My wife and I go there at least once a month for really good Chinese food. The waitress always has a smile and seems so glad to see us. The favorite of mine is the Teriyaki steak and Spare ribs and Fried rice or Lomaine when an egg roll for the appetizer and hot and sour soup. Tell me where else can you go for 9.95 a plate. Kowloon is where you want to eat when you're in the mood for traditional American/Chinese cuisine. I discovered this hole-in-the wall about a year ago. I went back this weekend as I was in the area. This place reminds me of the Chinese restaurants from my childhood. The nostalgic leather booths, the half-hearted Asia décor, the flat dark carpeted floor and that magic aroma you can only get from an old-school Chinese place. (I call it yummy magic - you know the tantalizing aroma I'm talkin' about.) Outside it looks unassuming, located in the corner of a tiny Bethel mini-mall, it's larger than it looks. Inside there are lots of seats, a full bar and of course an endless menu of everything traditional American/Chinese cuisine has to offer. Pu-pu platters, soups, chow miens, lo miens, rangoons, teriyaki, egg rolls, fried rice, daily and lunch specials, it's hard to decide! Expect hot tea and ice water to arrive as soon as you're seated. But don't fill up on the bottomless complimentary fried wontons with duck sauce. Save room because the portions are generous, fresh, and pipping hot. I was in a party of 4, the restaurant was moderately busy and our food came out fast much to our pleasant surprise. The House Special Fried Rice is a favorite of mine, loaded with veggies, shrimp, ham, and pork. I've been eating my left-overs for 2 days now! The staff are friendly, courteous, and deliver top-notch service. You can tell this is where the locals go for their favorite Chinese. It's good for groups, there is free Wi-Fi so parking your buns in a booth with your laptop for a working lunch is no problem. There are a couple of TV's so you can catch the game. Don't like what's on? Ask, and you get the remote! Bathrooms are single stalls by gender. The ladies room was clean and stocked (I can't speak to the men's room). Parking is crowded as the lot is small, we parked out back, it appears as though parting across the street and on the street is OK but I'm not 100% sure on that. I get to Bethel once a year and a stop at Kowloon on a Sunday afternoon is quickly becoming a family tradition of mine. read more

The food tastes seriously gross :(. We are in Bethel on vacation and since there aren't many options for takeout, we got food from here last night. All my life when I've ordered chicken with broccoli from any Chinese food establishment, it tastes more or less the same. Upon taking this out of the bag it looked very different and it did not taste good at all. I forced myself to eat a little bit just because I was so hungry but threw most of it out. My husband also threw out most of his meal and then was throwing up this morning. Sucks that we paid about $50 for the food just to throw most of it out. :(. read more

Solid Chinese food. The best in the area that I have found, though it doesn't rank as my all time greats. If you like Americanized Chinese food you'll presumably like it here. The interior is a little dated but the drinks are strong. Which is a trade I'm willing to make. Good use of the fryer, things haven't come out overcooked or greasy. The staff is nice and attentive. Menu is fairly large, all the classics are there. You can order all their vegetables steamed on the side, which is something I wish more places did. I don't feel as awful about my Pu Pu for Two if there's a side of plain broccoli too, haha. read more

It was my first time here, and I am in Bethel while doing organic farming. I'm from Maryland and had been craving Chinese food for the longest, so I luckily found a place. I was greeted by an extremely warm and hospitable staff! They seated me right away and gave me an ice cold water. One of the great things was that a complimentary appetizer of wonton crisps and a sweet pineapple sauce was given free of charge. Which was breathtakingly delicious! I ordered Generals Chicken as my main dish & It tasted absolutely phenomenal!!! They ask your for your spice preference as well. The chicken had sweet and spicy hints, and the fried rice was on the darker side and had a smooth taste.. the menu has a very wide variety & best believe that I will be back again very soon! read more

This is one of the worst Chinese restaurants I've ever been to. We ordered some takeout, and we're promised it would be ready in an hour and half for pickup (which itself is a long time). When we came to pick it up - we ended up waiting another 40 minutes. This was just the beginning. When we picked up our food and opened it at the hotel, one dish was missing, and most of the other dishes were bland, tasteless and one had a weird after tase. I've seen some reviews here that indicate it is just average....but if this is average, I can not comprehend what a below average would look like around here. Reviewing as a Chinese and NYCer, and a family that owned a Chinese Restaurant, my critique of Chinese Food would be skewed from normal American Standards. Most of the dishes with vegetables were over cooked. Lacking in the stir fried intensity of garlic and high heat and less cooking time. The Orange Beef were over fried and beef cut too thin, lacking any beef flavor. The Orange sauce was ok, lacking real dried Orange skin flavor. Our Tofu with Pea Pod was ok, if the pods were not over cook. The best part is that it was fairly priced and included rice. This is very standard Chinese takeout that didn't really give us any "wows". The egg foo was fairly tasteless and we added soy sauce to help with gravy flavor. The lo-mein was standard with no real distinctive taste. The chicken wings were ok but bland. We did love the cheese spring rolls! I don't expect to get authentic Chinese food outside a large city, but even for Chinese-American fare this was terrible. It was quite busy, so I was hopeful as I sat down, but it was dreadful. I had one of the dinner specials with General Tso's chicken, pork fried rice and an egg roll - tiny bits of overcooked chicken in a soggy "crust", tasteless, dried out rice and an indescribably awful tasting, damp egg roll.
