Nine of us wandered in here as our 4th choice. All of us were delighted and looking for an excuse to return. None of us were from this area, and we intended to go to the Mayflower Chinese Restaurant, based on Yelp reviews. However, once we walked in the door, it was apparent this place was focused on carryout, and there was no way we were staying to eat in their dingy entrance area. We walked next door to the Meleket Ethiopian restaurant. However, the place was deserted, and we didn't stay there either. We tried the Lime & Cilantro, the next place down, but it was packed and couldn't handle our group. So, we skipped past the verernary clinic and went to Spring Garden. And, what a great choice that was. They offer a huge menu of Chinese, Thai, and Japanese meals. Everything is reasonably priced. Once we got our food, we were impressed with the quality and portion sizes. And, through it all, the service was prompt and friendly. I ordered Hot and Sour soup (my bellwether for Chinese restaurants) and beef chow fun. The soup was flavorful without being overpowering, and the chow fun was delicious too. I liked everything so much that I ordered another soup and Thai Basil with Chicken to go, and that's been my lunch for the past couple of days. Don't be put off by the seediness of its location. Spring Garden is a great place to grab some tasty, reasonably priced food, either to eat in or take away. read more

I'll be brief, because I thought I already left a Yelp review for Spring Garden(?). I've been going to Spring Garden a very long time, I'd guess about 20 years, though I can't find confirmation they've been in business that long. Obviously, I really like the food! My favorite dish there is chicken and string bean, though oddly I just checked the menu and that dish is not on it. So, if you are craving something that is not on the menu, ask if they'd be willing to make it for you. The people there have always been very friendly to me, even throughout the pandemic, when people were hesitant to socially interact. I'm hoping Spring Garden stays around as long as I can still chew solid food. :) read more

This was an average Chinese food restaurant experience in Silver Spring. I ordered their General Tso's Chicken lunch special that includes your entree, choice of white rice or fried rice and a side of egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, wonton soup (all soups come with an additional charge) or one spring roll all for about $10...or at least I thought. As another yelper mentioned, there is a discrepancy with pricing and there is a sign behind the register that says menu items are $1 more. After looking at my bank account, I was charged $11.54 despite my online order coming to a total of $10.55 including tax. Had I not picked up, I wouldn't have been aware of the price increase or that I was actually being charged more than what was originally stated. That seems a little dishonest to me. Just update the menu prices! This was my first time ordering Chinese food near DTSS but I think I'll keep looking for my regular go-to. The food wasn't bad by any means but it also wasn't great either. The fried rice was probably the best item and was better than other fried rices I've had but the General Tso's Chicken wasn't spicy or flavorful despite my choosing the spicy option. Bored of eating in so decided to try out Spring Garden. They had one of the better ratings when searching for Chinese food spots so decided to try them out. Really enjoyed that they had a wide menu selection. For COVID they're currently only doing take out. They've basically turned their doorway into a take out window which is nice to know no other customers are inside. They have parking spots marked as well. Overall thought the entree dishes were pretty good. I had the sesame chicken, delicious flavor and a good crunchy texture. My partner had the lo mein and said it was really good, they liked the thicker noodles. I wasn't a huge fan of the vegetarian dumplings. Maybe the meat ones are better? This place is awful! After waiting over 20 minutes for one of the four dirty tables to be cleaned we were finally seated. Apps were terrible! (See pictures). One of the three entrees that we ordered was delivered 20 minutes before the other two to the wrong table. Several minutes later, the waitress realized her error and promptly removed it from the wrong table and re-served it to us. (Gross!!!). I have to admit, I was skeptical trying out this place because the menu is very diverse. But I gave it a shot because one of my co-workers suggested it and they deliver to my place of work. We ended up ordering a few things; beef and broccoli, mixed veggies with chicken, orange chicken, and shrimp fried rice. We found that ordering from their website was cheapest but pick up only, while Uber eats was faster delivery. Collectively the food was pretty good. What I really enjoyed was that the fried rice wasn't greasy, the egg rolls, and the beef with broccoli. My co-worker said the orange chicken didn't taste as orange-y as she was expecting it to, and I had nothing to compare it to because I generally don't order that dish. Would I go out my way to get food here again? Probably not, but if my co-workers wanted to then I won't protest. read more

I grew up on the original Spring Garden that was located on 16th st. My family would order from here for every family birthday party that I can remember. I have watched the owners kids grow up. This was my first time sitting down in the new location since the development of the purple line displaced them. The food is every bit amazing as the old location. If you have had the best quality of Chinese food then you know that Spring Gardens food and menu is the best around. They even offer Sushi and Japanese food option. I only eat egg drop soup from here because they mix the soup well no clumps. The taste is better than any I have ever had. I enjoy their fresh steamed dumplings and chicken with broccoli as well. We found this place during the pandemic. The first time we ordered from here, we were at awed with duck crepes. I love duck meat and coming from Philadelphia and New York, i am very OCD to recommend a place that serves duck. This place has my go to for duck crepes. However, we also liked their sushi and pad thai.we have tried many sushi places in Montgomery county and Spring Garden deserves 5 stars for their amazing sushi, sashimi salad, sweet and sour chicken, and pad thai. We are planning to tried other plates they served. If you want a good place to eat Asian food, for me, Spring Garden is your place. New gem I came across on Yelp. I was looking for a new sushi restaurant in Silver Spring. They had good reviews on Yelp amd Google. They also delivered so that was another plus. I ordered Spider, California, Super Philly, tuna, and crab rolls. Each roll was fresh and flavorful. I look forward to trying other asian dishes and desserts on their menu. So far so good. I have been visiting Spring Garden for over ten years. However, tonight is my farewell to one of my favorite places to order from. The restaurant has obviously gotten rid of the Chinese chefs who used to turn out the greatest authentic Chinese meals. The food that I ordered tonight was not Chinese. The food tasted like someone prepared it with no knowledge of what they were preparing. The flavor and texture of the dish had nothing to do with Asia, let alone China. I imagine the place might get by for a short time. But, eventually patrons will notice that they are no longer eating Chinese food. Tonight I noticed for the first time that the usual Chinese chefs have been replaced with Mexican chefs. I've seen Mexican chefs cook many types of cuisine. These chefs were probably hired at half the cost of the Chinese chefs they replaced. They are not good cooks. They couldn't even fake very well. We'll I guess it's back to Silver Spring Thai, where the chefs are Thai with the ability to book authentic Thai. So long Spring Garden. It's been a great decade. read more

Today I order tom yum soup again from them because the first time it was great. This time it was. A milky, curry taste soup. That clearly is not Tom yum. This is my new favorite for sushi and noodles in the Silver Spring area. I ordered online (protip: if you're within a certain radius, there is free delivery if you order on their website and you can avoid the fee on Yelp). I got edamame, salmon avocado roll, salmon roe nigiri, and pork lo mein (yay for leftovers). Delivery came in about an hour, order was correct, price was very reasonable, and the driver was nice. Everything was delicious! The sushi was fresh and the rice to fish ratio was heavy on the fish, which made me really happy. Sometimes salmon roe can be hit or miss, especially with delivery, and this was spot on. The pork lo mein was actually impressive. It was big cuts of pork that were well cooked and nothing tasted overly oily. Will definitely be ordering again! read more

I am SO happy Spring Garden is back. I was devastated at the loss of the previous location and thought there was no hope at the end of the takeout tunnel. But once I learned they were reopening, my roommate and I checked the new location spot every single time we were in the area to see when they were reopening. This is our go-to takeout spot! One thing I am a little disappointed about is the soups don't have a Large size anymore, and there's no more egg drop wonton soup. That part is fine, I can just buy both soups and combine them, but the previous convenience is well-missed. Quality of the food is good and I haven't been disappointed yet. There's a bunch of different kind of appetizers, soups, and salads to try too, and I like adding on one new thing to each order to try. The wok-tossed chicken wings are AMAZING!!!! I have eaten here a lot and the food has been consistently good. However, I recently tried the sweet and sour tofu which was pretty bad. The veggies were overcooked what there was and the tofu was fried too long which dried it out so that the crispy outside separated from the tofu. I'm very disappointed, I grew up eating here as a kid and absolutely loved it. But unfortunately after they switched locations it just fell apart. Me and my family ordered beef and broccoli, pad Thai, lo mein, calamari and the soft shell crab. I can legitimately say every dish was 1/10 and lacked flavor profile completely. The pad Thai was nothing even close to pad Thai and just tasted like a random dish. The beef and broccoli was probably the worse of all, but the biggest disappointment was the lo mein, because how do you possibly mess up lo mein. The soft shell crab came with legs only and no crab body so that was also very upsetting. Delivery was ONLY 20 minutes! Amazing! My order was packed so carefully and thoughtfully. They even put my soy sauce in a little cup for dipping AND put it in a little bag just in case it spills. My delivery driver was so friendly and polite! I didn't know they existed until I tried to find some inexpensive American-Asian food on Yelp. I had always ordered from their neighbor, Mayflower, which isn't that great. They're average at best. Now that I've found them, I'm never going back to Mayflower. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The vegetarian General Tso's chicken tasted even better than their real counterpart. I can't wait to try more of their other items on the menu. Portion sizes are so generous, I'm going to be taking half of it to work for lunch. Update: Since my original review I have tried their tom yum soup, hot and sour soup, miso soup, and many other items. I DO NOT recommend getting any of the soups here. Everything else they have besides the soup and chicken wings are delicious! Tom yum soup only had 2 shrimps inside the whole container. Felt ripped off for the price I had paid. Very odd vegetables in the soup not typical of of tom yum. The broth was so bland, I've had ramen seasoning that tasted more tom yum than their version. I don't usually throw away food, but this was inedible and I had to dump it. Miso soup tasted watered down and not as salty or flavorful as most miso soups I've had before. Hot and sour soup was neither hot or sour. I had to add Sriracha to it to make it a little more edible. Wok tossed chicken wings were soggy and not that good. The wasabi ranch dipping sauce that goes with it turned out to be just plain ranch. So disappointing! All of the vegetarian dishes and sushi are delicious and they have amazing prices for the food. read more
