Most importantly, I have to say that I was pleased with my first 2 visits initially until the recent visit. I told so many people and my students that I do not have to change dentist anymore before I went to my visit on 11/30/2022. There is a new office front desk person, Jessica. She did not have a depth knowledge of my services record for the initial visit almost a year ago. She went back and audit the record and stated that I owed the service in 2021 in an amount of $78.00. Money is not an issue for me, but I found Dr. Marshall to be unprofessional and unethical after a long conversation with the front desk person.
=================================================
Dr. Marshall told Jessica that she would not render services to me unless I pay the outstanding balance. In addition, Jessica told me that if I do not pay, she would send this $78.00 to the collection agency.
=================================================
This is an internal issues between the prior person, which was a great and an exception individual (Bianca). I have been in healthcare sector for more than 25 years. I have a doctorate degree in accounting. I am a college professor and teaching accounting for 2 decades. It is critical to not judge a patient and told them that they do not understand and confused about billing. There are several issues here on professionalism, ethics, and billing issues. It should have been best for Dr. Marshall to approach patient(s) and explain to them their billing issue, if it was truly under collected for services in the past. HOWEVER, I DID NOT OWE THEM MONEY. NEEDLES TO SAY, I PAID THE $78.00 AND LEFT THE OFFICE. At the least, Dr. Marshall should have told Jessica to approach patient in such professional manner instead of acting like a collection person that no one ever wants to see.
First, I paid for 2 topical appl of fluor Excl Varnishes, but I only got one. Bianca gave a credit for one $34, which you get 30 on Amazon for $24, but I did not see it on the patient ledger.
second, I got filling fee of $90 and paid for it during my first visit before I left the office. I came back few days later and got sealant on 2 teeth instead. Bianca charged and corrected on the record, which appeared on my patient ledger.
Most importantly, the filling fee of $90 never removed from my record and sent to my insurance company. They paid for it their portion. This is an insurance billing fraud. I reported this to the insurance company after I just discovered from the patient ledger. From these sealant fees, the adjustment of $78 credited on my account. The correction credit should have been $78 and $34. However, these credits disappeared from the account. Jessica went back and charged insurance adjustment of $169.00. Insurance paid $91 recently and I ended up with $78 debt. Needless to say, I was happy to pay for it. But, people need to know that this practice violated THE FLORIDA STATUES CHAPTER 627.736 AND CHAPTER 466 BELOW:
(The 2022 Florida Statutes Chapter 627.736 and chapter 466. When charges or services involve an alleged error, service provider has an option to resubmit a revised claim within 15 days. Any person who knowingly and with the intent to injure, defraud, or deceive any insurer files a statement of claim or an application containing any false, incomplete, or misleading information is guilty of a felony of the third degree. Pursuant to paragraph 5., provider providing any service, supplies or care, CANNOT BILL OR ATTEMPT TO COLLECT FROM PATIENT(S) ANY AMOUNT IN EXCESS OF THE FEE SCHEDULES (CONTRACT FEE WITH INSURANCE COMPANY).)
I recommend people to read their patient ledger carefully and do not sign anything if you see excessive charges for things that you do not need. I found out that I was charged for ORAL HYGIENE INSTRUCTION $48 AND NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING $41, which were not on my signed treatment contract and financial obligation. It is best to ask for a copy of your treatment case, financial obligation contract, and a copy of your patient ledger for each visit.
From my personal experience with unprofessional and lack of professional ethics front desk staff and Dr. Marshall, I highly not recommend anyone to use their services. I like to support small businesses and I do not mind to pay extra fees for their products and services. They need to pay their staffs and cover their overhead costs. However, I have no respect for unprofessional and lack of professional ethics.
I will report this incident to the Florida better business agency and the board of dentistry. It is important for people to know that I do not write review like this. I have better things to do than write this pretty epic review. I hope this review would help other people to select a good dentist office. Taking care of your teeth is very important, but having professional dentist with the utmost ethics is important as well. You want to be treat right and you want to treat them with the utmost respect as well!!!!! read more
