    BAYOU "SEAFOOD" PASTA

My family had an amaziiiiiing experience at Kreyol Ya Ya's and are already looking forward to our next visit!! From the loving hospitality, to the delicious food, and even the amazing playlist of songs that played while we were there, our time at Ya Ya's truly felt like we were visiting a relative from our hometown in our home state of Louisiana! The chef and owner made sure that we felt welcomed when we arrived, made sure that we were well tended to as we waited on the food and cooked each dish to perfection! The pasta was creamy and flavorful as well as the shrimp and grits that came with a piece of catfish that was fried to perfection! My family also enjoyed the red beans and rice, catfish poboy, gumbo, and beignets that were so pillowy and delicious!! We were all so thankful to have had such an amazing Sunday dinner together in a spot that felt like home away from home!

A drink he made us, good with and without liquor

The food here is great. The people who own it are also so sweet and made sure we had a great time. I live up the street and came back twice in one day.

    Oxtails, rice, and cabbage!

The food was awesome and the Oxtails were to for. Meals are always on point, and highly recommended. Service was very personal.

Amazing food and customer services. You won't be disappointed. Small intimate place that is welcoming and cozy.

Unfortunately adding corn and potato's is an additional cost but it's so worth it. Curious to try the leftover sauce with the rice next time We also got the gulf oysters which came with your typical oyster dressings. They were so fresh and plump!!! Next time I would try the premium seasonal oysters :)

Something simple that should be an easy win. Unfortunately, everything leaned the same direction: either it was heavy, over-sauced, or overly garlicky. It tasted more like dressed-up frozen food than something thoughtfully prepared. And listen...I don't mind indulgent. But there still has to be balance and fresh food. Fresh like it was raw and delivered today, not fresh like fried in the last 15 mins. When everything is coated, covered, and competing, nothing actually stands out. The drinks didn't help either. They leaned hard on alcohol without much flavor behind them--more "this will get you there" than "this tastes good." Nothing was terrible. But nothing made me want another bite, either. And with seafood, that's kind of the whole point. The atmosphere is friendly, great music, and the service was very attentive. Even the presentation wasn't bad. It just wasn't enough. But at some point, you stop asking what's missing and just accept that it's not landing. I was still hungry so I went next door hoping for a better experience. I want to be clear: It's not bad. It's just not working.

Every time my parents come to visit they request to come here! I shop often at the bodega next door (see my review for Granel) and I was starving one day after grabbing all of my spices. I checked this place on Yelp and noticed it's been around for over 40 years. That was good enough for me! Imagine freshly fried fish (corn or flour available!) like you're at the family cookout served with a side of fried rice from your favorite Chinese restaurant! All for less than $15! I order the same combo every time, the two pieces of bass cornmeal battered, 5 shrimp and the fried rice. I'm not a fan of ceviche but my homegirl and her mom ordered it and said it was amazing! The three of us ate for less than $50! Left full and content. If you find yourself in this area and you like fresh fried fish, this place does not miss!!!

The service was great--the staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything arrived hot and fresh. As for the food, the seafood is tasty and seasoned perfectly; the fried shrimp and fish had a great crunch, and the shrimp fried rice is a must-try. The best part is that everything is reasonably priced for the generous portions you get. It's a reliable, "no-frills" staple in Houston that stays true to its roots. I'll definitely go back!
