Kristy's Whistle Stop is a time machine with sprinkles on top. The last time I was here? Well...let's just say it was before AOL, dial-up modems, and ICQ chat rooms. Before "the internet" was even a thing for regular folks. Basically, I hadn't been back since dinosaurs roamed the earth (aka 30-ish years ago). And honestly? Not much has changed--and that's exactly what makes it perfect. Picture this: 50's-style décor, a pavilion full of those old-school round concrete tables, and a line of ice cream lovers spilling out the door and halfway into the parking lot. I showed up on the Friday of Labor Day weekend and sure enough--limited parking, crowds everywhere, and people walking around holding ice cream creations so glorious they could've been centerpieces at a wedding. After standing in line (and mentally preparing for glory), I found my holy grail: The Stinson Special. Peanut butter ice cream loaded with Reese's Puffs, Reese's Pieces, peanut butter cups, and a peanut butter swirl. Basically, peanut butter on peanut butter on PEANUT BUTTER. No way was I risking this masterpiece in a cone--two scoops in a bowl, please and thank you. A few minutes later, I heard the call: "STINSON SPECIAL--TWO SCOOPS!" That was my moment. I grabbed my prize, slid into a concrete table under the pavilion, and...oh. my. goodness. It was orgasmic. Every single bite was a peanut butter explosion with different textures and crunches--smooth, swirly, chocolatey, crunchy perfection. Halfway through I had to take an intermission to gather strength before diving back in. Worth every bite. Next time, I'm hunting down the pulled pork sandwich I haven't had since the 90s--if it's even half as good as I remember, I'll be in foodie heaven all over again. Pro tips: - Get there early. - Expect a line (and enjoy the people-watching). - Have a game plan for where you're eating, because the inside is way too crowded for a proper foodgasm. Delicious ice cream! My family loves to come here. My favorite is the apple pie sundae

Was very busy and hard to find parking, first time here and got the pumpkin whirlwind, it was like 50% cheesecake/ graham cracker crumbs and 50% ice cream, it was not blended up well at all so there was a big pocket of dry graham cracker towards the bottom. Personally I would like more ice cream than cheesecake and graham cracker. Also got fried pickles and fries, the fried pickles were good. The fries had no salt on them so they're bland, have to add salt yourself. Service was good, even though it was busy the ice cream and food came out quick. read more

Service was phenomenal. The menu selection is crazy. This is definitely the spot to come for your ice cream fix. Whether you're looking for a classic soft serve, or a cinnamon roll sundae, you'll surely find it here. I forgot to take pictures of our sundaes because we got lunch first, but they were delicious. Lunch was great. I ordered a chili cheese dog with onions (forgot the name of it on the menu) and I let the cashier know I didn't eat pork. The server that brought it out to me double checked the chili and let me know it did in fact, have pork. So unfortunately I had to choose something else but the second option came so fast and I appreciated them doing the extra work to make sure they didn't serve me something I don't eat. read more

A fun, retro eatery! Stopped by for burgers and ice cream and they delivered. Fortunately for us, there was sufficient parking. Although I can see where it might be difficult during prime time and in the summer. We stopped by in April when there was a chill in the air. Lots of places to sit outside. But because of the cold, ate inside which is a little cramped. Nevertheless, clearly this is a well loved place with lots of ties to the community. Grabbed the menu from the counter and quickly decided what we wanted. Hubby decided on a hot dog and I had the cheeseburger. Fries are extra unless you order the burger as a 'platter'. Clearly the fries are hand cut and my hubby enjoyed them immensely. Wish the ketchup packets were Heinz, but they were Hunts. Hamburger was Ok, but again I wish I had Heinz. Hubby's hot dog was Huge! And he devoured it with pleasure. We shared a taco ice cream which was yummy. Looked around and people had huge soft ice cream cones in hand. Definitely over generous with the ice cream. Kristy's Whistle Stop is a long time favorite place for our family. We starting coming here in the late 1990's. Although I live in NJ, I have family who live nearby. This place has about the best soft serve around. Their vanilla and their raspberry soft serve are a real treat. On father's day weekend we took my dad there for dessert. The three of us all enjoyed medium sized cups/cones. The portions were HUGE compared to other custard stands we've visited. The service was friendly and fast. Went here for the first time tonight with my partner who has been there many times. The peanut butter sundae we had was awesome. Service was fast and friendly. Well I tried to get my employees to join me but they were all busy. And with me I don't need a crowd so today after church and a BJ'S run I ran to Kristy's Whistle Stop. HHHHHHH I don't know how in the world I am going to keep the 40 lbs that I lost the heck off... So I got the s'mores sundae and the young man asked what size? My mind said you didn't hear that... What size is he kidding... They actually have small medium and large.... OMG that is CRA CRAY! So the small is all I could muster and that was a lot!!! I stopped in here to support the East Penns boro fire police fundraiser and it was also National Hot Dog Day so I ordered the Donna dog with chili cheese and onion the dog was very delicious but I also couldn't just leave with out ice cream so I got the soft serve twist yummy. We love Kristy's Whistle Stop. We celebrate spring and summer holidays by treating ourselves to her sundaes. My husband loves the Fat Mamas and I love the baklava sundae. Sometimes we split a petunia pig or porky pig. The ambiance is a friendly and fun summer drive in kind of vibe. The service is always great. I joke with my husband and Kristy that she's the only other woman I worry about because he loves her sundaes so much. Would highly recommend for a summer treat. This is a cute little roadside shop. The interior has a 1950's soda shop feel, but it is small. There are maybe 5 tables inside, a few benches and picnic tables along the outside, and a covered pavilion in the back. We sat in the pavilion and my toddler loved the multi-colored twinkling star lights draped around the roofline. There is also very cute landscaping in the back with ice cream cone lights and tiny mushroom lights. This visit, I got a mushroom swiss burger and a small order of fries. The burger was very good. It was cooked well-done, which I never normally get when offered a choice, but it was still pretty juicy. The fries were very nicely crispy but needed a good bit of salting. The small was more than enough fries for my mom, my toddler, and I to share. My son got an Oreo sundae and loved it. I got a sundae called Fat Mama that was vanilla soft serve, peanut butter sauce, hot fudge, peanut butter cups, whipped cream and a cherry----fantastic! We both got a small and the portions were super generous. Neither my son nor I could finish our serving. They have so many varieties of ice cream and many sundaes to choose from. You can also make your own creation. We are always happy with the service here. After ordering, we walked out with our sundaes and they brought our other food out to our table when it was ready. Since moving to the area a few yrs back, have passed this nostalgic stop. Finally driving through again, I remembered to try it out. The place is like a step back in time at an old road side food stand. The staff was fast and efficient, and a basic politeness. Our order of a medium hot fudge sundae and medium soft serve cone was by far a mistake for someone who's never visited. They both were more like extra larger! Wow! For me however, I'm a snob when it comes to desserts and sweets. This didn't taste like the rich soft custard ice cream. It seemed to be more of a basic tasting treat. Too much to finish it too. They did get busy while we ate. The place serves various fast food items too ( which we didn't try), like hamburgers, fries, shakes, etc. I'd suggest to anyone to give it a try if in the area. This is seriously the best local ice cream shop around! It's open from about April to September/October. There is a pretty decent size parking lot. However, when it's busy which is a lot of parking can be tough!! It is pet friendly outside, not in! They also give your furry friend a pup cup if you ask :) They have amazing food, which I highly recommend getting as a nice start before your sweet treat. They are known for their pulled pork, and it does not disappoint! Another great contender is the Texas Tommy on a pretzel hotdog bun with hog dog, bacon, and nacho cheese!! They normally have whoopie pies for purchase as well. That was amazing !!! They serve hershey ice cream HOWEVER, the serve is homemade and new this year is hard served homemade ice cream, best flavor I've had so far is chocolate caramel browine. BEWARE, the portions are huge, but the ice cream is so good you won't care. Did I mention the owner is also the sweetest person, and the service is always amazing and everyone is friendly. This time around, the review is getting more justice. My first two reviews, to me, were too "raw", not giving the full experience that others here have had. Kristy's is a well known mainstay in South Central PA. The location is great, right off U.S. Routes 11 and 15. It is also literally across the street from Enola Yard, which I guess is why it is so vastly railroad themed in it's menu. The fare is similar to Dairy Queen in their offerings, but only open seasonally, usually from April to October. Their ice cream, especially their sundaes, milkshakes, and soft serve, are all excellent. Kristy makes her own soft serve, which is why it probably tastes as good as it does. Plus she gives you a lot of it. No skimping here! The hot food is good, but not wow. The lone exception is the "Trainwreck", a foot long hot dog with chili, cheese, and onions (no onions for me). It is messy, a trainwreck for me to eat, but it tastes great and will keep you full for quite a bit. If you want something with less mess, get the "Fender Bender" (a smaller version of the "Trainwreck") or just eat the "Trainwreck" with a fork and knife. Their burgers are okay, but they are also plump and juicy. Their fries are good too; their small being most place's medium. They are that big. The customer service is really good. She accepts credit cards, the prices are really fair for what you get, and she doesn't close! Okay she does, but only for the kitchen! When it comes to serving the ice cream, usually she waits for when the last customer comes in for the day. Parking is the only issue with this place. It can get really busy here, fast, and spaces can be hard to come by. But don't let that stop you from stopping by. Make your way over here and just let yourself go, literally! read more

Getting out of the car locals stopped us asking if this was our first time in Enola. Then going on how Kristy's will be the highlight of our trip here and recommending the caboose burger. Seeing as Enola is one street this was not a tough task but it really was a great dinner. Full of locals happily eating burgers, wings, huge scoops of ice cream I quickly saw the charm of the place. It's a bunch of girls working and they make it fun and light hearted. The menu is your usual american fare, we opted for the caboose (burger with pulled pork), spicy popcorn chicken, veggie burger and kids meal. All the burgers are served on housemade fresh and tasty pretzel rolls, and everything tasted great. I think the popcorn chicken was tyson and with that not worth it but the rest was great, loved the super crunchy fries. The highlight was the ice cream. My son got his free with the kids meal, I got two csoops for $1.50 and they were huge! Where else can you get that?!! I had deep dish apple pie and caramel peanut butter cheesecake and sampled some other flavors, everything was rich, creamy and full of chunks of whatever was supposed to be in there.
