Finally got a chance to go here on Saturday afternoon. I saw a snipit of the owner on some tv station a while back talking about the business and the sandwiches "looked" so good I immediately bookmarked as a must visit. It is in a strip mall to the right of Fairplay Grocer. I went online before visiting to view the menu and "assumed" I was looking at the catering menu because there was no way a hoagie was $12.99. The place was empty so i had no problem placing my order for the original footlong that was $15.35 ( no I did not add any extras). Totally NOT impressed. I wanted to support black business. LATE REVIEW- Never got to taste the food, but the service over the phone was poor. I called at opening time to order but was rudely told that they weren't taking orders until 2 and then, at 2, I could only order online. I've never known a business to have hours of operation but only take orders 2 hours AFTER they open. Nonetheless, the attitude and tone of the person who answered the phone was curt and unprofessional to the point that I've never tried to order again. I hear the food is good, but if customer service is your thing, this may not be the restaurant for you. Good luck! UPDATED AGAIN (bc the owner keeps changing her response): The owner removed her lengthy and snarky reply from last night to only now say that she won't stoop to my level. Interesting switch up. Nonetheless, I SAID WHAT I SAID! Ok so I was hesitant on posting this review because of the potential bullying I may receive from the owner. I'll start by stating this is my second time patronizing this business to be extremely disappointed with the customer service and overall attitude of the staff. The sandwiches are good, but definitely overpriced. That being said it's taken 48 minutes on a Monday afternoon (I'm the only customer I've seen) to get my $14.26 turkeyham footlong (no chips or drink included) . This is a hidden gem! I never thought cold cut sandwiches could ever have me write a review, however this spot is definitely worthy!! I ordered a medium tray of signatures subs and they stole the show at my family gathering (social distancing of course). I'm not sure of what is in the special oil that she uses but it's special! So special that my husband who doesn't like subs ate all of the leftovers the next day!! I am a die hard lover of Home of the Hoagie but this is definitely my new spot for hoagie sandwiches!!! The sandwiches were loaded with fresh meat and veggies, the bread was fresh baked and the sandwich was sliced into 1/4's which I appreciated (it would have been a bit hard to work with because they are fully packed). Best sandwich Ive had in a while plus they use Boar's head meat which isnt the easiest to get in Chicago.
