Tries to bargain with you for everything. It's obvious they are ALL on commission. And couldn't understand him

Dr. Kosta gets a star for having a good staff and another for the time he spends cleaning, or in my case disrupting, teeth. I'm retired and have had dozens of teeth cleanings. He was by far, the most forceful cleaner who ever worked on my teeth. He spent a lot of time on the left side of my mouth where I "had" 2 gold crowns. These gold crowns were there for over 20 years without any problems. The next day, after the cleaning, one of the crowns fell off. A few months later, the other gold crown fell off. I paid him well for replacing the first, but did not go back for the second. He told me the old crown needed to be sent in to the laboratory for them to make a replacement. I never got the old crown back. So, I now refer to him as "Gold Digger Kosta." read more

6 month ago for the first time I went to him for basic cleaning but after 30 min. He sold me a deep cleaning and fixing one faulty teeth even though X-Ray didn't show anything is wrong with my teeth but I trusted him, last week his office called to schedule me for 6 month check up and cleaning and she quoted me $60 which I told her just need basic cleaning and I will call you for the date couple days after when I called to set a appointment she change the price to &100 at that time I decided talking to the Dr. and let him know what is going on in his office but unfortunately he never called me and never received any call from his office it shows his character and how much he care about his patient. Part of me would like to rate with only one star, just so you browsers of the stars, will be deterred, so my family can keep Dr. Kosta all to ourselves...but.... 5 stars it is, he deserves more really - more like 10+! Chances are you 're here on yelp reviewing reviews because you are searching for a new dentist or you may be thinking "could there be a better dentist than mine in Simi Valley?". Ask yourself, "Do I thoroughly enjoy my visits with my dentist, is the staff helpful, knowledgeable, fun yet professional. When I walk in for my appt. do I wait 1/2 hour to see my dentist or am I greeted with a smile and seen w/in 10min. or less of coming in? Do I feel like my dental heath really matters to them? Do I leave feeling like my questions were answered - honestly? OK now answer yourself if it isn't a resounding YES!, then it's time to look for a new dentist... Dr. Kosta that is! Whoever thought going to the dentist would be enjoyable...it is with Dr. Kosta! My son was running into the office looking to have his first (mind you) filling done, he didn't even want me to go in with him. He had only met the Dr., and his ever so helpful staff, once! Dr. Kosta is a really nice doctor. I recommend him to everyone! He found something in my mouth another dentist missed completely! I was in and out of his office really fast and he treated me with a painless procedure. If you had bad dentists go to Dr. Kosta! Everybody is really friendly and helpful in the office. These reviews helped me to pick him. You won't be sorry. Moorpark Smiles however missed the tooth that caused me problems.. so I would use caution going to MP Smiles. I love Dr. Kostas. He and his staff are very friendly and they make a point to make you feel comfortable and explain every part of any procedure. Dr. Kostas makes sure that you feel as little or no pain as possible and is constantly asking if you are OK. I had some cavities and when he did my fillings I literally felt no pain from start to finish including the Novocaine injection, as he numbs your gums first before the injection instead of jabbing you first like some dentists. My wife HATES going to the dentist and is very sensitive and after going to him she said he was great, which is saying a lot. I also like how they send you text messages to remind you of your appointment, which is really helpful. Also today I was 15 minutes late because I got caught up with work stuff and they were totally accommodating and friendly about it. Good dentists are hard to find. Despite all of the rave reviews, beware of this dentist. I have been to him two times for cleanings. First time was fine, second time took 1.5 hours!!! During each of the two visits, I asked him about my receding gum lines and he said I should not see a periodontist but rather let him take care of it. This would entail him putting fillings on the sides of my teeth and coming in for cleanings every four months. On top of that, each time I went I was BOMBARDED with Proposed Treatment Plans for a few molars that showed signs of distress. First proposal was for $4,100 (patient portion $1763.00); second proposal was for $12,158 (patient portion $5141). Just felt like I was there for him to see how he could make money off of me!! Oh, and on top of that, he suggested I get root canals as well since it will PROBABLY be a problem "sometime". He suggested I go through a 4-step process to have the crown and root work done over the course of one month. I have since found another dentist who will do two crowns in one sitting over the course of 3 hours. Which one would you choose?? BEWARE!! read more

Stay away! Although he is pleasant and friendly, the work done was poor quality. It's not even the foreign training that bothered me. I've been to a dentist trained in Egypt that did better work and also was kind and caring. After I had some cavity taken care of I immediately told him I had a problem with one of the fillings, but he didn't want to fix it. Other dentists that have seen that tooth say yes there's no way you can keep that clean the way the work was done. So now just a few short years later I have to get major work done. Both teeth he worked on developed cavities, which is so unfortunate. And also the way the billing worked was, as someone else wrote, felt like being gauged. They print out a proposed treatment plan. Kinda reminded me of the car dealership that used to work on my car, gave a long list of several pages of items they wanted. Insane! It's the only dentist I've ever gone to that refused to email out my X-rays without a fee. It's so petty, after all that money paid, then wants to charge for sending out the films. All other offices do this for free, never been asked to pay for that. No way I was going to pay them extra, so just decided, hell I don't need them that badly. Well, he may be fine for some basic stuff, cleaning whitening etc and he's pleasant so I'll give 2 stars, otherwise would be one star, I actually liked him as a person, so therefore don't want to be too cruel. But just didn't suit my needs. Perhaps will suit someone else. Fortunately found a good more high tech general dentist in TO, an excellent Endodontist in WLV and Periodontist. As an update, ....I clearly said "in person" to you at a f/u visit that the tooth you worked on was poorly done, this was ignored and not redone. Other dentists always ask how the work they did feels and if there are any problems. But not you, at least not for that tooth! Then with time that particular tooth got deep cavity and had to get a crown. A couple of other dentists that saw that tooth said there's no way that can be kept clean. So no surprise, just wished I had gotten it corrected more promptly. I don't mind paying high prices for good work. And your prices have NOTHING to do with insurance, as I was a cash patient. The nice clean office does not make up for poor workmanship! Also why charge a patient to have their X-rays transferred/emailed? No other dentist I've been to does this. That is so petty. I didn't even bother getting the X-rays, after I was told there was a charge. It was off putting. I just decided not to come back at all and take my business elsewhere. read more

I absolutely love Dr. Kosta and his staff! When you hear "you need a root canal" you definitely shudder a bit. But I could not be happier with my results. A root canal takes a few appointments, plus I needed a full crown, so I was there for a few appts spread out over a few weeks time. After each appointment, I left with ZERO, that's right ZERO pain or discomfort. How is this possible?!! This man is amazing at what he does. I got my crown put in yesterday and it feels perfect. The fit is superb. On top of everything, I had to bring my 10 month old with me yesterday because I couldn't get a sitter this time. The girls at the front watched him for me happily! At the end of the appointment, Dr. Kosta even said thank you for bringing him because the girls enjoyed him so much. What dentist thanks you for bringing your baby with you??? Dr. Kosta!! This man is an artist - I have waited years to find someone who I could trust with my front teeth. I had a bridge from the '80's that needed to be replaced and I made him work on my other teeth (crowns, fillings, root canals) before I even considered letting him replace them. When I smile, you see everything, so it was very important to me to find someone who loves what he does. I recommend Dr Kosta and his staff to anyone and everyone who will listen. Dr kosta is just Amazing. Caring, patient and besides being a fantastic dentist a great man! My dad had not been to dentist in over 15 years and needed alot of Work and new bridge and new top denture made. He was fearful and nervous because of many horrible experiences in the past. I talked him into going to see Dr. Kosta the day after he had to walk out of another simi valley dentist. From the first appointment my dad was so pleased! He listened to my dad took many Apts and time and patients to achieve what my dad wanted! The end results were just absolutely amazing. The staff was caring and helpful every step of the way! Dr. Kosta broke a file inside my tooth and was unable to remove it. At his convenience (not mine), I had to wait for almost a month until one of his colleagues could come to his office to try to remove the file. The wait was useless because the file could not be removed. Several months later, the crown that he and his colleague put on my tooth came off entirely, and it had to be reattached by another dentist. I don't recommend Dr. Kosta to anybody. read more

Dr. Kosta and his entire staff were fantastic. I felt comfortable and confident in his skills. I've had the same dentist for a decade in another state (who I love) but when I woke up with severe tooth pain while out of state without dental insurance I was concerned about my options. They were wonderful and fit me in that day due to a cancellation. I was given a new patient special that included a consultation and X-rays, which was essential because it turns out I did have a cavity. And they took care of it on the spot and worked with me on billing as a cash patient, and applied my new patient fee toward the cost of he filling. Everyone from the front office staff to the technician to the hygienist were knowledgeable and kind. And the place was super clean and bright. I would highly recommend this dentist office and plan to go back if I'm ever in Simi again. read more

I'm a patient there and I have been a few times and the vibe was beyond terrible. Everyone always looks stressed out and the poor girls look overworked. The staff seem unhappy. The office had a strange smell. There was another girl there by the name of Candice. She is really rude and pushy and I DO NOT like her vibe. She pushed me into doing a procedure that I financially couldn't afford and that made me really uncomfortable. The worst dentist ever. I will never go back again. read more

Many people are looking for a good dentist... So was I, until I found Dr. Kosta almost three years ago. I came to him after my previous dentist refused to make a deep filling on my molar tooth, and wanted me to agree on the crown... Long story short, I still have that filling that Dr. Kosta did three years ago for me! I like the way he works with the patients, explaining everything thoroughly, very respectfully accepting your decision about the treatment you choose. At the same time he is honest and points out the problem without "playing games" with the patient. For example, during my last year cleaning appointment, he said that I am not flossing good enough, because I started to get more black spots between my teeth... He could've just try to sell me "the new treatment" or just keep filling the holes and get more money... He didn't, he is a professional and he cares! He is always available to answer the patients' questions or concerns. His staff is always helpful, answer the phone or return calls within minutes, and they always make me feel good when I come in their office... :) Somehow, they manage to have openings at the convenient times! The office is great, with a beautiful view from all the windows... I recommend my dentist, Dr. Kosta, to everybody! read more
