This might be an unpopular opinion, but here we go... Like a lot of people, I had been seeing so much hype about this place all over social media. I had actually tried going multiple times before finally getting to eat there. One time they were completely sold out by around 12:30pm(amazing problem for them to have!!) and another time they happened to be closed. My boyfriend and I finally got to try it over the weekend and honestly... it was just okay to me? I ordered the Italian sandwich and he got the TX Club. They were definitely good sandwiches, don't get me wrong, but I just personally didn't understand all the hype. Only outdoor seating but a third of it is covered. We came during lunch so it looked like there were limited bakery goods. We got a mocha, cinnamon roll and sourdough loaf. It was all pretty good but it didn't stand out for us. If you are looking for a gooy cinnamon roll, this is not it. Good flavor but for me could have used more cinnamon. Dog friendly outside! We have been going to Angela's Oven for years. It's a small bakery on Aurora Street in the Heights and everything has been consistently solid. I've never had anything from Angela's Oven that I didn't like. It's run by good people. There's not really much for parking. Most of the time you just park on the street and walk down. Seating is outdoors. The interior is pretty small so if it's during a busy time it gets crowded pretty quickly. The hours can be a bit inconsistent - check the Facebook for updates. Things do sell out so if you would like a specific pastry you may have to call ahead. My favorite go-to is probably the Veggie (Spinach & Tomato) Pain Fromage. Their croissants are so good. I don't think you can go wrong here - the scones are great, fruit tarts delicious, and the bread is stellar. Today I got the Pistachio Croissant Eclair. It was much lighter than I expected and was not cloyingly sweet. The pastry was perfect. I do wish that the woman who packed it had put it in a to-go box rather than in a bag as the filling did get a bit squished. Not a big deal as it was still delicious and was mostly unaffected - just something to consider for future reference. They make sourdough bread, scones, muffins, and more. With a fantastic outdoor patio (when its not blazing hot) I love hanging out here on the weekend mornings! Stopped by Sunday morning for a little breakfast. The place is quite quaint but also has that homey warm feeling. Everyone was super friendly and provided suggestions considering it was my first time. I opted for the iced vanilla latte and the croissant breakfast sandwich with sausage. I was informed the sausage was beef and made in-house. Unfortunately, my latte was super milky. The first few sips were good but after that, it fell flat. I have been to Angela's twice now, both for pizza night. I was influenced like many people to come try it bc of social media. The first night me and my friend came on a whim and waited one hour for a pizza, but lowkey was worth the wait. Unfortunately they ran out of the special of the week but their regular options are just as good. The whipped ricotta on the pizza was very tasty and complimented the other ingredients well. They have free wine and beer available as well for pizza nights. The second night I came and picked up but we tried pepperoni and we got the special this week which was a thanksgiving pizza. It was super unique and suprisingly tasty!! It literally tasted like a thanksgiving plate- cranberry sauce, turkey, potatoes etc, it had it all. They have a great patio area but it definitely gets super busy. I recommend preordering the pizza though. You order through Instagram or you can call them! I can't wait to go back to try more of their fun pizza flavors. I also need to come during the day to check out the coffee shop. Staff were friendly. They stopped serving the breakfast menu at 1PM, we came at 2pm and just ordered from their lunch menu. By the time we showed up, A LOOOOT of the stuff was sold out. They gave us heads up beforehand that it's best to get there at 8AM for all the fresh stuff. We wanted to support a local business so we stayed and ordered 2 Club sandwiches - only served on croissant and extra bacons since they ran out of turkey. I wouldn't say it's my favorite & I didn't really finish mine - which is a personal preference since I don't like freezing cold ham on my sandwich, there were icicle bits on my ham which melted on my crunchy bacons and that slightly turn me off. The surroundings are pretty rustic with tables and umbrellas outside, and inside the shop has limited seating. My husband and I both ordered the breakfast sandwiches (one with croissant, one witb biscuit) with roasted vegetables and they were delicious. I went here a couple weeks ago and the first thing I noticed was how family friendly it is. Lots of families, a few toddlers roaming around not too far from their parents, and playing with dinosaur toys. There is plenty of space outdoors with picnic tables & a few round tables outside on the patio. Overall, it seemed like a popular local spot with a warm and inviting atmosphere. We found street parking in the neighborhood and when we got there, there was already a line forming on the side. We placed the order first through the outside window and grabbed a table. Coffees were self served inside and teas were brought to the table along with the food. We ordered a cherry danish, two pain fromage, one with ham and another with tomato and cheese, and a croissant which came with strawberry preserves and butter. I am so impressed with this little café/restaurant bakery. It is so darn good unbelievable environment. Truly inviting warm and friendly family owned establishment. And the food is out of this world. So grateful that this is just minutes from my door on a short walk. Cannot say enough. I came on a Saturday morning around 9 am! It was my first time here, which I was excited to try it. I got lucky with no line, but the outside was pretty filled. There's plenty of outside seating and very little in the inside, but even then can be crowded with the line inside. Now to the food. The croissant itself was absolutely delicious, very flaky and buttery! The egg was lacking flavor so I added some salt and pepper myself. The bacon was tasty! The only thing that was offsetting was the "side" of fruit being half an orange; I was expecting a small bowl of fruit. The croissant sandwich was 9.50 which was honestly a great price based on other places I've been to! The coffee was okay. I've definitely had much better, but honestly wouldn't get it again with tenfold up the road. I will definitely be returning to try other items off the menu! read more

Wish i could say i had a better first experience. I reserved what i thought was a shepherds pie and an italian pizza come to find out it was shepard pie pizza and an italian pizza my fault for not asking. Showed up for my item slot at 5 pm for Wednesday night pizza which you have to reserve a time slot of instagram and request for the pizza via instagram which i did all that. When i showed up my pizza was the only one not ready. Everyone who walked in at there time slot got their pizza and left. I waited 35 to 40 mins for the first one which i didn't know it was a pizza but again my fault for not asking then they didn't realize i had another one to which i waited about 15 mins. The shepard pie pizza ended up being the best one because it was pipping hot and was very flavorful and i enjoyed the topping on it. Had a nice crisp to the crust and the mashed potatoes made the pizza just over good. Now the italian sadly looked like it was sitting there for a while and i say that because i saw someone at the bakery have one fresh out of the oven and it looked completely different than mine . So sadly that pizza wasn't great like a 5/10. The cheese looked like old and the sauce was cold . Just completely different from the shepard pie one which was 10/10 . Wish i had a better experience because i had high hopes of pizza night as i've been following them for a while . What I appreciate most about this coffee shop is that there's actually plenty of sitting space outside to sit and chat while you enjoy your coffee. One pet peeve of mine is that many coffee shops are very cluttered and everyone is forced to sit so close together to where you can't help but listen to everyone's conversations. There's minimal space to sit inside, but the patio area is quite large. The breakfast sandwiches were made to perfection. They came out very hot, and the croissant was perfectly toasted. There's a variety of baked goods, but you have to go early before they run out. The only reason I took a star off is because although they were advertising Christmas in July, the Christmas flavors for coffees were minimal. There was a gingerbread one, a mint one, and I believe one other one. There weren't any other seasonal flavors either so the syrup options were the basic mocha, vanilla, hazelnut that they have everywhere. Perhaps the biggest flaw is that they serve their coffee in to go cups, even if you are eating in house so there is no cute latte art to look at while you enjoy your breakfast. Overall I would go back when the temperature is cooler, as that's the best time to enjoy your coffee outdoors. read more

I'm torn on this place. It's adorable, the staff is really friendly, I've had a few great things, but it's clear they're trying to readjust after the bakery blew up on social media. My first visit was fantastic. I went early in the morning, the pastry case was full and everything I purchased was fresh, delicious, and on the level of the best pastries I've tried in Houston. Latte was just alright but it's a bakeshop not a coffee shop so I'm not pressed. The second visit they closed hours early because they sold out of everything. Wasted drive. Third visit I tried one of their sandwiches which was lacking in flavor and the bread was a bit tough and I got a chocolate croissant that just didn't have the flaky, buttery execution of a well made croissant.
