Every grocery store has its ins-and-outs, but once you know your way around, peak times, and other quirks, it just becomes "your" grocery store. Well, this is mine and I like it. Sometimes I pre-order and pull up to their designated pick up area, which is super smooth and convenient. Never had a bad experience with the staff, and while checkout lines can get a little long at peak time, they move fast enough. That's just grocery life. The store itself is well-organized, easy to navigate, and the produce section is always stocked and looking fresh. One thing, that I honestly find entertaining--you do occasionally have to stalk someone to their car and ask for their cart when they are done unloading. For me, it's become a weird lil' neighborhood ritual. Most of us laugh about it and make it a moment to check in with each other. I find it strangely charming... I could understand that might be me-specific. And, of course, every now and then the grocery store music hits just right and we bop along in the aisle for a second catching a vibe. read more

A month ago or so I stopped by here after visiting the Speed Art Museum for a couple of items. I scanned my 2 items a few feet away from a watchful employee and perhaps 10-12 feet away from the security guard. Upon exiting I was rudely asked to show my receipt and had the security guard look in my bag to check to see if I had paid for my items. I called to speak with the manager upon arriving home and the customer service person hung up on me. I never raised my voice nor cursed. Not only was this insulting it was degrading. Perhaps my ethnic looks made me look like a dishonest person. I have never had that happen to me before at any grocery store anywhere including all other Kroger stores. I will never shop there again. read more

This Kroger is convenient for the airport and amusement park hotels. The staff, if you can find them, are helpful and knowledgeable about item locations. They are friendly. The store is well stocked for a grocery store - with household items, too. Parking is usually ample. The only off putting thing - is the armed security guards. These are no nonsense guards. They're not mall cops. I guess they're a good thing. It's just a sad thing that they're needed. read more

They have a new policy to have you show your receipt as you leave, not unlike Walmart. However, unlike Walmart who has lost many legal battles on this issue, they try to detain you if you refuse. "Policy" does NOT trump law! They may ask, BUT you may refuse as well. Once Pais for it is YOUR property. My issue was with a female security guard who challenged me, attempted to force me to surrender a receipt, and was rude af. I'm a vet. She works for Vet Security as an armed guard. Yet she has never served, and has the audacity to try to curb my freedoms I fought for... Do your homework. And mgr there needs to update them on ask, but don't harrass policy Walmart adopted ( unless PROOF of shoplifting). I won't go back. read more

SCO attendant and service desk attendant were beyond put out with being at work. Constantly rolling their eyes with being asked help. There was a line at the desk and when asked if she was going to help by another customer in line, she quipped back, I guess, but I'm going on break. The young lady at the deli counter was beyond helpful and another associate tried her best to help me find the ketchup on sale. read more

The Pharmacy is terrible . Even my primary care Dr. tells about some of his patients complaints . You can make the automated call 2 days before it is due & you are lucky if you get 2 days after it is due . I have one prescription that 2 years ago , my pickup date was the 6th & now it is the 25th ! My next app. with my primary DR. , we are going to discuss moving to another drug store for sure! P. S. They get 2 stars only because the order was correct and the guy who brought it out was terrific. I ordered from online to pickup. And Was very disappoited with my initial contact. The phone went unanswered the first few times. I Was then connected to the front desk .They transferred me. This went on for appox 10 min back and forth with the employee at customer service getting more and more agitated. Not one car in the lot. Took 35 min and way to much huffing and puffing. Front desk needs a major attitude adjustment. I was there at 12 on 12/23. read more

Service is always slow, 15 minutes turns into 45. Their pharmacy app is the WORST as is their notification. Our insurance changed and they gladly accepted it for 4 months. On month 5 I was told that they could only refill my prescription 3 times under my new insurance as a courtesy or until I found another pharmacy or mail order. That was the first time I had ever gotten that information from anybody. They gladly refilled my prescriptions and took my money for as long as they possibly could. I kept checking the app and never did it say prescription cannot be refilled. It always said in progress for four days. It was in progress. Thankfully this was a med I could skip a dose but what if it would have been my heart meds? read more

We were here already for a Yelp event with Kroger and Eli's BBQ and this gal needed some groceries, so I figured why not stick around after the to-do and scratch something off my to-do list! (see what I did there? heh, heh...) During the event we were attending, we were told about the scan as you shop option. We wanted to give that a try! Apparently, you are supposed to grab a scanner and some special bags when you enter the store. You scan the things you put in your cart and bags while you are traipsing through the store and the scanner tallies everything up as you go. Then, you are supposed to go the self-checkout, where the handheld scanner and checkout scanner sync up, la-di-da, and you pay. Supposedly, this is to make checking out go even faster. Y'all. We didn't make it that far. Within the selection of 4 items to put in my cart/basket, I had problems with the scanner reading 2 of the items' barcodes. And one thing it just wouldn't read at all. So, I tried to remove the items from the scanner to clear it out and return the handheld device to the entry set up. Except it stopped being able to read any of the barcodes, no matter how close or far from the item it was, no matter how the scanner was angled. I was increasingly frustrated and couldn't find a worker to help me. So I just said screw it, dumped my items out of the special bags, and returned the unable-to-be-reset scanner and bags to the front and grumpily finished my shopping, having wasted quite a bit of my time. Aside from that frustration, I got the things I needed and only had a couple more hiccups with a slow moving self-checkout register. This Kroger recently went through a multi-million dollar renovation. And it certainly looks spectacular! But overall, there are still some frustrating things, making me unlikely to go out of my way and skip over my "home" Kroger to come here. read more

Probably the worst Kroger I've been to. Never any carts, dirty, overcrowded. Self checkout machines constantly malfunctioning- had to wait while a video recording was replayed of me checking out to ensure I wasn't stealing. read more

Once again I'm endlessly disappointed in Kroger. Not a single hand basket to shop for just a couple of items. The only carts available had frozen wheels or dragged to one side. A little maintenance could go a long way. No reason for a 5 minute shop to be such an excruciatingly miserable experience. The only positive in this entire store is the lovely man that works the sushi counter and the incredibly sweet lady that runs the self checkout. Looking forward to the Publix grand opening. This Kroger location is ok, but I prefer the location closer to my house on Goss Avenue. Maybe that's just the Kroger I'm used to. This location is convenient if you're in the area though, so sometimes I still find myself stopping here as my husband and I occasionally go to the gym next door. They have ample parking, and the store itself is really nice and well-stocked. It just always seems to be really packed, which often makes shopping difficult. Perhaps that's because it's so close to campus? If you're in the area and looking for a place to grab your groceries though, this Kroger will definitely do. read more

Holy moly, Cardinal fan! I feel like this is the lovechild of the University of Louisville and a Kroger grocery store. There's no denying either of them when you walk into this place. This Kroger is clean, very easy to maneuver, and has UofL signage in multiple places. This Kroger location might be one of the larger ones in the city. Nonetheless, I found the items on my grocery list in no time. For a second I considered going to the Starbucks located inside the store. However, that would have been my second Starbucks visit of the day. A line must be drawn somewhere! read more

I picked up a couple items here after a Yelp event. I really enjoyed that this Kroger was bright, didn't feel crowded, and had a wide selection of products. This is a newer Kroger or recently renovated so it has a handful of places where you can buy food and eat it right there in the store! If you're looking for Eli's BBQ you can find it here at this Kroger. With a few, VERY FEW, exceptions when you go to Kroger you get good service. Even if you can't find what you're looking for or they're out of something they do a great job of keeping the customer happy. read more

This is my Kroger, and I'm glad that it's near enough to me that I can make it my go to Kroger. It has virtually everything I need, while also being clean and large and spacious. The layout is great and seems to make total sense to me. Pharmacy over here... produce over there... it just flows well. Also a fan of the scan, bag, and go. Been hittin' that puppy up ever since their recent update. Literally just scan your items with your phone, pay with your phone, bag every item you scan, and you can just walk out after. Also - Kroger's employees are represented by the Teamsters. That's great and all the more reason for me to shop here. read more

I had to do some grocery shopping after meeting a friend at Iroquois Park so I stopped by this Kroger to save some time since I would be driving right past it. One issue I always have with this location is that you can't walk into the store or back to your car without being hit up for money or cigarettes. I was approached by 2 people on my way in and 3 people on my way out. I like the theme of this Kroger as it is so close to UofL and I enjoy the cardinal bird being throughout the store. When grocery shopping, I like to get in, get my items and get out. I was approached by 2 different employees - one handing out smoothie recipes in order to sell a specific item and another trying to sign customers up for the Kroger credit card. I'm not a fan of this at all. Have a booth set up where if I'm interested in the card - I can approach you instead of interrupting me while I'm trying to select my produce. For the most part, I was able to get my shopping done in a timely manner. The self scan was not a fan of me using my own bags and the person working that area had to enter a code multiple times to clear the errors. If I'm in the area, I'd probably stop here again. But for the most part, I'm going to stick to the Kroger's I frequent normally. read more

Kroger took responsibility for Instacart delivering my groceries once. They (Instacart) added things that they wanted to MY credit card, most things I ordered were not right, not approved to sub with, or not delivered at all. Kroger said they would reimburse me for the things that were wrong, but never did. They wanted me to email them pics of the receipt, along with other things. I did everything they wanted me to do, & they still did not reimburse me. Kroger is still (as of February 3rd) responsible for reimbursing me. This happened in December. read more

Stopped in for some local items but didn't find any. I was looking specifically for local chocolates, local bbq sauce, local chips and some other items. The store itself was packed with people but it seems to be the only grocery store near the downtown so it makes sense. I did grab a few items other items that weren't local specialties and i was able to use the self check out quickly and there were so many that i was able to check right out. read more

They have seriously dropped the ball on paying my daughter. She worked there for over a month without pay. She was expected to be there and to do her job, but someone didn't do their job to ensure that she was paid. It seems that they get over on the students who work here. She was forced to quit to get another job where she would be paid. So since she has resigned, they will not send her check overnight. She has to wait another week. Meanwhile, she was supposed to go without food, gas, etc. But they don't seem to care. Do not support this location. They need to get their act together. Shifting the blame to my daughter for not "talking to the right person " and not accepting responsibility for their lack of action and communication. They are terrible. I will not shop here if this is how they treat their employees. read more

I still love the update of this Kroger, but i hate the parking situation. They expanded the kroger, and added another store next to it-but have the same amount of parking. It is so hard to find a parking spot. I usually have to park at the front of Central Station.(by gamestop) I still love the starbucks, and love the open space. I was in the Churchill Downs area and decided to stop at this Kroger instead of my normal Kroger, for convenience on my way home from work. I stopped at approximately 1:30 pm on a Thursday afternoon. First the positive. I am a U of L Cardinal fan and the store is themed after the Cardinals. So it was super cool to see the bright red Cardinal's logo throughout the store. Additionally, it has been recently remodeled, so of course new anything is always a treat. The store was clean and seemed to be well stocked. The staff were friendly and courteous. Now for my opinon regarding the negative. The most impactful negative for me is the store was extremely busy, however did not have enough staff available to handle the amount of customers in the store. I don't mind if a business is busy, because to me that means it is thriving. However, what I do mind is if the busy impacts me negatively. For instance, I had to wait at least 10 minutes (no exaggeration) to finally be checked out. There were several self-check out stations open, but those are not my preference. Additionally, there was virtually no parking spaces close to the entrance, I had to park further down and walk, which is also inconvenient when unloading groceries. If I am in the area and want to run in for a short list, then I would return. However, for serious grocery shopping, I think will stick to my neighborhood Kroger. read more

Wow! I had not visited this Kroger for a couple of years but was instantly amazed! There have been a lot of updates! They are the only store in town that does the scan, bag, and go! Of course, they do click list as well. There is a really nice café area and we had a great experience there. It seems like we almost always forget something when we are attending a UL football or baseball game and it seems like they have everything you could need! One of the highlights of this Kroger... They serve Eli's barbecue! If you haven't had it, get in your car and drive to 2nd St., Kroger right now! Seriously, it's delicious! read more

apparently this store no longer does rain checks. at least that's what the lady at the service desk told me as she chewed a candy bar in my face. tried to call the store to confirm if that was true or she's just lazy but couldn't get through to anyone after 10 minutes. that's a shame because this store is perpetually out of stock. it's also perpetually dirty and understaffed with lines winding back through the aisles. it's gotta be one of the worst managed stores in the country. easily the worst one i've seen in the state and i've been to many kroger stores. read more

Love this location but it's a busy location. The layout is great, easy to mover through the aisle and easy to locate what you are looking for. Parking tends to get busy since it shares with other businesses in the shopping strip. The only downside, some of the staff aren't friendly or helpful. At times the check out lanes and even the self check out can be packed. read more

The produce guy working today 3/4 at 7 am was a complete jerk to me as a customer. All I asked for was a few empty boxes. There were literally 30 sitting in a pile. I grabbed 3 And he chased me down like a criminal. Telling me he would get the manager I'd I didn't give them up. I said fine, so now he gets a public review of how he treated me. read more

I stop in from time to time at the Kroger located at 3165 South Second Street which is in close proximity to Churchill Downs. The store is busy and parking can be congested but it is well stocked. It is not a huge store which is fine with me. Recently it has undergone a major renovation and is a much improved place to shop. Employees are friendly and helpful. read more

By far the worst Kroger in Louisville. I've never seen such a terribly mismanaged grocery store. It's a shame because I've been coming here for over a decade but now you can't even bother stopping in for something quick. Be prepared to stand in line 20+ mins at the self check out while the associates are rude to you as well. Skip this place at all costs if you can! read more

I try to avoid going to this Kroger at all costs...but living downtown, I don't have too many other options. No matter what time of day you go, it seems like it's ALWAYS packed. It's a little smaller than other locations, so it's easy to feel like a can of sardines with everyone else piled in the store. There are so many homeless men who swarm the entrance. I would feel bad, but it's always the same ones asking for bus trips to Indiana. They have a pretty decent selection for groceries..Always gets the job done for me. read more

Considering this is one of Kroger's Value Stores, it has a surprisingly good selection of everything. This also includes various other nick-nacks that you may have forgotten to pick up at other stores. If for some reason you're unimpressed, I beg you to take a look at the other nearby grocery stores (Kroger in the Highlands doesn't count). Anyway, if you live in the immediate area, or go to UofL and live near campus, I strongly suggest checking this place out for your shopping needs. read more

This is the review for this Kroger's pharmacy only! Run! Do not go here. The pharmacy department at Goss is much better and faster. The people that we encountered at the 2nd Street Kroger pharmacy department didn't know what they were doing. The young technician that we encountered dropped our insurance cards on the ground several times. It took her 30-45 mins playing around with our information but still couldn't figure out how. Another older employee offered to show her how but she just walked away and fiddled with the computer some more without success. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. We got tired of her incompetence so we left. read more

Grocery stores usually aren't considered cool...but this Kroger store is. Why? Because Kroger store #752 - just down the road from UofL's main campus - is University of Louisville-themed...and it's one of Kroger's new concept stores that features more than just getting your food and supplies. This location has recently doubled it's size and features things like an area for private meetings; an outdoor patio (complete with Cornhole and other games); and Eli's BBQ, which is cooked on site. As others have said, this Kroger is the closest to UofL, so it was my "go to" grocery store as a student there. I continue to go to this location fairly frequently. It's your typical chain grocery store or supermarket. Nothing fancy, but they generally have the items I am looking for and a variety of brands. However, I will note that this location doesn't have many of the "fancy" things you may find at other Kroger locations, like a salad bar (just one example). Additionally, the produce section is somewhat limited in comparison to other Kroger locations. For example, I have looked for pomegranates here (when they were in season and could be found at other Krogers) and they are nowhere to be found. I assume that is due to size, but what can you do? A-OK, it is. Oh, and they do have some University of Louisville Cardinals merchandise up front (usually relatively inexpensive), if you're looking to show your Cardinal pride! read more

So after getting shut down at the Goss Ave., Kroger shut down over hour in store and a half hour at gas pumps I'll shoot over to the 2nd St., Kroger and they are wide open till 10 o'clock every part, accepting cash as they should. I'm so greatful and thank you 2nd St., Kroger. read more

We frequently go to Goss Avenue even though it's further away from us than this location. I hope the remodel, which thus far seems impressive, will improve the quality. I'm liking the changes so far. In fact, if I were just reviewing the grocery I'd probably give it at least 3 stars. However, when I add in the pharmacy (which is why I'm truly writing this review) it drops to 1 star. As such, what I really hope will improve is the pharmacy. It is far and away the WORST pharmacy I've ever dealt with. The service is extremely slow and they frequently screw up my requests and I'm forced to wait even longer. My blood pressure and anxiety honestly go up every time I have to deal with them. I hope they get some good new help to go with their impressive new digs. Otherwise, I'll never transfer my medications back to them. Pathetic Kroger location, profoundly understaffed because Kroger corporate wants to pay their employees like it's 2004, while raising prices on every product under the roof. Service hasn't just suffered, it doesn't exist. What staff are left are overworked to the point of being visibly burned out. Shelves remain empty for days at a time, not for lack of inventory but for lack of anyone to stock them. I'd say Kroger should be embarrassed to run a store in such a poor manner, but as their pay scale so clearly demonstrates, they're incapable of shame. Pathetic isn't the word for it. If this is the best Kroger can do, then Kroger needs to quit. read more
