Korean Air Boeing Plane at Sea-Tac Airport
    Jon L.

Good airline. Almost as good as Singapore Airlines. On my second international trip ever, I flew on Korean Air from Seattle to Shanghai with a stopover at Incheon Airport. On the return, I flew Korean from Hong Kong to Seattle with a stop again at Incheon. Korean Air provides service from Seattle to Incheon Airport where you connect to other Asian cities from there. Like most international flights out of Sea-Tac, Korean flies out of the South Satellite terminal in which you need to take the people mover system to get to. There are not very many appealing dining options at South Satellite, so it would be best to get a bite in the Central Terminal before heading over. I love flying international because of the extras (previously standard offerings) that flying domestic in the US no longer provides like meal service (even on a 2 hour flight!) and free check-in baggage. Check-in at Seattle was fine, though Korean is located at the far end of the airport. I did have to provide my airline miles number since my travel agent didn't enter it initially, which the ticketing agent successfully completed. Though it seemed like English was their secondary language. I did have to provide my mileage info again at HK since the Seattle agent didn't enter it in. At Hong Kong Airport, the Korean location is Terminal 1. I found it easier to speak Cantonese (though I am not great at speaking it). Though I think English would have been fine too. Major props to the ticketing agents for being able to converse in numerous languages. Flight time to Asia is longer than the return. The planes used to cross from Seattle to Incheon were bigger than the ones used for my East Asian flights naturally. Seating was pretty comfortable for economy class. I had aisle seats on all of my flights. I actually found the seats all the way at the back to be the most comfortable as it seemed to have a little more space. Two meals were served on the long flight over the Pacific and I got a meal on the flight to Shanghai and travelling from HK. If you are taking Korean, you definitely need to try the beef bibimbap bowl. It comes with gochujang (hot pepper) sauce that does wonders for this dish. The only thing is the portion is kind of small and I felt hungry afterwards soon after. But I like this over the Western options. Though the omelette I had for breakfast back to Seattle was not too bad. As far as drinks, they serve beer, wine and spirits along with the usual drinks. Give the Korean beer a try if you haven't. Also, I was surprised to see that they serve Hawaiian Sun guava nectar and pineapple juice. Random, but awesome. The entertainment system on Korean is great. They have a library of 60 or so movies available. The majority of flicks are very recent. There is Hollywood fare as well as Chinese, European, Japanese and Korean films. You can also watch TV comedies and dramas, though I noticed there was not much of a selection of Korean dramas. Rounding out the entertainment are a selection of games and a library of music (radio stations and albums) including a whole section devoted to Korean music. Though I didn't see "Gangnam Style" as a selection. I am sure that will become an option on the system soon. I did lastly want to make note of what happens after landing at Incheon and Sea-Tac. At Incheon, the floor that arriving passengers enter the airport is not the same as the one that departing passengers leave from. Arriving passengers enter one floor down. If South Korea is your destination, you go to immigration. If you are transferring, you need to go through a security area and get re-screened. Once clear, you take the escalator upstairs to get to your gate. It would have been great to take advantage of the shopping at Incheon since it is very mall-like, but I didn't have much connection time left before boarding the second flight after going through security. As for at Sea-Tac, they also separate arriving passengers from those departing. You go through immigration and then pick up your baggage at South Satellite instead of at the main baggage area. After doing so, you go through customs before exiting. Overall, the experience flying at Korean was pretty good. I liked it almost as much as my flights on Singapore Airlines last year. In-flight service and the flying experience was smooth. I would gladly fly Korean again.

A few days ago, after everyone had already boarded the plane, we were asked to deboard due to some confusion surrounding a pilot delay. Unfortunately, it would've put us over an hour behind and risked us missing our connecting flight. Stressful to say the least. Thankfully, one of the Delta attendants immediately jumped into action. I wish I had caught her name because she was incredible. She was already helping rearrange flights for passengers and within just a few minutes of speaking with her, she managed to get us on a direct flight to our destination instead! Not only did it save our trip, but it actually gave us extra time to relax and enjoy breakfast at the Delta lounge. A perfect example of the "burnt toast theory", sometimes an inconvenience ends up working out even better in the end. Amazing customer service and such a kind, efficient employee. Thank you, Delta!

There was a woman and a man who were in the back of the plane where the restrooms are. Before the flight even took off, the woman said to her male coworker that "the higher ups" don't like her and that's why she's in the back. They then continued talking extremely loudly to the extent that I and several people seated near me thought the conversation was coming out of the overhead speakers. Their conversations consisted of a kind of flirty exchange where the woman was sharing her entire dating life, stories about being drunk and even saying that she has 6 months clean. They continued talking extremely loudly despite multiple passengers looking back and questioning how they could be so unaware. The plane was extremely quiet as many people were returning from Las Vegas so extremely tired and trying to nap. After about 45 minutes, I went to the bathroom near them and politely asked if they realized that the whole back half of the plane e could hear their entire conversation. The response was that this is how they keep themselves awake on the job and began laughing and exchanging undermining and outwardly rude glances. I went back to my seat and about 10 minutes later, a man who was two rows from the back of the plane stood up and asked something similar to the following...would you guys mind keeping it down? We have spent the entire time on this flight listening to your discussions about inappropriate subjects and we would appreciate it if you would remain professional and spare us the details of your personal lives. They laughed and did not respond at which point t he said, "no wonder the higher up's don't like you." They continued to converse loudly and snicker about the passengers requests. At one point a different flight attendant approached them and we thought she would be asking them to quiet down but within moments she was laughing and clearly not informing them that they were out of line. At this time, I was filming and attempting to Document the situation. The woman then approached my seat and demanded that I stop recording. She had a red card and said if I did not stop recording she would hand the red card and I would be met by the police upon landing. When I tried to explain the situation, she said that she was unaware of that and when I asked for a supervisor, she stated the there was no supervisor on board and reminded me that it is against privacy rules to Record anyone without their permission. Overall, this was the worst flight I have ever experienced. The lack of professionalism and common courtesy was astounding. I will never fly with Frontier again.

Before I made the reservation I somehow did not see the 55 minute connection in Paris but I certainly noticed after I bought the ticket. I called the airline and they said people make th3 connection all the time with no issues. On the return travel day, we departed Marsellie 10 minutes late. Upon landing the pilot of our Air France plane said we arrived only 5 minutes late. After pulling up to the gate, there was no announcement about letting transferring passengers deplane first. By the way, We were assigned seats by the airline in the back of the plane. We had also been told our arriving and departing planes would be relatively close. We landed at 2F and had to get to 2E Gate L53. After getting off the plane we scurried ahead to find Passport control and only 4 agents working a line of 200 people. 2 of the 4 agents were helping priority customers only, like first class. The other 2 were helping the vast majority of us. After 25 minutes we made it through Passport control. We then ran. We ran and ran. We ran on the moving sidewalks and shouted "pardon" in French a hundred times. By the time we got to L53 we discovered the gates were nearly as far apart as possible within the terminal 2. Anyway, our flight was to depart at 1:10 pm. We arrived panting at 1pm. They asked us who we were and entered our names and then wouldn't talk to us for another 5 minutes when I finally blurted out, are we going to be able to get in the flight or not? They said "Sorry to say you have missed your flight". A moment before she said this I saw AFrance escorting a passenger down the gangway, probably a first class passenger, we were just steerage. At 1:20, 20 minutes after we arrived, we were sent away to another desk to try and find a different flight. As we walked away, our plane we should have been on was still sitting there. By the way, I heard Air France tell 6 other customers the same thing, "Sorry YOU have missed your flight" rather than the appropriate "Sorry, WE caused you to miss your connection ". We ended up getting home only 5 hours later than anticipated but we had the worst seats imaginable on our remaining flights, and of course we did not get to sit together!! I don't think I will fly Air France again, ever.

Take our recent quick 2-day trip from LAS to SEA. Roundtrip tickets were barely over $100 per person round trip. Holy crap! Say what you want, but that is a real good price! Bag fees are tricky for me. If I have a short trip I don't need to pack a lot. No matter what you do, you do get a free personal item. That is really calling it too tight for comfort, IMO. So, for this last trip I did an upgrade on their website for $35 per way, per person ($140.00 total). My extra $140 got us assigned seating to sit next to my partner for both flights near the front of the plane for both legs. It also got both of us a free carry-on item each, both ways in addition to our personal item. More than enough for a 2-day trip! Considering the fact that, if you checked in a bag at the airport day of, it could cost you $65 per bag, per leg that feels like a great deal! The airline is known for offering flights to the most destinations around the world. I flew on Turkish a few years ago from Seattle to Thessaloniki via Istanbul during spring break. For the most part, it was a good experience. The pluses are mostly with the in-flight experience. They use Dreamliner planes and serve tasty meals on all flights, including my short haul flights to and from Greece. The IFE system has extensive entertainment and they give all passengers an amenity bag on long haul flights. Lastly, the baggage allowance is generous as you can check in 2 bags. I do also want to bring up some items to consider booking on Turkish. My flight to Istanbul was nearly a hour late, but I still made my connection. Try not to book flights with short layovers. Also some of the connections have long layovers to destinations in the Middle East and Central Asia with flights arriving at odd hours. You may want to consider doing a stopover in Istanbul instead, which Turkish has a good program for. Lastly, gate security in Istanbul is extensive. So expect a thorough check of your carryon items before your flight. Overall, I enjoyed flying on Turkish. It is a well run airline with good fares to Europe and a great in-flight experience. However, you should consider travel time, especially layovers and the amount of backtracking needed to get to your destination when deciding whether to book.
