Bad experience from workers ruined our roof by making wrong holes and causing leaks damage! If you have good experience with them, you are lucky but I am not lucky! Starting with workers made wrong several holes on our roof and said no worries, said no Leaks for sure! A week after the rain, water leaked through hole in my bedroom and living room! We emailed the company and no response but finally emailed the CEO, got quick response and worker came right away to fix with an upset mood! I noticed they were so rough and not gentle at all during the time they worked on the roof. Maybe it had to be that way but I noticed that and worried. Next, workers came to continue work and 1-2 weeks after of rain, there are water leaks through my roof and my wall! I suggest you choose the company that your family or friends or neighbors used before. I'm so disappointed with the workers from this company because it caused us long term damage to fix the wall now and we moved to this house a year ago with no issues until they came to settle the solar panel. So it's been more than 3 weeks since this review and COUNTLESS calls and emails and still nothing. 10 days ago Jared said he had a contractor then ghosted us again. My favorite was when my husband included the owner , Cole on a text and he responded "who is this please? I'll get right on it". We both responded to him (as well as several emails and calls to him) and CRICKETS. We are hoping SDGE will save us from this situation as our NEM 2.0 permit is with them and is not supposed to be transferred to another contractor. It comes down to them leaving us completely high and dry because they supposedly can't find a roofer to fulfill the contract for the price they promised. They don't want to eat an additional penny so they are ignoring us, clearly on the directive of the owner and managers. read more

I'm loath to write negative reviews of companies. But Kota deserves a one-star rating for ghosting us after putting a hole in our roof. Last fall, Kota installed solar panels on our roof. The company has acknowledged that its faulty installation caused leaks. It tarped the area, to its credit. But since then, the company has refused to set a date to fix the roof and repair the damage. As rain continues to fall, the damage has accrued. Kota has ignored emails and phone calls for a month, despite its clear obligations. Based on the contract (subsections workmanship warranty, roof penetration warranty and repairs), Kota must pay for the repairs or do them itself. "If we damage your home or belongings, we will repair the damages we cause or pay you for the damages we cause," the contract states. Stay away. Kota will be responsive during sales and installation, but won't take responsibility for any issues that arise. We are planning to sue the company and challenge its license with regulators. read more

Not recommended Very disappointing experience with KOTA Energy, no engage at all to help you to complete your project, it's been 8 months since I signed with them, so far, they have not been able to complete the installation, it looks like they don't have experience dealing with the HOA. I would not recommend...Unprofessional, blasting music on the roof!!! Crew was careless, broke all the tiles on part of my roof, they removed ~ 50 Tiles where they installed the solar; they ended up breaking most of them as one of the installers was monkeying around dropped one of the panel and broke all but 3-tiles. The system 3.2Kw has been installed for 3-weeks now and have contacted Kota several times regarding the panel which fell of the roof (it is not generating as much as the other ones by 1/2 production) and they have not scheduled any one as of yet to replace. The Kota 3.2Kw system is generating no more than the 2.5Kw system which was installed by the builder. They were supposed to paint conduit to match color of house; I have more paint on my new concrete than on the Conduit, poor workmanship read more

Our system was completed two weeks ago and we are very happy with the whole project. The initial sales person was aggressive but charming. His knowledge of solar and determining our needs was spot on and the price was right. A number of financing packages were offered and we accepted the best fit. The contract turned into a project and the whole Kota organization was professional and personable. Schedule was was formalized with the step by step plan shared with us. It was one stop deal, Kota took care of the city permits and SDGE applications. They even took care of the $134 SDGE transfer fee without sharing that info with us. Installation was amazingly fast considering the required effort to install on a 2-story building with a tile roof to an older electrical panel. The crew was careful with the landscaping and the clean up was great. Had a small software glitch in the monitoring software and it was corrected in a timely fashion. The panels and equipment are top of the line as far I can tell. Kota resources in knowledgeable people and assets was another reason to select them with the feeling that they will be here for the long term. read more

Stay away from this company! To start, they promote a low monthly price with the assumption that you were going to submit your solar and your new roof for a tax rebate. You're only allowed to submit the solar portion of your project for a rebate. Thus, your monthly payment will wind up being higher than advertised. It's a bait and switch scheme. I tried calling them to address this after I found out I cannot submit the roof, they told me "our other clients do it all the time, they submit it as one big package.". So they are basically profiting from their clients committing tax fraud. That was just the icing on the cake. The solar installation process was a joke. They have no project manager onsite for quality control, no internal inspectors either. I had to go on my roof to inspect daily. I'm glad I did because I found many issues that needed attention along the way. The roof leaked during the first rainstorm. They returned to fix it, but it leaked again. They had to send another guy to repair the leaking roof again. This time needing to repair a whole section. He replaced the section with different colored roofs my material! Now my new roof looked patched. I had to complain again to get them to match the colors. They also ran the ground wire, a thick copper wire along the front of the house. Visible to anyone entering my house! I had ti suggest other options!?! They also pulled my solar tubes out of the house completely without any plan to enter my house to replace them. They left my gutters filled with trash as well. I can go on and on. Just stay away from them. I will be seeing them in small claims court I would hate to see you there too. read more

Where to start. Unprofessional every step of the way. From missed appointments to cutting power without warning, leaving debris all over the parking area (screws, trash, water bottles, etc). Once they entered the condo with a key left for them, and left with the front door and security gate wide open and my Samsung vacuum was outside. Tried to conceal the fact that an interior glass light fixture was shattered, by discarding it and saying nothing. Very poor orchestration of contractors to say the least. They do have nice looking fleet vehicles, and everything looks professional enough on the surface. But employees/contractors aren't vetted/trained in customer service. They've all just been like robots without emotion. Had an incident after install and had no idea which breakers worked and which didn't because they'd not labeled anything (not even the legal minimum labeling). They did finally add a few of the mandatory labels a month or so after inspections had passed. (Don't ask me how it passed without proper labeling). Most recently a technician caused half of the power to shut down but claimed he didn't do anything, and argued the point. It's a little concerning when they don't understand why the system they installed does certain things. This happened again a few days later, a technician was installing the "emergency stop" and whatever he did caused my equipment to lose power... he said he didn't do anything that would cause this, then later admitted that the power would be off until he finished installing the emergency stop. At the end of the day, about 2/3 of the condo electric is running through solar, the remainder still comes from SDG&E. If you do use them, be prepared to micromanage if you want it done right. Reminds me of the meme that says "you're welcome! It's the least I could do! I always do the least I can do!" It looks like there are many others who had better experiences. So at least it appears my experience is an exception and not the rule. read more

Our project with KOTA is rough.... We're over-budget, way late on our schedule and I had to babysit KOTA so they'll actually show up to the inspections they scheduled and the building inspectors and fire chiefs don't hate us for working with them. Our solar project was scheduled to be done within a month with 2 days for installation and then inspections. We are now 7 months into the project, 9 days for installation, they no-showed 4 inspections and failed 2 more inspections. We finally just passed our final inspection and are now waiting for our Permission to Operate (PTO). Since the timeline was slipping, KOTA assured us in writing that they have a policy where they would not process our financing until we had PTO and if we were going to be charged, they were going to cover it. They did not live up to their word on this side either. For the past 4 months, not only are we still paying for our electricity, we're also being charged for our equipment and financing costs. What probably happened is that when the NEM 2.0 was getting phased out, solar projects were plentiful and KOTA got greedy and took as many as they could get. They were stretched thin and I ended up paying for it and having to juggle my own budget and work schedule to manage this project. I'm hopeful that KOTA is fair and will make my situation whole, but not expecting it based on the track record. I'll just be relieved when PTO comes in and can finally be done with this project. read more

BEWARE!!! Kota is not a reputable company. They have ghosted me on completion without final inspection, and damaged our skylight and will not repair. They promised that our new roof install, with their subcontractor, would be able to be claimed on our energy credit, but that is not the truth, to sell us on lower payments when we applied the credit. I am giving them a 2 star review for the non responsiveness of the company. All of sudden my salesperson is mia, don't know if he is still with the company or not since his emails go unanswered and there is no response to phone calls. He might have left the company.... hmmm. When I call the company, there is never an agent that answers and a recording states I am next in line and then a recorded message states no one is available to answer the call. Well, it is unnerving that I chose went with this poor responsive company. I would not recommend them. There were delays and mishaps that occurred and I wanted reimbursement for charges incurred due to their errors and of course NO RESPONSE. I have been waiting for information on rebate for my batter, which by the way was installed incorrectly and had to have them come out to amend/correct, which I am glad, it's just the ghosting that has me. Before going with them I would definitely read all these reviews. They have a poor response record, a high damage and poor install rate, and their customer service is definitely lacking overall. was shopping for solar for quite some time. got quotes from all the big name companies. actually signed a contract with sun run and was told it would take 2 months from contract signature to install. 6 months later and nothing so i cancelled with them. fast forward to a year later when i met with Kota Energy energy sales rep sean. he addressed all my needs and pricing was competitive. signed contracts shortly after. they got moving right away. his install team was very communicative along the way. from contract signing to panels being operational was about 3 months of llwhich was even shorter than expected. the install looks better than any other solar projects in my neighborhood. i definitely won't miss paying the huge SCE bills. get solar!! and get it with these guys read more

Where do I start? I wish I would have looked at reviews before we moved forward with Kota. A co-worker at the time had used Kota and recommended them to many co-workers and two of us listened. I thought I trusted the opinion of this co-worker, but I should have known better. Both my husband and I, and our other co-worker who took the advice to work with Kota, had nothing but bad experiences throughout the whole process. The sales team didn't investigate our roof enough and then learned it would cost more than we signed up for and tried to tell us, but we stood our ground and told them that was on them and we weren't paying. The actual roofing work when finished, seems to be the best part of the whole thing. Before our roofing started, we found out from our co-worker that Kota had not paid the roofer and a lien was going to be put on his house. We discussed this with our sales person and wanted to ensure we would not have the same issues and were assured it would not happen. Well.....here we are many months later (we finished late last summer) and come to find out Kota still hasn't paid the roofer all the way and now he has no leverage to get paid because too much time has passed. Communication was always poor and scheduling of everything was not great. The whole time I just felt like we made a bad decision. Overall are we happy we have solar, yes, but if we could do all over would we, yes! This is not a reputable company and poor ethics and business practices. Turns out the roofer for our house is not the only sub waiting to be paid. There are tons of people still waiting to be paid and I don't think it will ever happen at this point! I never buy anything from door-to-door sales reps. However, Joey was so polite and kind that I scheduled him to come in. On the appointment date, he was out with a medical condition so he sent Ryan in his place. As a professional salesperson who has been in sales for over 40 years at C Suite selling levels, I can share that Ryan is OUTSTANDING! We did the deal and EVERYONE at KOTA has been tremendous. The installers were tremendous and worked their tails off and installed 30 panels in a very long day and a couple of hours the next day. Everything is ready to rock and roll and we are scheduled for inspection next week to go live. I cannot recommend this company more! They have communicated tremendously and they care.
