Christa does a lot of interesting audience interaction via e-mail. Hear more local music on "Northwest Previews". Edmund Stone does request shows - let him know what you want to hear. Bill McGlaughlin. Robert McBride. Great hosts. Syndicated programs like "St. Paul Sunday" and "Metropolitan Opera" are pluses. There's organ music on Sunday nights, a humorous show featuring talented young musicians called "From the Top", and they're even going to play the Star Wars movie music for us in celebration of Star Wars 30th anniversary! I've spent years listening to this station; while playing City of Villains, while doing my homework, trying to drown out the old Cobalt lounge I used to live across, and just to relax while looking out at the rain and not washing the dishes like I was supposed to. Not only that, but the fund raisers aren't obnoxious affairs rife with crap programming like PBS's are. In fact, this is often when you here some of their best stuff. This is definitely my favorite radio station in this town.

Before 5, the malicious and cunning student geniuses of Benson Polytechnic broadcast their pirate signal featuring show toons and cartoon themes in an effort to discourage you, talented listener, from reaping the joys of college radio. KPSU, alongside KBOO, features a healthy mix of local musicians and off-beat musical selections and radio personalities.

Xray has simiarities to kboo.fm and local college stations at Reed, L&C and PSU. College radio - individualistic programming by individuals deep in the music world. They find music so you don't have to. So stop listening to music not customized to you in Portland, or to your interests. Quit pablum!

KINK is not like sister-station…read moreKZOK though - instead of remaining a "classics only" station, they grabbed the "triple A" format by its horns and did their own thing. Thankfully, the station's been sold into local hands again (Alpha Broadcasting) and hopefully will remain fully-staffed. KINK is pretty 'mellow' but at the same time does have hosts and new music that you won't hear anywhere else - except maybe on KNRK 94/7. I stream KINK online from Seattle because frankly, there's no commercial station like it up here. I miss being able to just click on the radio and have a general quality rock song available either on K-I-N-K or on 94/7. Not sure why the station changed their name to "Kink dot FM" while I lived there in 2006, though.

Do you watch the news or listen to the radio? Mainstream media is not always the best ways to be abreast on what's going on in the world. Luckily, in all the chaos that we are bombarded with a voice of reason does exist. The logic and rationalism of one such radio personality, Clyde Lewis delivers. We need an understanding and balance in our lives. The big media organizations seem to dictate dogma to terrify our focuses. Beyond all that nonsense is a radio personality that makes you wonder and think outside the box. Our world these days is changing. Here's an example: the great state of California is under water being inundated with massive flooding. If you watch the mainstream media outlets these storms are caused due to climate change. Us as humans are the reason why the weather is so unpredictable and bad. The earth rotates around the sun, as a result our climate anomalies are not caused by "humans" driving their cars. Some damage is being done by humans, but to shut off fossil fuels and go completely "green" is insanity. What about the earth's regular rotations and cycles. How about the sun itself? We are alive on this planet because of the "sun!" Sure we have caused damage to our planet, but driving a car is not going to damage the planet as they say it's doing. Us all driving electric cars is not going to change the climate. Let's all get some common sense. How many nuclear weapons have we denoted in the pursuit of power? The war between the Ukraine and Russia, could that be causing some sort of weather disruptions. Who remembers the weather manipulations we used during Vietnam? All of our problems of the world. We watch the news and stuff just does not make sense. We need a platform that can discuss these topics as adults where we all have our opinions and bias but they are not judged, just discussed. Our world these days are unsettling. We have dreams that are unexplainable. Our universe is unbalanced. Maybe we live in a Matrix that's all made up. Who knows? But if you want a great listen about history, mythology, philosophy, and other topics that get historical reference give Clyde Lewis a listen. Logic and reasoning with great guest speakers. As a radio personality for over twenty five years, he can be compared to Alex Bell. His radio program is called "Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis." His broadcast can be found on the AfterMath app. He hosts the radio program on many different local stations all around the country. That alone should be celebrated in Portland. "Same Bob, new Job" These were the advertisements all over Trimet buses when I first rolled into Portland in 2003. I was leaving some beloved morning entertainment behind, and I needed something new and local. Quick! I found Bob Miller in the Morning on KPAM and have not looked back. The show is local, intelligent, and downright funny. The Lake Oswego Police Blotter every Friday morning is hilarious! It is run each hour, and I usually catch it at 8:10 a.m. Bob is currently followed by Clark Howard, a nationally syndicated consumer empowerment advocate. I hate big banks. So does Clark. I love to travel. More importantly, I love travel bargains. So does Clark. I love the latest and greatest tech gadgets. So does Clark. Clark and I are a natural fit, old buddies who have never actually met, or spoken. But the bond is there, nonetheless. On the weekends, there is the Handy Randy home improvement show. Randy rocks! There are great tips on how-to projects, interviews with people representing local resources, and more importantly, sage advice about the types of projects you simply should not attempt to do yourself without an electrical or mechanical engineering degree. I admit I occasionally require such a gentle reminder. Finally, there is Dr. Joy Browne, a pragmatic sweetie who inevitably calls everyone "Cookie." In addition to her typical call-in format, she is a huge movie and Broadway buff, so there are segments where she reviews that latest releases in theaters or openings on Broadway. She is passionate and caring and not overly "tough love" (a la Dr. Laura). Her program has been marginalized in recent years on KPAM, but like quarters in the sofa, she can still be found on unexpected occasions, which are usually met with a little "oh!" of delight.
