Ask the Community - Alaska Airlines

I just spent a miserable 3 hours on a flight from OC to Seattle because of a barking "service dog (which the owner admitted she didn't need but didn't want to pay the fee to fly her dog. What is Alaska air going to do?

They won't comp at all, the customer service offered by this airline is a palling.

    Are there bag fees?

Yes unless you have elite status, their credit card or flying within the state of Alaska.

How is the first class food?

I don't have other first class experience to compare to, but I found it pretty good. I have submitted pictures of some of the selections I have had. Recently the entree was a risotto with asparagus and it was good. I remember the southwest…

But I've flown with Delta plenty of times thru the years, and usually have a good experience with them. Fast forward to 2026, and most airlines will nickle and dime you on all their services; services that used to be complimentary. But it's a whole different world now. However, Delta is one of the very few airlines that will still allow a free carry on item plus a personal item. So kudos to Delta! As with all other airlines, Delta has cut back on their meal service. Food is available for purchase but don't expect a free meal on board. I had a 6.5 hr flight and all we got was your choice of Cheezits, pretzels or cookies, and a beverage. We could have purchased a cold, probably not so good sandwich for $15 but no thanks! Best to eat before boarding or bring your own food into the plane. Please don't bring stinky food onto the plane....everyone will thank you! lol All in all, (even though services have been cut), hospitality and customer service is still pretty great! Kudos to Delta's friendly, professional and courteous staff!

Had an unusual (for us) situation occur, so instead of putting it on reddit, documenting it here…read more My wife and I regularly fly Delta roundtrip from LAX to SEA to visit our daughter/son-in-law, so probably have flown this flight leg over 10 times in the past 3 years or so. We were heading back on a 17:30 flight, but needed to check out of our airbnb by 11, so ended up at the airport quite early (like more than 5 hours early). Delta allows one to check their bags up to 6 hours earlier than departure time, and since we now had wine that we needed to bring back, needed to check two bags. Everything went fine, and the agent gave us the receipts. Later I noticed that the our flight number was not on the tags, but the notifications on the Delta App said it was checked in for the right flight. I then got a notification 45 minutes later stating that our bags were now on the plane. My first (incorrect) thought was, "Wow, our plane got here real early.". But then I realized that it was a different flight number, and they were going to send the bags on a much earlier flight. Since I had time before my flight (and I don't mind walking), decided to see if I could get some help to get the bag pulled as soon it entered the carousel at LAX (vs having it spin around for 1 hour before being picked up). I figured I would get some help since the situation was caused by somebody at Delta doing something incorrect, in the first place. Initially went to the Delta Lounge to see if the service agent inside could help me. Since I was still well outside the 3 hour access period, was told (nicely) by the entry agent to go to Concourse B to get help from an agent. Once I got there, noticed there were two agents on duty with no queue. Karen pleasantly asked me how she could help, and then proceeded to do the opposite. Once I explained my problem, her response was 'it happens sometimes', and that unclaimed bags would be picked up for storage and I could pick it up later at the office. I told her that I didn't like it being unattended where anybody could just pick it up and go, and instead if Delta baggage from LAX could grab it as soon as it came out (I know this is possible). She sighed and then started to type away for 5 minutes, mumbling that she would look for the phone number for the LAX baggage office. I wasn't sure if she was going to just give me the number for me to call, or she would do it herself...but it never got that far. She just said that her computer wasn't cooperating, and that I could use the bank of landline phones to call Delta customer service to get the number. The bad part of me wanted to tell the next person in line, 'she won't be much help' while pointing to Karen and walking away, but thought better of it. I then walked back to the Delta lounge, told the entry agent that Karen wasn't very helpful, and asked nicely if I could talk to an agent in the lounge. She agreed (but warned me that I needed to leave as soon as I was done) and directed me to Susan. I explained my problem, and she proceeded to confidently tell me that I could pick up my bags at the LAX baggage office. After two iterations of this, I told her that 'she wasn't listening to me'...which finally got her attention. I requested if she could call the LAX office, and she said that she could try, but often times, they don't pick up the phone. And she told me if the baggage was stolen, I could always file a claim. I still asked her to try to call, and she said she would. When it became clear that she wouldn't do it at that moment, there was nothing more for me to do but to leave. I did later get a notification on the Delta App that my bags had arrived at the carousel, being one of the first bags out. It was then a full 90 minutes later when I got a notification saying that it had been picked up by the Delta baggage office...so thinking there was no call. As we were boarding our flight, got an email saying that our baggage needed to be picked up at the baggage office, since it had arrived early. When we got to LAX (almost 2 hours late because of delays), the bags were waiting for us just like Delta said it would. Learned (again) that sometimes trying to be proactive about solving a possible edge-case problem, requires the people who can help to agree that 1) it's a problem and 2) they should spend the effort to help the customer solve it. On this day, the LAX/SEA Delta employees and I didn't agree on either.

Even with the seat assignments, charging for the 2nd bag and having to check in for boarding groups can seem more cumbersome and inefficient; the one thing that STILL stands out to me is the Gold Standard of customer service that has NOT changed! I especially would like to point out a recent experience I had at the Seattle Ticket Counter with agent: Vise - She was so gracious, and worked to reroute us even though our booked flights were over 10 hours away still, and put us in seats together through both legs of our trip and got us home a half day earlier than planned. This has helped me realize that great customer service still exists and that is why I still Fly SWA! :)

You will be pestered with emails suggesting to pay for this and that in advance to make your trip more pleasant or predictable. You MAY be asked to prove that your hand luggage fits in their size bins (there were two next to my gate with stern warnings, so you can try in advance). You CAN pay through the app in the airport if you need to convert your personal item into a carry-on but that will eat some of the savings. The seats do not tilt; because of that the seating area is actually wider and pant size 42 man comfortably fits with no intrusion to the neighboring space. IMHO 44 should fit too. Your flight crew WILL be nice and bottomless tea or coffee will be 4 bucks. The lavatory is, probably, not cleaned between the flights. I was first and the seat was already "sprinkled" and one of two rolls of toilet paper was already down to the bare core. Short delays are very common with Frontier (at least on LAX-SEA they are) but usually they recover most of it through the flight. My flight left 20 minutes late but arrived on-time. If you fly with just the "personal item" AKA small backpack 18x14x8", accept the toilet situation (I am not saying that they never clean, only that on my flight it was not - for sure), and OK with the need to walk / take a free shuttle from the gate to the airplane, you will save 35%. If you have carry on, you will save ~15%, and if you are flexible with your travel dates, you will fly half-price comparing to the major airlines. The caveat is the usual - no changes and no upgrades of anything.

I flew from LAs Vegas to Seattle today on flight number 2407. The flight attendants were, by far,…read morethe most unprofessional, unhelpful, and rude attendants I have ever encountered. There was a woman and a man who were in the back of the plane where the restrooms are. Before the flight even took off, the woman said to her male coworker that "the higher ups" don't like her and that's why she's in the back. They then continued talking extremely loudly to the extent that I and several people seated near me thought the conversation was coming out of the overhead speakers. Their conversations consisted of a kind of flirty exchange where the woman was sharing her entire dating life, stories about being drunk and even saying that she has 6 months clean. They continued talking extremely loudly despite multiple passengers looking back and questioning how they could be so unaware. The plane was extremely quiet as many people were returning from Las Vegas so extremely tired and trying to nap. After about 45 minutes, I went to the bathroom near them and politely asked if they realized that the whole back half of the plane e could hear their entire conversation. The response was that this is how they keep themselves awake on the job and began laughing and exchanging undermining and outwardly rude glances. I went back to my seat and about 10 minutes later, a man who was two rows from the back of the plane stood up and asked something similar to the following...would you guys mind keeping it down? We have spent the entire time on this flight listening to your discussions about inappropriate subjects and we would appreciate it if you would remain professional and spare us the details of your personal lives. They laughed and did not respond at which point t he said, "no wonder the higher up's don't like you." They continued to converse loudly and snicker about the passengers requests. At one point a different flight attendant approached them and we thought she would be asking them to quiet down but within moments she was laughing and clearly not informing them that they were out of line. At this time, I was filming and attempting to Document the situation. The woman then approached my seat and demanded that I stop recording. She had a red card and said if I did not stop recording she would hand the red card and I would be met by the police upon landing. When I tried to explain the situation, she said that she was unaware of that and when I asked for a supervisor, she stated the there was no supervisor on board and reminded me that it is against privacy rules to Record anyone without their permission. Overall, this was the worst flight I have ever experienced. The lack of professionalism and common courtesy was astounding. I will never fly with Frontier again.

Since it was a relatively short route, I wasn't expecting anything special--I simply wanted a smooth journey. The booking process was easy to understand, and I completed everything in less than ten minutes. The confirmation email arrived instantly and included all the travel details I needed. I especially liked that the airline sent a reminder the day before departure with online check-in instructions, making the whole process feel well organized. ## *Friendly Staff Made a Difference Before Boarding* The airport was moderately busy, but the check-in experience was pleasant. The staff greeted passengers warmly and worked efficiently to keep the lines moving. One family in front of me had several questions about their luggage, and the employee patiently explained everything without making the rest of the queue feel ignored. After passing through security, I spent a little time walking around the terminal before heading to my gate. Boarding started close to the scheduled time, and passengers were invited onboard in groups, which made everything much more orderly. ## *A Relaxed Journey from Takeoff to Landing* The aircraft was clean, and my aisle seat was comfortable enough for the flight. The cabin had a calm atmosphere, and the crew welcomed everyone with genuine smiles as passengers boarded. Refreshments were served promptly, and throughout the journey the crew checked on passengers regularly. During the flight, the captain pointed out that we were passing over a beautiful mountain range on one side of the aircraft. It was a small announcement, but many passengers, including me, looked out the window to enjoy the view. Moments like that made the journey feel a little more personal instead of just another routine flight. ## *A Journey I'd Happily Repeat* We landed on schedule, and the arrival process was quick and well organized. My baggage was delivered without delay, and within a short time I was already meeting my cousin outside the terminal. Looking back, what stood out wasn't one big thing--it was how consistently everything was handled. From the easy booking process and helpful airport staff to the friendly cabin crew and smooth arrival, every part of the trip was enjoyable. It's the kind of airline experience that quietly earns your trust, and I'd be happy to fly with them again whenever the opportunity comes.

Because my timetable was tight, I wanted a morning flight that had a good reputation for being reliable. The booking process was simple, and I appreciated how easy it was to compare different departure times before making my choice. The website clearly listed baggage limits, seat selection, and fare conditions, so there weren't any surprises during checkout. My confirmation email arrived almost immediately, and I received another reminder before departure with check-in instructions and my boarding pass, which saved me time at the airport. ## *The Airport Process Was Smooth from Start to Finish* I reached the airport early in the morning expecting the usual rush, but everything was managed efficiently. The check-in counters were well staffed, and although there was a queue, it moved steadily. The employees remained polite while helping passengers and handled baggage quickly. After security, I had enough time to sit near the gate with a coffee before boarding began. Announcements were made clearly, and boarding started right on schedule. Passengers entered the aircraft in an organized manner, making the entire process feel relaxed instead of hectic. ## *A Comfortable Flight with Excellent Communication* The aircraft was clean, and my seat was comfortable for the duration of the journey. Shortly after takeoff, the captain welcomed everyone onboard and explained that we had favorable weather along the route, so we were expecting a smooth flight. The cabin crew were friendly without being overly formal. They served refreshments efficiently and checked on passengers regularly throughout the journey. I noticed one elderly traveler who needed assistance placing a bag in the overhead compartment, and one of the crew members immediately stepped in to help with a smile. The flight passed quickly, and before long the captain announced that we had already begun our descent. ## *Exactly the Kind of Experience Frequent Travelers Appreciate* We landed a few minutes ahead of schedule, which gave me extra time before my first meeting. Baggage delivery was completed within about fifteen minutes, allowing me to leave the airport without any unnecessary waiting. Overall, this flight reminded me that a good travel experience doesn't have to be luxurious. Reliable service, punctual operations, friendly staff, and a comfortable cabin are often all you really need. Everything went according to plan, and I would gladly choose this airline again for future work trips.

So, for this last trip I did an upgrade on their website for $35 per way, per person ($140.00 total). My extra $140 got us assigned seating to sit next to my partner for both flights near the front of the plane for both legs. It also got both of us a free carry-on item each, both ways in addition to our personal item. More than enough for a 2-day trip! Considering the fact that, if you checked in a bag at the airport day of, it could cost you $65 per bag, per leg that feels like a great deal! I mean, even with the extra money my total ticket price is still under $200 each round trip. I can totally live with that! As for the flights themselves, it is still Spirit so keep your expectations reasonable (read:low). Both flights were delayed, but nothing too bad. Usual mix of some very nice employees and some mildly passive ones as well. Nothing too bad. Honestly, I can bitch all I want, but I know for the right price and a short enough trip I will use them again. 3 stars.

Please update your baggage policy on the website, that would be courteous especially for active duty personnel. You get two free baggage but at the counter you are told to verify your ID at the time of purchasing. Had amazing experience flying from Seattle to Helsinki to my home country Latvia with Finnair…read more Finnair expanded their flights and I was happy to see that I can fly trough Helsinki instead of Frankfurt to my home country out of Seattle because layover was shorter and it's also only 1 hour flight from Helsinki to Riga. Finnair partner up with British airways business lounge and it was very decent food and drinks (compare what I had with Lufthansa last year few celery sticks and a cookie). The lounge wasn't so big and one can hear some rude people speaking loud on their phones but it had a nice view of the runway. Our flight was on time and I was settling in my Business class seat after short boarding process. They welcomed me with the drink ( I choose their signature blueberry juice and Northern Blush cocktail -must try) and they also provide amenity kit (which was disappointing) It didn't had toothbrush or any socks, also their cream had very bad smell and texture. I hope they will improve that. The wireless phone charger didn't work for me because my phone has a case and it was not picking it up. Pillow blanket and pad were provided, also I noticed that I didn't got any slippers because when I was leaving the plane I saw many people had same slippers. Food was very good on the way there. I had for an appetizer crab meat with mayo mousse, caprese salad and nice piece of salmon with veggies. For dessert I had raspberry tart with tea. And plenty of blueberry juice- thats my favorite! (Unfortunately food on the way back wasn't great. They ran out of their signature drink Northern Blush at Helsinki which is Finnair hub!!! Smocked salmon on the way back was too salty and too smocked. Weird food options like shrimp quiche for breakfast or pork dinner which is not so appealing even to person that doesn't have any dietary restrictions. Both breakfast and dinner were bad, breakfast looked poor and tasted poor and dinner I couldn't even eat. Also why to serve cauliflower as a side on a long haul flights). Important to note seat doesn't recline but it lay flat! So you can't adjust it for a recliner like on other planes. Also belt is like in a car. But it didn't bothered me because I could adjust leg part of the seat but not the back. Entertainment was good and they had a lot of good new movies available. I wasn't bored at all! I watch Missis Harris goes to Paris (what an amazing inspirational movie) and The unbearable weight of massive talent. Bed was cozy and I had 4 h nap and woke up to breakfast. Hour and a half before landing in Helsinki they served us Breakfast which was very generous. It had cheese & ham, croissant, bread muffin, fruits, omelette, yogurt and mini jam. I was full and ready to spend 6 h layover at Helsinki! (Originally was 1h40m but then they changed it) Enjoyed my flight and definetely will consider again. Hopefully they will keep their good pricing compare to Swiss and Lufthansa!

I recently flew with Finnair from Seattle, WA to Vilnius, Lithuania; it was a wonderful experience…read morefrom start to finish. I was a bit skeptical at first as I had originally booked with British Air, only to find out that the flights were operated by Finnair. Thankfully, there was clear communication regarding flight details once booked. Onboard, the cabin crew were exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring all passengers were comfortable. The meals served were well proportioned for "airline food." You must try their signature blueberry juice! There was a slight delay departing Seattle, but I had no issues with my connecting flight in Helsinki. All of my other flights took off on time, and we arrived a few minutes early each time. The only drawback is with luggage. My particular ticket was for carry-on luggage only. Finnair has a max combined weight of 8kg (~17.5 lbs), which can be difficult to meet with most suitcases. I used a light-weight travel backpack and just barely made the cutoff. Overall, Finnair exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend them for anyone traveling from Seattle, WA to Vilnius, Lithuania. I will be flying with Finnair again!
