So I have heard about this place being so good for over a year by two people constantly and had a friend coming in so finally decided to come here and try this out for the first time . Place looks like Good service started of a bit pushy and zero smiles but that might just be them and the way they are . So most of the rolls were flavorless and needs the wasabi and soy. Then only one that was worth it and really good was the sushi sandwich . The 30$ toro was nothing special at all but it was fresh . The tuna crab dumplings were bitter and zero flavor what's so ever and whatever they put on top definitely was not needed . I would FOR SURE ANOTHER WASTE MY money coming back here again. And right after leaving the place the same person that recommended this place ran into me and also confirmed that they will not be coming back to this place after they ordered the food the night before for take out and were also very disappointed in consistency of it and flavors !! I enjoyed my experience at Kosan overall. The Queen Roll was really good and had a lot of flavor. The hibachi was good, but I think it could've used a little more shrimp because it tasted kind of bland and there were only a few pieces. The regular sushi rolls were also pretty small, so I wish the portions were a little bigger. Besides that, everything was fresh and enjoyable, and I'd definitely come back and try some other things on the menu. read more

This place is my favorite sushi spot. This is a staple place for me I am always craving their sushi whether I'm coming back from vacation and want something that I know will always taste good or go out with friends. They have such a large variety of options from specialty rolls to trendy Japanese foods. My absolute favorite dish here is the salmon belly on crust rice. The salmon literally melts in your mouth and it has avocado on top with a nice crunch topping. The flavors perfectly blend together and it's the best thing ever. The salmon mango salsa is also amazing it is like nicely cooked and the fish is so fresh everytime with the most heavenly sauce. For kids who are picky the have "chicken nuggets" (they aren't called that but I refer to them as chicken nuggets) which is bascailly just fried chicken that even the pickiest person would enjoy. The fried rice also hits every time. Even being such a simple dish, it is so good. The kani salad is also really good and I do not like kani salad everywhere. The Brianna roll is also so good, the combination of flavors is so unbelievers good. They also have a variety of crispy rice options for those tuna crispy rice lovers. The rice is perfectly crispy with finely chopped tuna. Moreover, the service is always amazing the waiters are always so sweet and really try and work hard. The manager, Jessie, is such a sweet heart and makes us feel so welcomed and at home every time we come there. The ambiance is also modern and versatile. You can wear sweatpants if you're in a lazy mood or nice pants if you're in a dressier mood. I highly recommend this place for all the sushi and Asian fusion lovers! read more

Typical casual Brooklyn sushi spot with decent quality fish and good service. I also liked that they have private rooms towards to back if you have a bigger room or event. We shared appetizers and sushi - wok charred edamame (5/5), Kani salad (4/5), salmon belly crispy sushi (4/5), kabuki roll (10/5!), fancy toro roll (5/5), sizzling lover roll (4/5). We generally enjoyed everything but the stand out items were the wok charred edamame because of the rich miso flavor and the kabuki and fancy toro rolls - both fantastic combinations and fresh. I wanted to give this place another try. Try different things on the menu. Pork gyoza was good. I reordered the dancing eel roll which was just as good as before. I also tried the $12 waygu sushi piece. It was not seared so honestly it didn't really taste like anything. Apparently they will sear it for you if you tell them... so I might try that next time. I also got an order of ramen with chashu. I have previously ordered ramen and I usually eat the pasta and meat and leave the broth.... I gotta admit the broth was delicious and I drank it all. The pork was good if cut a bit thin. Will definitely come back for more of that. Decent sushi/ramen place just gotta steer clear of the duck. PS. Service was better. I had a wonderful time at this new restaurant on Wednesday! We got there around 7 and it was pretty quiet. But the decor is so beautiful and I love the coziness mixed with elegance. I went to this place several times and every time it was a disaster. Yesterday we had a reservation for 7 pm. At 7:20 I was told that we have to wait at least another 20 minutes. Waiting for a table for 40 minutes with reservations!!!! We just turned around and went to another place across the street and enjoyed it very much. We tried Kosan before. The most interesting item I tried was the crispy duck roll. I liked the fusion of various East Asian influences. Kosan Asian Fusion just recently opened in the heart of Sheepshead Bay Road. It is no secret there are plenty of sushi restaurants on this street; however, Kosan has really shown they stand out. The restaurant itself is tastefully furnished and the private rooms will be a hit for future events. The food was extremely fresh and flavorful. Didn't expect much when we walked in and were in the mood for some hot soup. We ordered chicken curry soup to try and it was very good for a winter rainy evening, spicy, and flavorful. The sushi pieces that we ordered were also very fresh (spicy salmon hand roll), and eel hand roll to try, so we then ordered crispy sushi, which was unique and delicious. We never tasted crispy sushi anywhere before, although we ate lots of different sushi in many places. You can taste the fire on the rice and the fish on top of the rice is delicious. We tried a salad also, and I must say this chef put a lot of detail into the salad. We also tried green tea cake for dessert and it was not too sweet, which I liked. The ambiance: In terms of the atmosphere, we could tell that whoever built it, put a lot of thought into it. The bathroom sink had a gold swan for a faucet, and the tile on the wall leaked with a line of gold on brownish surface. It was clean, and new. As one steps out of the bathroom, my eye caught blue velvet seats next to tables and very comfortable and cozy atmosphere. The owners put a lot of effort into design. Happened upon this new establishment on a search for some New Year's Eve eats. I found them on Yelp, made a call to see if they had space for a party of 5 within 15 minutes and the host said "come on over". It was such a pleasant surprise. The interior of this restaurant is chic and airy. The female host that greeted us was lovely and exuded great energy with a big smile on her face. My family and I ordered sushi, ramen bowls and their chicken katsu which were very delicious. Our waitress was also super nice and attentive. I was pleasantly surprised that for such a new place they were so organized and the food amazing straight off! Every other customer coming in, was doing the same thing. My husband and I were not bothered by the slight cool air that came in every time the door opened and closed. The complaints from every customer made our dining in experience less enjoyable. Nonetheless, the food was great. We ordered the Blue crab tortilla, two special rolls and two hand rolls. They were all amazing, and tasted fresh. The only problem was with the staff, they are a bit unorganized. They are super nice but they don't have assigned sections in the restaurant. So this creates hectic work environment. We had multiple waiters ask for our order and beverage, in which we kept repeating, someone took our order already. While I understand that this a brand new place and am all for supporting small local businesses, have to be honest with my review so other potential new customers could learn from my experience and business owner took a few notes and hopefully improve the product that they're presenting. 1st major issue was an extremely long, almost 2 hours, wait for delivery while originally ETA was only 45 minutes. We took into consideration that the order was placed on a holiday and patiently waited for over an hour, then called the restaurant and were told that the delivery person is coming up shortly, but in reality it took another hour for him to finally deliver our order. 2nd issue was with food-Simple Kani Salad is significantly more expensive here than at multiple neighboring sushi joints because Kosan supposedly gives customer a choice of either real crab meat or imitation, so by picking "real" crab one can assume that he/she is getting a salad with real crab but that assumption is incorrect because we got an average kani salad made with imitation not real crab, cucumbers&mayo which tasted very bland and unimpressive Kosan sandwich, which we were really excited about, wasn't very tasty as it contained lox that was too salty and had an extremely intense smoke aroma which totally overpowered all other ingredients such as spicy salmon, kani & avocado and since there was no sauce to balance the flavors with, all you can taste was salty smokiness which wasn't enjoyable at all The other 2 rolls-Godzilla and Dancing Eel were mediocre and not memorable in any way. The whole experience was a bit disappointing and left a lot of room for improvement-like all decent food requires quality ingredients, a unique flavor and delectable sauces, but unfortunately rolls by Kosan offer none of the above. read more

This is such a small place that I would have missed out on had it not been for yelp. You walk in and realize that though it is narrow, it does stretch back pretty far and there is even a private area in the back for a small party. It is a cute place with very simple decor. Music is playing however it is neither too loud or too low, so you can enjoy it and also have conversation as well. You are immediately greeted by the waitress, the owner, and even the sushi chefs. The menu is plentiful and there is something for everyone whether they like sushi or not. The drink menu was also impressive as well. Every dish I ordered was so beautiful and delicious. It's a feast for your eyes, nose, and stomach. For appetizers my husband and I had the rock shrimp, blue crab and tuna dumplings, and takoyaki. They were all fresh, cooked perfectly, and plated beautifully. We then ordered some sushi rolls: the Godzilla, Dancing Eel, and Jungle beast. Our favorite was the Godzilla but honestly all 3 were excellent and I was shocked at how big they were. We also ordered 2 entrees which we ended up taking home along with half of the rolls because we were stuffed. I got the seafood udon which once again was plated beautifully and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the Chilean sea bass and I was jealous, it was a perfectly cooked filet in a creamy coconut sauce with just a hint of pepper. The waitress was very speedy and friendly, and the owner was also very friendly and attentive to all of the customers. I can see that service and quality is important to the owner.
