Truth - I hate to be a complainer but I got to say how it is! *Price for the sushi sashimi lunch combo (see photo) was 17 dollars - not including tax or tip. It included a small miso soup. * Menu selections offered - Would have liked more menu options. Several sushi restaurants in the city offer a wider variety & selection under the lunch menu section; hamachi was not included in the sushi & sashimi lunch special. *Delivery - not great at all ! Took a long time, said delivered but no food arrived. The entire lunch order went missing - turned out it was dropped off at the wrong address (not sure why). Luckily I was able to use the app to locate the bag of food & it's cold as a refrigerator outside. They had a hibachi lunch option and I kind of wish I'd gone with that instead. Was expecting more based upon the five star reviews both on Yelp & Google. Could be better in person or dinner. I went with delivery to sample/ try out the food. Bay Ridge is far and this was a way to see if I want to commit to the time to travel there in person. We wanted to give a new sushi place a try, and we decided to order through Uber Eats, and noticed this place had buy 1, get 1 free promos on their menu, so we decided why not. We ordered the Brooklyn roll for the B1G1, and their Volcano roll. The rolls were MASSIVE and you could tell these are definitely Americanized sushi rolls. The flavors were decent and there was a nice spicy kick in the Volcano roll that hit towards the end of a bite. I was nicely surprised with that! Sushi from here is average at best; not the worst I've ever had and it's definitely not the freshest either, sadly. Food was delivered promptly and their presentation was very nice. Establishment is beautiful yet casual and service was wonderful. There's one woman handling the front of the house and the dining room, and she did a beautiful job. The tea was delicious, as well. Food was 'Meh'. The Avocado crab salad - skimpy on the avocado (one beautiful, skinny line of avocado slices as a border to hold fields greens, topped with about 1/4cup of crab, shredded). The Beef Negimaki - waaaay over stuffed with scallions; so stuffed that it was all I tasted. The Sushi Rolls - some were okay, some were 'meh'. Today I tried their stir fried shrimp udon noodles, and the seasoning was so delicious! Shrimp was cooked perfectly! Dragon ball appetizer is a good size and came looking as delicious as it tasted. Their quality of food is consistent and well presented. The prices are highly competitive and lean towards the more expensive side in comparison but it's nothing outrageous and they certainly uphold their standards. Bay Ridge has a perennial favorite in Shobu... The servers recognized me and my lady upon our second visit even though it was months between visits... In Brooklyn that is some feat... The sake flows like water and attractive rolls are garnished in fried leeks and tobiko, not heavy mayo based sauces. I am impressed with the attentive service... The big three tuna, salmon and yellow tail are always bright and fresh. The only fault I have found here is that they are not as generous with the portions of fish as I would like. read more

While it lacks the bar and late scene of Fushimi (which is nearly right across the street), Shobu delivered creative, high quality dishes at a very reasonable price. Last time I ate at Fushimi I was disappointed to find portions had shrunk and price had gone higher. Shobu delivers excellent , attentive, well timed service and really good food. I don't know how long this place has been here but it has been at least 7 years. That alone should let you know that it is pretty good since it withstood the test of time. As with all sushi places, the price can be a bit steep. However, I really had a hankering for sushi so planned to have a late lunch one day. I wandered in at about 3:45pm and was very pleasantly surprised to find that their lunch specials run until 4:00pm. For $11.50 (and of course, that price may change in the future but it likely won't jump too high), you can order three rolls and you also get a small salad or miso soup. Since not all rolls are designed for all pallets, this is an awesome way to experiment. One of the biggest downsides to this place is that it is closed on Tuesdays. This place is a good choice (especially during lunch). I give it my seal of approval. read more

We ordered delivery last night after clarifying which chefs special sauces have gluten (soy or eel sauce) and requesting those and the crunch (I still am not sure what this is made of!) on the side. We ordered Christmas and summer special rolls and a pad Thai with shrimp (which is not made with gluten traditionally). When they arrived the Christmas roll still had mayo sauce and a dark sauce on top, I called to clarify to which they told me they "fire the mayo" so I guess it's burnt bits? Anyways- I ate the rolls and they tasted fresh. The pad Thai was awful- it was sticky, dry and no longer hot and it was clear the shrimp and tofu were fried. Which is not how the dish is made, sautéed I would be fine, fried means cross contamination with gluten fried foods. I gave 2 stars bc the sushi was good but I am riddled with symptoms this morning meaning I had gluten, and not just in a small amount. Thanks Shobu, I really appreciate it! :-( read more

The sushi is just amazing, so fresh and the flavors are like no other. Can't find sushi like this in all of the 5 boroughs, not exaggerating. Can't wait until I go back and try moreeeeeee! And the lychee and calpico martinis were pretty yumm too! Sweet and not too strong and decently priced. I went back a second time to try their chicken teriyaki, mochi, and fried ice cream! I've been going back and forth on whether to give Shobu 4 or 5 stars...i think i'll leave it blank until i'm finished writing the review. Shobu has fantastic sushi, it's a small place at an awkward intersection in Bay Ridge that can easily be missed. So i say you are the lucky one if you find it. At the time, my last sushi experience in Bay Ridge was a disaster, so i had high hopes that Shobu would erase a bad memory and it definitely did. The place is not very big and probably had about 12 tables that can seat 2-4 people each. Modern dark wood finish with quilts and other homeland statues throughout created an authentic Japanese feel. Ordered the 3 roll lunch special which came with miso soup and cost $9, got one avocado roll, one spicy salmon and one spicy shrimp and enjoyed them immensely. Yes, the avocado roll is a little on the small side, but it's not so dramatic where is would make me upset. The avocado was tasty, the rice was done right and the nori was not rubber which is all that matters. On top of my tasy rolls i splurged and went for a $12 "American Dream" roll that was being advertised separately on the table. All i can say is my mouth was happy with all the different flavors. Salmon, eel, avocado, cucumber, cream cheese, kani, mango and special sauces all came together perfectly. Our server was very nice and talked to us for a bit, making sure we were satisfied with the food and asking if it was our first time there and where we were from. At the end of the meal she said she hoped we would come back and told us about an outdoor area they have which is opening as soon as the weather is nice. Now that i'm reading back what i experienced i'm going with 5 stars, in Bay Ridge this is as good as it gets! You can go up the block to Fushimi and have a loungy good time but you won't have any money at the end of your stay and that is a different type of expereince anyway.
