meijer, Meijer, MEIJER. I love you, Meijer, but there are times when I despise you. My history with Meijer goes back well over 30 years, having grown up in Michigan.  Before Walmart had 24 hour stores, there was Meijer, who opened 24 hours long before Walmart ever started. And then I worked for Create-A-Card (if you remember them), which had personalized card printing in, literally, every single Meijer location.  At the time I worked for Create-A-Card there were less than 50 stores.  Meijer and I go a LONG way back. So as far as big-box, full-retail stores go, it's always my go-to.   Groceries?  Check Sweat pants? Check Aquarium filters?  Check Windshield solvent?  Check Sharpies?  Check Self-Sealing Stem Bolts? Check ..and the list goes on. The staff at Meijer is usually very helpful (if a bit hard to find), and there's never a team member sitting around doing nothing.  People who work at Meijer usually have a great work ethic and I don't know that I've ever felt like I was bothering anyone when I would ask them where I could find self-sealing stem bolts. Likewise the store is usually pretty clean.  Not like Walmart, where it usually feels like you're walking into a friend's house, but that friend has 6 or 7 kids under the age of 7 and none of them cleans up after themselves or puts their toys away.  They often tend to keep the produce area pretty tidy, which is a challenge because of...produce. This location does a great job of keeping shelves stocked and tidy. They also don't clutter the aisles with pallets very often. I have one complaint.  One, single complaint about Meijer, and that is checking out.   As much as they would rather you use manual checkout, some people (like myself) would rather eschew the impersonal and actually have an interaction with a live human being. I hate and I loathe and I despise self checkout.   It's impersonal. The amount of time between "beep" and "place the item in the bagging area" is just about the shortest measure amount of time In The World. Produce is such a pain in the ass to scan at the self checkout Self checkout talks AT you, not with you. The Absolut worst thing you can try to check out with is alcohol. (see what I did there?) In general, I hate self checkout. As a result, I prefer checking out with a p-e-r-s-o-n, which leads me to my complaint (my self-checkout diatribe wasn't a complaint, it was more of a rant):  Meijer is *terrible* at opening up additional checkout lanes.  I mean, 4 to 6 people waiting in 4 or more checkout lanes, carts 2/3 full or more, and they don't open additional registers.  They'd rather have people wait in line for 15 or more minutes to check out than they would call up additional staff to get people cashed out. This, to me, is Meijer's biggest failure...and it honestly didn't start until self checkout got big.  We used to shop at Meijer every Sunday and would always go to the same cashier because your build up a rapport with them and it makes the process a little nicer than listening to a machine yell at you because it took 2.387 milliseconds too long to put that frozen burrito in the bagging area. read more

Good selection of items in both the grocery and general store categories. It was easy to locate what we were looking for and checkout was efficient. The store was clean and organized, and the restrooms were in good condition. It offers a nice large parking lot that contains both Tesla charging and Electrify America charging options. read more

Huge store, offering both a grocery and retail section. It's best to park where you plan to end your shopping. The signs out front will guide you to the areas so you don't have to rely on your memory. I visited today to check out clothing for my boys in the kids and young mens. The racks were very spaced out to take up room but overall the clothing selection was small for all departments, including womens. In about 15 minutes I had browsed everything I came to see. While I spotted attendants at the fitting room, I didn't see any associates on the floor. This reminded me of why I stopped shopping at Meier long ago - every time I needed assistance it took a long time to find help. Checkout was fairly painless since I used the self checkout lane. The store has several lanes available but few are open. Like the parking lot the store's features are twice as big as they need to be for the number of customers coming through the doors. Prices at Meier are average on basics (toothpaste, cleaners, dog food) and grocery but for its home and garden decor I find them to be expensive for the look and quality. There's also a cheapness of quality about their clothing which won't drive me there for future shopping excursions. read more

Prices were very competitive and the inventory level was impressive as my normal market seems to have a temporary supply chain problem. I go to this store instead of the one closet to me but will not be back. There is one specific cashier who is absolutely rube to certain customers and she is a tall lady . Something didn't ring up so I can't buy it but yet the cooler is stock full of them and it's my fault. My shoes didn't ring up right again that was my fault . Meijer bakery is amazing! On multiple occasions, I have ordered a decorated big cookie, usually for my kids Birthday parties. The cookies are $8.99, so much cheaper than Kroger or the Mall stores, and they are delicious! The staff in the bakery are super nice and so eager to help. They have done multiple special requests to coordinate with the birthday theme, and they NEVER disappoint! Angela is the bakery is a gem! Meijer bakery rocks! read more

I have been shopping more and more with meijer as opposed to Kroger but every once in a while there's one thing that Meijer doesn't have that I do have to run to Kroger for and that would be these sunshine yogurt pops that I love their indulgent strawberry and I don't think Meijer realizes that they have not had them in stock for several months. Kroger has realized that they've caught on and a lot of people love them and they've now been ordering more and they have recently been having them in stock that's really the only reason I go to Kroger is for that and honestly I like to pick up a couple of bouquets of daisies for six dollars a bunch which in my opinion you can't beat! I wish that Meijer would carry the amount of fresh flowers that Kroger did and the ice cream and I would never have to frequent Kroger again! My name reason for writing the review stemmed from an incident last night at midnight I had nothing but wonderful help by young man named Kyle as I was trying to get keys cut in the machine only took certain bills I had left all my cards at home I only had $100 bill they were closing he ran and got me the cash but by the time he literally handed it to me and machine canceled my order and sucked up the six dollars that I already had in it so Kyle said I'll do it for you and he put in his credit card and ordered the keys for me! I have gotten used to the layout at Meijer, while initially I felt I had to hunt hard for things. The store is clean, and I think the produce is much better quality than competitors here in Louisville. Meat is good quality also. Where I am super thrilled is that they have really grown their gluten free aisle and options and many non dairy choices. If you are Vegan, or looking for gluten free, I find so many more products here than anywhere else. Love kite hill almond cream cheese, and I have trouble finding that in other places. I can't say enough great things about Meijer. Sometimes I have to hunt for things but generally my list can be completed here! Staff are friendly and helpful as well. We stopped here on our way through Louisville to pick up something for a friend. This is my first time in a Meijer. Wow! I had no idea of the depth and breadth of the items they carry. It's Walmart on steroids mashed up with a a Wegman's. The aisles are really wide and signage is great so it's easy to navigate the store especially for a first timer. And here's where the comparison to Walmart ends: I've never seen a store so tidy and well stocked and organized. It was actually a pleasure to shop for things. I was impressed with the grocery section. I found an entire side of an aisle full of gluten free and natural food products (not just mainstream stuff like Annie's and Cascadian Farms). And then found aisles of low priced current blurays. I think that if you're in the market for ANYTHING, you can find it at Meijer. Happy shopping read more

So I do love some groceries from this place. They have a fresh and great selection of many different types of produce that a lot of other chain grocery stores do not have and I love the layout. I love the options that they have for pickup and delivery as well as just cruising the store sometimes. It is a great place to go get Christmas presents at the last minute and there are many deals to be had throughout the clearance sections you just have to look for them! Always clean. Good bathrooms. Wow Meijer is a huge store kind of an elevated combination of your favorite big box store. Meijer seems to be much cleaner and much more organized than most stores. There are sale racks in a lot of departments. The grocery section is huge and their produce area is full of fresh fruits and vegetables. They have a large parking lot and when I visited there were plenty of lanes open to check out. Meijer offers coupons from time to time for extra savings. Meijer also has a really large cafeteria-like area if you want to get a drink or a snack. read more

Well, it only took me one visit to remember why my family and I do not shop at Meijer. I had not been there for years, but, I needed to go there to purchase a particular item a few months ago. Most of the employees working on the floor did not come across as friendly. When I went to check out, over $200 worth of groceries and home goods, the cashier said that one of my items could not be scanned because someone had damaged the bar code. There were people behind me. Therefore, trying to be courteous, I said that I would take it to customer service. There were 2 women in the service area and as soon as I walked up, the woman that was available left and went into the employee lounge and returned eating chips and drinking a soft drink. She then says NEXT and I showed her the item that I wanted to purchase and I said that there was a label where they were located, stating the description and price. She then, pleasantly responded...didn't whoever checked you out say that these can't be sold? I said yes, but, If I can grab the label from the display, could you manually input the item? Her response was, as she was enjoying her chips and refreshment, "I done told you that I ain't selling you this so you need to just go on somewhere". At that point, I was beyond mad. Fortunately, I took my cart and left. The icing on the cake is that after I turned around, she started hollering at me that I was an ignorant customer, etc. I had cash back coupons from my transaction. They went in the garbage because I will never return there again! read more

This review is a general one of the last 10 or so visits as it seems like they are very consistent at not being a very good store. First, it never seems to be clean, the floors, the restrooms, the grocery side make me not want to buy any food from here. Why do you have 30 or checkout lanes if you aren't going to use them? It doesn't matter if it's 8am on a Monday or 6pm on a Saturday, of you can find more than 3 actual cashiers it's a miracle. They love people to use self service. The problem is the wait to check out. It is very common to see the cashier lines with 6 or 7 people deep and takes them 30 minutes to get you through line. The self service normally have 5 deep at least on the large order machines and 10+ deep on the small order ones. Another miracle of this store is getting out of there with them charging you the correct price. It seems like everytime I go there are issues. It's not even with sale items, it's regular ones too. The staff, oh the staff. Early morning or late at night it doesn't matter. They are rude if you can get them to acknowledge you or they just walk away. My favorite is asking someone on stock crew where something is and being told that it isn't there section so they don't know. Btw, did I mention it's the same section I was in and they were working in at the time. And that's happened more than a few times. I do like their garden department in the spring and summer with their flowers and such, seems to be quality stuff at good prices. Pharmacy, never dealt with them so I can not say either way. The store itself I would have given negative stars to but based on the charity and community work they do I'll give them 2 stars. I'm not a fan of these big box stores based on their general business practices, Meijer doesn't seem to be as evil as the "W" store but in our society it seems that shopping there sometimes is a requirement, especially if you don't have a lot of money, their prices are normally lower than others but they can help the state of their store and their customer service. I purchased 3 gift cards as stocking stuffers on December 17. Two of the gift cards worked just fine, but one of them was empty - no balance, when trying to redeem. I called customer service and was told they couldn't do anything about it. They said that people are dishonest and lie about this sort of thing. Although I understand that this could happen, it seems like a poor assumption with no personal accountability. In good faith, trusting that Meijer had provided the funds on the gift card I purchased, per the receipt, I gifted this to my daughter. When she attempted to use the card, pulling it from it's never opened packaged, she was told there was no balance. The supervisor on duty told me that it was Meijer's policy to not refund or reload and that he personally doesn't buy gift cards from Meijer for this reason. I explained to him that this wasn't ok and I needed to talk with someone that could help. He told me to call back the next day and talk to the store manager. The following day I called back and was told the manager was busy and to call back later. The next day I called again and was told the same thing.... Frustrated now, I am letting others know that Meijer will not stand behind the gift cards purchased in their store, and that the customer service there is poor as well. I think it is cynical to assume that all customers are dishonest, and frankly wonder why we wouldn't point back to a retailer that can "sell" gift cards that are not actually funded. Maybe that's the point. Sounds like a good way to make a lot of money for Meijer. read more

I confess, as a Michigan-based chain, some of my Meijer's loyalty is because it is what I grew up with. (Case in point, I insist upon calling it Meijer's with the apostrophe-s as in Fred Meijer's store more formally known as Meijer's Thrifty Acres. I don't think they use the Thrifty Acres part anymore, which is sad... who doesn't love acres of thrift? But I digress...) For what it is, and Meijer's is a big box store (hello, there are acres of thrift!), it does a good job. And it tends to fit where I need it to on the big box spectrum. Less fancy than Target, but a little cheaper and with more groceries. Less dirty and sad than KMart. A little more fancy and less morally corrupt than WalMart. Meijer's is the middle ground of big box stores. And if what you are looking for is a big box store experience... so you can buy your groceries, your kid's birthday present, and a new furnace filter in one trip for under $100... then Meijer's is exactly what you need. read more

This mass merchandising, big box store has managed to survive in a world of giants like Target, Kroger and Walmart. Fact is, it's good that this chain exists. With an assortment of goods just slightly askew from the other big boys, this is a good place to go when you can't find exactly what you were looking for. Good at this location: Unlike other locations in the metro area, this one is within a large cluster of a gazillion other retailers. Other locations around town seem a little more isolated. Bad at this location: Lots of traffic congestion. Of course, that comes with all the "good" mentioned above. In general, of the the low-price grocers in town, Meijer seems to be on the high end of that bunch. While that isn't a good thing, I personally feel they combat that with one of the largest selection of food in Louisville. They have all the "regular" stuff, but also provide one of the best selections of produce, bulk candy & nuts, and there is a fantastic "international" aisle. I don't visit Meijer as often as other retailers. Unfortunately, though they have a few locations, they are not in every neighborhood. read more

If I could give this store negative stars i would. The cashier was the rudest woman I have ever seen . She told me she WOULD NOT change the price on something that rang up incorrectly . I had not ask her to I simply said it wasn't correct and could someone go verify this. She said I don't check prices. She jerked my receipt off and went to the office complained to everyone there including the customers. She told me to come there . The manager came we walked back to see the shelf tag said what I said . He refused to give me her name and gave me a phone number that wasn't corporate. I have tried to contact corporate 5 times . The cashier was rude the entire order. When the manager and I walked by her she was talking about me to the other cashiers the manager just let her do it instead of making her apologize to me . I am sure they need the people working there as they can not get anyone else to work . Employees can do what they want . I won't be back . I had spent 179.00 I always spend at least that . I love this store. I just moved here from TX, so I had never heard of this place before. It is like a Walmart or Target, but so much better. They have a great produce section and bakery. The best thing though, is the Meijers app. Use it to get tons of coupons and discounts. They have rewards that are so easy to use. Hated this store, employees are few and far between and when I needed help getting something I had to search everywhere for a damn employee, are they always on break? Having 30 checkout lanes is outrageous when you only have 3-4 open so the lines get backed up and it can take 15-30 minutes to get trough. The other thing is their fruit and produce section, I don't see what other people see, to me it doesn't look as fresh but it might've been the time I went. The store usually doesn't have what I'm looking for wich I tend to go to walmart or Kroger because they have what I want and it's typically faster to get in and out, however walmart sucks at checkout lanes. read more

If you like going to a place that only opens 4 lines with 8 customers per line with carts full of groceries for over 20 minutes before you say screw it and go somewhere else, if you like going to a place where the quality and selection isn't what they used to be you'll love this place. read more

I believe they have a larger assortment of veggies and fresh. I never meet any rude or disengaged Meijer associates. They are always nice and eager to assist. They will go out of their way to get you help. Their customer service will keep my business everyday. I stopped in at Kroger for a few items and the Associate working the self check line was very disengaged and not approachable at all. So, I will continue to go where they appreciate my business. read more
