Edited to add that I'm seeing this establishment is only here to profit off of blacks, which they feel superior to. Most of the comments call out there poor customer service as well as questionable, predatorial behavior. Stop having people unfamiliar or afraid to interact with people in roles where they have to INTERACT WITH PEOPLE. Typical stuff, not being respectful when presented with ordering mistakes, trying to charge people for silly things like bags for each sandwhich, etc. Things that NEVER happen in white areas. I got a sandwhich that's supposed to be shaved meat. The Sweet Steak is a specific sandwhich. Imagine drinking an Horchata that was made of coconut milk. That's how weird it is to have you try to use your recipe for sweet steak. Isn't from your particular culture. Obviously you couldn't be bothered to research and respect the culture that this sandwhich comes from. Like you're going to tell me how it's supposed to be made? Cruz? Are you from this planet? A coconut horchata, or a buttermilk horchata, or a mayo horchata, or a cauliflower horchata - none of these are what you can get at 99% Mexican restaurant. Is carne asada usually ground beef? Just coming from SoCal it's like you're being deliberately obtuse. Really hope you take the time to think about this. It is absolutely bizarre hermano. You look absolutely bizzare to people with time to think about why you are choosing to make these decisions. Moreover it's disrespectful that you're not even trying to figure out why things are popular the way African Americans cook it. Weird and Trumpy to say the least. I avoided another spot owned by my non-black brothers because of the tendency to get frozen fried chicken in retaurants. It's unfortunate that this place is attempting to profit from the name Home of the Hoagie, a historical black female owned restaurant, yet they only supplicate the experience with poor quality. Didn't even know Home of the Hoagie used cheese. Quality is subtle like that. This place had their cheese sloppily added to the sandwhich. It's like they don't care about the community they are serving this crap too. It's really a bad look. Another "Hoagie" shop I didn't go to was also because the people making the food didn't seem like they even appreciated the food enough to replicate it with the care and degree that made their shop famous. If Mr. Cruz wants my business, take the time to replicate, at least the quality of Home of The Hoagie. All that great customer service doesn't help if your going to sell Greasy Spoon to make that quick dollar. Brought my friend from Europe here thinking it might be anything like Home of The Hoagie on 111th. You lost out on those dollars. Lost on some international good will. my and I stopped here last night and bought two hoagies, we only ate half of the hoagies, well within an both extremely sick ended up in the emergency room with . I was up all night, running back-and-forth to the toilet and vomiting. I don't recommend this place at all! They messed up my order then said that it was my fault. They were not very helpful or nice about it. It was their response. That is the reason for the review. The response was not accommodating. It put all of the blame on me. At this point, I have not touched the food. I took it back with the receipt and the manager said that I should have kept arguing with the cashier about refunding or correcting the order. The East 87th location is very disrespectful. Regardless to how nice you ask or no onion, tomato or extra oil they will not accommodate your request. I love to have multiple restaurants in mind for the same category of food. The Hoagie Place is a super delicious spot on its own, but it's also a great alternative to Home of Hoagy. The Hoagie Place's service is faster, and the prices are cheaper. I only get regular hoagies or the steak, but I recommend any of their sandwiches. The staff is always speedy but kind. I really wanted a "sweet steak" and was disappointed that Home of the Hoagy closed at 8pm on a Friday night BUT I'm glad they were closed because I would have never come across The Hoagie Place. Super small entry and order area but it was efficient. They were cranking the orders out timely. I ordered a large sweet steak cut in half with fry with mild sauce. Both were delicious; I would have preferred the steak to be hotter (more fresh) and the fries to be cooked a little longer but still really good. I was most impressed that the wait was not extremely long and the food was not disappointing. I will definitely go back anytime I have a craving for sweet steak. I found out about this place when I would drive down on 81st and Halsted. I noticed that customers would be coming in and out of the business. Finally I stopped by and this place does not disappoint. First of all, their hoagies are delicious. I am a vegeterian and I order two things on the menu which are either the veggie hoagie or the two spinach pizza puffs and fries special for $5 on Tuesdays and Fridays. The veggie hoagie is placed on Italian bread and contains sweet peppers, pickles, American cheese and oil. I usually always ask for extra oil and lemon pepper on my fries It is a big sandwich and it cost only $5! The wait is NEVER long. The most that you will wait is 15 minutes and the lady at the register is always nice. Check it out and you won't regret it. read more

The Turkey Sub is pretty decent. My biggest issue is the time. On Google, they close at 10:00 p.m. I came by at 9:38 and the door was locked and a older man said they were closed. I said your hours say 10. He said they leave at 10. So that means you don't close at 10. You close at 9:30. I drove pretty far so it pissed me off. read more
