I had a terrible experience with Kouder electric. I scheduled an appointment for them to come and fix an electrical issue in my business, but they never showed up. I waited for days and tried calling/texting them multiple times, but no one came. To make matters worse, they had already charged for the service before even coming out. It's extremely disappointing and unprofessional to take my money without providing the service they promised. Please stay away from this trailer park trash "business "!!! I should have read the reviews first. I had an electrical problem in one of our bedrooms. I called at 8 AM and was told he'd be right over. So, we didn't start breakfast because of what he said. I called him back at 11:am asking where he is because we didn't want to be eating when he showed up. David said go ahead and eat. So glad we did he showed up around 1:30 fixed the problem charged 80.00. I asked about adding power for the garage. Quoted me 400.00 and will be back by the end of this week, I asked him if he wanted to make an appointment write it down. He said no I'll remember it. We waited for the rest of the week and he didn't show up at all. I ran pipes to the other side of the garage and everything that he instructed me to do. We were having a heater installed and he told me exactly where to put it basically so it's easier for him to do the wiring, so it was nice and close to the junction box, I had everything set up for him. He didn't show up that week didn't call the next Monday I had it all set up ready to do everything myself, but Monday he texted me and said Hey mike nothing else. He calls said he will be out. When he showed up, I showed him everything I set up. In the middle of working in the garage he is on the phone with a lady, she is dropping the "F Bomb" every few seconds. After he gets off the phone I asked " is that your wife?" No just his office partner. He went in to switch on the power and I hear a Big Poof and smell burning wires. I tell him about it looked but didn't touch anything. He's done I pay him, and he tells me I have to go out and buy the cover plate to cover the exposed wires. I bought the cover and as soon as I get to the box. Poof it happens again. I call Dave back up and he said he is with a customer right now I will call you right back (fri 4:22) No call Saturday no call So we go chasing after him again we call. I'll be out Sunday 8:am I get up at 7am waiting waiting gets to 8:30 still a no show. He went to his girlfriend's house in Chicago and stayed overnight. We live in Indiana. This is the 3rd set up and no show. Asked him to bring receipts for his last 2 visits. Didn't bring them. I gave him all my info for the receipt. Said he would have his office email it to us on Monday. Didn't happen. we had to call them to get it again. My wife looked up the brick and mortar of their location. It ended up being a Mexican restaurant. His website is off. He had my wife resend all the information that we already sent for the receipt again. She asked him to text him when it's done. We had 3 issues. 1 no power to an outlet in the garage. 2 we purchased a smoker and it kept blowing the gfi (whatever that means) and 3 we had no power in the back part of it home. I don't generally leave bad reviews for companies, because businesses make mistakes, and humans aren't perfect. However, when a business makes no attempt to rectify problems they cause, and completely screws over their customers, I feel compelled to warn those I care about from ever doing business with them. I would steer anyone interested in professionalism and quality away from Kouder Electric (out of Portage). I hired them 3 months ago to perform a trim and paint project at my primary residence, and a massive project at a rental property. I paid them to begin the construction, and then everything went bad quickly. They went through THREE project managers in that period of time, and the owner went out of his way to not address any of the issues they left behind. The trim and paint project (paint-prep done improperly, no drop cloths/floor protection on brand new vinyl tile while trim work being done) stopped half way through and then abandoned. Workers stopped showing up altogether. Owner didn't have a paint sprayer and had to buy one for my job (yet they have a painting crew?) The rental property saw a rotating door of workers with little experience, some clearly under the influence, and that project was abandoned as well ("because he didn't want to lose money"). I was provided an estimate for that work (by the first Project Manager, now no longer with the company), and the owner reneged on that price after eventually learning of it, demanding more money. I agreed to a $1,500 increase (with the second Project Manager, now no longer with the company), to help them with what he said was a low estimate, the work continued briefly, and the owner reneged AGAIN. He sent a THIRD Project Manager (you guessed it, now gone) to ask for an additional $5,000, or they wouldn't return. Left my house demolished, gutted, and still vacant with no renter after getting strung along by an absentee owner for 3 months. Do yourselves a favor. Find someone else, and ensure those you care about do the same. read more

July 2016, we hired Dave of Kouder Electric to put 15 LED can lights in and install our foyer light with a dimmer switch (also led). They were also suppose to make the outlets that were connected to the lights to be permanently on/hot so that we can operate other things like vacuums without having to turn the lights on in order to have the outlets work. Result: We can't use our foyer light without looking like we're hosting a rave party because they strobe 9 times out of 10. Lucky we're a healthy family or that thing could be seizure causing. Our outlets are NOT permanently on/hot so when we vacuum in the middle of the day, we still need to turn on our lights. We have TRIED SOOOOO many times to get him to come out to resolve the issues and after a year, it's STILL not fixed. Most of the time he doesn't answer his phone or texts, when he does and says that he'll show....he doesn't. The most recent being that he said he'll get some guys to fix it on June 13th at 9am. No one showed or called. I called and after multiple attempts he answers at 9:43am and said that I'm still on the schedule but his guys have to go to Chicago to pick up ladders and it'll take about 2 hours before getting to me. At first I was ok with it because I forgot I had meeting out of the home from 12:30 - 2:30pm. I called the office line and asked if I could be rescheduled to 3pm. They couldn't do it but the secretary promised that the guys will be out today (Wednesday June 14 from 8-9am). AGAIN no show and no call. What a shock right? I called Dave on his private line and business line a number of times: 8:48am (he responds by text, "Sorry, I'm on a call right now."), 9:14am (he responds by texted, "Can't talk, Call you in 15 minutes"), 9:43am (I left a message), and 10:03am. It's 12pm now and still nothing. I also texted "The guy still hasn't shown. Are they still coming today?" at 8:50am *crickets* Did I mention he has my tape measure? Not that I can't afford to replace it but it's the principle of things especially all that's NOT happening at that moment. LESSON: If you have all the time in the world to chase around a guy who's non-responsive, undependable, and does ok work that may need fixing but it may never get fixed, Kouder Electric is your go to then.
