My Airbnb was within walking distance and I am so happy I made time to try Koru out. I went solo for lunch between conference calls. I loved being able to sit and watch the chef make my order. I think I surprised them with how much pickled ginger I ate. LOL Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. The staff were all so fun. It seemed like everyone was one big happy family. I recommend for a nice lunch, date night, or even a solo lunch like me.

Visiting for a conference so went out to eat with my brother. My brother is very adamant that New Orleans struggles in the Asian food department but he was pleasantly surprised. The place is small. Went around dinner and was seated immediately, with option for table or at the bar. Got the koru roll, salmon crudo, and a few sushi a la carte. The fish is fresh and tender. We opted to get it dressed, so it came with oil dressing and toppings which was a nice addition. Overall, pricey but likely fair for New Orleans sushi. Sounds like my brother has some more options now!

Great place! Very nice and clean restaurant. Friendly and helpful service, not to mention the food was delicious and fresh. They also have off the menu specials, we tried the Koru bites...chefs kiss! They take reservations but there are not many tables.

Fish was incredibly fresh and service was attentive and quick. We went for lunch and sat at the counter so it was very cool to watch the chef make all kinds of sushi creations. Highly recommend the salmon sushi (I added chili crunch on top). I'm definitely interested in going back to try some other dishes.

I cannot believe this place was not packed! The ambience was perfect for an anniversary dinner and once we told Chef to do his thing every single piece of sushi he plated was excellent! I must say I cannot wait to go back there! Please do yourself a favor and treat yourself because we all deserve it!

There is a reason this chef has a cult following. Every bite was delectable. The perfect meal on this hot summer night. The staff is always helpful if you have any questions. It's a tiny spot, so make a reservation if you are coming at peak dinner time. Do your mouth a favor and get in here for some of the best sushi in the city.

Cute spot on a one way, good spot to go to after the bars in the area. A little pricey, admittedly some things are very cheap while others are priced too high for what they are. But everything is pretty good quality although I've found better quality elsewhere. Definitely somewhere you have to be strategic. Everything is delicious though and you can ask the chef to make you anything. Cute spot and definitely recommend

My favorite sushi restaurant in NOLA! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. It's always a great time when we come in. Gotta get the omakase!

2/5 Stars - Just Not It, Chief. Alright, y'all, I've been to my fair share of sushi spots, so when my sister mentioned Kuro Sushi, I figured, why not? Seemed like a decent spot to take my partner for their birthday dinner. We pulled up, ready to feast, hoping for a sushi experience that'd knock our socks off. Instead? More like a light tap on the shoulder--forgettable and kinda disappointing. We kicked things off with three appetizers: carpaccio, fried calamari, and seaweed salad. The carpaccio? Standard. Nothing to write home about, nothing to get excited over. Just... there. The calamari? Again, fine. No crunch that made me wanna do a happy dance, but it got the job done. Seaweed salad? Same story. Decent, but I could've gotten the same at any generic sushi joint. Now, let's talk sushi. We ordered salmon belly, toro, BBQ eel, halibut, and uni. I had hopes. I had dreams. And they were all crushed one bite at a time. * Salmon belly - Fine. Standard. Came with chili garlic oil, which I've seen a million times before. Not impressed. * Halibut - Tasted clean, but forgettable. Wouldn't order it again. * Toro - Meh. Nothing special. Also, the knife work? A little rough. Looked like it got handled by someone in a rush. * BBQ eel - Lukewarm. Didn't feel fresh. And if I'm eating eel, I want that fresh, slightly charred warmth. Disappointing. * Uni - This one hurt. I love uni when it's done right, and I've had my fair share. But this? NOPE. The second I caught that fishy, salty smell, I knew it wasn't gonna sit right with me. And when I tasted it? Yeah... I literally spat it out. No thank you. Overall? Kuro Sushi isn't the worst, but it's definitely not making my must-return list. With so many sushi spots out there, I need something that stands out, and this just wasn't it. If I'm craving good sushi, I'd rather go to Yakuza House or Daiwa, where I know I'm getting quality. Would I recommend this place? Not really. Maybe if someone else is paying, but even then... I'd hesitate.

I had a great experience at Koru. The service was good, both the server and sushi chef took time explaining dishes. It's a small spot, but worth trying. We got there right before a wave of people and sat at the sushi bar. I was super excited about trying the Japanese oyster special, but they ran out. Our food was fresh and came out in a timely manner. I ordered miso soup and beef tataki from the kitchen. We really like the beef tataki! It was presented well. We ordered yellow tail, smelt roe, a rainbow roll ($16), and the koru roll ($22) from the sushi bar. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The chili garlic and smelt roe gave the Kuro roll a nice pop. The bar had limited choices, so my cousin had difficulty finding something on the drink menu. She settled on a dirty martini; she said it was one of the best she's had. We also had 2 rounds of a hot sake. In true New Orleans fashion, the bad weather briefly knocked out their card payment system. They handed it with grace and patience. Shout out to the Koru team.

I had the best dining experience of my life at Koru. The food was phenomenal. Every bite had a different flavor and added a little something special. The sashimi was served in thick slices and melted in your mouth. The rolls created an experience in themselves and you can't leave without ordering the Fried Oreo ice cream. On top of that the service was incredible. Everyone seemed like they were actually happy to be at work and served with a smile on their faces. Our waters never ran dry. In fact, they never even got halfway empty and as someone who is constantly asking for a refill on water, this was a breath of fresh air. I honestly have nothing bad to say about this place and I definitely found my new favorite sushi place in the city.

    Koru roll

Went here for the first time and will most certainly be back! My experience here tonight gave me reason to reconsider what my #1 sushi spot in Nola is. Service was very attentive and friendly and everything we ordered was delicious and expertly crafted on all fronts--fresh with vibrant yet complimentary flavors. We tried the Koru roll, soft shell crab roll, blue crab roll, snow krab roll, spicy edamame, and clear soup. Standouts were the Koru roll and blue crab roll, but would get everything we tried again.

Kenji Omakase will be a new annual special occasion go to. Japanese Omakase experience and style, a one of a kind food experience where every course is a harmonious blend of flavors, textures and eye appeal. The sushi chef talks you through each course after he places it on you platter. I asked if these were supposed to be eaten by hand if you wanted to, he agreed most people traditionally eat these that way. The flavors were buttery and tangy, textures delicate and sometimes a small crunch with fried scallions etc. We had tuna, ocean trout that was Similar to salmon but a different shade of orange, scallops and finished with waygu beef. It was amazing with each course the flavors seem to improve. A great experience, if you are any type of sushi fan or even on the fence, this could easily make you a sushi lover. I give this a complete recommendation. Try Kenji you will be very happy you did. The ambiance was fun also traditional Japanese. I may have Mis-named a few photos but know they are all just incredible journeys across your palate, hard to describe, melting with texture and flavors.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure if I agree with the current ratings of 4.7 this place has (as of Feb 2,…read more2025.) To me, based on our experience tonight, it's none other than a super over-hyped sushi restaurant that only has a high end feel to it. Service: was decent. We arrived at the place 11 minutes before our reservation time of 5pm. Since my daughter works in the restaurant industry, as a politeness, we didn't go inside until 4:59pm even though one of the workers came to the door and unlocked it at 4:51pm. Once inside he knew we were the 5pm reservation. He was polite but somehow his whole demeanor lacked friendliness. Menu: Even though the drink menu was an actual physical one, the food menu is online. How strange. After scanning the QR code, we were hoping to see a good selection of food items. But to our surprise, the food menu is/was very small. Actually this place's main thing is nothing but "omakase" where if you choose to order from the a la cart section, the choices are so limited (we were here in town from Denver, CO. After eating some deep-fried stuff for the last few days, we felt that we were truly healthy food or salad depleted; just to clarify, we didn't show up to to this restaurant just to eat salad because after all, this is a sushi restaurant. We love sushi. And yet we were hoping for some decently sized salad. Unfortunately none is/was found on the menu. I even personally asked the guy to see if the sushi chef could whip up something but he gave me a nonchalant no.) We still believed this place could do some magical things so we ordered a bowl of miso soup, oyster tarter (lobster tarter replacement), tuna, salmon and yellowtail nigiris. Miso soup, for the price of $10, was extremely small. Also the entire soup was lukewarm to a point where the center of the small tofu pieces was still cold. Ugh... All the nirigis tasted fresh but I didn't care for the sweet sauce (mainly used for unagi/eel) on the salmon nigiri. Why?? I've never had a salmon nigiri prepared this way.) The only item that was impressive was the oyster tarter (not on the menu as this was the replacement item for the lobster tarter.) This was excellent where we could have easily ordered another one but at this point, we didn't want to spend anymore $$ as all items on the menu are not cheap here. We are a fan of yuzu. The only dessert item (once again, there is only one dessert on the menu) is yuzu tart or something like that. One of the sushi chefs informed us though that the online menu hadn't been quite updated for this so he said it would be a yuzu sponge cake type thing. We decided to give it a try. This, however, failed to impress us either as it was a very much average sponge cake, nothing more at all. We didn't order any drinks besides the water so the final bill was about $75 with some change. Well, tonight's overall experience of ours didn't justify this amount in any way possible. There was another sushi restaurant that had the similar ratings with similar location (when we searched it yesterday.) Maybe we should have chosen that one instead. Disappointed....

We started with cocktails which had fun twists in flavor. We ordered the Omakase and upgrade one fish dish to the Wagu beef ($50). I dug in, forgetting to take a photo. If the chef is reading reviews... switch the miso soup with a mini-ramen to give the meal more substance.

Greeted by hostess and wished me happy birthday while they were making some adjustments to my table, my table was giant, chandelier was nice japanese style, lighting was warm and i liked the big table as i always like to order lots of food with no budget at all, Server greeted us with smile and explained the drinks menu first took our drinks order and then gave us a food menu which also explained in english as some of the words were in japanese. Drinks came on time and food wise some appetizers came on time and some took way longer which is fine as long as food kept On coming thats all matters to me and my guest. Main course was hot and every presentation of the food was impressive and photogenic. I Liked the big rock ice cube with the restaurant logo on it. I ordered every dessert they had on menu and all of them were amazing. The only thing is i was expecting atleast 1 dessert complimentary since i spend $3000 and ordered everything on the menu that could have been a nice touch... order includes 2 sushi basket/platter where each sushi is $7-$10 so be careful when you buy sushi platter without looking at the price. We had two vegetarian guest and they were satisfied very well as the restaurant also had lots of options for vegetarians and other dietary needs.
