My son and I were looking for a good sushi bar to eat at and we found Okini Sushi Bar on Yelp. It's not far from my house so we decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad that we did! This place is like a little tucked away gem. I must've driven past it several times throughout the year and never even realized it was there. The atmosphere is nice, the staff are wonderful and welcoming, and the quality of the food was fresh. My son got the Alligator Roll and the Gyoza and I got the Alaska Roll and Metairie Roll. Friendly people! They are a small place, but their sushi was really fresh and flavorful! We got our food to go, and even though they went a few minutes over the time they expected with our food they were super apologetic. They threw in complimentary shrimp dumplings to our order to make up for it. You can tell it's a small family owned business. They deserve the hype! Will definitely be back!! Fairly new to River Ridge, previously further down Jefferson Highway . Fresh made, better than any of the other sushi restaurants near us. We've tried a few different sushi rolls. Monster roll, LSU roll , and today Okini /Mango Roll . The rolls are large and filling. My husband and I split the order and still had leftovers . It was delicious! We enjoyed two bottles of wine (BYOB for now) with our delicious dinner - the salmon nigiri with green onions, sriracha, and ponzu sauce is a must! It's an off-the-menu item so be sure to ask for it. The service was great. Both the servers and owners were nice. I went 30 minutes before closing time and ordered take out. I got my food within 15 minutes. It's a small place but the sushi was good. Definitely not in a location that stands out but is easy to find as you can see it on the main road Jefferson Hwy. The only thing that threw me off was the crunchy dynamite roll. It was different from any other sushi restaurants, their has Wasabi in it so it was a lot spicier and more intense than what I'm used to. So if that's not your thing, avoid it. The food is remarkable. They have a large list of rolls, sushi, and donburi to try from. They also have really tasty mochi ice cream for desserts. They serve Japanese beer in chilled mugs, which is a really nice throwback. Not to mention hot towels!! The service is pretty good too. The young woman who is the server does a really good job and you get to watch the chef make the sushi too. The spot is a bit small, but it's pretty charming and reminds me of the izakayas in Japan. Don't listen to first reviewer 1 star and is a shame some negative Nancy took the time to step on a business getting going in an area who desperately wants this restaurant. The owners made clear and kind enough to disclose on their website to expect a wait and no alcohol license yet since starting up. And besides worth the wait. I have never gave a review in my life and this restaurant Okini is my favorite new Japanese restaurant. And previously was my favorite Japanese restaurant (sake dons) which my family has enjoyed for years and got to know the same family who owns and runs this restaurant. Always gives smiles and will remember you and get to know you over time. And if you don't care about everything I just said the food is 10/10 amazing and if you don't like this restaurant then there is something wrong with you and don't leave a review. Haha. read more
