Let me start off by saying what's not to love about shopping for the items you like to eat and drink. This store is always clean and items are neatly organized and stocked,the employees are always helpful and polite,the deli is full of meats and cheeses,the pastries are fresh and plentiful,the produce is fresh and neatly stacked,the poultry and seafood is fresh. They have a pharmacy on the premises for your prescription needs,they have a jewelry store if you want to purchase some shine and they also have a clothing section if you're interested in buying anything from there but most of all ( my favorite area ) is they have a bar and seating area if you just want to grab a glass of beer or wine while you shop or wait for your shopping partner/s!!... Today is the Grand Opening of the new Kroger Marketplace (KM) at the Harbourview area here in North Suffolk. KM has 128,000 square feet, and employs 350 part and full-time workers. While I probably will not shop here regularly (I live closer to downtown Suffolk), I wanted to check out the new place. Here are the cool details: --This place is huge! Not only do they have groceries, they sell apparel, home décor, toys, Fred Meyer Jewelers, etc. --Drive-thru Pharmacy --Starbucks kiosk --Cheese Shop --Deli Bistro with a full menu --A large organic produce section as well as local Virginia items --Great natural foods department with bulk dry items like nuts --Fuel Center with 9 pumps (every $100 you spend, you get 10¢ off a gallon) --A large, organized parking lot People--this place is amazing! I may have to drive over here weekly just because I am in love with KM. I used the self-checkout and I had no problems. Suffolk is on the map and KM is where it's at. read more

There is so much to offer, that it's quite impressive! I want to give it 5 stars, but the problem is that the quality of the prepared foods (including sushi) is lacking. If one could choose between low-quality and moderate-quality, I'd be satisfied. But, that's not the case. So, even though the store offers so much and I've dined from the prepared foods, those foods aren't anything that I'd recommend unless you were hungry and about to shop. Eat before you shop and you wind up saving money in the long run. I appreciate that. But, can't help feeling a bit icky about eating that food. Aside from that, this Kroger is awesome! It's new and clean. The staff all say, "Hi" and smile. Check-out is quick. There's a HUGE variety of produce, conventional and organic. There's a cheese & wine counter. They have the largest selection of Boar's Head meats and cheese that I've ever seen, anywhere, without exaggeration! They have a kitchen gadgets section. A tiny furniture selction. Jewelry store. Pharmacy. Starbucks. *smh* There's a lot going on and I'm happy to see all of it! Best of all, for me, there's a Non-GMO section. Thank you for not making me run all over that HUGE store to find products and brands that I like! The Non-GMO section is front & center, right in front of the Customer Service counter. Most of the prices are better than Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, and Fresh Market. This is now my go-to grocery store. It has long hours and saves me and hour and a half in driving time. ~~~~~ Points for purchases add up to $$ saved at the gas station. Came here for the grand opening. This place is honestly rather phenomenal. It's very clean, has a VAST array of just about everything. I wish I could comment on a particular item but overwhelming is the best way to describe all this. I really like the fact that they have a beer and wine area that is very well stocked. They even carry fresh beers on tap for sale to fill growlers. The thing I'd like to mention is that you wouldn't be disappointed if you visit. This site just opened up and I am very impressed. It reminds me of whole foods but not quite. The things that i like the most are the wine and cheese bar. You can sample whatever they have. My friends and I respect a good cheese so this was huge for me. Im also a fan of their olive bar. read more

I'm not understanding why you cannot keep the bathrooms cleaned for the customers???? After leaving the restroom I walked over to Starbucks to order a smoothie with whey protein ..and they had no whey! So I ordered without whey and they were short of strawberry. I then ask to give me a bottle of water and reimburse me the difference. Instead they charged me again for my original order.. WT* As for the store Kroger It's incredible! read more

I love that all staff, from someone pushing carts, to associates walking around the store, any department, the person checking you out and bagging your groceries are all polite and courteous....even if they don't want to be, they do it anyway and that's what makes me come back to shop here. They have a huge variety of food and believe it or not, its more in line with walmart prices but the ambiance of a harris teeter. I wish they would continue expanding around Hampton roads to somewhere in Chesapeake. read more

Stopped in to see what I could grab for a quick lunch today and as I was browsing the deli area and reciting all of the delicacies quietly under my breath (yeah it looked like I was talking to myself) I noticed that they had a.......... ***TOUCH SCREEN COMPUTER ORDER STATION FOR THE DELI*** ZOMG!!!!!!11!!!!!11111!!!!11!1!!1!! You know like the ones at WaWa where you choose everything on the screen and it prints out the little receipt? Yep! That would be it. Super fancy. This Kroger is the nicest one I've ever been to in my life. They have ample parking, lots of employees, the store is large enough to not have an anxiety attack from crowds. They have an extensive cheese kiosk, a boars head sandwich make line ($6.99 for a foot long)... Sushi, pho, I mean.. Endless lunch options. A star bucks! Also the international section is banging!!! They had all sorts of middle eastern stuff I've never seen anywhere in Hampton Roads. This Kroger is way better than the Newport News store. I was asked 3 times if I needed help. The produce was better stocked. Loads of checkouts, in and out fast despite the day before xmas eve. The sandwich bar is better than jimmy johns and subway... And cheaper.... I started coming here right after they opened and the store was great! The employees were nice and helpful and the produce was fresh. In the past couple of months though, the produce has started being lower quality and the employees not as friendly. Now this past week I found myself having purchased old English cucumbers (the kind wrapped in clear plastic that is hard to determine the freshness) and a couple employees giving me the stink eye while they are stocking the shelves as I try to navigate around them and purchase the items they are restocking. I think I may be done with this store after my latest visit.... I purchased a shirt and after I got home the ink tag is still attached and the hamburger meat I purchased is gray on the day ofexpiration (see the photo). Unfortunately, all of the other nearby grocery stores (Farm Fresh and the old Kroger) have closed since this Kroger has opened. read more

The area in North Suffolk has to have met it's saturation point by now for sure. A Harris Teeter went in at Harbour View and I thought that would be it. Nope. Now a SUPER Kroger on College Drive. So now that the dust has settled, I believe my family likes the Kroger the best. Here is our short list of reasons. 1. Cheap gas with rewards credit. 2. SBUX inside 3. Fresh sushi being made 4. Selling craft beers 5. Huge Organic selection 6. New and clean 7. Expanded retail section with clothes and such that could preclude a trip to Walmart 8. Prices seem to be on par with every other place. Combine all of these together without having to deal with the WalMart crowd and you have a place that my wife doesn't mind getting everything.. Now, this gem is pretty and shiny right now, but a year from now I may not be singing the same tune. Also, they are building a Michaels next door, so this corridor is getting more and more crowded with each passing day. read more

Today was my last straw here. After walking in the music changed from subtle background to blaring loud rap. The employees were yelling from one end of the store to the other joking and having a grand time. Then one got on the loud speaker doing the same. She was a bit more refined, but still- it's not a night club people! I left my cart in the aisle and went to Walmart-go figure. Somebody obviously left a bunch of rowdy teenagers in charge of what use to be the best place to shop. I will not be returning. Honestly no stars if they had allowed it. read more

I really like the super market. They have everything you can thing off and for a reasonable price.... If your a Kroger member. They have a very diverse deli and cheese section. The staff is very friendly and the line are never super long like Walmart. Plus if your a Kroger member for every 100 points you save 10 cents on gas. read more

I like this Marketplace better than the old Krogers. The people are nicer, friendlier. Things are run smoother on the second shift then the used to be run down the street. I like the wide variety of food all though I thought it was excessive before it is nice to have more choices. I could do without a jewelers. I of course will let the Starbucks slide. A little clinic is nice depending on what they offer. I think this is a good business for the area and with the neighborhood building up other new stores will join them and the shopping area will be nice. read more

Store is very clean and well stocked, prices are great especially if you have a Kroger member card. however, since it opened customer service has dropped considerably. When they first open the employees had Smiles on their faces they would gratefully help, wanted to make the Shoppers experience wonderful and now they could care less to the point that the customers seem to be in their way and they're doing us a favor by even answering a question. read more

I love this place. We came in I would say about 2 weeks after they first opened. We just came in to grab some Christmas decorations and maybe a tree. The place was crowded but understandable considering its the Christmas season and they just opened. Everyone that works there was so polite and it seemed like they were happy to be there. There were a few things we needed we could not find. But there was plenty of help from the employees working the isles. They were out of stock of a few things, like wreath hangers, red bows. But you could tell that the employees were doing everything they could just to keep the products stocked. We ended up getting the last tree stand, but we have a 9 FT gorgeous tree that we only paid $35 for. I bought a tree almost as big as this last year at a tree farm and paid $80 for it. There was gentlemen that had to give us twine to load up the tree. He had on slacks and tie so therefore he was not dressed to help my husband wrestle a tree to the roof of our suv. Thank god we didn't have far to go. Other than the fact that they should have had at least one employee working to help load the trees I love the place. I had my husband grab sushi there a few days later. They actually made the sushi fresh for him right there, he even said " Anything you need me to make, I can do it". Moved from Colorado where they had King Soopers (another division of Kroger) the store is identical. Vast selection and the 10 for ten is great. Great veggies! And i always buy the Kroger brand you save a ton and i like the fuel points which also save you on gas. PLEASE BUILD A MARKET PLACE IN HAMPTON PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. When it opened it was outstanding. Staff was motivated, quick, and stock was quickly replenished when low. For the most part, most departments are still performing well. The cashiers are a whole different story. In the beginning, management was out front, cashiers moved swiftly, and the appearance of a "Sense of Urgency" was in every open lane. Definite change of atmosphere now. No management, cashiers moving like sloths in a vat of cold molasses. Couldn't care less if they dropped your watermelon on your carton of eggs. Might as well go to Walmart if the service is the same. It's a shame that they got rid of good management, in leu of cheaper labor. read more

Always a pleasant experience. Went in because the crab legs were on sale. I knew there would be a little wait because so many people want them steamed. Ordered 4 pounds of streamed crab legs and 2 pounds of steamed shrimp. Both were cooked to perfection! read more

I'm so glad this place opened up close by my house it has been the best thing for me food wise. They have fast service shockingly all the employees are asking if you need help finding anything. It has also kept me out of Walmart which is a huge plus because I don't miss that place. The only down fall to Kroger is something's are very pricey versus other stores. read more

The customer service in this Kroger was outstanding. There were a lot of people in the store and still almost every isle I ran in to a Kroger employee. If I had a question, someone was there to answer it. I was so impressed. I thought it was a little pricey for my pocket book but the services made it worth it. Watch out Walmart! read more

Love the organic selection. Don't love the prices but what can you really expect from a store that is the incredible hulk of luxury grocery shopping. The prices could be worse. A visit here is truly an experience and worth it, particularly if you like a more gourmet shopping experience from cheese to cold cuts to a decent selection of fresh wild caught seafood to baked goods to grab your already made dinner to-go. Kitchen ware, clothing...it's huge and well-stocked. My favorite area of the store is where the beer and wine bar is with enough area for a couple picnic table style seatings ...cool big city scene which works well for N Suffolk, particularly if you love IPAs and interesting good beer in general. Always keep an eye out for their coupons. Also, be prepared to be overwhelmed because there is a lot going on inside this store, which will be leaving you a multitude of reasons to come back. read more

I LOVE this place! I'm so happy there is another option instead of shopping at that dreaded Wal-Mart. Everything seems fresh, well stocked, the employees are very courteous, and honestly it's not much more expensive than shopping at Wal-Mart. You might spend a little bit more over your normal bill there but you also have to count the QUALITY of the items you purchase. I love their reward program where you can use points accumulated to go towards your fuel purchase. One thing I have noticed is that sometimes the fruits/veggies are a LITTLE scarce--could be that I often go on Sundays and they won't get a fresh shipment in until that following Monday--who knows. However, this is not enough to dissuade me from buying anything because the produce that they do have seems FRESH. They have a variety of items and quite honestly I really see no reason to make that once in a while journey to whole foods. They sell other items besides groceries as well. There really isn't anything to say that others haven't said so I will end this review on a good note. You hopefully won't be disappointed by shopping here! read more

I wanted to say that the customer service there is amazing. I locked my keys in my car and needed to use the phone multiple times! The employees were very helpful and even offered to assist me. When the tow truck arrived which took 4 hours the lady at the customer service deck came out in the rain to make sure I was ok. I can't say thank you enough and next time I'm in the store I will be sure to personally thank the employees that helped me. read more

I decided to check out this store on a whim. I live 20 miles or so from it,but really wanted to try it out.WOW!!!!!! Was I impressed.I have never seen so many friendly workers,they smiled and meant it and I was greeted in each department. Beautiful store and I espically liked all the organic product available,even the produce department had a great selection of organic produce. I will be back on a regular basis. read more
