Great Yelp find for an American Pub. Love the repurposed building and learning the history. Our server, Cindy, was fantastic as was the food. We tried the fried cheese curds for a starter followed by the AMAZING Rueben and chef salad and the chicken sandwich with pesto. Onion rings were made in house and were delicious. Food was excellent and served piping hot. Only suggestion would be to ensure fries have a nice mix of sizes (vs all ends as the bag empties) but the fries were perfectly cooked and having malt vinegar was great. I have tried several times to enjoy this place. I have been here about 7 times. About 4 of the times, my food was way overdone and it was obvious and they sent it out anyway. Had a crab Rangoon dip that tasted rotten. Every single burger is way overcooked. It is super expensive for what you actually get. read more

We came here for the vibe and kid friendliness. The outside patio/deck area is definitely more friendly for kids and has a lot of games to play, etc. But, when we came it was packed so we decided to sit inside. The menu had plenty of options and the kids menu was great. You know it's a good kids menu when there is Mac and cheese available! The food we ordered was pretty good,l as expected pub food. The sandwich was delicious and came with sweet potato fries as a choice. We loved our server! She was flexible and understanding and had a great attitude. All in all, we had a wonderful time. We sat outside. Absolutely love the laid back, casual vibe. It felt like visiting a friend's backyard gathering. The games were a welcomed distraction for the kiddos. Our food was delicious. Pulled pork nachos, BBQ burger, and quesadillas. Sadly - although the bao buns were tasty, they were out of Brie. The only negatives at all are (1) I would have liked our drinks refilled and (2) I didn't like that the tab was simply the total - so I felt like I needed to tip even on the tax - not my preference but also not the end of the world. Visiting mom we decided to go out for dinner while in Norway and tried 290 Main. I had the lobster roll with fries. Any Maine restaurant (I was born and brought up here) should make a good lobster roll and this was a good one. A grilled hotdog bun filled with cold lobster meat and mayo on the side. The fries were great all around, golden brown and a nice crunch on the outside with a fluffy warm center. We tried the breakfast burger with a fried egg, and the burger was thick a juicy cooked a perfect medium rare. Another had the bar-b-que burger with a tasty sauce over the burger! Finally, we had the chicken caprese sandwich and the chicken was grilled nicely and was flavorful and juicy. Our service was excellent tonight even with a busy restaurant so she earned a nice tip on a total bill of $123.68. read more

Worth the drive!! I'm visiting my mom, who lives in a facility in Auburn. She loves food and she loves going for long drives, so I try to find cool restaurants to try within an hour's drive I've of Auburn. The menu sounded interested, so we decided to give it a whirl. They were just opening when we arrived, and I was very pleased to discover that the restaurant is handicap accessible, with a ramp in the parking lot. The server met us at the top of the ramp and held the door for us. Although the regular menu looks tasty, we had to try the Burger of the Week, which was the Hot Honey Bourbon Burger. It is a juicy burger with the right amount of pink in the middle, topped with cheddar, bacon, fried jalapeños, baby lettuce, tomato, and onion and topped with a hot honey bourbon sauce. It was excellent, with a hint of sweetness. No need for ketchup or mustard, as they would have masked that delicious bourbon flavor. For the side, we chose the sweet potato fries, which ch were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Mom had ginger ale to drink while I enjoyed the Lavender Haze cocktail, a heady yet light concoction, not too sweet, topped With a fresh lemon twist, probably meant more for summer than the schizophrenic April snows we are having here in Maine. The menu is pretty extensive, with mostly bar appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches, but also some surprising entrees. Service was friendly and attentive, with lemonade and Arnold Palmer's promptly refilled, and a small but nice assortment of local beers on draft. Burgers offered with a lot of toppings, including tasty tender pulled pork, and several fries, including hand cut, thinner rosemary seasoned fries, crinkle sweet potato fries, tater tots, etc. The triple decker club was done just right. Nicely buttered toasty bread, with tender turkey and ham, and enough mayo and bacon to stand up to the three slices of bread. It's a very filling meal. The wait time for our food did seem a little long, but our server proactively kept us apprised of the status. This is a region with few fine dining or ethnic restaurants, but this casual pub stands out from others with similar offerings. We'll be back. read more

Never have I finished a meal and had an urge to thank the cook/chef. Well it happened today. Our usual stop in Norway closed about a month ago so we checked Yelp and and came across 290 Maine St. we have driven by every weekend leaving our camp but have never stopped. That will change. Clean, nicely appointed, lots of things to look at and think about hanging or written on the walls. The door which is surprising to me swings in versus the expected and I think required swing out. I'm sure it's grandfathered due to the building age. Not handicap accessible from front door as you have two steps to make. Bathrooms were clean and spacious (only one person at a time though). They have high top tables and low tables along with a bar along the back. There is an outdoor seating area which looked super cute but it was too cold for us today. Service was incredible, friendly attentive but also left us alone enough to enjoy our own company. Noise level was a bit higher but it's part of the charm. There was one woman that had a high pitched piercing laugh that was getting louder as she enjoyed her cocktails. Husband ordered a vodka drink that came in a pail and he loved it. Absolutely loved it. I had soda and my son chose lemonade which he really liked. We ordered the pretzel appetizer and it was fantastic. It came with beer cheese and that was also great. My husband ordered a Reuben and said it was one of his favorites he has had. Fries appeared to be freshly made and were solid fries. I had chicken fingers and it's clear they are homemade and all white meat. They were battered perfectly and were not dry at all. I ordered rings for my side and those were exceptional (also prepared in house). My son ordered a Cuban and ate it in its entirety. He said it was outstanding. Due to reviews I wanted to try the Big Mamma cookie sundae. OMG. The cookie was massive. I was afraid it would not be cooked through due to the thickness and I was so wrong. The cookies are some of the best I have ever had. Per our server the owners mom makes these cookies each week. Hands down they should sell them to go. Then we were charged for 3 beers instead of the two we had. Lots of flies, it was real bad. Who ever cooked that was not a cook. Went to 290 Maine for a Friday evening family dinner. The place was very busy and upon our arrival was told it would be about a 45 minute wait, however much to our surprise we were seated outside in about 10 minutes. Kudos for getting us a table right away. We ordered a couple of apps and drinks. The apps fried pickles and pretzels, were fantastic and really the highlight of the night. The pickles were perfectly fried in a nice and crispy batter. The pretzels were fantastic especially with the beer dip. The frozen strawberry Margaritas were first class. I ordered the chicken teriyaki stir fry which was very good, however was a bit salty. It probably would have been much better with less teriyaki sauce. My wife ordered the fish and chips. The haddock was delicious once you were able to shed some of its heavy coating. We ordered the Rosemary Fries not knowing what to expect and will definitely will try a different choice next time. My sister-in-laws each respectfully got the Mac & Cheese and haddock sandwich with curly fries. Both were very satisfied with their choices with the Mac & Cheese taking top billing. Their significant others ordered the Spinach salad with chicken and the steak tips. The salad came with an enormous amount of spinach and a healthy amount of grilled chicken and the steak tips were delicious and perfectly cooked. The mashed potato and asparagus sides were excellent as well. The server was excellent and unfortunately the food took a very long time to reach our table. The musical entertainment, Dapper Gents were super as well. The enlightened us with their folk-rock music with a killer guitar and cello. We choice to eat outside and it was pretty chilly for a mid August evening, especially after the recent heatwave. Needless to say, the establishment turned on the propane heaters. Stopped in after round of golf. We raved about the lobster roll on a toasted bun. The Italian sub was a disappointment with a hard tasteless bun. The portion sizes for French fries, tater tots were huge and we didn't make dents among the 4 of us. There is an up charge for French fries etc. Mango cart beer was a hit. Nice little place on the main road in Norway. Decent selection of food to choice from with pretty good portions as well. Nice sections of local beers to go along with typical bar drinks. Seating is a little limited when the weather is not so favorable out would be my only complaint. That and there are more table top seating than actual sitting. Other than that not bad. The prices sadly like every where else can get pricey. For three we walked out of there with about a $85 bill and that was with just fountain drinks. read more

Came here for a private party and had a great experience! The servers were kind, quick and accommodating. The room was able to be set up as the hosts had liked, and they were able to accommodate a slideshow on one of their bar TVs. They had space for live music and a dance floor, as well.
