The addition of this large Kroger on Hilton Head Island has been great for shoppers. It has everything you can need for your stay in HH. If you are expecting a leisurely shopping trip on a Saturday in July this is not the place for you. Vacationers descend on this store and it is an absolute mad house. I think the staff does a reasonable job to meet expectations. If you are looking for good selection, decent prices and a one stop shop, Kroger is the place for you. If you are not wanting to deal with a little craziness come back on any day but Saturday or shop somewhere else. read more

Managers and employees without masks on their face (ineffective when on their chin and under the nose), obviously don't care about the pandemic and anyone's safety. Restrooms and shelves totally devoid of products. And only 1 cashier on duty requiring busy self checkouts packed and one person to assist all the 'overrides' and assistance needed. We and everyone else visiting the island checking in for a weekly August vacation go to the grocery store on a Saturday evening after getting settled in our abode for the week. This place is always busy and way understaffed. The wait at the deli was over 70 mins with a pull a number service. Ladies in the deli were moving at a snail pace with over 20 people waiting for their number to be called. Waste of time and decided to get some packaged meat in the meat section and come back in the AM. (Back at 8 AM and the wait was 30 mins for 4 people in line, are you kidding me?!?) We go to check out and the cashier informed us we would have to bag our groceries (two cart fills) since the 14 yr old baggers had to leave at 9 pm. That's understandable for the kids working, but you might want to staff some baggers that can work past 9pm during peak vacation time periods and on weekends. Soooooo we bagged our groceries and the cashier starts to critique our bagging skills and ask us to double bag a few items while she just stands there and watches...VERY FRUSTRATING. She would rather discuss coupons on the back of my receipt that I give zero $&@?!&$ about. I visit the island around 4-5 times a year for weekly vacations with the family and I will never come back to Kroger. We will be going to Publix going forward... read more

The staff is always so helpful. I go in and I'm the person they hate most the one that takes every single apple haha I'm serious but they are always kind enough to grab me a pre counted box from the back which is so helpful in so many ways. Customer service is always willing to help me out and cash my checks even if they have to run around and get the cash. They are always stocking and making sure shelves are full and products are out. read more

I found this grocery store to be very clean, gorgeous, full of staff to help us, and full of all brands necessary to give customers options! We stopped in to this Kroger this weekend when we were on HHI for the weekend and we were pleasantly surprised with the store! So busy and so under staffed. Sunday so they know it is a big check in day. Yet they have long lines and slow service. Selection was OK and the food appeared fresh at the checkout procedure is ridiculous. Do not come here if you have any other choice I should have listened to the yelp reviews when it was only three stars and going to another grocery store on the island. Call me a glutton for punishment I went back again just because it is the only grocery store that has Starbucks iced coffee. I normally don't shop at Kroger, living in Winston-Salem. This place is huge and though a great selection, the layout is crazy (maybe it's me). I couldn't find anything. Incredibly busy store at least during tourist season. If you shop on Saturday or Sunday, be prepared for many shoppers and have a plan b for items just in case. We were able to find everything we needed since this store had plenty of bottled water and supplies needed for the week. The travel size selection is one of the largest I have seen recently. The alcohol selection is vast as well. We made sure to shop during the morning which seemed to help on the amount of shoppers and selection of product. read more

Pluses: wine and beer department, cheese kiosk, fresh seafood. Minuses: baked goods and overall cleanliness. Super Minuses: 1) produce selection is sub-par and many of the items don't look fresh or even necessarily clean and 2) distracted and unhelpful customer service which gets even worse when the store is full of tourists. On the other hand, I'm quite happy that Kroger's deficiencies haven't (yet) negatively impacted the two Harris Teeter locations on HHI -- those stores are superior in every way to the Shelter Cove Kroger. read more

I'm disappointed with this Kroger! From the availability of food to the customer service. Yesterday I was there shopping and couldn't find several items while wearing my mask, which is a law in HHI. Like others, I would love not to have to wear a mask but I do. I was uncomfortable yesterday while wearing it but did, out of respect and the law. Once I finally got up to pay, there were four gentlemen in front of me buying several items. I noticed two of the men didn't have a mask and the employee behind the cash register had her mask pulled down past her nose. I was aggravated. Here I was doing what I needed to do and was uncomfortable and yet others had no respect for the law. I had to say something. I politely said to the man at the register that wearing a mask on HHI is a law. He said, yes he knew but he left it in the car. Once they left, the cashier said, plenty of people don't wear them and that no one gets in trouble so she doesn't enforce it, all while I was bagging my own groceries that she didn't touch one item to place in a bag. There are many grocery stores on the island, Kroger is the most convenient for me. I will however be going somewhere else from now on. Sad! read more

Overall a great shopping experience. This is a large very well organized, well stocked, and extremely clean store. All of the food was fresh and well cared for. Everything you could want from a grocery store including a large selection of beer and wine. The only hiccup we found was during the checkout process. There was only one line open for people with over 15 items. This caused a very long wait. Finally, they had someone from the produce department come over to help ring people up. She was friendly, and did a great job of getting people to transition to two lanes in a fair and orderly manner. However, she made it clear that she did not like having to leave her department for this kind of thing. After we are all done we realized she never asked for our phone number for our savings. When we address this with her, we were told that We have to now go to customer service to get it fixed which, at least, resulted in a savings of about $42. I would definitely shop here again. Just hopeful they are better staffed for the checkout process next time. read more

So we moved here a month ago from across the country and I couldn't be more disappointed in this Kroger. I'm in my mid sixties with health issues and bagging groceries is the last thing I want or need to be doing right now. The story you get from employees is thst they are short staffed because nobody wants to work in HHI because it's inconvenient getting on and off the island. Once you hit 37, the highlight of your husband's life is pretending to be a super husband by offering to run out to get the handful of items you've run out of. Kroger offers $3 draft pints and pizza by the size. Giving my husband a 30 minute hideout from our two demonic children with too much energy provided just the amount of escape he needs to come back refreshed and full of snacks so that we can all enjoy our vacation. And the food selection and prices are pretty good. read more

Once again this place is a joke. I got here at 1 minute past nine and they refused to sell me a coffee. Starbucks in here sucks. They had already started cleaning and clearing before the 9 o'clock close. The baristas had already closed the machine and poured the coffee away. Maybe they should wait until it is 9 o'clock before clearing away all the coffee. The barista whose name is Vema. I think that's her name has a terrible attitude. This Kroger is absolutely wonderful and always has the best variety on the island. I think their produce is top notch and the watermelon is absolutely amazing right now. But I was writing this review for the pharmacy today. As I am only a part time resident here, I have never needed a pharmacy here. But ever since this corona pandemic, my family has decided to relocate to Hilton head. There was a bit of an issue with my insurance at first with the pharmacist. I think it had something to do with me being in a different state as I actually live in North Carolina. But the lady was very nice and helpful and stopped at nothing to make sure I got my meds paid for with insurance. The gentleman working with her took the time to call my regular pharmacy and confirm my insurance and thus allowing Kroger to run my insurance. I wish I had gotten her name but she was a soft spoken woman with black hair and glasses and I just wanted to say thank you for being so helpful. While I'm sure Harris teeter's pharmacy is good too, I will drive the extra mile to come to Kroger now because of this wonderful experience. read more

Not a good store to shop at, unless it's for a couple items. Parking lot is always crowded with buggy's. Store is out of a lot of items and customer service is not good and unfriendly. I went in for limes one day, saw they were out (after having to weave my way around a clerk working in the area with boxes , etc. all over the place), asked if they had any and was given a rude "no ma'am" answer. This Kroger is large and includes just about anything and everything you could need, which is super helpful! Plus, the self-checkout is always well monitored!!! However, living nearby I have noticed two ongoing drawbacks. 1. Dry Ice. I need it every week, but due to customers who don't know how to handle the cooler, I can only get it 3 out of 4 times because the dry ice cooler is either mismanaged OR they don't get shipments frequently enough. This may be simply MY problem. 2. I LOVE XOCHiTL Tortilla Chips! Unfortunately, over the last 6 months, some sort of scam has been going on at this Kroger, with these chips. When I attempt to buy them, the bag is half empty and the seal is "re-sealed". What's left are only crumbs. Not sure who wants to siphon chips, but I have started buying these at Whole Foods where they are full bags and the seal is not a "re-seal". Not sure if management is in on this or simply unaware. Despite my complaints, I think the store is relatively well run & maintained. I imagine such a large operation is hard to run. I give them 4 stars because they do well for their size and usually meet most of my needs. read more

This Kroger is right in my neighborhood. I can ride my bike there, so you would think this would be my go to grocery store. It is large with plenty of selection. The people in the ready made food area are nice. They have good hours. But I do not shop here anymore! Time and time again I buy fruit, vegetables, bread, or meat that has mold on it (but is hidden in packaging) or goes bad within a day or two. Omg Joan from the pharmacy yelled at me like I was a child becauseI lost my voice & she is an insensitive woman. I have never been treated so rudely by Kroger staff before. I love my local Kroger but this place was Horrible! It was followed by her coworker, Chris coming over to further verbally accost me for having medication allergies. I didn't say a word and he's yelling at me about how they have to be safe which I totally agree on, but you don't have to yell at your customers! Then when I look at my receipt to do the online survey they have Lafrenchie's name on the receipt so she would get the bad review. Oh that's dirty! Lafrenchie was the only polite one there that used her manners and was an absolute delight! You should thank your stars that she's on your staff because she's the only one that knows how to treat customers!! read more
