1/2 beef 1/2 mozzarella cheese Kong Dog with ketchup and mustard. The wait was under 10 minutes and the staff was very friendly. Minus a 1.5 stars for the following : - Both Kong Dogs were packaged in the same box with no labels on which was which. I had to bite into one to tell them apart. - The ketchup and mustard my partner ordered were forgotten. - The chicken sausage tasted like classic hot dog meat, which is fine with me but if you are looking for a chicken taste this may not be for you. Side note : The Kong Dogs are coated in sugar which is deliciously sweet & savory. This is not listed in the description when you order (at least on the kiosk and online), which may be helpful if Kong Dog added this note to the menu. The decor here is that of an outside Korean street restaurant but inside. With tarps on the walls and K-pop music videos playing on the TVs, it creates a fun and immersive atmosphere. Their seafood pancake was delicious and had a lot of ingredients in it and they didn't overdo the flower like some other restaurants. The Korean chicken wings are flavorful and crispy, but with only two sauce options, I'd love to see a few more choices. The Korean bento box is both adorable and delicious, served in a cute metal tray with your choice of main dish, radish, kimchi, and egg. Their kimchi was awesome and we kept asking for refills! I'm also a huge fan of their Hot Cheeto and Sweet Chili Dorito corn dogs. They were packed with so much flavor that I don't think I can eat a normal corn dog anymore. For larger groups, the army soup is perfect! They bring it out on a portable gas cooker, and it's packed with spam, ramen, cheese, rice cakes, and so much more. It's hearty and fun to share with friends. Service was decent, they respond when you press the button on the table, but we did have to ask three times for hot water. They had all kinds of crazy options for toppings, but I just went with the basic corn dog no sugar. Thought it was odd I had to specifically check a no sugar option. My order came out pretty quickly, but I was disappointed when I opened up the box and saw that it was covered in sugar. I also was a little miffed when I saw that the honey mustard that I had to pay an extra $.50 for was just a cheap honey mustard packet that a fast food place would give you for free. Pretty expensive for the quality of food, a lot of Korean comfort food that is cheap to produce but they charge quite a lot. The drinks here are also pretty pricy. My favorite was the kong dog, the cheese was super stretchy. Everyone was quite friendly and attentive, however, our rose tteokbokki was first served without any rice cakes in it (???) and we had to send it back to have them added. They also forgot our kong fries which we had to ask for again. But they were pretty apologetic and corrected the errors quite quickly. The chairs can spin open to store your jackets and bags, which was super cool and helped our clothes not smell too much like food when we went. Kong dog aka Kong Pocha. When it first opened, they only had Korean corndogs, which was exciting to have in the neighborhood! It's solid stoner food. Corndogs filling range from meat, 50/50 with mozzarella, or plant-based. I've only had the plant based. The mix of batter and toppings are all good. My favorites are the ramen crusted or potato crusted corn dogs. Now they've expanded to more to food and have a second name -- Kong Pocha. I tried the tofu stew with kimchi & the rose Tteokbokki. Both were kind of mediocre. Portion size was great, but there wasn't much flavor. There was definitely some spice, but I wasn't impressed. Service varies. When I used to come for the corndogs, service was very rude. Now that they have a full on restaurant, service improved SO much. Really great staff who check in, are hospitable, and generally nice. To order or get their attention, each table has a button that will give staff the heads up. Space is great for groups too. They also serve alcohol (soju, cocktails, and more). If you go for the corn dog, you'll spend less than $10 per person. If you go for the restaurant, you'll probably spend $25-$35 per person. read more

Kong Dog Somerville should be shut down. On 7/31/2025 I came in with a friend for lunch. I paid $10 for a sweet potato corn dog and $7.99 for dumplings in a dining room that was filthy -- the floor hadn't been swept, and the straws weren't wrapped. Our waitress, an Asian woman in her 20s, barely served us. She just stared from across the room, which was creepy and unprofessional. I still left a $1.50 tip, which I thought was fair considering how little she actually did. As I was leaving, she told me, "Next time you should use the kiosk, it doesn't require a tip." That is one of the rudest things I've ever heard from someone in customer service. We came back on 9/8/2025 because my friend wanted to try again. The same waitress greeted us with, "Are you sure you want a table?" which immediately set the tone. We spent $55 this time and got instant Neoguri noodles passed off as ramen for $16, with an overboiled egg and fake calamari. She forgot the egg in the first place and then acted annoyed when I asked about it. She also made a strange comment to my friend like, "I'm glad you're in a better mood than last time," which is out of line for any server to say. And, once again, she stood across the room watching us, whispering with the cook -- who I can only assume is her father -- while both of them kept throwing glances our way. I tried to leave a $7 tip this time, and the waitress wouldn't even accept it. The way she refused it felt like a slap in the face, basically saying, "keep your money, you clearly need it." That kind of attitude is disgusting in any business, let alone one that's already cutting corners and serving garbage food in a dirty space. This wasn't just bad service, it was hostile. The food is cheap, the atmosphere is gross, and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel unwelcome. It's no surprise the place was dead. This place was formerly known as Kong Dog. I think it was a good change, as they've shifted from specializing in just Korean corn dogs to now offering more traditional styled Korean street foods. When you enter the building, you're in a small tiny area with a few seats, and what looks like a red tarp blocking you from the main restaurant. While waiting to be seated/noticed (more on this later) I've seen people walk in and leave...thinking this place is under construction! We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. We walked in and waited in that small area for some time. It took a long time for one of the ladies to come out and even notice there are a bunch of people waiting to be seated, or to pick up their take out orders. Despite having a front desk area there, it is not manned. You're at the mercy of whenever they feel like coming out. This was a turnoff as it took a long time to be seated. When peeking into the tent, we could see that only about 6 out of around 12 available tables were occupied. The problem is the place is run by 2 ladies and a helper. Most of their operations are done within, towards the counter in the back of the resturant, with NO visibility of who is waiting up front on the other side of the tent. Maybe they should remove the front tent or make it see-through. The tables are some small round tables with chairs that have lids (for you to put your coat/purse inside). There is a QR code at the table for you to pull up their menu. There is a call button on the table that dings at back desk, but I'm not sure if there is any indicator of which table pressed it. It also did not bring anyone over until they were ready to come (or flagged down). Needless to say, it was a hassle to get seated and pick up customers appeared to be frustrated as well. Service within the tent is also slow. This was not due to lack of effort, but just lack of resources. The 2 ladies were literally running between tables. They were friendly. Sweet Spicy Fried Chicken - It's like chicken nugget pieces that are battered, fried then tossed in spicy sauce. It was very good. Portion size was underwhelming but still okay. Fried Corn and Fries - We initially didn't get any fries...just the corn! I asked and she mentioned something about fluctuating prices (which confused me) but she said she'd bring me some fries. The fried corn is amazing! They're separated kernals from the corn stalk that are well seasoned and fried. Its not crunchy but still had good texture and tasted so good. This is a must try! We ordered the Kong Tteopbokki and it was served in a pan over a tabletop stove. I was surprised to see that the pot was only filled half way...you don't get a lot. This dish is $24.99, which made me so surprised at how small of a portion it was. Its not really shareable unless you add optional items, which we did. We had the Kong Dog $5.99 (batter too thick), Dumplings (comes with 2), Ramen $1.99 (1) and slice cheese $1. This helped the cause and made this dish more shareable and wholesome, but now we're well over $30. I'd skip this next time. It tasted great and the ladies were helpful in helping us prep it, but it wasn't a good value. The decor of this place is very cozy, with the red tarps stretching into the insides of the restaurant too. The bathroom was clean. The open space was comfortable. Their food presentation is really good, as you'll find on their Instagram page. Flavor is spot on. I hope they can get more help to run the place and do something about the main entrance. The name points at the famous Korean hot dogs wrapped in a variety of batters from potato, ramen, to spaghetti. But there is so much more! The restaurant served alcohol, you have flavored korean sojus, rice wines, beers, etc. My favorite go to is the makgeolli, original. This is an off white, slightly sparkling, raw rice wine. It gets served in a tea kettle and bowl size serving cups! Very good! For appetizers, we tried the seafood pancake and the fried gizzards. The seafood pancake is some of the best I have had in Boston. You get huge chunks of fresh seafood and not the tiny frozen seafood that many restaurants serve to cut costs. The fried gizzards came with sweet potatoes fries. The fries were good but I would probably skip the gizzards next time, way too crunchy on the outside and chewy inside. We also ordered the fish cake skewers soup and marinated beef tripe. Both were excellent! The restaurant was a bit chilly so the fish cake soup was perfect. Kids loved it. I must warn you that it can be a bit peppery. The marinated beef tripe is fatty/oily deliciousness. I couldn't stop eating it despite how oily it was. It went great with alcohol. There was so much food I wanted to try so I will definitely be back. The restaurants is popular across ages. During my meal, there were plenty of tables with young adults, families, and even single eaters. Overall, excellent service and food came out at a nice steady pace. Very good for groups as well. We've had some New York, LA and Korea so compared to that I'd say unfortunately it is average to below average in taste. The cheese corn was not what it should be, the kimchi bokkeumbap. (kimchi and pork pilaf) was way too salty and had a bit of an odd flavor. The budae chigae (army stew) was pretty decent as it is harder to mess that up, but in general, most of the dishes were also pretty overpriced for what it should be. Walking into the new "Kong Pocha" was overwhelming, with a dozen bright TV screens playing kpop music videos, loud music, and bright orange tarp everywhere. A lot of things reminded me of Korea - the signs, the tableware/cookware, and the bustling place seemed to be a great spot for a fun gathering out. It also seemed Korean in the sense that service was straightforward, efficient, and not overly hands-on, leaving you to enjoy the night out with friends. The drinks are a bit overpriced - I ordered the Screw Bar soju cocktail, and it was $17 before tax/tip. Restaurants do overcharge for drinks, but it didn't seem to be worth the price given the ingredients in it - frozen strawberries, a popsicle, soju, etc. I would unfortunately not get drinks here again, which is a shame because the concept is supposed to go with drinks (and the food does too). The tteokbokki wasn't really my style - it is a more soupy kind, and the flavors were a bit too subtle. The sides that came with it were slightly disappointing, too much breading and cooled down. The wings were the highlight of the night - the crispy breading seemed almost cornflakes-like in texture, in the best kind of way, and the chicken meat was juicy, tender, flavorful. We got sweet potato fries and kong fries and the former was a classic, fried well, the latter was a creative take on loaded fries that wasn't everyone's cup of tea but was interesting and addictive to others. The bulgogi tteokboki is amazing!!! There is a lot of meat and it fills you up. I found the broth a bit too sweet but it comes with mini cheese corn dogs and fried dumplings which helps cutting down the sweetness. The second time we came was on a weekend night and it was much busier. We ordered rosé tteokboki. The taste was great but the quantity was lacking. There were barely any rice cakes and it was mostly cabbage and carrots. Our server forgot to bring the corn dog and dumplings that come with it so we had to remind them. Both times we had to wait a few mins by the door to get a server (even when the place had no customers). A server hit my back with their knee while I was sitting down which they apologized for and luckily was not painful. The staff seems new so the service seems a bit clumsy but they are very nice. Kong Pocha is a new Korean snack food restaurant in the original Kong Dog restaurant space. The restaurant looks very different from before -- they definitely tried to bring the Korean pojangmacha experience with the red tarp, signs, metal tables, and cylindrical chairs. I heard that they opened on January 15, so they seem to still be figuring out some things -- when we came in around 12:50pm, half of the tables were empty but many people were waiting to be seated. I think they were understaffed. We ended up waiting ~30 minutes to get seated, with 2 parties ahead of us. The staff are really nice and helpful, they were just overwhelmed by demand. It's nice that they have a call button on the table -- it's an efficient way to get service. We used it not only to order but to correct some of our orders. We tried a couple of classic Korean street food items. Kimchi jjigae ($16) - It came without tofu or green onions, so we asked and got tofu and green onions added. Overall I really liked the flavor of the soup -- tasty savory kimchi pork flavors, and the pork and kimchi were tasty. The tofu didn't really have the flavor of the soup in it, probably because it was added late. For the price, the amount of food inside the soup was pretty lacking -- at that price, it should be a full meal, so I would want more tofu, kimchi, and pork. Fish cake soup ($16) - doesn't look like much but tastes great. The fish cakes do taste like they have a bit more flour/starch than i would like (diluting the fish), but the soup has great flavor. Again, pretty overpriced -- I would want at least 2 skewers of fish cake for that price. Ddukbokki ($25) - It's a very pretty dish. The fried dumplings and seaweed rolls that come with it are good, as are the noodles. The sauce is tasty but a little too salty, and the fish cakes ended up being really salty after absorbing the sauce. I liked the rice cakes, but I wish there were more. Given the amount of sauce, and the price, I would expect and want more rice cakes. The haemul pajeon (seafood pancake, $23) was pretty good. I did find a shrimp shell/tail in it. I thought the texture was solid. But again, it's really expensive, even for a seafood pancake, and I don't think it has enough seafood to justify the price. I would pay $15-18 for it. We didn't receive the chicken wings ($19) in time, but took them to-go and tried one piece each. These were quite good -- hot, fresh, and crispy. Comparable in texture to bbq chicken. I'm not sure what sauce they ended up giving us, but it was quite sweet, but at least they give it on the side! Overall I think the flavors at Kong Pocha are great! I really enjoyed the flavors of the kimchi jjigae and fish cake soup, and the fry on the chicken wings was great. I just wish there was more food for the price. I know I shouldn't compare it to Korea, but seeing $16-$25 price tags on snack foods that are at most $10 in Korea gives me sticker shock. This is basically the only Korean restaurant on this side of Cambridge, so it's definitely nice to have! I can see myself coming here for comfort food in the future. They also seem to have some really fun cocktails that I'd like to try sometime. read more

Right when you go in there is a self serve kiosk that you can order your food without talking to anybody. Super easy to use and I definitely recommend using it over ordering in person. After I ordered on the kiosk it took about 5 minutes to get my order, the potato half cheese/dog and the hot cheetos half cheese/dog. These live up to the expectations of a korean corn dog and it is a nice simple snack. The hot cheetos corn dog didn't really taste anything like hot cheetos though. Kind of tasted like nothing. Definitely recommend a side of spicy mayo or ketchu/mustard sauce. My whole experience had very little staff interaction so I felt like this is definitely a place to stop by for a quick snack and get in and out quickly. Not bad! I went for the hype and those awesome cheese pulls. I quickly learned that this is a typical "stunt food" restaurant. The music was great and it is super spacious. There are a ton of screens showing tiktoks of people eating the dogs. They have a self order kiosk right when you walk in if you just want to order the food and go. Customer service was good for a place that just opened. After you order your food they give you a number that they will call once your food is ready. I got the potato dog with half mozzarella and half beef, split the kong fries, and got a lemonade (free if you post a pic on social media). The potato dog wasn't bad, but would've been so much better if I just got 100% mozzarella. The fries were OK. The difference between the reg fries vs the kong fries were hot Cheetos sprinkled on it. Not great. The lemonade was super sweet and tasted a bit weird. I'd ago again after drinks with friends or if I want something quick, but not sure how often. Definitely visit it this place is on your list. Parking is sparse since it's in Davis Sq but the train is very close by. read more

We had a great time at Kong Pocha the other weekend! We came at around 6pm a Saturday night and were seated in less than 15 minutes (to my utter surprise, given that I've been seeing this all over my instagram!). We sat at a little table with stools (pro tip, the stools open up and you can store your stuff in them!) in one of the little tented off areas. The vibes are a bit chaotic and fun, maybe just because of the bright orange tarps covering everything, but it's also nice to have a private-feeling space even though there's nothing private about it. In case anyone else is, like my husband was, very confused from the instagram posts-- this is, in fact, indoors. It's just kind of made to feel like you are at a street market! The three of us shared a big kettle of makgeolli, which I had never had before but tasted like a slightly effervescent unfiltered cold sake. We ate some seaweed salad, spam rice balls, the rose tteokbokki, and the pork cutlet. Plus a sweet chili Doritos Kong dog. We had ordered the noodle omelet but they just ran out. Everything was delicious!! It was honestly too much food for the three of us but boy did we try to finish. I convinced us to order items that were different from what we normally get when we eat Korean, but looking at everyone else's plates come out, I definitely want to come back and try the rest of the menu as well! Really cool makeover from when they first open. It's just a Korean hot dog place. Really great food, the atmosphere is pretty hip. We ordered the Korean fried Chicken and we really need a good Korean fried chicken place. Order. The KP spicy and sweet and it did not disappoint. The wings were plump, juicy, and rather big. The coleslaw is pretty good too. The other places I've been the coleslaw isn't all that great. We also ordered the soon dubu with pork, and the burgogi dish. Both come with rice. Most places it's really sweet. This was perfect. I am so happy this place is here. Nothing fancy, sometimes. You just want some good home style food. The kind my mama used to make. And our server was super attentive. So awesome to have a Korean place around the neighborhood. I also don't know what that reviewer is talking about, the one that gave this place one star.
