Moved here from Eastpointe 5 years ago - so you know that this Kroger is HEAVEN vs. anything in Eastpointe or Roseville. Heck, we had $60 in bottle returns at the one on Gratiot, b4 they limited the amount for bottle returns. SO comes home, looked at the receipt, NO Bottle Returns Credit. The Cashier stole our slip. I contacted them immediately, I won't even go into that ghetto rigga-marole! This Kroger I usually shop a certain weekday b/c I volunteer at a local Food Pantry, just down the road. About 2PM each time. The ONLY issues I've had is having to find someone to fix the bottle return machines, the weird male store manager oddly following me around even tho I'm there every week & spend about $200 each time (as I see another lady wrote in her review), I'm always by myself, and I'm middle-aged but I am 100% DISABLED. And legally Deaf. Needless to say, I don't appreciate being followed by this guy, I mean you must recognize me, and there's cameras in the ceiling. I tried a new approach, & it worked! I started moving at a snail's pace. Hey, I'm physically & mentally Disabled, so I'm probably slower-going anyways...but any time I see this guy or one of his co-horts, usually middle-aged women, I put the brakes on. I mean then if you're able-bodied & following me, it seems highly SUSPICIOUS. Anyway, the bagging your own things. Hell no! Kroger is the largest grocery chain in the US. Pay some baggers! In the summer, it's nice, they have local h.s. teens in there, bagging up a storm. But any other time, it's hit-or-miss. I'm not rude, but I don't bag. Maybe something small, but not $200 in groceries, nope. This does seem to be a Kroger thing since at Meijer they have those spinning carousels with the bags, and I haven't run into this there, but there isn't a Meijer nearby. This Kroger does open up more checkout lanes if they start backing up, I've seen that every time. I'll say here a VAST IMPROVEMENT for Kroger! Order online, go to the store, pick-up for FREE. You don't have to deal with the narrow store aisles, parking, rude other shoppers, bagging your own groceries. Knock on wood, that service is 5 stars! And you can give them coupons too. Not bottle return slips tho. I've been doing it for like a year or so, it is EPIC & again, FREE (over a small amount). Believe it or not, I have not had them mess up even once! It's great service. Then you can check your receipt when you get home, on your phone or computer. If anything is missing or expired or any issues, you can check a box online, it sends you a refund immediately. I will say, by default, the box is checked to Allow Substitutions. You want to uncheck that for sure. I'm a Vegetarian, I don't need subs of Morning Star Farms with real hot dogs or steaks or something. You can take the time & individually mark item substitutions. They are ALWAYS out of at least 1 thing I order. But I do relevant subs for most items. They have Delivery too, over a certain amount I think it's free, I haven't tried that yet since I'm in SL anyway. Order online the day before, go to the pick-up near the pharmacy drive-thru, they load your car up for FREE. No tipping either! And they load all the groceries for you, FREE. read more

So this is a new Kroger that use to be a Hiller's Market. Most people will compare this location to Hiller's, but you really shouldn't. The name is Kroger not Hiller's Kroger. The selection here is the same as all other Kroger's. They also have a Starbucks located inside this location. Make sure you go here, this location is never busy. Most people don't go to this location, so it makes it a easy shopping experience. read more

I have lived in this community for more than 2 years now. The people at Kroger see me everyday maybe even 2-3 times a day and they still watch me like I just broke out of prison. I swear even when I used the u-scan every item I scan afterwards I get a please scan each item before placing it in the basket. My husband who is white comes over and it stops happening. I am so sick of this type of mess I often shop here because it's close to my home. The selection has become very bleak as well. They don't have a very big variety of ethnic items either. Just let me shop in peace. Don't breath down my neck at u-scan. Geez! read more

I really don't see why the South Lyon Kroger has such poor reviews. If small gatherings of people and ample but crowded parking really grinds your gears, consider shopping at an odd hour or sending your SO to make for a more enjoyable grocery-retrieving experience. The staff is incredibly friendly. The bakery employees have helped me on many occasions despite being busy--searching the back for my desired baked goods, or personalizing a birthday cake. The deli staff is great, too. Sometimes I do my shopping in the wee hours of the morning and the deli case lighting is not even on yet. But they see me, kindly ask how they can help, and promptly provide fresh-cut selections of meats and cheeses. When my husband shops, they read the wish-I-was-watching-football ache in his eyes and give him turkey and cheese samples to snack on to help take the edge off. The parking lot and store is quite busy on the weekends. South Lyon is growing, and like many humans, the population seems to appreciate eating food on a regular basis, and therefore requires groceries. Kroger does a nice job keeping cashiers and baggers on staff to get you checked out in a reasonable amount of time. read more

I have to agree that this Kroger is THE WORST I've ever encountered. As soon as you enter the front door, there's trash on the floor and the carts are unavailable. The bottle return room is an absolute pigsty. Trash everywhere, the bottle return equipment is so filthy, it doesn't even work. The employees don't even care that it creates an inconvenience. I attempted to pick up a prescription from the pharmacy that was called in 24 hours ago, but it's not ready and they want me to wait 20 more minutes before its ready. And the employees, it's like we should be thankful that they're there... I will never step foot in that store again. Very unbecoming of the Kroger brand. One piece of advice for the store manager... Find another job because you suck at this one. read more

Ok- the parking is horrible. In to pick up tonight's meal. Produce above average. Always find what I am looking for; good. Overall- I like this Kroger's, close to the house. $270 dollar bill reduced to $209 after card discount. Couple of young men rocked when they bagged our groceries. It's pretty painful to shop at this store. The produce department is something comparable to quality you might find at a discount store. There are often food items marked at Manager Special pricing that are so beyond edible that I wouldn't even feed stray animals. I have shared my sentiment directly to Kroger Feedback so hopefully they take a look into this issue. The only reason why I return is for convenience and the gas station. I'm just glad there are other options for groceries in town or nearby. read more

This place is always packed and I have no idea why.. Start to finish, this Kroger makes for a horrible grocery shopping experience. Firstly, the parking lot is a disaster, the lanes are extremely narrow, barely allowing for 2 cars to get through, and making it quite dangerous for pedestrians. Overall, the Produce is crummy, even the organic selection goes bad within just a few days.. I don't even consider buying meat here, especially the beef selection. When it comes to price, Kroger may win by a hair, but Id rather pay a few extra bucks at Buschs and not have to deal with the hassle of it all. read more

Pros: Prices, gas, boars head, and Sushi Cons: Produce, stock, variety I find this particular store to appeal to more of the low income patron. Prices are marked lower than the other grocery stores in the area, which is great but they don't usually have the big item sales that attract me. I've found many out of date items on the shelves here, and the produce is an absolute joke. Many items are also mismarked in the bakery section. While almost all the staff members are really nice, I've had several unpleasant exchanges with the very heavy set male cashier that runs the self check out. The online Friday digital downloads are NEVER and I mean never available at this store. The beer selection is bare bones, but the liquor is okay. The only thing this store has going for it is the boars head deli selection, amazing sushi, and the gas station. If it wasn't for those three things I would never go here. This is the worst Kroger in existence. The staff are rude and act like they hate you. This kid Gabe who works there has no manners and loves to get in your way and never say excuse me. This old lady, Tish, horrible cashier, clearly needs to retire, gives everyone a hard time and is the snobbiest old lady I ever met. Always out of stock on food and the parking lot is always full. Worst Kroger ever, save yourself the headache and spend a little extra at Busch's, or go to the new Kroger down 10 mile. read more

Called to order two cookie cakes for a birthday party and when the bakery department answered I was greeted with an incredible rude women named Jen. I told her I needed two and she told me she couldn't write on them which was no problem I just needed two cakes so she said "I'll put them aside for you, we should have enough out on the shelves tho" so when my husband arrived and walked to the bakery department and asked Jen if she had the two cookie cakes set aside she rudely said "they're out near the cookies" and just walked away. So my husband went over to the cookies saw they weren't there and then went back over to her and asked if she set any aside like she said she would and she looked at my husband and just walked away and out a door completely ignoring him. Jen is absolutely horrible and rude. So if you want anything from the bakery department good luck if you have to deal with horrible excuse of a baker. read more

There's something just not right about this place. I used to work at a Kroger and, whether it was the employees, familiarity, atmosphere....I don't know, but it felt like home. When I moved out here, I tried the Novi Kroger, and it was OK. Then I tried this South Lyon Kroger, and it almost feels uncomfortable. I see other reviewers mention the long aisles and cramped interior. Maybe that's it. But I'm not a fan of this store, and will actually go to the Novi one when I'm out and about to avoid this store. This Kroger's produce department has improved immensely in the past year. Every time I shop there the citrus is plentiful and fresh in appearance and in taste. I like that they offer tomatoes from the USA too. Bush's is way too overpriced and doesn't last as long in my house. Their basil is awful. I love Krogers living basil. Smells so good and tastes delicious. The employees are so friendly and go out of their way to help you. I bought gorgeous looking jumbo russet 8 lb potatoes yesterday for 2.99, a great deal! Well I pulled into this Kroger gas station to get some air in my tire.. no big deal right... wrong machine didn't work so I had to go to another gas station well turns out that the tire needed air so badly that the tire exploded... this tire woulda been fine had it worked so I could drive to the discount tire and got a new one... now I have to replace the tire and rim thanks Kroger get that fixed read more

I've been shopping at this Krogers for 12 years now and couldn't be happier. Great value, fresh, quality fruit and vegetables and the new bakery is awesome...try their delicious Bagels! I had been a fan of Zingerman's bagels in Ann Arbor but I wouldn't trade them for the new Kroger bagels. The staff is accomodating, always friendly and helpful. It is rare that I don't find just what I want when shopping there. read more

This is the store that I have been shopping at regularly for about ten years. Prices seem good and it's clean, staff is helpful. But two things as of late I'm finding that is forcing me to shop at Bush's (which is more expensive and further away for me): One: they seem to have a very difficult time keeping Guernsey Milk in stock. They are always sold out. And when I mentioned it to whom I believe was the dairy manager, she was rude and unhelpful. Two: They have a very small selection of organic produce. This didn't use to be a problem for me, but as I move closer to a completely organic diet, it is now of concern. And the few items they do carry they are often out of stock. read more

The Produce at this location has improved immensely in the past year. Every time I shop there the citrus catches my eye. Its always so plentiful and fresh. Associates were sampling nectarines a few days ago and they were so sweet and delicious! I bought the best asparagus I've had in months there a few days ago. I also like their living basil its so fragrant and fresh. I was informed by a pleasant employee it's delivered fresh everyday. Bush's should take note because the basil is horrible there and over priced for the quality! The produce I've purchased at Bush's not only is more expensive but doesn't begin to last as long. read more

I always find what I need in a reasonable amount of time, the staff is friendly and always available to help or answer questions, and the food and prices are good. Never will I go back. The staff look very young and inexperienced and extremely rude. I go there every other week for my grocery shopping and will never return! I walked outside to see a few Kroger workers in a trashy red car smoking IN THEIR UNIFORMS in the middle of the lot! It infuriates me to know that's the same hands touching my food and that also those kids were not legal age of smoking! Many of the workers also look very unclean to begin with with long beards and the stench of smoke I receive just by walking past them. Keep your workers on a leash if you want any customers. read more

I purchased a 20.8 lb.Kroger turkey this year from Kroger's in South Lyon for Thanksgiving. I did the usual defrosting of the turkey and prep, placed it in the aluminum pan (Kroger bought) and started cooking Mr. Tom. After about 3 hours I noticed smoke in the kitchen and found Mr Tom in some trouble. I opened the oven door to find that my aluminum pan was filled to the brim and turkey juice was spilling on to the oven bottom creating a burned and smokey situation. I had to drain the pan and get the juice out to finish cooking the bird. The pan I had placed the bird in was sufficient to handle the size of the turkey.. My only prep on the turkey was rubbing a little butter and sage on the outside of the bird. By the time Mr. Tom was finished cooking, he weighed all of 13.2 lbs. I have to wonder what I was paying for when I bought a 20 lb. bird, but more than that, wondering what this turkey was pumped up with in the way of preservatives etc. Now, I am no health nut by any means, but it make's me wonder just what I am buying. Before writing this review I did some research on the topic with respect to Kroger and pumped up bird experiences. I notice that there are a lot of complaints in regards to chicken over blown with water along with an over-all decline in quality. Well, amen. I thought I was the only one with the same complaint. seems like the water seepage problem has been with the chickens and hydrates the turkeys as well.
