    4 dishes we'll never forget.

Let's start with the food, we order 2 appetizers, and 4 dishes. All of the dishes were perfectly done super hot and so so good. We called out ordering, and we're told that it would be 20/25 minutes. It was ready when we arrived. I'll be back very soon!

Menu they have is old. So expect a dollar or two extra for each item. Wonton soup is really really good. And it's just $3. The soft shell crab dinner is a huge portion. It's served on a bed of crispy noodles and sautéed onions which is tasty. Came with brown rice. However, it is heavily breaded. The restaurant doesn't have dine in service as of today. Strictly for take out. Better to order over phone in advance and it ll be a quick pick up. I went for dinner. Parking was easy

Food is alright for chinese food. Tasty and portions were about the right size as well. Definitely get a lunch combo if you can since it's about $10

General Tso's Lunch Special w/ fried rice

This was an average Chinese food restaurant experience in Silver Spring. I ordered their General Tso's Chicken lunch special that includes your entree, choice of white rice or fried rice and a side of egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, wonton soup (all soups come with an additional charge) or one spring roll all for about $10...or at least I thought. As another yelper mentioned, there is a discrepancy with pricing and there is a sign behind the register that says menu items are $1 more. After looking at my bank account, I was charged $11.54 despite my online order coming to a total of $10.55 including tax. Had I not picked up, I wouldn't have been aware of the price increase or that I was actually being charged more than what was originally stated. That seems a little dishonest to me. Just update the menu prices! This was my first time ordering Chinese food near DTSS but I think I'll keep looking for my regular go-to. The food wasn't bad by any means but it also wasn't great either. The fried rice was probably the best item and was better than other fried rices I've had but the General Tso's Chicken wasn't spicy or flavorful despite my choosing the spicy option. I was expecting better given other positives reviews.

Food was great, order was ready super quick and the price was reasonable, chicken was hot and sushi was cold. Crab Rangoon is too notch!

Bored of eating in so decided to try out Spring Garden. They had one of the better ratings when searching for Chinese food spots so decided to try them out. Really enjoyed that they had a wide menu selection. For COVID they're currently only doing take out. They've basically turned their doorway into a take out window which is nice to know no other customers are inside. They have parking spots marked as well. Overall thought the entree dishes were pretty good. I had the sesame chicken, delicious flavor and a good crunchy texture. My partner had the lo mein and said it was really good, they liked the thicker noodles. I wasn't a huge fan of the vegetarian dumplings. Maybe the meat ones are better? Will definitely be back for the sesame chicken though!!

This place is awful! After waiting over 20 minutes for one of the four dirty tables to be cleaned we were finally seated. Apps were terrible! (See pictures). One of the three entrees that we ordered was delivered 20 minutes before the other two to the wrong table. Several minutes later, the waitress realized her error and promptly removed it from the wrong table and re-served it to us. (Gross!!!). The entrees taste like shopping mall Chinese food, except that ours were served at room temperature. Stay away!

Total (not including tip) came out to approximately $49. What's Hot - Menu. Excellent. It's also written in Chinese in addition to English. For those of us familiar with traditional ethnic Chinese food, a menu written in Chinese is a good sign. They have traditional Taiwanese and Chinese food like scallion pancakes, sesame balls, beef noodle soup, soup dumplings, etc... Very good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, possibly with the exception of vegan dishes.. - Quality. Pretty good. Their scallion pancake was soft, not too oily, and not too salty. I prefer the scallion pancake to have been a bit more thick and flaky, but that's my personal preference. To be fair, still delicious. Their chive and pork dumplings definitely had a delicious chive flavor. Substantial and the wrapper was not too thick. Their spicy sesame paste tofu had a good flavor and substantive. The chili oil wontons were not too spicy and had a good flavor. Again, my personal preference would have been for the dumplings to have been more substantive, but still pretty decent. - Service. Pretty good. It appears most, if not all their staffers, speak Chinese (Mandarin), which was also helpful, because I specifically ordered in Chinese. I asked them about the spice level, because I wanted to ensure it would not be too spicy for my friend. - Price. Pretty good value for menu and portions. - Location. It's pretty easy to find. Also within convenient walking distance to the Silver Spring metro. The inside space is pretty good. Tables can seat a minimum of 2, all the way up to 8. What's Not - Quality. The sesame balls are smaller than I expected. They're the rough approximation of a ping pong ball, maybe smaller. I was disappointed, because I like sesame balls that are substantial. - Service. I specifically asked for soup spoons, because we were eating dumplings. Instead, they gave me regular spoons. Not all the dishes come out in the order you hope. For example, main dishes may come out before the appetizers. This is going to be dependent on your personal preference. - Parking. There is parking near the restaurant, but it's going to be dependent on the day and time. Final Answer Worth coming back.

I also feel like it's rare to be able to out these days and get a $12 entree where you feel like you had a good meal. Their wings, yibin spicy noodles, soup dumplings, beef noodle soup and scallion pancakes are good. There's easy parking in the garage across the street. You can also order online ahead and pick it up. Super easy. Just go directly to their website. I feel like they do takeout pretty well.

Nothing has stood out as great, but the fried rice, the orange chicken, the dumplings and several of their soups have been good enough for me to order from them again. Solid Chinese takeout and carry out food in the downtown Silver Spring area!…read more Did takeout from this restaurant the other for a late lunch and glad I did. The food was prepared fresh and delicious. I ordered a General Tso's Lunch Special and a Sweet n' Sour Soup. All were prepared perfect and tasted excellent. Food was ordered and ready right on time; roughly 10 minutes from the time I walked in and placed the order. Not sure with what the food would look like as this was my first time coming here, I was in for a pleasant surprise. The General Tso's Chicken was still piping hot even after driving back home for about 15 minutes. And, most of all not soggy or mushy!.... something I can't stand when ordering takeout!! The plate and servings were hefty and quite generous. The chicken was a mixed between white and dark meat. It was seasoned just right and so crispy, even after sitting in the container for my drive back home. The General Tso sauce was very tasty as well. My only gripe is that the dish comes with fried rice and I am not sure with what's up with most of the carryouts around the DMV, but a lot of them served this yellow - orangish fried rice that is not the most appealing to me, but I must honestly admit....it was dang good. Lol. I prefer a more wok-charred, brown fried rice over the neon fried rice served here and other places around the DMV. The Hot n' Sour soup gets a thumbs-up and good marks from my end. It was tangy, spicy, and sweet all roll into one. A delicious bowl of tofu, mushrooms, tamarind, and spices that aim to please. In all, Mandarin Restaurant is a solid option when in the Downtown Silver Spring Area and you are looking for something good to eat. The owner was very pleasant and he greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. His wife was very friendly as well and made sure I had all the proper fixings I needed to complete my dish; including my request for extra soy sauce and hot chili oil which complimented and elevated both dishes very well. If it wasn't for the neon orange looking fried rice, I probably would've given this place five stars as a first impression. Also, they could've served more broccoli in the dish than the two pieces that I received Lol -- see pic as receipts. The restaurant itself has limited seating but it appeared to be a popular takeout service with most that came in and patroned the place. A decent winner in my book and will definitely be back to try out other dishes.
