Chive Dumpling - right. Sorrel / hibiscus drink.

My out-of-town guests & I just loved this place. The service is great and always so friendly... If you're someone like me who prefers cuisine authenticity over flashy or fancy ambience & unique presentation, you should trust the great reviews and longevity of this business. I almost always prefer a place that prides itself first and foremost on good quality cuisine, especially when it's at a very fair price with generous portions. Dishes: *Don't miss the mango sticky rice dessert with blue rice! *Of the three appetizers we tried the table favorite was the Chive Dumplings Even though I've been to more Thai places than I can recall, I believe this was the first time I tried this, but it won't be the last. * I couldn't decide between two of the specials so they added the Catfish Gone Wild sauce to the Crispy Duck Basil. It was a good call. It might have been sacrilege to the traditional dish, but I believe our server suggested it, and it was so delicious. I really enjoy how the rich flavor of duck stands up to strong spices.

Our "to-go" order.

Did take out from this location. It was conveniently across the street from a hotel a friend in town and today's meeting was staying. She wanted Thai. Staff were exceptional. Really, nice. For a Thursday night, it was pretty full of customers. Ambiance was nice; on trend. The food... my friend ordered the Pad Thai Tom. I ordered the Roasted Duck Curry. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal. Mine was good, it's just the duck was way, way, way over cooked. It was apparently sitting in the continuously cooking/heated Curry sauce. At that price point, the duck can be cooked to order, if the customer shares the temperature of the duck they want. Duck takes less than 25 minutes to cook. Over all... good. I would patronize again.

This place is situated where Thai Derm and the once Thai Pepper Kitchen used to be. It's changed hands a couple of times but overall a solid Thai spot. Also, this place and the Lamoon Thai around the corner has the best lunch specials. The new place is more modern but has all the traditional Thai offerings on their menu and a few great chef specialties that rotate often on the menu. They also have all the popular Thai drinks including Thai iced tea & coffee here as well. My favorite here is the Crispy Duck Basil and Pad Thai with beef, although I normally get it with shrimp. Both dishes are solid and you can't go wrong with these standard staples here. This time around I went with the Crispy Duck Basil and a Beef Larb Salad (Num Tok). Both dishes were great with the Beef Larb Salad being the star. This dish was comprised of marinated grilled beef, sliced and tossed with red onions, scallions, and cilantro over a salad of greens in a spicy lime dressing and pepper crusted sauce over the grilled marinated beef. It was very spicy (note: you've been warned lol.), tasty and had a spicy lime dressing that was insatiable. I literally drank the leftover dressing from the plate because it was just that good! lol. Honorable Mention: The magi and sticky rice on another person's plate looked good as well and I must try on my next visit. In all, a great experience and thumbs up on the food. There are a lot of Thai restaurants around the Silver Spring downtown area but this one and another favorite, which I will not mention here gets my vote as top contenders amongst them all. Stop by for yourself and give them a try. I think you like it! :-)

Seriously so happy to have been introduced to Kooks Kai Thai Noodles. I learned of this amazing local mom/pop vibe of a restaurant from a Yelp Elite event and I've now been back on my own several times. Shout out to the employees who are always sweet, friendly, happy to answer questions, and timely with serving food. I have enjoyed every item that I've ordered here. In my recent visits I've had: Bangkok wings - I'm a bit of a wing snob and can confirm these wings hit the mark! Would def order again. Red Curry - yummy as to be expected Tom Yum Soup - fresh, warm, and good for the heart Mango sticky rice (I dream of this delectable dessert often. And it has a fun purple butterfly pea color! Treat yourself!) Tom Yum Ramen ( a fun thai twist on ramen - very fresh tasting)

Crab Wontons (can also get without cream cheese)
Zack B.

Another really strong 4.5 stars here and I easily see this place being 5 stars and one of our favorite Thai places. IT was a lovely dinner. Strongly recommend. Everything was fresh, delicious and wonderful. The curry puffs came out toasty, crispy and fresh and were very flavorful. They were some of the best we've had, just give them a few minutes to cool down. The Crab Wontons were lovely and I'm very intrigued by the "no cream cheese" option. The duck curry got rave reviews and was amazing for leftovers. The Thai Ginger was fresh and great as well, I just wanted a little more bite from the ginger. But that's a minor nitpick. Service was super attentive and personable. Ambiance: The outdoor seating was super cute. The inside was a little on the warm side temperature wise, but we adjusted quickly and they had multiple fans going, none of which were too loud to drown anything out.

Did not honor deal

This place has a buy one get one free deal on DoorDash. They did not honor it and gave me a handwritten note that the deal is over. If that's the case, maybe you should remove the deal online rather than screwing over your customers. Extremely poor customer service.

Crispy Duck Basil

After a recommendation from someone I recently met, I ordered from Kook Kai's tonight. After scouring reviews because I've never had Thai before, I decided on the Crispy Duck Basil and it was absolutely DELICIOUS and I'm so glad I took a chance. The flavors were amazing and I almost enjoyed the crispy green beans more than the duck. Order it immediately...you won't regret it!

The mango sticky rice is amazing and gorgeous.

Best Thai in Silver Spring. Quiet setting, many wonderful food options. Dishes are flavorful, plentiful, and beautifully presented. Lots of good vegan and gluten free dishes. Mango sticky rice is blue, warm, and best we've had anywhere.

Good food. Great service. Glad I gave them a try. In recent months I've been disappointed with my thai meals from other restaurants. I got my usual, drunken noodles with chicken extra spicy and it was tasty and filling. More importantly, it was the right level of spiciness for me! I called it in ahead of time and 20 minutes later it was ready. My only "issue" with this place and it's no fault of their own, is the parking. They're doing road work on Bonifant. I ended up parking on Georgia and walking down. Might be easier to park on Fenton!

You can adjust the heat (we chose medium) and the portions are generous. Keep in mind that Thai food can be extremely spicy, so choose wisely :D I can't get over how exceptional everything tasted. I remember it being good but not like this. The chicken tasted CLEAN (this requires a full-blown conversation to explain) and had the perfect bite. If you're ordering takeout then make sure to mix the noodles before eating. The samosas were PERFECT. Is it pricier than other places? Yes. Does the taste match the price? Also yes. Keep in mind that sometimes it's because of the ingredient quality and where it comes from. Some are simply more expensive than others. My attitude towards Thai food is a bit of a love/hate situation, but Amina just might put me back on the love wagon. Some places have this overwhelming fishy taste in everything, which I truly hate. It's probably harder and bigger groups but if you're just coming in two or four or even six, it should be pretty manageable. My favorite here is the pad Thai. I get extra lime and the spicy tray. And it's one of the best pad Thais I've had. The drunken noodles was OK and the green curry was OK for me. Not bad but also not what I'd be returning for (I'm coming back for pad thai!) my husband loved the green curry though. It's the kind of place where you find yourself taking slower bites just to savor everything. And I have to mention the lychee martini--easily one of the best I've had. It's the kind of drink you order "just to try" and then end up thinking about days later. If I could get it in a gallon jug, I would. The panang curry is another star--it's creamy, rich, and Thai spicy. And by "Thai spicy," I mean it doesn't mess around. This isn't "mild with a kick." This is "call the fire department, but also keep eating because it's amazing." The roti canai is flaky, buttery, and comes with a dipping sauce that makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about bread. I'd absolutely go back to Khao Thai in a heartbeat--partly to work my way through the rest of the menu, and partly because I think my subconscious is already planning another mango sticky rice dream sequence.
