We go here often mostly for breakfast, but have had lunch and dinner. It is a great local spot. We try to avoid on the weekends, bc it can get busy. The food is good! The buttermilk pancakes are delicious, the bacon cooked just right! The burgers are great, like homemade burgers should be & their sweet tea is so good. Their fish fry dinner with all the fixings is good, but I don't care for fried fish, so mostly we go for the breakfast. The ambiance is quaint. It's decorated with Dollar Tree flowers and finds for the holidays, but it fits the place. It used to be a Whataburger in the 60's/70's from what I can remember as a kid. We try to be supportive of local businesses, but this was my second visit (I forgot to review the first time) and I am done. Our first visit was for dinner, and we were 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant. I ordered chicken, and when it was given to me, I cut it and blood came running out. Have to admit I was repulsed, and even though they re-cooked it, I had a hard time eating. Yesterday we stopped for breakfast and the place was packed. Took over 10 minutes just to get coffee. I ordered the special: eggs Benedict. I should have know when the server asked how I wanted the eggs cooked and if I wanted toast, that something would go wrong. After waiting 35 minutes, my husband's food was delivered, but mine hadn't even been prepared yet. His pancakes were cold, he was missing bacon, and our server was no where to be found. My meal finally came and was at least hot. The eggs were poached well, but the hollandaise sauce wasn't great. My husband continued to have issues with his meal and we could hear other patrons complaining about the food. They took his meal and our coffee off the bill, but it was a lousy experience, not to be repeated. read more

This is a nice little mom and pops spot. It is definitely a hidden gem. The place gets crowded, however, it doesn't delay your food. The servers are always pleasant. The restaurant is clean. The parking lot needs some attention as it is uneven. The food tastes great and is always fresh. The prices are reasonable and the menu has great options. Whether you're craving meatloaf , a sandwich, or breakfast; this restaurant has something for your tastebuds. The pork chop breakfast is my favorite. There is also a $5 before 11AM breakfast. I wanted to give this more stars when I first came in but with no a/c it's hard to do. Today probably cost another star since they haven't had A/C for the past 3 days. It's been grueling to wait extra time due to staff shortages and to try to sit and eat in humidity while you sweat. We came at 11am for I'm pretty sure they won't stay open too long so long as the days keep reaching 90 degrees. They also don't have enough condiments like ketchup, hot sauce, or syrup aside form the 2 bottles of each shared between 15 tables or so. Service from the kitchen or the communication from the server to the kitchen has a variety of problems from food items missing, cook instructions not followed, cold food, and not enough wait staff to handle this place when tables are full. I have the best tip that will improve the visit for us it's asking for Carol, she really does work hard to check on you and fix any problems. She is running all over the place trying to get to each table. Probably best to come during off hours when 1 server might only have 1-4 tables, if you don't have a lot of time or patient or don't want to sweat lol and maybe stay away from weekends or brunch hours. read more

Finally open for business under new ownership and new name. Great locally owned and operated eatery that serves tasty homemade style meals. The portion sizes are ample, the food is priced right, good selection on the menu, lots of parking, open very early in the morning, and friendly staff. The place looks nice inside and was kept clean and tables cleared and cleaned as quickly as possible. I ordered the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and salad for about $12. I did not have a long wait, and for being a gran opening, things seemed to flow pretty smooth, as the place was busy and a bit hectic. The staff remained friendly and kept my ice water filled for me as needed, and the check came on time, with minimal wait time. The salmon tasted good and the taters were hot and as expected, and the salad, well it was lettuce and just a salad, ha, not a favorite but was fine to eat. I will be back to try many other items on the menu and they offer a big selection of Al a carte items to choose from if you want a wider selection that what comes with your order. Name changed from Kountry Korner to Barbara's Family Restaurant. Ownership remains the same, they just wanted reflect family dining. A small mom and pop restaurant with 7 booths and 8 tables. Breakfast crowd on Saturday but didn't wait long for a table. Bathroom is outside in the back and accessible from the side door in the dining room. Our Server, Lydia, arrived promptly and took our order. We ordered breakfast and was served within 10 minutes. They also serve beer and wine, which is unusual for a breakfast (lol) but fits better with their lunch and dinner crowd. Menu is 1 page breakfast, The rest is lunch/dinner featuring burgers, seafood and specialty sandwiches. You have to ask for the beer and wine list. We added this restaurant to our favorites list for our regular weekend breakfast tradition. read more

I love grease spoons. (Diners) They are simple, comfy, typically cheap, and have decent portions. Not the best food, but typically ok. This place SUCKS. Really big time. It's a real shame because I've always been near a good diner, but since moving to Ruskin every diner I try is gross. This place was hot. I was sweating. Somebody got yelled at for turning down the ac while I was there. (No I did not ask them.) It was cramped. There was something floating in my water when I got it. They had home fries or hash browns. Myself and another person at my table for hash browns. They ran out of hash browns and tried to home make some. What they brought out was an oily congealed mass of potatoes. They were BAD. (I did not ask them to do this either) The sausage patties were like air hockey pucks. The biscuits and gravy were probably the best thing I ate, but still were not good. Tastes like the biscuits and gravy from Hardee's. The worst part is that my meal was $15 before tip. So on top of not enjoying my food, it was pricier than I would have liked. And that's all I got. Eggs Benedict.... what they really mean is an open face sandwich with eggs over easy , deli sliced ham and goopy hollandaise. Eggs where not poached, it was definitely not Canadian bacon, and hollandaise sauce seemed old. The only thing they got right was the English muffin. When I mentioned this to our server, she reported back that the "cook" said they were poached....really!? Don't think she even reported our concerns to the owner, to which did not check in with us or even make eye contact when I tried to get her attention. I gave up. We were not the only ones dissatisfied on this day. Another couple walked out after looking at their food in disgust. We won't be back. read more

Went to try it out....newly renovated and fixed up. Service was good but food was horrible. Sign says home cooked hearty food. Turns out waitress said gravy for sausage and gravy biscuits was bought and not made there. The biscuits are not homemade and were hard. The Scrambled eggs were over cooked and cold. The hash browns were soggy, under cooked and cold. Bacon was skimpy , pre cooked and cold. Sausage was low quality MSG flavored . Coffee was good. My husband and I tried this restaurant on a Saturday. He ordered a seafood platter and I ordered a Reuben sandwich. His fish was greasy and cold, fries limp. My sandwich meat tasted old and it was greasy. The dinner cost $28. It was not worth any of that. I was sick when I got home. Do not waste your money. read more

Dysfunctional Restaurant I really wanted to see this place do well. There are many problems. Advice to owner: 1) don't fix yourself food and come out to the dining room to eat when you are short a waitress and customers are waiting for service. 2) don't use your speaker phone in the dining room 3) Don't come out Of the kitchen into the dining room on your speakerphone while talking to a repairman and telling him your refrigerator is not working. 4) Assign your staff specific tasks. People are too busy doing too many jobs and nothing gets done in a timely manner and food gets cold. Develop a system and stick to it. 5) replace water stained ceiling tiles. It gives a bad impression. 6) You should be more active in greeting customers and serving them drinks when they sit down. It would take a lot off the over worked servers if you took and filled drink orders when you give people menus. Talk less to friends and family and pay attention to your paying customers. Finally, before you advertise a $2.99 special to bring in more customers, please develop your customer service skills to provide hot food in a timely manner. read more

I will review again at later but went to have lunch today at about 1:45 pm and there was a sign posted on the door that they were closing at 2:00 pm today although the big street sign out front says open 7 days a week until 8:00 pm....no reason was given on the sign posted. Not very happy customers so far and considering the reviews I've seen on here, I would not start pulling this "closing early" thing. Food is very good, but service is horrible. Waited about 15 minutes to have someone visit the table to get a drink order. Half of the order was filled by the very crabby manager. OK this is Barbara's restaurant it's been renamed. Just had a turkey club with coleslaw. Coleslaw was delicious. Sandwich was uneatable the bread was so hard I demonstrated to my wife by banging a knife against it. The waitress said she comp me. So she didn't charge me anything for the whole wheat bread. Still paid full price for the sandwich. She asked me if she wanted me to bring more bread. The last thing I go to a restaurant is to make my own sandwich. Me and my wife are not going back there. Used to be Granny's kitchen. That place was so dirty we walked in and walked out.. First time in the new kountry kitchen (owned by the Snappy Tomato ppl) $7 for clasic breakfast: 2 eggs (over medium) home fries, toast and bacon. The eggs were under cooked and runny. The potatoes were simply cut up potatoes dropped in the deep fryer no seasoning, onions or peppers. Bland! The bacon was ok, two thin slices and rye toast. My wife had sausage gravy & biscuts ($4.99) they were good. But the biscuts were again, a little under cooked and doughy.. She had a cup of hot tea that was $2.30 for a tea bag and hot water. Had lunch here, since we didn't know the restaurant that used to be here closed. Took over 45 minutes to get our food, which wasn't very tasty. Fried chicken didn't have much meat on it and was overcooked. Veggie of the day was canned mixed veggies! Texas burger sounded good, but they way, way overcooked it so it was like cardboard. The bun seemed stale, since it crumbled apart as I removed it to add bbq sauce. Cole slaw was bland; one bite was one too many. The only good thing was the french fries. Glad someone cleaned this place up and gave it a new name. The food was your standard breakfast. I had country fried steak and my wife had corned beef hash. Both came with eggs, potatoes, and toast. They use real eggs in their scrambled eggs instead of carton eggs which is a plus. Our food came out in a decent amount of time everything tasted excellent. I went there for the first time at about 830 for breakfast on Sunday, 12/11/16. The service was rather slow for the dining room being around half full. I was with 2 friends from St Pete and was looking forward to a good experience. Overall the food was ok but a bit expensive. My bill was just under $10 (nearly 13 after tip) for a drink, 2 eggs, grits, bacon and toast. My friend was served sausage that was ice cold in the middle. The server took it back and microwaved it and reserved it. By that time it was over heated, dry and tasteless according to my friend. I live local and was hopeful for a good experience but I probably won't go back anytime soon. read more

One person in our party ordered the catfish all you can eat special and later decided that he wanted to try the grouper. He wanted to pay the difference and upgrade his meal. He was told that is not allowed. That is completely ridiculous. Two people ordered reubens and the toast was burnt and conveniently that side was on the bottom. There was No dressing on the sandwich at all and very little kraut. We had to ask for every drink refill and were not finished eating when our checks arrived. Why do you have desserts on your menu that are not available? I've eaten there several times and never had this type of experience. The waitress was was just horrible. The fish thing is really dumb. As a business owner wouldn't it have been to your advantage to upsell a plate. He was probably almost full it's not like he would have eaten a ton of the higher priced fish and regardless he was willing to pay money for it. We asked about four times for more dressing for the over cooked dry sandwiches and was ignored several times. I asked for extra dressing on the side when I originally ordered the sandwich to begin with. You probably lost customers last night because of all of the above reasons. read more
