Hell-OOOO Kroger! You're like the girl (guy) next-door I never noticed was hot and then suddenly it was like, "oh my! How did I not notice?" Except in this case the hot guy/girl is VEGAN OPTIONS. I just stopped in for broccoli which every grocery store has, but then I wandered around, and stumbled upon the unbelievable selection of nondairy cheeses and meat-free deli slices, the old favorites plus plenty of brands that this vegan-of-20+ years has never even seen before. Very IMPRESSIVE. Now I simply had to check out the frozens and DANG if there aren't FIVE full cooler sectionals of plant based meats. All the usual suspects: Gardein, Boca, MorningStar, etc- only even more variety than I usually find elsewhere. OK, obligatory peek at the plant-based milk section. GEE GOLLY WOW. Once again, FIVE full refrigerated sections, top to bottom. You got your oat milk, soy milk, nut milks, vegan creamers, it's all here!! Feel like Kroger has just been hiding its treasure trove of vegan goodness from me and I don't understand. Why didn't anybody tell me? Their public branding is aesthetically so offputting I just assumed the store would be an extension of that annoyance... but if I could go back and change every "5-Star" grocery store I've ever reviewed up until now instantly to a four star just so this review stood out, surely I would. Anyway, finally, we come to the cherry on top: CAST IRON city!! I'm a huge fan of cast-iron and always on the lookout for interesting new pieces, typically there's nothing unique at a grocery store if they have cast-iron at all. But WOWZERS the Lodge display here is incredible. Such variety of pots and skillets, from tiny saucepans, to huge pizza trays, plus the equipment to maintain it in tiptop shape. The store is clean / spacious / well lit / well laid out, in addition to everything else, great prices. It's actually a pleasing place to shop. Even the guy monitoring self-checkout was awesome. There are things I love about this one and things that are not great. What is working: Good organic choices If shopping in store great opportunities for clearance items Store is clean and spacious Drive up service for groceries Gas discounts What's not working: Service-the customer service here is overall poor. Cashiers not greeting, discussing issues with coworkers to other coworkers in front of customers and etc. The cheese section-I can't buy fresh cut cheeses here as they always have picked up a weird flavor like they were packaged in the detergent aisle. I'm not sure where they are prepped or what it is but no matter which cheese you select they have this weird flavor addition of cleaner/laundry detergent. I'm speaking specifically to the ones near the produce section that are wrapped in plastic, weighed and labeled. Stick with Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Wegmans or ALDIs if you're looking to create a cheese board. Regardless of the negatives overall it's a solid location and the negatives don't stop me from shopping here regularly. read more

I have a desire to relocate to Richmond. The first thing I need to know is where to shop my usual groceries. I'm surprised with this Kroger Marketplace in Mechanicsville Virginia. Wow. It was so convenient off the major throughfare. The location was easy to find. Price of my usuals are about the same or less. The sales items are well stocked. Only a few items seemed to be on shortage. That's normal and I get used to. Clothes department really throw me off. They got nice fashion and reasonably priced clothes for the whole family. Y'all the seafood Counter at Kroger is officially a game changer!! They will prep your seafood with an array of seasonings and garnishments so all you have to do is throw it in the oven!! I'm not sure why this location gets such bad reviews it's great! One of the things I like most about this Kroger is the array of items they have here. I was able to easily find a few items at this store that are very uncommon. I said it before and I'll say it again. This Kroger is the unofficial Mall of Mechanicsville they have it ALL!! With that being said the way the aisles are split bother me. Every time I visit I witness a head to head cart collision between busy shoppers. It's a clean building with lots of Stuff. If your looking for Stuff they got you covered. Employees make eye contact, customers are rarely rude. So Covid .... no enforcement of mask protocols. No spacing enforcement and the aisles are so tight I can't keep 3' from anyone. Employees practice notnose masking. I don't see hand cleaning, and they stopped cleaning carts for customers. Sadness ..... I still need my Stuff though, they feel safer than Walmart. read more

I finally found a grocery store with selection and prices that aren't through the roof!

DO NOT USE THE PHARMACY HERE. It's horrible. The service is horrible and the staff are rude and incompetent. I have never had as many issues with any other pharmacy and the staff regularly speak loudly about patients and their medications which is a blatant HIPPA violation. The grocery pick up is horrendous as well. Every week they don't get half of our groceries and when we go in and look ourselves almost everything they didn't get is in stock and we have to get it ourselves which defeats the purpose. It's pure laziness. The store itself is clean and nice and the cashiers are friendly. But the overall experience you get just ends up being unpleasant after a while. I will be driving 15-20 minutes out of my way to go to a different Kroger with better services. read more

Yesterday I went into Kroger. Saw berry's were on sale with a huge special sale price. I noticed a woman kneeling in front of the sign with her phone out. I asked if she needed help. She explained she was using her phone to scan a tiny barcode for an additional discount off the on sale price. She explained you must scan the barcode into the Kroger App to get the lowest price. I tried for 30 minutes to get the special price and failed. I went to the seafood to find another on sale item with another tiny barcode. Again I failed to get it right for the lowest price. I am retired on a fixed income and Kroger is playing a game with the small amount I have to buy groceries. It's discriminating against Senior Citizens who struggle with the latest technology. read more

This is the WORST pharmacy I have ever dealt with in my entire life. Unfortunately, my insurance changed and I had to switch to Kroger Pharmacy. They cannot be reached by phone, If you try to speak to the pharmacist, you will be put on hold for at least 25 minutes. The past three times, I have called the main manager of the entire store in order to get the information I needed. Depending on when you go, you might have 10 plus people in line ahead of you. Horrible business ! I have been told by two different managers that they are understaffed. That really shouldn't be too hard to remedy. read more

I love the organic selection, the Boar's Head deli, the Starbucks and the expansive varieties available. I'm also a fan of the clean and organized store and the reasonable prices. I am not a fan of the staggered aisles or the 'retail' addition to the store. IMHO, Whole Foods still takes the cake, but also my entire paycheck, so Kroger is my go to grocery store for everyday shopping! read more

This location exemplifies poor management. I'm writing this review having sat in the drive through pharmacy for close to 20 minutes. The Pharmacy sucks. Huge lines at all hours. Never more than 1 person checking people out. Miserable. Most people have a list with at least a couple dozen regular items. I can bet money that this store will be out of stock on at least 2-5 items from my list. This was true well before all the Corona-stupidity took over. Want something from the deli? If the pre sliced packages are not what you want - you'll be there all. Day. Long. Unlike the Pharmacy - seems to be all kinds of people behind the counter, but they leave the customers in the care of maybe 2 little old ladies who apparently need to talk to every customer for 20 minutes each. The shopping carts are nasty, dirty, beat to SHIT and can barely roll. Always a few employees sitting OUT FRONT SMOKING RIGHT AT THE MAIN ENTRANCE... So I have been frustrated frequently by the deli counter here whose service staff seem to take great pride in how slowly they can slice meat. My gf refuses to go to the Deli because it is so slow so I stopped in after work. Tonight I was 3rd in line and the folks in front of me only wanted one item a piece. Easily less than a pound. This should be fast I think! 13 minutes later I am still waiting in awe at the glacial place. It is comically bad. Annoyed - I ask to speak to a manager who I am told is coming along. After 5 minutes I give up... guess being timely about helping customers is not a priority at Kroger. Fortunately there is a Food Lion just up the road. Maybe they want some customers? read more

This store is big. I had a hard time finding polenta, and employees were no help. We were checking out and my son was not doing well. He was out of patience and we tried to leave soon. Around 6:30 we checked out, line 14 I think, with Christine. This was a huge mistake. She was having a long conversation with the lady in front of us. We already had everything on the belt so no turning back. My son was yelling a little, bored an antsy. Christine started ringing stuff up finally. I started bagging- I want to get my kid home as it's way past his dinner time already. Christine starts being really rough with our groceries chucking them down the conveyer (wth). My wife puts the card in. Christine asks if we have our card, I say yes and tell my wife the number- oops too late guys. She says something like "I appreciate you helping bag, but if you don't have your number in soon enough no discount. You shoulda done that! I already pushed the button. You shoulda put it in earlier. You can wait in that line and someone can put your number in." I went to that counter and nobody showed up for ten minutes. Employees walked by me to check out and deliberately avoided me because it was time to check out. Not only does it seems like these employees don't care or are bitter, but Christine was like actively vindictive, tossing our groceries, making a snide comment and then costing me like 25$ because of the Kroger card. We had to get out of there, never did get it straight and went home upset. It's a shame, the ukrops sub I got was good and my wife like the sushi she got. This is by far one of the most incredible Kroger stores I have ever seen. It is significantly larger than most and features a variety of products. In addition to the traditional grocery items, the Atlee location features a clothing section as well as an automotive section, just to name a few. The store was well maintained and very clean. Additionally, the employees were both kind and courteous towards their customers. Whenever I walked past a store employee they would smile and say hello or ask if I needed help finding anything. This to me is exemplary customer service. One way to take advantage of additional savings is to download the Kroger app where you can add coupons and even Free Friday download coupons. The location also features a pharmacy so if can be your families one stop shop. It really couldn't be more convenient. I only wish I lived near this location! read more

I used to enjoy the shopping and pharmacy service at Kroger Atlee, however, my opinions have changed. I had to wait in line nearly 2 hours to pick up a prescription. The lines were long, and the only worker available was the pharmacist Jen, who filled Rx, worked the register, and did all acts of service to accommodate the customers who some had been there 2 hours before I arrived. It was the worst experience I have ever had! A manager finally came to help Jen. Apparently, 3 staffers called in sick with COVID-19. This whole situation was a fiasco! Kroger at Atlee has been going down even before Covid. The store is not clean and some of the staff can be rude. I have now taken my business to another pharmacy and grocery store. I hope Kroger will revive itself and become a shopper's paradise. read more

This Kroger is to die for. The gas is always the cheapest and I love the big marketplace style Kroger setting. The staff are sensational and super friendly/helpful. They always send coupons through the mail and if you have the app you get even more. This Kroger can get very busy so I tend to go around 7am or late at night. Simple Truth (Kroger natural brand) organic milk just had it's notice of (No hormones, antibiotics or pesticides used removed from the new packing. There are only 2 reasons to pay money to change packaging to remove that notice - either it now has been cheapened and contains those things (which I understand is illegal in organic labeled items), or they got caught with those things in there and had to change it. The fact that it happened right during an inflationary period cannot be a coincidence, so it's likely the first reason, but whichever it is, you cannot any longer trust any of their products or labeling. Stay far away from Kroger brands! Shop elsewhere; you're health and your family's depend on it! read more

Feeling grumpy... our Kroger remodeled a year ago and I still can't find anything... I have no interest in buying clothing, shoes, small appliances or jewelry when I am running in for a gallon of milk. The saving grace is the store manager and his staff - they are super nice and helpful. Looking for cake mixes. There is a sign on aisle 31 that says "cake mix" don't let it fool you... Cake mixes are on the next aisle over with a sign that says "baking mixes..." Looking for Oatmeal and cream of wheat? Don't go to the cereal section - who knew hot cereal is now considered either granola or crackers... Do you want sparkling water? Perrier and San Pellegrino is near the soft drinks... Want seltzer water? Plain seltzer water in the juice section, flavored seltzer is on the sports drink section and club soda is in the mixers section by the wine... I am Still looking for Jello mix I am guessing it is near the fruit roll-ups or Pet food. What an awful waste of time 2 round trips through the store and I am Still searching... Really annoyed... Today - I left and finished shopping at a food lion. I want to shop at Kroger regularly but am a busy mom and don't want to spend 45 minutes picking up milk, coke, Peanuts and shampoo. Last week I spent 15 minutes finding out where the salted peanuts are kept now (produce by the nuts? Baking section? Near the crackers? In the back corner or near the front by the football stuff?) Once that oddesy was over I- I tracked back to the Coke section only to realize that I forgot to get milk in the dairy section then back to the health food section to get Organic milk since it is kept somewhere else and then back To pharmacy to get shampoo. I miss the old Kroger when you went to the coffee and tea section and could find the tea you wanted instead of guessing which section is tea kept in now? With this said, i will be back in 8 weeks - hoping things get better - too bad - I used to shop there 1 or 2 times a week. I don't normally have negative things to say about Kroger but today I had the rudest service by a cashier that I have ever had. The manager had come over and told my cashier Laureen to fix it. The cashier behind her however Perrette, stuck her nose in business that was taken care of and left my experience with a bad taste in my mouth. To top it off when she had a customer she ignored her the entire time and spoke to an associate that had walked up about weekend plans. Laureen was wonderful and I would suggest going in her line whenever you can and staying out of Perrette's. read more

I used to love this store but then something changed. Now every time I grocery shop, they are out of something that I need. They seem to have a really difficult time getting their inventory levels straight so that they keep items on hand. They also move items frequently from one area to another, making it difficult to find what you're looking for. There are displays sitting in nearly every aisle making it impossible in some areas for more than one cart to fit through at a time. The staff is courteous enough, however the baggers seem to lack basic training. It doesn't take a genius to know that you don't put green onions and bananas under a 5 pound bag of potatoes, or that you shouldn't pack raw meat with anything other than raw meat. read more

On the plus side they have a huge selection. I have always found the produce and meats to be fresh and of good quality. I am very pleased with the additional selections that the recent expansion to a marketplace has provided. The Starbucks is a great addition, but they need to work on getting faster. On the downside they need more carts, the aisles are crowded, the expansion has caused them to move the Pharmacy way to the other side in an inconvenient location. Standing at register waiting for the pharmacy tech to return with our asthma inhaler and medication the pharmacist stomped out red face and crying " I am sick of everyone yelling at me!" Melina? and Ashley said they can not give us our medications because "the pharmacist has to verify our medication's". We waited 20 minutes, hoping the pharmacist could pull herself together however the Kroger Store Manager said she was going through some things and could not tell us an ETA of another pharmacist. I shop here regularly because the prices are great, the selection is good and more importantly the staff is wonderful! I love that you can come grab a salad bar, sushi, prepared meals ( ribs, fried chicken, Chinese etc) as you buy groceries. They have an in store Starbucks as well do you can enjoy a coffee as you shop. I also love that you can get flowers, prescriptions or even see a nurse practitioner at the little clinic all inside the store. They have a Fred Meyers jewelry store, clothes, shoes accessories and even housewares....you can really almost buy anything here as you buy groceries! I have never bought jewelry here but I have shopped in every other area and I am please most of the time. I normally use the digital coupons but today I decided to try the click list service. I had not heard anything about it but my husbands stylist works in this department part time, and told him at his last hair cut. This service allowed me to buy all my groceries and maximize it buy loading digital coupons on to my card that they applied at check out. They will take paper coupons when you pick up your purchase as well. The process was soooo easy and user friendly. I loaded 164 items into my card and then I added my information, picked a scheduled pick up time for the next day. I believe that they do not offer same day pick up but I could be wrong;) After my order was placed I received a confirmation email. Then I decided to add more items just to see how that worked. It was super easy I logged on and selected 4 items, then at check out it simply said would you like to add to your current pending order I clicked that and I was done. I received a new updated email and you are able to do that until midnight of the same day you place the order, which is great if you forgot something initially. This morning I had a pick up window of 8-9am and when I arrived in with no make up and in pajamas basically, it did not matter since I did not have to get out of my car!! The store has a pick up area to the left of the building with several numbered parking spots. You then call the number on the sign and give them your name, they pull up the order ask if you have paper coupon...which I did. They came and loaded the other car that was there before me with his groceries, grabbed my coupons and that was it. They returned 2 min later with my receipt printed out and a pull cart full of bags. I gave them my card and they ran it, all while I was in my front seat. Then they loaded everything for me and they were soooo nice. I was literally in and out within 15 min and I had all my groceries for 2 weeks. They are currently giving you this service for free for your first 3 purchases and after that it will cost 4.95. I order Amazon prime pantry often and tip 5.00 so this is an amazing deal since you can buy sale items, meats, and a wide variety of items that I often can't buy through the other service. I am very picky with my meat and fruits/veggies but they selected everything just like I requested, and my deli order was also correct. I was also impressed that everything was bagged well and nothing was squished or dented. I love to eat but hate to grocery shop so this literally saved me at least 2 hrs of my time, and allowed me to not end up with a cart full of "stuff" as I walked through the store grabbing random things that look good ;-) I would highly recommend this!!! read more

I have to eat gluten free. No choice in that. Their gf area was tiny. Their options around the store virtually non-existant. Very disappointing. You think a store on this scale would have a clue about gluten free limitations and the need that exists in every community. This store is a high volume store. Very busy and often out of inventory. They also are HORRIBLE with their tagging system. I'll buy an item that says it's on sale for 4.99, but at the register I'm charged 7.99. Happened again last week. Item was tagged for 1.00, but was rung up as 2.49. Customer service always makes it right, but it is a hassle. I have to watch EACH item as they ring it up. They used to have all the vegan/organic items in a couple of aisles. Now, you have to hunt and peck through every aisle to find the item. The store is close to home, decent prices, but not a great store. read more

This is a great store. It has almost everything you would need, and I mean EVERYTHING! I only shop here for groceries and occasionally toiletries, etc., but they have clothes, housewares, jewelry, a florist and Starbucks. I am not a fan of the Starbucks there, as I feel that the quality of the drinks are lesser than those at an actual Starbucks location. I shop here for mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and organic items, of which they have a wide selection! The beer and wine selection is vast! One of the things I really like about the beer selection is that they have a whole section of beer perpendicular to the cold beer, which are usually interesting craft beer offerings. Only good things to say so far, so now some not so good! I am quite picky when it comes to meat, and Kroger doesn't have enough selection of grass fed and organic meat and wild caught seafood. Now to the parking . The parking lot is an absolute zoo. I fear for my safety every time that I drive there. A tip I can offer is to drive around the back of the store and park on the fringes of the parking lot in order to avoid some traffic and pedestrians. Kroger's gas station is one of their services that I use the most. On the weekend in the summer, you can get double fuel points. That definitely comes in handy. The store is also right off of my route to work, so I frequently stop there for gas. This Kroger is definitely the best grocery store in all of Hanover County! read more

I used to really like going here but recently I contacted them about a request to bring in my service dog in training. They denied me bringing him in. This put me off to this location. It is within their right to deny him but they did so without even seeing how far along in his training he was. This was all just by a phone call. No thought behind it just a " no" . Well, in a month they can't deny him coming in but they lost my business. The Kroger on mechanicsville turnpike welcomes my little trainee happily. I'll go there.
