Called ahead of time and asked how much it would be to have them run a diagnostic to see what was wrong with my car. They said 75$ on the phone. When I went in to pick up they somehow came to the price of 250$ and said I could not have my keys back until I paid. I ended up paying because I was already late for class. Apparently, Kool Auto has been bought out by Motor City and is now located at 4601 District Blvd. I went there because my wife's car was having AC problems and it was only blowing cold air from the defrost vent. I researched the problem and was expecting a large repair bill. The mechanic found a bad vacuum line under the hood which turned out to be the problem. The shop does have a $165 diagnostic fee which is reasonable and that's all I was charged to find the problem and make the repair. I am happy with that price. Keith the service writer there was great. I trust this shop and will return for other auto repairs. read more

My Air conditioning was starting to go on the blink in my 2015 Tacoma. I called my reputable mechanic John at JPs Automotive for his recommendation. Cool Auto Air was his answer I drove down to the location on 30th street. I was greeted by Damon who said he could help me out.Waiting room was clean and had a few vintage soft drink machines that took me back a few decades. I made a appointment for 8am the following day technician took my truck in promptly, I received a call from Damon about a hour later with the bad news, my compressor was shot and needed replacement. I gave the ok. My truck was ready the next morning at 8:30 and it's working perfect. The price was right with great friendly professional service. I was looking for a AC shop and was recommended to Kool Auto AC, called up and spoke to Auggie at front desk, made appt, took it in and got a diagnosis and turned out needed a comp, pressure valve, relay. So I said do it , got it fixed and went on my way by 5 pm as promised. A week went by and AC quit blowing cold so I called auggie and yold me yo bring it by friday. Long story short, it was an Oring that failed, replaced it free of charge( covered by warranty) and happy to report we are COLD again. Thank you Auggie for excellent customer service, promise of completed work , And standing by said warranty work. I recommend stopping by and see Auggie, he'll fix you up. read more

My sons AC in his car was not working, someone recommended this shop. He took it in and the guy that helped him was really friendly and accommodating, squeezing him in the same day. He said he'd look at it and give him a call and my son was very excited to maybe get his AC fixed for the Bakersfield summer. But a few hours later he calls and said it was ready to pick up and would be $200, he said he had fixed some leaks in the hose and that there was still a small leak by the compressor that would have to be fixed but was expensive and didn't need attention right away. My son was kinda bummed because he thought the guy was going to call with prices before making any repairs, he had $200 saved and I gave him a little more to go pick up his car, he came home and said even though it had taken all his savings it had never been colder. Unfortunately the very next day when he got in to drive it it was back to blowing hot air. I told him to take it back and say it was still not fixed but he said he had no more money and the last time they fixed it without calling him and he would just drive without air. EDIT after reading my review the owner contacted me and has since made it right, we were very happy with the service we received, Will was super friendly when we took the car back in. Came to Kool Air auto at 10 am 7/11/24. Was told 165 for ac diagnosis that's labor included. I told them I just needed a relay switch and I didn't know where it was location in my car. Waited for a few hours in the office then decided to go home till my car was finished. Call them every couple of hours to see if the work has been finished with no responses. My car has to stay overnight. I call in the morning with no response. I go in at 2:30 pm to see if I can find out whats going on. The receptionist is saying its his second day and that he is still learning and trying his best. They finally said they found the problem it was a relay switch. I knew that already and was the reason I came in. They sourced the part for me without asking me how much it would be. They then installed this relay without telling me how much labor it would cost. I waited till 5:30 before my car was pulled to the front by the mechanic Augie and he wrote me a receipt for 598.97. I said that's way higher then I expected to be paying. The mechanic then lied to my face and said it was very complicated to get to and he had to remove and reinstall my passenger airbag to get to it. He even said he could have charged me and extra hour of labor it was so complicated. I got my car home and checked to see how "complicated" it was after finding out the location. I was able to remove the relay and reinstall it in under a minute as someone with no mechanical training. I tried contacting the business on 7/15/24 10 am and spoke to the receptionist Will and asked to speak with the owner or have their contact info. He said the owner was there and I waited on hold to speak with him. He introduced himself as the owner his name was Tony and got his#. I explained this same situation to him and he said he would give me a refund and contact me later in the evening with info. I have waited 24 hours for a response from him and have bad feelings about this whole transaction. I want others to know that this place could be ripping them off beware. Been having issues with my AC not blowing cold all the time. This place came "HIGHLY" recommended by a buddy. Called them up on a Tuesday morning and they were able to get the truck (2003 Tacoma) in that afternoon. Turned out it was only low on refrigerant. Tested the system and filled topped it off and had it picked up just before they closed. SUPER nice and professional. Only place I'm going for now on for any AC work! Thank you all again!! read more

Took my ranger here to get the AC recharged. My accumulator was bad and they suggested I replace it. "Without replacing the accumulator, your AC might last a week or two. If you do replace it, it should last at least a year or two." This is what they told me. So they talked me into replacing the accumulator and I gladly handed over $350 for that job. Three weeks later, after one use of the AC, it stopped working. My compressor had also been "seeping." Not leaking (the owner was very clear on this).They told me it was an actual leak, just seepage, which meant the AC would last at least a year or two. So they basically talked me into spending $350 and told me it would be good for at least a year. Now I'm back three weeks later and they want to charge me another $400-500 to replace the thing that should have been replaced the first time that they said I didn't need. I will get my compressor replaced now but I'm definitely going somewhere else because these people are idiots. read more

This place was recommended to me. They only want easy repairs. Daniel told me it was too much work to "fix" my a/c and he would only replace every part for $1800. Charged me $90 diagnostic fee and did not tell me there would be a diagnostic fee until I picked it up. Should have asked. Kool Air is the only place in bakersfield that can crimp hoses, and retrofit parts. My ford ranger had a leak and every shop said $120 to try and diagnose. If they couldn't find it, i still had to pay. I went without a/c/ for 4 years till one day a guy told me about kool auto. Like it was a secret and not to share. So i went their, and as soon as i opened the hood. the guy said your hose isnt crimped right, and is most likely slowly leaking. So he cut off the bad crimp and put on a net metal connector, crimped it and it has worked like new ever since. Cost $20. I went back a few months later and gave them another $20 just for being integrious, knowledgable, compassionate and well appreciated. Ill only go to kool auto from now on. So on 6/18/15 I took my car in to get my car ac fixed.. They said it was the blower, fine got it fix I was so happy because it has been such a hot summer and with a infant it just sucked.. AC worked really good but didn't last, paid almost $400 to get it fixed.. I had gave them a good review on FB.. Now for 2 weeks ac has been doing the same exact thing like before, now it completely stop blowing.. I call the shop to see if they can take a look at it since it was for the same problem and it has only been 2 months.. The guy (can't remember his name) said there was nothing he can do because they fixed what was wrong to take it somewhere else.. First of all I could of taken it somewhere else in the first place but a few people told me they were the best in town.. This guy gave me attitude like if I was bothering him with questions.. Brought in my car and told them ac hadnt worked in a while. They said because it was an old car and it might have sealant in the system they wont work on it. Not 1 car in the place and 2 guys washing owners motorhome. LOL Take business elsewhere. They only want easy money work. read more
