We went in and were self seated and the waitress came over and introduced herself and gave us a menu. we were instructed to go the counter and order and pay in advance. It is a little different incase there is a problem? Fortunately we didn't have any issues. We both order a cup of gumbo and it was very flavorful and a cup was the size of a bowl. I had the catfish and potato salad and it was delicious. My wife had the red beans and rice and she loved it. We both had a lemonade and ice tea which are served in plastic sealed bottles. We visited Babin's Seafood House in Katy today as an alternative since Landry's Seafood House in Katy has closed, and unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing experiences we've had. We arrived around 3 PM on a Friday expecting to take advantage of the lunch menu and happy hour, which is normally offered at that time. However, we were told by the hostess that neither was available. What was frustrating was not just the policy itself, but the lack of clear explanation -- it was only vaguely mentioned that it was due to a holiday, with no real effort to clarify or accommodate. Service throughout the meal was very poor. Our waters were never refilled, and our server was largely inattentive. It felt like we were being overlooked rather than taken care of. The biggest issue came with the food. We specifically ordered seafood dishes due to the Lent season-- specifically it being Good Friday, only to find sausage included in the seafood jambalaya. When we brought this up, the response from the server --" i'm absolutely sure there's no sausage in your dish" and made it seem like we were the problem, rather than addressing the mistake. Nonetheless, the was sausage in the dish and a manager did come by and offered to replace the dish, but even that felt reluctant -- more like an inconvenience than an attempt to make things right. To make matters worse, what was supposed to be a casual lunch turned into an $96 bill for a family of four, without the quality of service or experience to justify it. This was especially disappointing because we've been coming here as a family for years and have generally had good experiences. As a Landry's Select Club member for over 10 years, this was easily one of the worst experiences we've had at any Landry's restaurant. Unfortunately, based on this visit, we do not see ourselves returning to this location anytime soon.

Even at that time, it was mostly full, but we were able to snag seats at the bar, which is first come first serve. We ordered the "regular" grilled oysters (5/5), which were anything but regular, as they were topped with peanuts and a really great flavor. I'd get these again. Fair warning, these take 20 minutes to come out, which I didn't mind, but I did not realize that they would not bring us anything else until after the oysters since these are considered an app. I thought they'd just bring things out as they were ready. This meant, we did not get our crawfish until we were already sitting there for an hour. About halfway into the wait for the crawfish (after the oysters), the fried rice (1/5) showed up, and I have to say, it was underwhelming. It came out room temperature, which to me is cold, and I thought this was just how they do it. Except 15 minutes later, the seats next to us got their fried rice, and it came out piping hot. You could still see the steam coming off of it. Besides being cold, I didn't think the fried rice was that good in terms of flavor. I also generally prefer the short grain rice, and this was more of a long grain. Once the crawfish showed up, we were well past an hour, so we dove right into it. Both the garlic butter and combo mix were great flavor - some of the best I've had in Houston. However.... it made me remember why we did not return. About 20% of the crawfish were TINY. And by tiny, I mean they were smaller than my pinky finger. Maybe I'm a crawfish snob, but at this time of the season, there should not be that many tiny crawfish. Maybe a few small ones, but not tiny. Crawfish flavor = 5+/5, crawfish quality = 2/5, crawfish cook = 3/5. Then I made the mistake of ordering a cluster of snow crab. That took another 30+ min to come out, and it was again room temperature. The service at the bar was fine (4/5), but the kitchen service (1/5) is not something I want to experience again, especially not for the crawfish quality/size. Yes, the flavor was amazing, but I'm not fighting for a table for lukewarm food and 30 min wait time for each dish. The pricing was some of the lowest I've seen ($8.99/lb crawfish), but I'd rather pay $1 more at other places for the quality.
