Stay away! He's all in it for the money. He put in silicone punctal plugs that kept coming out within a week or two. Every time I went back for him to reinsert new plugs, he charged me a surgical copay. Then office staff tried to get me to do lipiflow, offering installment payments and charging a certain percentage interest. I felt like I was shopping at a car dealership. He also wasn't helping me with my dry eye by not telling me things that would help with the DED, like preservative free tears, mask at night, etc. Finally I found one of the best dry eye specialists in Boston area that really helped me with dry eye and used collagen plugs that never came out. When I told the new doctor my experience with Dr Kornmehl (didn't name him), he said let me guess who you went to and he guessed right. So if you suffer dry eye, stay away. There are a few really good dry eye doctors in the Boston area that will care about you and your eye health and not be in it for the money. He's no different than a car salesman. read more

Staff was excellent and after reading about this practice and what they do for dry eye disease I was excited for the visit. I was very disappointed and felt the visit with he dr was very quick. He did not ask much about my prior treatments but just interested in what treatments that he would do. I asked the cost and he said to speak with the front desk. The treatment costs were very high and insurance did not cover any. I just did not have a good feeling. I was charged $250 for a diagnostic test which is outrageous! When I questioned it I was told it was on the forms I had signed. I was under the impression that this was part of the diagnostic testing to diagnose dry eyes. I have been to top eye clinics and was never charged out of pocket for diagnostic testing. I would not recommend this practice. Very disappointed and felt I was duped. read more

I am a Mom of two young children and a small business owner so my day-to-day can be quite chaotic! I had a LASIK procedure and it has completely changed my life. I don't leave yelp reviews often but felt that I had to in this case. Today is day 4 after having LASIK and it went as smooth as it possibly could have. Everyone in the office was incredibly friendly, and kept me calm through the procedure. My eyes healed quickly, and it's amazing to be able to walk around without my glasses. As someone else already mentioned, it was $6,000, but I'd suggest paying up for the doctor that's going to be shooting lasers into your eyes... Will update if my vision changes in the future, but for now, I couldn't recommend Dr Kornmehl more. read more

It was a tough choice to give this place either a 4 star or 5 star.....but since it has been a little over a month and i now have 20/20 vision, I gave this place 5 stars. I was contemplating on the 4 stars because of the price......but....i still think it's worth it. I first did some research over the Internet to find a place that would do lasik, and this place popped up along with others. Kornmehl is the most expensive in Boston...heck this place is more expensive to than DC, Chicago and Cali, but he has really good credentials. Kornmehl has been noted as one of the Boston's Best and also one of the best in the US. Another thing that sold me was that this place was close to my house and had parking. The desire to be close is important because of the number of visits you have to make....initial consultation to measure your eye, the same week of the surgery, the day of the surgery, the day after surgery, the week after surgery and then a month after surgery........so being only 10 min away is very convenient. Like i said, this place is expensive and I am sure there are other surgeons out there that charge less, but I was comfortable with shelling out the dough because I knew my eyes were going to be in good hands. The total bill including some meds that I purchased probably came to $6000. I was fortunate enough to run into a post-op patient in the waiting room, and was able to get a lot of my questions answered. The people there are really nice and are very thorough with the instructions with caring for your eyes after you have them done. They you a nice little eye care bag with all of your meds after surgery, a second pair of plastic patches for your eyes (you need to wear this for a week in the shower and while you sleep) and a set of sunglasses to wear.........which you will need even indoors after surgery. A month after my consultation i received a $600 bill. It stated that i had to pay for the consultation and the tear plugs that went into my eyes because they're dry. I had a heart attack when I saw this bill, so after my surgery I presented this bill to the lady at the front desk and they then waived it. To conclude, I would definitely recommend this place. read more

My son and I had PRK at the same time, and are very happy with the whole experience. The operation is organized and professional. I have had the best experience with this facility. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. The Doctor is efficient and such a skilled surgeon. I can report firmly that I see 20/20 since having LASIK surgery in September of 2010. With a minus -10.00 prescription and astigmatism, this seems almost like a miracle. During my appointment with Dr. Kornmehl we met for between 1.5 and 2 minutes. He gave me a relatively serious diagnosis and then walked out of the room before I could ask questions or discuss treatment. He did not strike me as particularly invested, caring or empathic. read more

No review yet just adding. Anybody had experience? 3 years later I am back and went under Eye surgery under Dr. Kornmehl. Will share my experience here: I had 10.5 and 10.75 diopters I was on the limit for Lasik or PRK. I did not want to go under the Contact Lens Implant CLP sounds scarier then PRK and lasik. The doctor suggested PRK for my case so that was it: 0-Before the surgery you should not ware contacts for at least a week. 1-Day of the surgery the staff were very nice and the newly hired receptionist was very honest and kind. Got my pills and I was relaxed and surrendered to my faith. The procedure took like 30 minutes but seemed to me like 20. There was no pain. Left the office with my bandage and my friend drove me home. I could use my eye all day and had no pain took procecent which really helped. I could see ok although looked double..Spend All day taking the drops every 15 mintues. 2- Day two. I had difficulty oppening my eyes and spend most of the day with closed eyes sleeping and taking the drops as described by the doctor every 15 minutes. We went for the check up and I was told I am healing like I should. I was not able to open my eyes for a long time all day. 3-Day 3 my sight got a bit worst and I was not able to open my eyes for all day took my drops as descriped and slept most of the day. Still having double vision. 4-Day 4: I oppneed my eyes and I can see well although still have blury vision and some double sight. 5-Day 5-8 Continued to take the drops as the doctors said my sight is gradually improving and the double vision is getting smaller and smaller. Will keep you updated. So far it seems I will have close to 20/40 whatever that means may 1 diopter ? But It is well worth it to think that I no longer need to search for my glasses when I wake up etc... read more

I was a little surprised at how disrespectfully Dr. Kornmehl behaved during my appointment, asking leading questions and then acting disdainfully when I described my own unique vision experience. Apparently I did not fit into his plan. I went for a consultation with the goal of deciding where to follow up on a surgery that was done at Stanford. Cheap Fraud Scam Dr. Kornmehl. Ernest W. Kornmehl 54 Washington St. Wellesley, MA 02481 December 2011 It supposed to be a "FREE" Lasic consultation. Our daughter is wearing contacts and looking for the doctor to make a surgery. We've seen one doctor before and it was a nice experience. All the tests were done quickly and free. And everything was clearly explained. When we arrived to Dr. Kornmehl office, receptionist asked for insurance information "in case we need to perform a treatment". It was the first red flag, but I missed it. Then nurse took some tests and finally we're in the doctor's office and he is checking our daughter's eyes and looking at the test results. First of all, it's really difficult to understand him. He is mumbling something under his nose so fast that you can't catch it. He said that our daughter has "extremely dry eyes". We looked at her, but her eyes were looking normal, not red and she didn't feel any discomfort. She's seen her regular eye doctor and he never mentioned dry eyes. Previous Lasic doctor didn't say that either. Second red flag and I missed it too. Then he talked about the surgery and when we asked about the price, he said that he doesn't know (!) and we need to talk to his nurse. Come on! You are so above this world, that you don't know the price of your surgery? Another red flag. Nurse gave us the price and showed all the payment options and said that we need to see the doctor again before we leave. We went to the office and doctor again started speaking in his fast mumbling manner and while speaking he opened a bag with some "silicon plugging" stuff and quickly inserted two tiny seeds of it into our daughter's tears channels "to prevent tears from draining and help watering the eyes". It was done so quickly, we couldn't say a word. I was shocked about what just happened. And my wife and my daughter were shocked too. Then doctor said "good buy" and we went out of the room. In the corridor we were asking each other "what did just happen?" Daughter said that she doesn't feel discomfort in the eyes, but doesn't understand why he did the thing nobody asked him to do. At the reception desk I asked if they can remove that plugs because we didn't ask doctor to put them in and they tried to calm us down, saying - "yes, if you don't like it, they can be removed, but we all wearing them...". I told them that I am really upset that the doctor did it without even asking us. And then we left. A couple of weeks later I received from my insurance "explanation of benefits" for this visit. Guess what? It was $850 for SURGERY!!!! Yes, Dr. Kornmehl charged my insurance $850 for two silicon seeds he inserted in a blink of an eye. Not bad! I'd like to make money that fast! Now we have all the scam steps in place. 1. Give you "FREE" consultation to get you in and take your insurance data 2. Tell you that you have "extremely dry eyes and it very bad" 3. Take your attention away by mumbling a lot of words under the nose 4. Put the silicon plugs into your eyes (20 seconds at most) 5. Charge you $840 for SURGERY He is so cheap, his "FREE" consultation just a bait to get you into his office and rip you off. It's interesting how he's got his on-line reputation. If you search for reviews, they all are good. Actually I found only one negative review. Be aware! He's cheap and fraud. The only good thing about this visit - I am so happy that I am not going to let him do actual surgery. Igor Update February 2012 When I found that I've been billed for $850, I decided at least to get all the medical records and test results from the doctor. I get asked a lot where I had my Lasik eye surgery done (which was well over 10 years ago now, probably close to 15 years) and I always highly recommend Dr. Kornmehl, but have never taken the time to write a formal review. I have dry eye, so he took the time to make sure that was under control before doing the surgery. Surgery went well and my vision is great. A few years later when I was diagnosed with Lupus (unrelated to my surgery, of course) I was put on a medication that can build up in the retina of your eye. My rheumatologist recommended Dr. Kornmehl to do my eye exams, she said he's the absolute best in the business, so it was a no brainer to stay under his care. I drive over an hour, every 6 months to have him check my eyes for the medication build-up and I trust that I am in good hands. I even called another doctor closer to home once to see if they could do the exams (thinking I'd save myself the drive), but they had absolutely no clue what it even was! It was a reminder that having someone who knows their stuff when it comes to your vision is really important. I worry what will happen when he retires someday! ;) I can't imagine leaving the care of my vision to anyone else! read more

Surgery went very well for my husband. The doctor personally did all the pre- and post op. Only problem is that the fee we paid did not include 2 pre ops and any post ops. i was still billed for all those visits. that was not explained at all. and from what i know from my own lasik experience, all those office visits are usually included. but still this office bills every visit other than the surgery itself. when i called the office, they completely brushed me off. and asked me to send THEM the bill. read more

Took my mother to Dr. Kornmehl at the recommendation of a friend. Was seen by dr. Kornmehl for an incredibly short time. He was brusque and rude because my mother did not respond to his examination as quickly as he demanded. By the way, my mother is a bright, competent woman. Dr. Kornmehl appeared to be so busy and important that he could not take the time to provide my mother with a thorough eye evaluation. We were shuffled off to another physician who treated us with kindness, empathy and competence. Have no idea why the second physician chooses to work with a megalomaniac. My experience with Dr. Kornmehl and his staff was wonderful. Dr. Kornmehl is known as one of the best by his own peers, and my results proved that out. I had terrible eye sight and underwent PRK. It's been a month and my vision is excellent. No complications at all. Also, interestingly, my night driving is better than it was before! Also, before I decided to get corrective eye surgery, super dry eyes had plagued me for years, and I suffered allergies with little bumps on my eye lids; I had gone to two other specialists about that problem but it wasn't resolved. Dr. Kornmehl corrected this problem in 10 minutes with punctal plugs! If only I had found him years earlier! I highly recommend anyone considering eye surgery go no where else. read more
