The Doctor and I stopped in here one night to see an art installation by one of our lovely bartenders from The Hopleaf. Jack is a friend of Russ and Russ graciously allowed Jack to show his latest creations. What struck me about the place and Russ was how warm and inviting he and the place were. The overall ambience is elegant and calm. I remember laughingly telling Russ I could see myself coming down on a Friday night with a bottle of bubbles to just hang out with him and chat. While we were there for drinks to support an artist, I couldn't stop thinking about how this would such a calming environment to have to deal with the loss of a loved one. Russ was very lovely to talk to in general and trust me when I say that I never thought I would say that about someone in the funeral business. I mean I have dealt with professional folks who were good at their jobs, but Russ was just nice to talk to. I could see where his demeanor would be a tremendous benefit in helping those dealing with the loss of a love one through the process. We actually discussed what Inclusive had to offer in the services of pre-planning of events as well as living will, etc. Again, not the conversation one would expect over drinks on a night out, but Russ made it seem like it was norm. I hope to not have to use his services for a long, long time. But that said, after spending an evening talking to Russ, I walked away with a sense that he has that level of emotional intelligence to truly connect with his clients.

People who attended the memorial told us what a great job we did, but we couldn't have done it without Brooke.

The grounds are beautifully maintained, and during our visit, workers were actively planting new greenery. It was wonderful to see so much care being given to the landscape. This is far more than a cemetery. It is also an arboretum filled with mature trees, winding paths, impressive monuments, and extraordinary architecture. Pick up a map and give yourself plenty of time to explore. There is a great deal of Chicago history resting here, and nearly every turn reveals another beautiful memorial or quiet place for reflection. As always, remember that this is an active cemetery and treat the grounds and their residents with respect. I arrived carrying my finest crystal ball, intending to conduct a discreet communion with the departed. Unfortunately, before I could summon even the faintest apparition, a large crow descended from an oak tree, seized the crystal ball, and vanished into the canopy. I waited beneath the tree for nearly an hour, demanding the immediate return of my enchanted property. The crow eventually came back--not with the crystal ball, but with a Chicago-style hot dog. It contained sport peppers and not a drop of ketchup, confirming that the bird was unquestionably a local. Although the offering was delicious, it was not a fair exchange. My crystal ball remains somewhere among the branches, presumably being used by a council of crows to predict where tourists will drop their lunches. Graceland Cemetery is serene, historic, beautifully maintained, and absolutely worth visiting. I will return to continue my paranormal investigation--this time carrying a bird-proof crystal ball and perhaps a small bag of french fries for negotiation. Five stars for the cemetery. One star for the thieving crow.

Living in the far North side of Chicago you are left with many options, and big name choices. Although, my intention is not to talk poorly of other funeral home, many left us feeling helpless due to pricing and limited option because they charged for EVERYTHING. From the moment our family walked in, Stuart made us feel comfortable and extended his condolences for our loss. We didn't feel as though we were just another opportunity to make a sale. Stuart and Laura took care of everything, and by I mean everything they did just that. They helped us save money by educating us with options and choices, and providing us with a beautiful funeral for our Father. The staff was friendly and compassionate to our loved ones. The funeral home was clean, offered privacy since it only handled one funeral at a time, and accommodated all of friends and family. I honestly do not write reviews, and felt Benson Family funeral home truly deserved 5 stars. Thank you Stuart and Laura.

He was way too young. One thing I found was how much he impacted so many people. The funeral home was packed w/friends & family attending the funeral. This funeral home operates in a very questionable manner. They have a link to buy a tree or a grove of trees in lieu of flowers. Naturally this is a very nice gesture as flowers die but when I asked & numerous other people asked who was providing the trees & where the trees were being planted the owner of Benson could not provide INFORMATION on who was providing the trees or where the groves were to be planted? Hmmmm soof fishy to me that the owner of the nursing home has no information on who or where the trees are coming from or where they're being planted? They were suppose to provide a live stream of the service for guests that were out of town or the country & couldn't make the service. The live stream stopped part way through the service so many of the people who couldn't attend the service missed it. No refund or partial refund was given. As soon as the service was over they were hustling people out of the funeral home. Uhhh nothing like letting a grieving family mourn their loss. My sister in law went into the kitchen to grab a bite to eat & they had everything wrapped up & she was told she couldn't take anymore food (WTF?). In their haste to get out of the funeral home they collected all the cards off of the flowers & brought them to the back. We had NO IDEA who gave the flowers or if any of the cards were missing or if there was any money or checks inside the envelopes so it made it difficult to properly thank the individuals. I'm not saying they did but it's very odd that they rushed the end of a somber event & took everything in the back, property that doesn't belong to them. Just a poorly run funeral home that really lacks compassion for a grieving family. We had many guests from out of state & a few friends from other countries that came to pay their respects for my nephew. I have never experienced the lack of compassion or been rushed to leave that this funeral home displayed or some of the practices that they have. This funeral home leaves a lot to be desired.

My wife passed away recently and her Father, Mother and Brother passed away in the mid 1980's. Kornick did the original memorials. I needed a headstone that matched the other 3 and I also needed a family marker carved with a name and design added to it. I stressed to Eric everything needed to match. The granite was special order and Eric took personal charge of my orders. He worked with me personally and sent me drawings which we revised and sent back and forth. Finally he sent me a pix of the family marker and it was an identical match. He went to the cemetary and took pictures along the way. Finally the head stone was finished and laid and he sent me more pictures. I felt confident of completion with Eric working with me. He sent documents along the way double and triple checking everything. It still a terrible time for me but Kornick Monuments and Eric Sommerfield has made my life a little easier.
