They do have polite people and do decent work but I did not have a good experience with their repair business. An annual inspection turned up a couple of small problems - low refrigerant in a system and a nearly failed condenser fan in another. No argument with that conclusion so I said go ahead with fixes. Got the invoice and should have paid more attention - a price gouge of epic proportions. Here's what I sent them that got rejected by their system: PS - registered professional engineer who should have paid more attention. 'I was not here when this work was finished, and I have no issue at all with the technician and work performed. He was professional. I agreed to all of the work. But I regret now not doing additional homework on the cost. A one pound 410a add should cost more like $100 at the high end all in. Easy to find on google or Yelp), given you can get a 25 lb Jug in the range of $250. And yes, there is labor and overhead in that , but for for a 30 minute job $325 seems excessive. I also was able to source the replacement fan motor with an identical Lennox model# from a number of sources- from around $200. Again, that doesn't include labor. So if I'm generous, you got $300 in parts, add 20% for miscellaneous. And yes, I get that there is 'Bob's guarantee' and you have overhead, but an 1800+ bill for less than two labor hours of work, make it 3 with travel time and even at 150 per hour - and maybe 450 in parts and material -the total markup at 2x is to me excessive. Plus your billing is deficient in the level of detail so it's even hard to understand how you could add it up to that much. My wife paid the bill of course, but with these prices even though the service is good I won't be using or recommending Bobs for repairs in the future. I'll do my homework.' PS - last postscript. You may have noticed Bob's no longer responds to Yelp reviews. Must be too busy. Or they don't care. Neither one is a good sign.

Amazingly, after the hottest day of the year so far, 111 degrees, Julie at Lake City was able to get a technician out this morning for us. Adam opened up a side compartment on our big AC unit. He immediately said it looked like the capacitor should be replaced. He said we had an unusually sized dual capacitor, but he had an alternative that would work just fine at the same cost. He thoroughly explained our unit's situation and what likely caused the capacitor to fail. He fully answered every question I had in a manner I could understand! Adam was very professional but kind enough to be friendly and pet our extremely playful Shih Tzu. While Adam was excellent, I must mention how good Julie has been to work with over the years. She has quickly gotten answers to any technical questions I might have and has always worked to get a technician out as fast as possible. Lake City's prices seem to be quite fair. I really like that I've never been pushed into buying or repairing something I didn't need or want. I've always trusted their technicians, which is very important when you don't quite understand how an HVAC system works. It looked like Lance with Knight AC & Heating was repeatedly and highly recommended. So I called Lance on his cell phone at 5:36 PM thinking I'd request an appointment for maybe the next day or so. He told me that he was indeed booked up, but that he could be out actually within an hour! He arrived within the hour as promised and spent a decent amount of time up on my roof inspecting my unit. He was able to make the necessary corrections and give me some professional recommendations too. He was extremely honest, fair and reasonable. When talking with him, I could easily see why he had such a great reputation. After she left them for whatever reasons, getting somebody to pick up the phone or respond back to leaving a voice message can be hit or miss, especially during the busier summer months. Don't waste your money to buy their extended warranty because Alpha Air won't be there for you when you really need them for that expensive covered repair job. My AC died during a 100+ degree day, and I called Alpha Air several times and left a message but no answer. I finally decided to just call another AC company that came the same day to fix the problem, but of course, I had to pay out of pocket instead of being able to use the pre-paid warranty. I also had a sick, elderly parent suffering in a sweltering house so I wasn't going to wait for an unreliable company that didn't pick up their phone and will likely just say that they never got my phone call or voice message or that there was a glitch in their system. Alpha Air can do the job well if/when they want to show up so I give them one star for that and one star for Terry who no longer works for them. Based on my recent experience, however, I won't be using Alpha Air anymore and wish we had never paid for their useless extended warranty. They got their extra profit back then, but lost a long-term customer as of now. Businesses that truly deserve all their positive reviews have consistently excellent communication/customer service so they don't have to give after the fact excuses or apologetic explanations.
