I visited to try their menudo. I'm a sleeper menudo aficionado. I've eaten menudo in many different states and too many restaurants to name. I know what a good bowl of menudo consists of and unfortunately this was by far the poorest bowl ever presented. Here is the breakdown: 1, I ordered to go and it took 25 min to receive my order. There were no lines and not many customers inside. I figured it was going to be fantastic because of the prep time that they needed. 2. The container contained all juice and very little substance. There was no hominy, pata, and the amount of tripe was criminal! To put things in perspective, imagine paying for a chicken breast and you receive one singular chicken nugget. That is how ridiculous it was. It felt like they thought I was a person that they could get over on. Especially when I saw the bowls being presented to the majority Hispanic customers inside. 3. The items that were in the container were not high quality and the taste was bland. The 3 pieces of tripe that were in the large container which cost over $15 were not cleaned properly and the lack of garlic, onions and chilies were noticeable right away. I felt as if I had been robbed and truly wanted to return my product because not only was the quality missing, but I paid for something that I did not receive. I don't want the quantity to be the focus though. The taste and quality of the menudo was an insult to anyone who's ever eaten a quality bowl. I will never eat at this establishment again. I do have a restaurant in Houston that is amazing and consistent that I'll continue to patronize. I also have a place in Atlanta as well as the Los Angeles area that are amazing. I had a fantastic lunch and experience here at La Casa! I'm not sure if this a seat yourself and get served establishment or if you should wait to be seated? I waited at the front counter for a moment before someone went to the cashier and asked me how they could help me. I asked "can I eat here?" and they said yes and to sit wherever I wanted. The server who came to greet me was very friendly! She apologized for not helping me out sooner although I really hadn't been in the restaurant even more than a couple minutes. The atmosphere is very colorful, CLEAN and inviting inside! I loved all the decorations from the Pedro Infante photos to the ones of Elvis! The mini panadería section wasn't really stocked but to be fair I was there later in the day and they might've sold out by then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Waitress knew the menu well and had a lot of recommendations! A friend brought some pastries from this place so I had to check it out. It did not disappoint. This place is an authentic bakery where everything is made fresh. The selection of pastries and breads are enormous! If you don't speak any Spanish good luck to you. People are willing to help but the better question if they will understand you. Restaurant owner Trinidad is back in the kitchen/bakery; his wife is tending to the tables; and their son and daughter are working the register and greeting guests. Many know La Casa Bakery & Cafe for going twitter viral in 2017 (Google the heartwarming story); others know them for their homemade tortillas and barbacoa breakfast tacos. Me, my family, and our family friends now know them as "the place with the best campechanas!" Mexican campechanas are a puff pastry hailing from the Mexican state of Campeche. (Do not confuse this with Mexican seafood cocktail, also called "campechana.") So the puff pastry campechanas from La Casa are the best in Houston. They're flaky, buttery, glazed with the perfect amount of sweet. And they don't lose their crunch after a few days (if they happen to last that long in my house.) I've placed at least three separate orders to take to family gatherings, and friends and family are always requesting more. "Pick up 20. Pick up 30..." Owner Trinidad has been working in the restaurant and panaderia scene for decades, and these recipes are his own. As for the breakfast plates, you can find plates for less than $5. That's insanely affordable. My last visit, the beau and I each had our own breakfast plates, then shared an order of pancakes for dessert. :) Do add this biz to your list to try. Came here for my Elite Perk and picked up a few extra items on the menu for a friend and myself . Similar to many others, I don't think I would have ever found this place if Yelp hadn't introduced it! My favorite items here were the breakfast taco and the queso pupusa. The breakfast taco was bursting with egg and cactus, so delicious! The flour tortilla was amazing as well and I enjoyed every bite. Pupusa was delightful as well and I would trek all the way back here just to get a few more of these. Wasn't as much a fan of the Pastor Taco as parts were fatty and parts were slightly dry. My friend enjoyed her barbacoa taco though! The churro was good, even better after toasting it in the oven and my friend loved hers too. However, we thought the other baked goods (pineapple empanada, concha) were just average. I would definitely come back for the breakfast tacos and pupusa! Great place and food! I've had this place on my list for a while and finally had the chance to go. We visited on a Sunday for breakfast. We were sat right away and were able to order fairly quickly. It seems they have tons of to go orders and a few tables seemed to have waited a bit for their food. Nonetheless, our order didn't take very long and we had tasty fresh limeade to sip and chips and salsa to eat while we waited. Make sure you get some limeade, it was tasty and reminded me of the limeade my grandma used to make. We ordered a Desayuno Completa and Chilaquiles con huevo. Both were very good, but I think the chilaquiles were better! I'd definitely get them again. We got some conchas to go and glad we did. They were very big but they were tasty! This visit was MUCH BETTER than last time. One of the waitresses even came by to apologize for the last time. I ordered Huevos Rancheros with 2 orders of bacon. Once again, the Huevos Rancheros plate is $5.95and each order of bacon comes with 2 slices and is $2 each. I did note this time that the prices had gone up, and also saw in the menu that the prices had gone up as well. Likely due to their rise in cost for the ingredients. I had a glass of milk as well. Everything came out hot & fresh, and the Huevos Rancheros plate came with flour or corn tortillas. I chose flour. Also, the plate came out in a timely manner - about 12-15 minutes and was perfect. What a great little spot in the downtown area. If you are craving a breakfast taco, or a pastry and coffee before starting your day, you should check La Casa out. Thanks to Yelp, I was introduced to this place. It's a small, family owned business. Customer service was excellent. I ordered a couple of breakfast tacos, a concha and coffee. They give complimentary chips and salsa while you wait. The salsa packs some heat and is a nice compliment to the meal as well. My bacon, egg and cheese tacos were filled to the brim and two was plenty for me. The tortillas were fresh and delicious. The concha was very good as well. I came here with my parents and toddler for breakfast and had a great experience. The service to me stands out - our server was very friendly and patient when we had questions about menu items and offered to bring us a high chair. Our food was delicious, and we all devoured our food. My absolute favorite out of everyone's food was the bacon and shrimp quesadilla (super delicious, stringy cheese plus shrimp AND bacon!), but I really enjoyed my cactus and egg breakfast taco as well. Everything is made in house, including the pastries (we didn't get any this trip) and the tortillas (yum). The coffee was hot and I never had an empty cup. And, if the opinion of a toddler means anything to you, despite already having "first breakfast" at home before we came, my child devoured the egg and bacon out of his taco and then asked for even "more eggs." Cute little spot. I actually drove past it at first because the building is nondescript with a somewhat dilapidated sign. If anything, though, said wear and tear adds a bit of charm to the place. The decor and overall appearance exude a comfy vibe that gives one the feeling of being at a small-town taqueria or cafe. Upon arriving, the waitress seated me in the corner next to the window, which was great for taking in the rays of what was a beautiful Saturday. I proceeded to order a regular coffee with a chorizo and egg breakfast taco, followed by migas with eggs, and finished by a concha. The breakfast taco was good if not outstanding, with the chorizo being of a decent quality. The salsa served with it was excellent and further improved what was already a reputable taco. The migas were likewise tasty and perfectly paired with the wonderful salsa. The real star of the meal, though, was the concha. I have quite a bit of familiarity with Tex-Mex food but not as much with Mexican bakeries. So while this was admittedly one of my first times trying a concha, I was quite impressed nonetheless. The sugary, flaky sweetness was nothing short of delicious and served as a perfect end to a pleasant breakfast. The main drawback to my experience was the service. While the young lady who served me was exceedingly polite and friendly, it took quite a while to get my various orders placed and for the ordered food to come out. While I was not in a rush and so did not find this to be a big deal in this instance, it would have been decidedly inconvenient and frustrating to someone who was operating more on a schedule. It seemed that the restaurant was grossly understaffed with only my waitress and maybe someone else responsible for attending to the entire population of customers in the restaurant and bakery. This restaurant was a 10/10 for me! This is as authentic as it gets. I walked in and was given a table right away. I let my server know that I had a flight to catch (I was eyeing a table of 12+ that looked like they just sat down) and she assured me it would be ok. I ordered the huevos Mexicanas for here and a fajita torta to go. While I waited for my food, I enjoyed perusing the bakery cases. You can actually grab a tray and some tongs and pick out your own baked goods! I love this because it takes the pressure off of ordering and you can really try new things based on how delicious they look. I got a concha, a campechana, a piggy-shaped cookie that was gingerbread, and a sugar cookie with sprinkles and a dollop of jam. I ate the concha there. I'm not really familiar with conchas so I don't have anything to compare them to, but they were a sweet bread with a frosting topping that had been decorated like a shell. I ate half and saved the rest for later, which went well with my tea on the plane! The food came out so much quicker than expected, which was a huge relief. The eggs were fresh, fluffy, and had a nice spicy kick to them! It came with refried beans, potatoes that were slow-cooked in a broth, and a side of homemade tortillas. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I got out the door just in time to make it to the airport with some treats in hand. I actually didn't eat the torta till about 5 hours later and it was still SO GOOD! The fajita meat was nicely seasoned and all the toppings on the torta came together so well. I pretty much lived off of it for the rest of the day! My family ate the rest of the baked goods when I got home and they really enjoyed them! Unfortunately, my campechana didn't survive the flight, but what I tasted was really great. The piggy gingerbread cookie was definitely more bread consistency than cookie, and the sugar cookie with sprinkles was received very well by my 2 year old! Another note - when I went to pay, the total for my meal was $17. I actually asked the cashier if he was missing some items. For breakfast, lunch, and 4 pastries it was such a great deal! To put it in perspective - I just spent $6.50 before tax and tip for a matcha latte on my way there. The fact that you can get such authentic, delicious, and filling food for a reasonable price puts this place on the top of my list when visiting Houston. Got a Yelp Elite perk treat here and headed out for breakfast. Everything was really delicious from the fresh fried chips and salsa to the food itself. Coffee was freshly brewed and my limonada was super tasty and fresh. I got the Migas and added bacon and my husband got one each of the breakfast tacos. Tortillas were clearly homemade and tasty. I had 2 breakfast tacos: chorizo and egg; and potato and egg. They let you pick between flour and corn tortillas. My husband ordered pupusas and chilaquiles. The chorizo was excellent and not greasy. We both loved the hot sauce. If you pick up your order, I recommend browsing the bakery, where they make traditional sweet breads. Best fajita torta I've had here in Houston. My opinion of course The bread was not tough when biting into it, like some places tortas can be. Here the bread is soft and almost flaky, with a crunch on top from being properly baked and toasted. The fajitas were well seasoned too. All dishes served were just like being back home in Mexico. My husband loved the menudo and the rice and beans for my little one were yummy too. Overall the experience was great! Sanitizing measures were taken properly and service was amazing. The refried beans are so creamy and the chips were so thick and fried until they were brown. The red salsa had quite a kick. Made it there at 10am, took our server a minute to bring our drinks. When she brings them back she's having a conversation on her cell phone and forgets to bring the kids water I asked for. I tell her and she says "oh yeah! I'll bring it right away" 30 minutes go by no water, no food, no check in. I have never felt more at home then here at La Casa. It was the CUTEST place ever! This morning they were a bit understaffed (it is definitely family owned) which was understandable, but they still made us feel very comfortable. The tortillas (both flour and corn) were FRESH!!! Made on the spot in the kitchen, I was astonished to the max. When they took our order for drinks they also gave us some chips and salsa and it was SPICY AND BURNING HOT! Absolutely loved it cause I could see them making it from afar. I got 2 huevo con papa tacos (eggs and potato) with freshly squeezed orange juice, my mother got the huevos divorciados (divorced eggs) with lemonade, and my grandma got the menudo (soup with cow stomach) with coffee, and it was SO CHEAP TOO! The salsa from the huevos divorciados wasn't spicy, but had LOTS of flavor. My grandmas menudo wasn't spicy either but she still enjoyed it. I've been wanting to try this place for a longggg time, but due to my work hours never got the chance. Finally got a chance to swing by on the weekend and use my Yelp Elite perk, but ended up ordering breakfast for the entire crew. We got the huevos rancheros, chilaquiles (green), huevos a la mexicana, and a variety of breakfast tacos. We also got a round of coffees and some pan dulce (Pina empanada, cream cheese empanada, vanilla concha, and churros). Every thing we had was phenomenal! The tortillas were nice and thick, the chips were thick and warm and the salsa was warm and had a nice kick to it. The employees were so kind as well. It was honestly the best pan dulce I've ever had. I love all the pan dulce we got and I'm gonna have to come back again to support this amazing local business.
