I had cataract surgery by Dr. Kovach! It went so well. All questions were answered and the outcome is amazing! The staff is excellent also.

As most have mentioned, out of control painfully long wait times. I don't think they could've fit another person in that large waiting room with a shoehorn. The young lady that did my pretesting did not inspire confidence at all. I wondered if she was even out of high school yet. And her English was not very good. The doctor was in a hurry and I felt he was somewhat dismissive. So I can't say anything about this visit was good. read more

I had my exam and dilation but then I was not informed that my vision would be very blurry after the exam so I got in my car and was frightened and traumatized now that I had blurred vision creep up on me while I had to drive from Barrington to East Dundee and prayed while driving that I could see the blurs in front of me that were cars , the medians that were pale yellow blurs it really was a lousy thing to be let go like that . But now I am sure I am going to be told I should have had someone with me. That should have been communicated before the exam. After reading these reviews I am sorry to say Dr. K that I am going ot cancel my appointment for a fitting next week and look for another specialist. I have a thin connective tissue impairment and can easily tear so it is probably best to cancel. read more

They seemed fine at first but when they gave me the exam for cataract replacement I couldn't see the letters at all. The nurse then told me to guess. Im not a Dr. but how can you get a reading off a guess? The Dr. later explained my options and I clearly told him multiple times I was on a fixed income and could not afford those upgrades. His response, "Just finance it, you'll pay it off in two years" like I will get money magically or something. Dr. AliNiazee insulted my financial position, my IQ, & tried to hard-sell me on lasik for my astigmatism saying "it's best you commit today" 3 times when I said I wanted to talk to my husband first. He barely mentioned the NEEDED cataract surgery. Dr. A takes advantage of the elderly and preys on people's weaknesses. The experience shocked and traumatized me. I put off facing the cataracts until my sight was nearly gone. Pay attention to the reviews and lawsuits. It's frightening. Dr. Amy Vandenbrook with Roisin Eyecare in Downers Grove has completed surgery on my right eye and it went great and I'm looking forward to having the left done in 2 weeks. Need cataract surgery and found Kovach Eye Institute in Naperville excepts my insurance, thus made an appt. when I arrived, there was over 20 people in the waiting room (some have had eye surgery & others had not). I felt more like "cattle" being wrangled while I was waiting to be seen. The person who gave me the paperwork to fill out had a very "dry" personality. After 30 minutes I was called in and several tests performed rather quickly, and I was able to speak with Dr. Novach approx. 15 minutes after all tests were completed. Dr. Kovach was very charismatic & attentive, allowed me to ask several questions and I felt very comfortable with him. Unfortunately, the quote he gave me for cataracts surgery for BOTH eyes was anywhere from $6,885 to $9,600 PER EYE. My insurance pays only for "standard monofocal" and Dr. Kovach did not make me feel comfortable choosing the standard monofocal and really promoted other IOL's and the outrages out of pocket costs, I left very confused and disappointed. I emailed Dr. Kovach's "Patient Education Consultant" a few days later with several questions and never received the answers. I found another ophthalmologist and my experience was totally different in every aspect (for the better). My out of pocket if I choose to go for a "multifocal" instead of a "monofocal" is $2,880 and I only need my right eye done not both eyes at this time. As everything in life...shop around! read more

Dr. Kovach without any testing or doing any type of exam said I had a tumor. I went for a second opinion with another doctor, and it was a blood clot in my head. Truly unprofessional doctor, unprofessional office staff, refused to answer any phone calls about a charge and sent me to collections for it. Dr. Kovach has zero ethics and only cares about how much money he can get out of the patient. He was going to call the ambulance to take me to the hospital. Thankfully, the other doctor I saw with another practice has treated me and treated me with respect. The Better Business Bureau and the City of Naperville need to investigate this piss poor business and have their business license yanked and Dr. Kovach should not be allowed to practice anymore. read more

I can only speak for Dr. Kevin Kovach as I've not seen any other dr. at that facility. I've been coming here since 2015 and had top notch care. Dr. Kovach always took the time I needed for questions and procedure explanations until I understood what he was saying. He is concerned with every patient like that and probably why those in his waiting room can get a bit upset. He is more concerned with the person and not clocking in and out every 15 minutes like many Dr.s do. People matter, not clocks. I've had cataract removal and crystal lens replacement along with other minor adjustments. As my eyes grow older they need other minor care along the way. Dr. Kovach goes out of his way to accommodate the patient. For example: When I had my second cataract procedure day arrive in 2015 we found out when we arrived that the one machine scheduled to do mine and about 10 other patients go out of order. It was producing sketchy results initially and Dr. Kovach immediately changed up the facility that we would be using not wanting to take a chance on harming his patients. We were taken care of on the spot. He arranged almost immediate care at an another eye machine facility near Oak Brook. My hubby and I and the other patients along with their drivers all got in a limo and were taken to Wild Fire restaurant in Oak Brook to have lunch on the house, anything we wanted. Afterward we were taken to the eye facility and each of us was operated on successfully. Then all of us were taken by limo back to where our cars were parked. I can't imagine any other doctor going out of his way like that. I still talk to one person whom I friended from that day that lives near LaSalle, Ill. A great experience all around. Don't automatically believe all the trolls giving bad reviews on Yelp, people get paid to discredit good doctors now days, sad but true. read more

Avoid this at all costs!! First the overcrowded, packed petri dish of a waiting room. Two actually. The second waiting room was even more packed like sardines in a can. I suggest a mask regardless. The first machine i sat at was not wiped down but the second one was so not sure they are very concerned with sanitation. The worst tho is the used car salesmen of a dr. Pulled out all the tricks. High pressure, scare tactics, time is of the essence and just suggesting most expensive procedure not even covering other options. They pack us in with no regard to people's time. That is 2.5 hours of my life i will never get back. Just praying i didn't catch anything there. UGH!! read more

I waited for 2 hours just for Dr Gradianu to see me for 5 minutes. Rushing through the exam. All while saying "sorry for the rush it's almost 5 O'clock and we want to get out of here". When it came time for the diagnosis all he described the feeling of the bump in my eye as "Squirmy wormies". I still do not know what my diagnosis is. They sent me with no papers and referred me to another specialist. read more

First, it can be very difficult to schedule an appointment. Dr. Kovach processes a lot of patients each day. Second, an unusual amount of time is required for an annual visit over the course of the last few years, I have spent 1 1/2 to 2 hours at his location. Most of that time is spent sitting in a waiting area or sitting in the examination room, waiting for him to finally come in. In this last visit in particular, I thought his staff at one of the front desk was particularly rude and dismissive of people who needed her help. I have decided to change practitioners. read more

Dr. Kovach performed surgery on my lashline. The surgery was performed on 10/29/18 @ a surgical center in Downers Grove. I called his office the next day as I was concerned that there was a problem but was told by a woman that everything was normal... On 10/31/18, I called again and said I needed to see him. It turned out that I had 8-10 lashes under the stitches and thus on my eye therefore causing the pain, redness, lack of vision....After he plucked the lashes I had immediate relief and was able to truly start healing. The incision site has since healed nicely- I had my recheck earlier this month. Now, the office staff is a mixed bag of friendly people & those that are trying to act like they want to be there. You will wait well past your appt time so plan accordingly. You'll get called back to one room where they'll check your eyesight and do numbing drops to check pressure and then you'll go to another waiting area and wait and wait. I recommend Dr. Kovach just understand that you will wait to see him. read more

I went there because I have blurry night vision and bad depth perception. I'm 58 years old. I had extremely bad eyesight until 8 years ago when I was fortunate enough to get epi-lasek done by a specialist in NYC. I could not have regular LASIK because my corneas were too thin. I only mention this because I consider my condition to be somewhat unusual and optometrist's who I have seen have been particularly interested in knowing more about it. They said I should see an Opthomologist, which brought me here. The staff was efficient and took lots of tests, dilated my eyes, etc., then said to wait for the doctor. Dr Mateen came in, asked why I was there and I told him why. Without even really looking at my eyes or even explaining the results of all the tests they did, he simply said that cataract surgery "SHOULD fix that". When I asked him if I was a bit young for cataract surgery, he hesitated and said "yes, but people my age do have it done. Do you have any other questions?" He never questioned my eye history! He had the worst bedside manner ever. My father was a real doctor and he would never have treated his patients that way! Then one of the perky assistants asked me when I'd like to schedule my cataract surgery! I told her I wasn't, and left. To this day I have no idea about the health of my eyes or anything else after ALL of the tests they did. Dr Mateen made out like a bandit. I don't know this, but I suspect everyone who goes there ends up getting cataract surgery. Gotta pay for the Mercedes somehow, right? I would never recommend this place to anyone!!! And if you do go, get a second opinion. Be careful people. Do your research. read more

They made the process as unstressful as possible and made sure i was content with questions from the initial consultation all the way thru surgery and the post op follow ups. I rate them a 0. I would NOT recommend them. They schedule appointments and patients are not seen until 2 hours later. The doctor then sees the patient for only 5 minutes. This happens at ALL locations ( Elmhurst and Naperville). They tell patients that the doctors are behind all the time or an emergency. At first, I thought it was just one appointment but NO it happened to ALL appointments both my parents had. We are talking more than 6 appointments. Both my parents attended this Institute for eye surgery. One parent waited 3 hours to actually have a procedure done when he was scheduled for surgery at 11 am. They performed it 3 hours later. This was a horrible experience overall. So inconsiderate of their patients time. Before surgery these patients are paying up front for their procedures. Well that's the same way these doctors should see their patients ON TIME. They are unreal. read more

I was referred here by my eye doctor per blurry vision in right eye. They had me remove my contacts,dilated my eyes.I had to sit and wait multiple times in the little back area waiting room for more than 20 minutes at a time. They did not inform me that the dye they injected into my arm would make me dizzy and also cause me to double over in kidney pain hours later. Dr. Saad Ahmed has no patient manners. I did not want him to inject my eye because I was tired and hungry and frustrated from the 2.5 hr I was there already. He basically talked down to me. That little guy is lucky I didnt have my contacts in while he was speaking to me that way. Thee very worst medical establishment I have ever been in. read more

What a horrible experience. My mom has been visiting Kovach Eye Institute - Naperville location for few months now. She was in GA because I am expecting and due in 2 weeks; she flew back to Chicago for a cataract consultation today. When she reached the office she was informed the clinic is no longer in network with Humana HMO. Apparently, after speaking with the Halley she was notified of the change from the billing department, hour prior to my mom's appointment. The appointment was scheduled a little over a month ago and not a word from the billing department or the office to inform us of the change. On top of that, I was informed if my mom still wanted a consult, it would be out of pocket and would have to pay $600 or she can go back to the office next day to pick up medical records so she can be seen by another doctor. I saw Dr. Shaw for dizziness I started having driving on the highway. If you google dizziness while driving on the highway everything points to BVD along with the symptoms I was having. Dr. Shaw did a quick basic test and said I didn't have that problem and told me to see a ENT. I went to Clarendon Vision Development Center in Wesmont, IL for a second opinion. They spent a lot of time doing different tests that weren't done by Dr. Shaw. They did diagnose me with BVD and I was able to get micro-prism lenses that fixed my issue. They helped calm my anxieties and answered all my questions even the silly ones. I was recommended to Kovach by a coworker who also gave it raving reviews and had the same surgery there almost 7 years ago and still has great vision. I definitely recommend going here for any eye needs. Dr. Kovach was very helpful and I also got checked by an associate of his, another doctor and he was also very helpful and spent the necessary time answering all my questions. Dr. Kovach did lasik on my husband last week and we were thrilled with the entire process. He can't stop talking about how clear his vision is (it's 20/10...we didn't realize you could be even better than 20/20!!). The facility was clean & comfortable and the staff was awesome...especially Kristine. She was with him the entire time and made sure he was comfortable and fully understood post-op instructions. My husband had a floater on his eye. The Elmhurst office was quick to get my husband in the office to see Dr. Ahmad. He was scheduled for surgery the following Monday. Very smooth procedure. Saw Dr. Ahmad in his Naperville office yesterday, May 15, 2019 to have the patch removed. All is well and starting to heal. His office in Elmhurst and Naperville were both very pleasant and professional. Dr. Ahmad was an excellent surgeon; very professional and intelligent. He has a recheck in three months. My parents saw Dr. Fatima Ali for a year. The whole experience was horrible! She always treated them like objects, seldom made eye contact, and made them feel unwelcome. Dr. Ali was always in a bad mood and had a very unpleasant attitude. My parents decided to not follow up with her anymore. My family has been going to Kovach Eye Institute for several years. We've been to the Elmhurst & Naperville locations and the staff has always been kind, considerate, compassionate and knowledgeable. Sometimes they are running late but we have never felt rushed even though they are behind. Clearly they are taking the time to explain/educate and discuss options. People stand in line for 2 hours to get a high-end cupcakes, camp outside an Apple store for the latest gadget yet complain when they have to wait a little to get the best eyecare...don't get it! My doc was out of town and I had a painful eye problem. Christine from Kovach's practice, where I wasn't even a patient, came to pick me up at home. took a look at my eye to determine there was no contact lens wedged in there. called a doctor who was in town, drove me there, waited and gave her opinion and then drove me to the pharmacy and dropped me back at home. I'm in her debt. I ended up having a corneal abrasion and got immediate care. She was smart, affable. met me at my front door with numbing eye drops and charged me nothing. She was an amazing angel and, although their doctor was out, the full staff there (Monica, etc) were incredibly accomadating and understanding. I'm changing practices to them. I cannot believe the care I received as a non-patient. It proves that the practice is more concerned about the patient than money. Absolutely blown away! read more
